Essentially two games in one, Maskmaker divides your time between brief bouts of mask creation in a renaissance-like workshop, and then exploration of a series of empty puzzle landscapes in the tradition of games like Myst. It's all very colourful, and you are accompanied by a ceaselessly chatty narrator. The workshop segments are really good. Not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've seen this game touted as a "hidden gem", which really speaks to the drought of good games in the VR space. It's not terrible, but feels like a rather unremarkable puzzle game with a VR mode slapped on top. None of the puzzles have any depth; the fun of completing them comes from the immersion of VR, and not the game itself. The only mechanic that makes use of VR in a creative way is the maskmaking itself, and I'll admit there is something satisfying about carefully applying paint and…

Certainly found one here in 2019's A Fisherman's Tale, from InnerspaceVR, who also did One True Path, Maskmaker and A Fisherman's Tale 2 among others..... Game #326 🧵 1/4

Graphics look nice, performance was great with a 1080, audio, voice acting, sfx where all great. Puzzles are cleaver and super satisfying to get, and they get more challenging the more you advance in the game. At parts it seems a bit "grindy" in the sense that you need to collect ingredients to build a more complex mask, which gives you access to a different area that gives you access to more ingredients…

unlabelledView post →Creative, but a little too dry. While I grew to enjoy the simple act of making the masks and found the presentation to be quite nice at times, the game itself is generally unremarkable. This is especially noticeable in how it fails to do anything particularly clever with its perspective-swapping gameplay. Maskmaker was more monotonous than it was intriguing. The majority of puzzles are pretty arduous despite their simplicity. Getting around the sterile environments during exposition or for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an interesting VR puzzle mask crafting game, where some parts you go exploring in various magical realms controlling avatars wearing various masks. Then you must explore while trying to get 'blueprints' of new masks you can create to explore more worlds and searching for particular ingredients to make those masks. Some of the puzzles are very tricky, and sometimes finding the ingredients to make particular masks can be challenging. Overall I'd recommend for an VR puzzle game that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A wonderful journey! This is what video games should be: an adventure through lands never seen before, where your ability to explore and find a way through ultimately lead you to your destination. And when you leave, you do so a little bit wiser. I don't think I should write too much about this one - this game is a proof of art and passion, and I hope it takes you back to moments of childlike wonder and happiness, like it did for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was a real joy the play on Quest 3. For anyone who likes puzzle adventure games this is a must play! 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maskmaker is a magical puzzle game with a nice story, great VR mechanics, beautiful visuals and smooth performance. I can highly recommend it to every VR user.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really enjoyed this game. The world was immersive and fun to explore. The story was interesting, if sometimes a little ... idk. Transparent? Spoon fed? If you're paying attention at all you'll figure out the big twist less than halfway through, but I don't think that ruins the experience. The mask making mechanic is really original and overall a lot of fun.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mask making was interesting Worlds were interesting Story not bad Alot of dialogue
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've just finished the game and it was a very nice and satisfying ending to the story. The most creative part of the game is definitely the way you switch characters by wearing their masks. the puzzels were creative but they could have been harder and also the scenery is really nice, there is a very calm atmosphere
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Right in the middle on this one. Giving it the benefit of the doubt because of the devs commitment to something truly different. I think it could have been executed a little better (harder difficulties, more open worlds/mask ingredients and colors) But this really is a unique VR experience. Something tells me it would have been more enjoyable to play/understand it in french. I played this is increments of a half hour to an hour at a time. I found myself getting tired of it quickly, but then…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great artstyle, lots of fun puzzles and mechanics which work really well in VR!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just now remembering to write a review for this lovely game! I think I bought this on a small sale for $15. Maskmaker is an excellent game. It's polished, beautiful, unique and memorable. It runs well, not super performance intensive. It's a story adventure game with minor puzzles and a lovely 'mask mechanic'. Some may have played this dev's previous title, A Fisherman's Tale, which is a highly reviewed short, innovative game. Maskmaker is a more fleshed out title. It carries the same…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get it for $1 right now on Fanatical Amazing game. Mask making was fun. Puzzles were alright. The mask mechanic was very unique and pretty cool. The story is actually really good. The choreography is actually amazing as well. Some critiques come to the "Swamp" part of the game. The crucial item despawns and the last "puzzle" is more frustrating since it depends on the crucial item not despawning. There are apparently some special areas where this item doesn't spawn but I found this out after…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short but very well executed game. Story elements were a bit cheesy and repetitive, but I felt immersed the entire time. Game is a bit short but quality throughout.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like the previous game by the developer, this one also is very unique and enjoyable. Puzzles are pretty easy but the mask making mechanics are pretty neat too. Overall very very good game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6/10 - Interesting concept, but not as good as fisherman's tale I picked up this game since a fisherman's tale was a surprising mind-bending experience, i had a fair bit of fun with it and looked forward to seeing what this developer came up with next. I was close to giving this game a thumbs down, simply because the ending was predicable about 30 minutes in and the puzzles hugely differed in quality. Some puzzles made you think "oh, that was pretty smart" while others had me a bit stumped…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I picked up Maskmaker after playing the studio's previous game "A Fisherman's Tale" and loving it, much to my anticipation the Maskmaker is just as good! The story is short but well written, and the gameplay is amazing with all the interactivity in terms of making the masks and exploring the new worlds. I would absolutely recommend this game to anyone wanting yet another short, but unforgettable VR experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just started playing but so far, I am having a blast! Made my first 2 masks and now the game fully opened! Time to make more Masks and Explore the island! Really nice and refreshing gameplay! Highly recommend as it is very unique! Finished the game! For me it was worth it! Can't wait for some time to pass and forget it to play it again! (Heh.. who am I kidding.. that will not happen.... but I will still replay the game more than once ^_^, like I did with other VR GEMS ^_^). Highly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would describe this game more as an adventure/scavenge hunt rather than a puzzle game as its pretty easy but I really enjoyed it overall and really liked the ending. The visuals look great in the headset and seeing the different enviroments and wanting to see the rest of the story pulled me through the game. It has some issues like the hand interaction isnt the best with your hands being out of position with the index controllers which makes painting with the brush feel a little awkward.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maskmaker is a very promising VR game built around some genuinely innovative ideas. The puzzles are solid, with a few standout moments. Especially the one that requires you to pose, which felt creative and immersive. I also really appreciated the freedom to craft your own mask, as it allows artistic expression and personal involvement. That said, I may be judging the game a bit too harshly here, but I did find some parts of it a bit repetitive, because much of the progression basically revolves…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maskmaker is one of those VR experiences that feels carefully sculpted rather than simply assembled, inviting you into a world where craftsmanship, ritual, and quiet mystery blend into a cohesive journey. From the opening moments, you step into the role of an apprentice entering the workshop of a legendary Maskmaker, a place filled with wooden frames, pigments, carving tools, and arcane instructions. The game wastes little time introducing its central idea: masks are more than decorative…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a lovely, wondrous, cute concept that fits VR so well. So many fun interactions and puzzles. Go into it without looking at the trailer if you can, lovely to discover the main mechanics and story as you go.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maskmaker is the sophomore title from the creators of "A Fisherman's Tale (FT)," and most likely that is why you are here, but upfront, skip Maskmaker. It's boring, blah and more blah, and a missed opportunity at a cool concept. The studio tried to build on the concepts of FT, but crashed and burned. This title has you move from one uninspired "island" section to another island section to find a single object that is to be used to craft your next mask that you will then use to transport…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You don't realize how shaky you actually are until you play this game and have to use the Spyglass to get the recipe for certain masks.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is one of a kind. I loved the art style, and the game and story were fantastic !!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's just very casual the main problem is that it's not fun to play. Segments that were fun ended in few seconds. I would also cut the price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maskmaker has an enjoyable and well told story with some good use of VR space during narrative heavy sections. The interactivity and puzzles are very intuitive and straightforward. The mask designing is a highlight as well. I would honestly enjoy a freeplay mode designing more unique masks even if there was no additional gameplay elements around them beyond the workshop. Only real complaint is I wish there was a bit more interactivity in the individual worlds. One puzzle requires you to carry…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great concept and nice universe to visit. I liked to strike a pose when changing mask, just for fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a lot of fun playing this. You can tell it was made with love. Full of puzzles and crafting, my favourite part of any games. 10/10 would recommend
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't usually play these sort of games. I'm more into violent VR shooters or medieval VR dungeon crawlers. However, for this game I make an exception, because it's cleverly designed and all of the parts, from exploring, the narrative, world design and the unique ability to possess characters all work together to bring you a really nice childhood experience. I've tried other VR puzzle-type games and they usually just bore me due to a loss of interest, but this one captures you into the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is THE Virtual Reality experience. An immersive and tactile game that gives a quality experience by being in VR. I usually avoid narrative and walking-sim games in non-VR, but when the exploration in VR and the narrative is unintrusively overlaid onto gameplay and those sections are sprinkled onto puzzles and workshop crafting portions the gameplay loop is very satisfying. I am particularly appreciative of the built-in colorblind assistance, by simply mapping the colors to a few shapes and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If i wanted pretentious dialogue from a guy who sounds like he gets himself off in the mirror, I'd buy a JRPG, isn't this supposed to be a puzzle game?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good game but sad to see it not get any updates
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's alright. The puzzles are more frustrating than interesting. The world is cool, the story is ok, the puzzle mechanics are ok, but some of them are legit great. Worth getting if on sale, but wouldn't recommend full price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice adventure with a deep narrative that unfortunately isn't supported by an especially deep gameplay. Still worth the buy for the script, the vr interaction and the narrative aspects, but don't spend over 15$ over it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun game/story!! About 5 hours of gameplay with some amazing environments and cool mechanics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An exceptionally well made game for VR. Quite the experience and cool puzzles.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wonderful game! These designers truly understand the medium they're working with; it's engaging, charming and immersive. It's a perfectly polished little gem that -for me- is the VR highlight of 2021.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i beat the game in 3-4 hours and that was with periodic breaks. for 15 dollars thats too short of a game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a beautiful VR game for those who like narrative and puzzle experiences. You spend a chunk of time wandering around, exploring, switching bodies and listening to the narrative. As the game progresses, the satisfyingly tactile mask making mechanic becomes more involved and interesting, and lastly there are some decent environmental puzzles in the Myst kind of style (although a bit lighter on difficulty). The art style is really vibrant and well done. Overall I really enjoyed this one a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing A Fisherman's Tale, I was super excited to see that Innerspace VR was working on a new game, and they did not disappoint! I love the gameplay loop of moving between realms, finding components and making new masks with those components. The storytelling was on par and sometimes, even better than A Fisherman's Tale, the devs did a great job on making you feel like your were part of the story. I would recommend this game to anyone who was a fan of A Fisherman's Tale. 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short Short Review: An engaging experience with beautiful design and interesting concepts. Well worth your time. Slightly longer review: I initially believed that this was a puzzle game, but the puzzles are not the focus. They are an element, but not the whole. The primary experience is narrative and exploration, moving through spaces, finding new components, discovering new mask designs, and crafting them to unlock new regions. Each new mask unlocks at least one new component, as well as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who grew up with and loved the Myst games, and has a strange obsession with masks, this was almost the perfect game for me. The puzzles are perhaps on the easy side, and some of the environments were lacking in detail beyond what the simple art style demanded, but otherwise this was a fantastic game. Great voice acting, the tools and masks felt good to manipulate and use, and the physical performances were really beautiful. A great little adventure that I will remember and think back…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, wish it had more attention brought to it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super fun game 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game from the creators of The Fisherman Tales. This game have more storytelling than puzzles compared to Fisherman’s Tales but still a lot of fun if you looking to be immersed into the beautiful world. I personally would prefer to have bigger variety of puzzles and the second part of the game looks more filled with details than first part.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun game with interesting mechanics like any game though it is not flawless and this game is more story and the puzzles are not really that challenging
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you subscribe to Meta Horizon+, the service has expanded its content line-up for June 🥽 Adding @innerspacevr.bsky.social's puzzle title Maskmaker, the rhythm-action game Trombone Champ: Unflattened!, and platformer Outta Hand! www.meta.com/en-gb/blog/m...
unlabelledView post →While not as polished as "A Fisherman's Tale", you will enjoy this game increasingly the more you play. The puzzles are not particularly difficult, but do require thought; especially puzzles that require actions in multiple areas to solve. This game worked perfectly on my HP Reverb G2.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Schönes Puzzel Spiel
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game. The plot is interesting to follow, a large amount of voice acting makes it deeper. The mask making is cool - carving, painting and adding different decorations made it very satisfying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another solid game from the developers of Fisherman's Tale. Visually it looks good, with the art clearly stylized for performance rather than for realism. I would have appreciated a bit more texture resolution in a few places at most, and maybe a bit higher detail in background scenery. Regardless, the environments are well done and diverse. Audio is well done. On the gameplay side, there's no janky behaviours, everything works as well as it can. I only found one non-breaking bug, which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maskmaker is a joy to play through. The atmosphere is great and the puzzles and overall game mechanics very engaging. It's a bit on the short side, especially since the world building feels a bit rushed but honestly it doesn't bother me. If you have VR, it's one of the must-plays.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very Good, Very fun, I lost time playing this game.
