I don’t know if you remember or not, but back then there were connections called dial-up, and the internet speed was so slow that downloading something like this was practically impossible. I didn’t have this game on my own system, so in order to play it, I had to travel to the house of one of my relatives who lived in another province—about 1,280 kilometers away, a journey that took an entire day. Two decades…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another great game published on Steam by Rockstar (made by Remedy) that does not work on modern machines without tinkering by the owner of the game. It is shameful and should not be allowed to be on sale in its current state.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to play Max Payne 1 and stumbled onto a problem: The game doesn't exist in Germany So I wanted to play Max Payne 2 and stumbled onto another problem: The German version only has the German VO So I wanted to play Max Payne 3- It is heavily censored Germany fucking HATES Max Payne lmao
unlabelledView post →Max Payne 2 is a game that still looks somehow Good, and the lighting is a huge part of that. You'd have to be using Godot/etc to reasonably pull it off, but, certainly worth poking at. I'm super tempted to take a swing at it myself, next game.

Max Payne 2, released in 2003, stands as an incredible masterpiece in gaming history, its status as one of the best games ever created. Remedy Entertainment took everything that made the original Max Payne great and elevated it to new heights, delivering an immersive narrative, refined gameplay mechanics, and a level of cinematic storytelling that remains unmatched.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a dark and rainy New York doesn't prevent it from being a video game like a film noir with good action and a story that is both romantic and interesting
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Verdict 👍 Recommended Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne is one of those games I played only a few years after it originally came out — and it was also one of the first games in my life. In a way, this game helped shape me as a player. And the crazy part? It hasn’t aged badly at all. Even today, it still hits. I grabbed a “definitive” fix/mod from PCGamingWiki, launched the game with the graphics settings I wanted, and it just worked. The game looks good, plays smoothly, and still feels…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I spent my childhood playing this game. The number of times I've finished it is more than the number of years I'm old.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Max Payne 2 is rain, regret, and bullet time. A slow, melancholic fall wrapped in sharp writing and unforgettable atmosphere. A classic that doesn’t age — it scars.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute waste of time. To actually PLAY the game, you have to install some unofficial fixes for it, because Rockstar doesn't care about making their old games compatible with new, high-end tech. Maybe instead of endlessly milking GTAO, actually care about your fans instead? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ greedy pigs
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally made my PC run Max Payne 2, now to see if Mark Wahlberg can shoot his wife back to life or whatever this game is about.
unlabelledView post →Old good classic. Still as good as when it came out in 2003. Despite its age, it still amazes with enemies behavior, an actual mirrors reflections and interactable environment (things which in many of modern AAA games are "somehow" unachievable)... Gunshots, explosions, no magically despawning bodies... All this, while using a little over 200 MB RAM on average, which in 2026 is about 1 web browser tab. This is not just nostalgia, but a proof that nowadays developers got simply lazier.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →20) Max Payne 2 remedy's best game because this is the last game where animation input didn't take priority over the combat. all the ones that came after feel way less good to play. store.steampowered.com/app/12150/Ma...
unlabelledView post →How is the gameplay still so fun? With Widescreen Fix and some tinkers here and there this game is still an evergreen classic masterpiece. Diamond never loses it's shine I guess. I will never stop glazing this series

Thank you to everyone who came to watch!! That's TWO games finished in one week!!! Afterwards we raided @moviecowboy.bsky.social WHO'S STARTING MAX PAYNE 2!!! GO
unlabelledView post →Mischief actually has an entire Max Payne 2-but-improved style game plotted out, the only thing stopping us from making it is that we don't have the people to make it so it's just kinda sitting there. It started 'cause I pitched "how do you adapt something like Point Blank to a game?"
unlabelledView post →Man, the new "Control" looks cool. But I haven't enjoyed playing a Remedy game since "Max Payne 2". I don't know what it is, they just don't appeal to me as far as mechanics go. It's a big bummer, because I enjoy everything else about them.
unlabelledView post →4. Max Payne 2 When I played this as a teenager, it blew my mind like nothing else. Awesome gunplay mixed with a smart and darkly funny story. If there is a television in a Remedy game, I WILL stop to watch whatever is on it.
unlabelledView post →Finished #MaxPayne2 on #SteamDeck and it's great! Unlike the first, no extra fixes needed. I just used an older version of Proton (5.13-6 if I recall correctly) to be safe, but that's it. It takes the same winning gameplay & storytelling recipe as the 1st, but with improved graphics and controls. The only difficulty I had was during this part where you have to snipe enemies down, and it can be frustrating to aim precisely with the joysticks. #PCGaming #RetroGaming #Gaming #Games

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alot of people say that Max Payne 2 is a better game than Max Payne 1 and in a sense they are right. The graphics are better, the gunplay feels more smooth, and the guns themselves are just overall better this time as well. But, as far as story by themselves I would say 1 edges out 2. I actually think both Max Payne 1&2 played back to back flow into each other very well as Max Payne 2 only takes place two years after Max Payne 1 and many of the story beats connect right over to the story of 2.…

Best Max Payne game in my opinion. It has the noir, a fun plot, ragdoll physics, and leaps and bounds improved from Max Payne 1. Not as bleak and depressing as the third game. Sadly, no controller support. Rest in Peace James McCaffrey.

unlabelledView post →Max Payne is one of the all time iconic game trilogies, and for very good reason. The second game in the series cements it firmly in the canon of all-time-great games, both for it's incredibly tight gameplay and for Sam Lake's first truly great story. This is, for the most part, how sequels should be done; an improvement on many aspects of the first game, without losing the heart that makes both games work. The few issues I do have are far outweighed by the many positives, and if you haven't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Classic story/shooter! Even though it says controller is not supported I was able to use my Xbox Controller. The controls are good a little touchy and some buttons are in odd places but overall works like a modern shooter. I love the Max Payne series. The story is deep, dark, and compelling.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Max Payne 2 – Somehow Better Than I Remember ★★★★★★★★★☆ (9/10) Better than Max Payne 1. The story, visuals, and especially the gunplay all feel like a significant improvement. Somehow, a game from 2003 feels better to play than a lot of modern AAA games. That's getting a little embarrassing for the industry. That said, do not play this before Max Payne 1. The story continues directly from the first game, and you'll appreciate everything a lot more if you already know what happened. I was…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is exactly as old as I am. When it was released, I was only two months old. 23 years later, I still sit at my computer every day and play games, but I still haven’t found a single game as beautiful as this one. A story where every line of dialogue touches your soul. The sound of the rain gently falling and the dark atmosphere slowly seep into your very being. A storyline that takes place over the course of only two nights, yet somehow feels like it lasted for months. The character…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The nightmare wasn't over. It had just found a new way to hurt me. Max Payne 2 is everything a sequel should be. It takes what made the original great and sharpens it like a bullet with my name on it. The gunplay feels smoother, bullet time is better than ever, and diving through gunfights never gets old. The graphics are a step up from the first game. Not enough to make you forget how old it is, but enough to make the rain-soaked streets and dark hallways feel alive. The story is where the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Leather coats. Empty hallways. Berettas barking in slow motion. Cigarette smoke and tragedy. Max Payne 2 might honestly be my favorite game in the trilogy. After finishing the first game I expected more of the same. More bullet time, more noir narration, more grimy New York gunfights. What I did not expect was for the entire formula to feel so refined that it made me question why so many modern shooters and shooters from this generation feel like complete garbage in comparison. I’m looking at…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Max Payne 2" is pure art when it comes to atmosphere and music, it’s honestly a masterpiece, and with Mona involved it basically feels like gaming paradise. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even better than the first. The bullet time is more refined and the story hits harder.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Max Payne 2, just as with 1, is a great shooter. The setting is more dressed than the first game and it made some changes to the gun roster and the slow motion. The story also feels more focused. I did find the explosion and fire scenes to be a bit more tedious in regards to quick saving and quick loading. Still a great game and holds up in 2026.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Fall of Max Payne is a stellar sequel to a masterpiece, successfully improving on many of the original's key mechanics. Clearing a room full of enemies using Bullet Time feels even more satisfying here than it did in the first game. Additionally, the sections where you play as Mona Sax provide a refreshing change of pace and a fascinating look at the narrative from her perspective. As with the first entry, I particularly enjoyed the gritty noir art style, the gripping narrative, the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They call this game The Fall of Max Payne because of how many balconies, floors and bits of scaffolding his ass manages to plummet through. A pretty nifty sequel to the first game for sure. It gives a lot more of the run, dive and gun action that the first managed to deliver as well. All the crisp sounds of gunfire are all there and blazing away. Some of the more out there sequences in this game really do feel like the prototype for games like Alan Wake as well. I think it goes astray with…

unlabelledView post →Having recently completed Max Payne, I was ready to jump into the second installment. Everything that was great about the first game feels improved in Max Payne 2. The storytelling is better, the voice acting is better, the character models are vastly improved, and the gunplay feels much more accurate. Headshots actually mean something this time around, which makes combat more satisfying overall. One of my biggest complaints with the first game was how often the graphic novel-style story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4/5 Just like the original Max Payne, Max Payne 2 does many things right. “It has that weird effect where something dark and depressive can feel cozy, like a cold winter night”. Max Payne 2 doesn’t stray from this. It carries that same vibe as the first game. It shares all the same features the original Max Payne had, and it expands on them with a lot of its own, making everything a lot more fluid and adding plenty of smaller details along the way. However, I can’t stop feeling like this game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is great, but I couldn't finish it because I had splitting headaches not long after playing; probably motion sickness. So I watched a very entertaining playthrough on YouTube and expect to play the remake, if it's good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →bro just could not get a break from his life's trauma but atleast he accepted himself. Played for nostalgia but story hit harder than anything else. I can understand now why as a kid we used to love this game. I would definitely recommend everyone to replay Max payne 1 and 2. Even graphics doesn't feel that bad gameplay story and audio makes up for everything else. 5 hour of campaign deserved ever minute.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly though, I don't think user polls of the best videogame or film or w/e are of much use. Like my favourite game of all time is almost certainly going to remain Max Payne 2 because of the context in which I played it and what it showed me videogame stories could be. But that's not universal.

It adds physics, but games like Halo were _trying_ physics, Max Payne 2 had Havok before Half-Life 2, and HL2's physics puzzles are gimmicky
