LostWinds 2: Winter of the Melodias
Developer Frontier Developments
LostWinds 2: Winter of the Melodias is a 2009 platform video game developed by Frontier Developments as a sequel to the 2008 game LostWinds. The game sees the protagonist Toku searching for his missing mother while also trying to uncover the fate of the Melodia people who disappeared from Mistralis years before. The story of the game is self-contained, and as such, having played the first LostWinds game is not… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

60 of 131 · most liked firstIncredible game. I purchased the game on wii-ware a long while ago, and I enjoyed it thouroughly. As for the game itself, I would say it is much better than the previous installment. It continues where it left off, but if you are forced to play only one game, I'd say play this one. The season change mechanic merges wonderfully with the metroid-vania style exploration gameplay. It makes the game, as a whole, a wonderful and unique experience. As for the port, it's a competant port. It works…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Achievements: Like the first game, the achievements are very reasonable. There are double the number of collectibles in this one, but, like the first, the game will autosave just before the end so you can go back and collect. +Introduces new mechanics different from the first game +Does not abandon the mechanics from the first game +Has metroidvania elements +Has more NPC interaction than the first, which I found charming +Nice world map for collectibles +Puzzles felt a tad more complex…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As of writing this review, I have not played the first game yet. However, I loved the game so much I wish to leave a positive reivew. This was one of my favorite iOS games back in 2012 when it was Apple's free app of the week. I decided to give it a try on Steam as I remembered loving the storyline and design. Pros +Beautiful music and sound effects +Unique gameplay - wind effects used to move, transferring fire from torch to torch for heat, changing seasons +Though other reviews seem to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one disappointed me like the first game. The level design is a little bit better, puzzles are a little more puzzling but still a short and easy game. I got quite bored during my playthrough. And last time they left it on a cliffhanger to make people buy the second game, this time? It just ends. What happened to the main story?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can see this work on the Wii, and that's where it should have stayed. The main reason I can't recommend this game on PC is because it's really tedious to play this with mouse and keyboard, frustrating at times even. On the plus side: lovely story (goes for both games), relaxing music, and all in all a great idea to move with the wind.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After getting done with the first part , was quite eager to get started with this one. It was a bit harder than the first part and the map was bigger too but that's an improvement. It's every bit amazing as the first one.Really enjoyed playing this one too, I think this one's better. Worth getting the Blossom Edition(In Sale XD) Artistic , visually pleasing and relaxing music.Gonna Hold a Place In My Heart Cons: Still expensive XD WHERE'S THE THIRD PART DEVELOPERS ?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →LostWinds 2 starts exactly where LostWinds 1 left off. Early in the game you find your long lost mother from the former game, but she can't be free until you save the kingdom from a curse. The gameplay is the same. You run and jump like a platformer and the mouse drag creates wind to help your character reach higher places. Eventually, the wind power receives upgrades to be able to have whirlwinds, the ability to blow fire, and much much more. There is one new power that is offered in this…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice little platform with original ideas and controls, coadiuvated by some puzzle mechanisms. Lovely gfx and art direction. Unfortunately quite unknown.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Using the mouse in this game is just extremely frustrating
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend buying this sequel IF you have played the first game. I wouldn't necessarily play this as a stand-alone game. Pros - Stunning graphics - A lot of attention to detail (as you can interact with the background and surroundings) - Beautiful and relaxing music - Tight controls (even tigher than the first game in my opinion) - New well-implemented mechanics - Defintely reminds you of its roots (Don't fix what ain't broken!) - The end boss fight was actually a lot of fun! Cons - The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dull. That's really just what i felt when i played this game I rarely get to play games, so I decided to pick up this one during a steam sale. I have never played the first one and attempted to go into this sequel. Pros: The Visuals are beautiful, and the plot is imaginative. Once you figure out the mechanics the puzzles are a breeze to solve, the story supposedly can be charming Very Aprochable game Cons: Hate to say it but, most everything else. If you don't know the mechanics it can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is beautiful and i love having a sequel. Heck, I've looked forward to this game for years. But if you don't have a touch screen computer it's honestly not worth your time. I tried both with my touchpad and a gaming mouse and all I have are hand cramps and can't make it past the vortex "tutorial". I'm disappointed and I'm sorry I wasted the money on an unplayable game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WARNING! This is a game made for kids(in my opinion) so dont waste your time and money because theres nothing in this one except nice graphics and cute music. This game is listed as a puzzle platformer but I think it would be fair if they said it is a very easy game with no real puzzles and no raal platforming.I wanted to like this game but since theres nothing interesting in it i cannot recommed it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →lost winds 2 winter of the melodias is a good game and sequel of lost winds it take's place after the first game once you get to ice mountains you will need fire to survive untill you get get the suit to keep you warm. controls are good but a bit floaty at times there are plenty of secrets to unlock if you are desperate to find everything. recommend lost winds was good but i think the sequel is better
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not Recommended
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lost Winds had always been an artistically beautiful game with a fantastic premise, great soundtrack and creative story and world. The story is entirely told by text in case that wasn't your exact taste but everything about this game just feels fresh and unique, it's a game that really showcases traditional settings coupled with fantasy elements as well which makes it feel spiritual and lively. The fact that this was originally made as game exclusive to your phone and tablet is just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Used to play it on my iPad, works great and was fun. Playing it on pc though is not. There's no controller support and all those mouse movement and clicking hurts my wrist. I quit after waiting for 2 minutes for the flower that swallowed Toku to release him. I tried to quit, but the game just brought me back to the start of the story and I couldn't skip the story at all. The graphics are beautiful and the music is nice, but I have to un-recommend this version of the game. If they allow us to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed the game but it was a poorly optimized Wii port. The game itself is lovely but the controls are frustrating. It also glitched & would not let me go back and get all the collectibles no matter how hard I tried. The final boss was so annoying. 5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are some improvements over the first LostWinds (mainly the boss fight), but the game is still plagued by horrible controls and irritating enemies. They hardly pose any threat, but you constanly need to push them away. Finally, closer to the end the developers introduced an npc companion you need to control, and that is another pain in the butt. Bottom line: both LostWinds should've stayed on Wii.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Longer than the first, feels more like a completed game with fuller puzzles. Many of the core issues remain, and many of the new mechanics are just annoying. The winter cold is just a penalty to exploration, but fortunately gets removed fairly quickly. Season changing (not a spoiler, it's one of the first lines on the store page) is neat at times but forces a long white screen. There are even fetch quests, and an escort mission to end the game. The awkward controls feel even worse when trying…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just as good as the first one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is nice game. Its abit longer than the first. I finished the game in about 4 hours. Once I get all he collectables, I doubt I will play it again. This game need sound controls badly. The music while beautiful, is too loud compared to the sound effects. The same control issues in the first game are in the second.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →New & Improved LostWinds! Now with many more crashes! (disable the Steam-overlay for some of them). Compared to the first one more and better puzzles and less droning Chinese restaurant muzak -- and still the same atrocious PC-controls and obtuse final bossfight. I'd feel free to skip these two games on PC. If you must: note that the annoying freeze-to-death mechanic from the start of the game only lasts until you're given a coat a slight bit on.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Return of The Boy Who Could Fly! Key features Balance tipped towards puzzles, More mechanics since first Lost Winds, You can change weather! a Better Sequel If you liked first LostWinds, then you are very likely to enjoy LostWinds 2. Coreplay is intact - draw lines, throw enemies (and yourself) sideways, use fire to clear out blockages and look out for collectibles. Sequel now has a few more interactions. You can drill into soft patches (not everywhere, but strictly where designed to),…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an iOS ported "platformer" from the people who brought you Elite:Dangerous. Control some cutesy characters and traverse various activation/sequencing puzzles. The graphics are pretty bad here, and I don't know who wanted a platformer where you can't jump, but here's one anyway. Being tablet/iOS ported, the game is of very poor quality compared to a PC game. Resolution is low and can't be changed. I used to have a little respect for Frontier, but they're selling this for £6.99 on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know, it's not a disaster but something is missing for me to recommend the game. The graphics are nice, and there are a few good ideas but overall it's just not enough. There is little to no story, I still don't understand who the bad guy was but maybe I should have played the first game to understand? The gameplay is not perfect either, sometimes it's hard to control your mouse movements the way you want to, although I admit I was expecting worst after reading the negative comments.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me say this: combined with the first game and judging as a single experience, I would recommend the Lostwinds series. Just playing one or the other though, is not worth it. They're super short, but together form an enjoyable, pretty cohesive experience. Both are relaxing and enjoyable to play, despite their individual length. Controls are mostly very smooth, although in this sequel to the first game, drawing a tornado is very janky. Lostwinds 2 is still interesting due to the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-Quick Review- LostWinds 2: Winter of Melodias is a cute story driven 2d platformer developed by Frontier Developments and released on the Wii in 2009, and on steam in 2016. Once again, you can tell this was designed primarily to be played on a Wii... however it translated to a keyboard and mouse acceptably. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad sequel to Lost Winds and only slightly longer than it. All abilities from the first one are present and some new mechanics are introduced over time. Noteworthy is that there are no improvements for character control or the addition of settings for sound, resolution or key binds. The only real negative thing i noticed is: Shortly before the end of the game you get a NPC follower that has some abilities you need to finish the game. And this NPC is super slow, needs to be very close…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →LostWinds 2: Winter of the Melodias is a game about a boy passing wind and making snowballs. This is the direct sequel to LostWinds 1. Difficulty is easy-medium. Beat it in 3.5 hours using a mouse for wind and keyboard for moving, and 100%ed it in 4.5 hours. Good game for kids. Gameplay - You go right or left and use the mouse to push wind around, which in turn pushes you and objects around. Some people hate the mouse, but I have had no problems using it. Sequel - Other reviews say…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good game, it was originally released on the wii in 2009 and it's still fun to play and feels polished. This game was originally meant to be played with the wiimote so the transition to mouse and keyboard wasn't that complicated but I can confirm that the game works with the steam controller! You'll probably have more control with the mouse but I think it's a great game to be played with the steam controller because it's comfortable and works well enough to enjoy and finish the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this is quite an entertaining game, I can't in good conscience recommend it as there is a game breaking bug that prevents me from entering the next part of the game entirely. Other than that, the game has amazing art, music and improved game play over the obviously, "proof of concept" first game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bit longer than the first game ([url=https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198014473461/recommended/447780/]review here), with a few new mechanics that lead to slightly more complex puzzles. I'd still wait for a sale, and I still wouldn't expect too much from this "light-hearted" and "family-friendly" puzzle-platformer, but if you liked the 1st game, you'll like this too. Perhaps because the game is slightly longer, the soundtrack started to sound repetitive and clumsy after a while. Also…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Builds well on the first game. In addition to all the skills Toku learned, there is a new map, added features and abilities (like Drill and the season-switching) for more complex puzzles, and collectible diary fragments for exposition. The story isn't much to look at, being a children's game. It's just another nameless evil goo (or the same as before), but with some mask this time. There's less frequent dialogue, which I liked. If you liked the first game but wanted something longer, this is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →These looked cute and fairly easy when I bought them. I am not very good at video games but come on. Why do you create games that you literally have to be a college grad to figure out. Not to mention skills with keyboard or mouse I will never have. I try to play on easiest setting and still can't get pass first lvl. What a friggin waste of time and money. To be honest of the 4 or 5 hundred games I have there are only a few I can actually play. I find games now ridiculously difficult.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10 except i was real mad when toku tore his jumbrella cape
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, I love this game but why i can't save the game? When i restart it, i just start at first again and again..
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you liked the first game you will like this sequel. It is essentially the same except it's another part of the story. The big difference is the season switch. This game is longer than the first one which was nice as it is still short. There is a lot of ground to cover in this one, so backtracking can be frustrating at times. It's still really cute and fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great series of games here. I played them both when they first came out on the wii. They were the only 2 games I ever bought on WiiWare, except for the VC game Paper Mario 64. I would have to say the price of 15 dollars for both games is fair enough, they are both beautiful and atmospheric experiences. You can finish both games together in less then 5 hours, but I always found them nice to come back to every once and a while when I had them on the Wii. If 5 hours doesn't sound worth 15…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically more of the same. There are some new mechanics, most notably changing the seasons between winter and summer, and some new enemy types, but nothing feels radically different from the first game. It's even almost exactly as long, which means this is also a recommendation on sale. No attempt whatsoever is made to explain the plot of the first game, and your old powers are available from the start with little explanation, so I'd strongly suggest playing LostWinds first. New pros and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Keyboard mouse? yeah, no... goood luck, youll need it. Every time i needed cyclone, oh yeah, heres a vortex. I ended up erratically waving my cursor across the screen whenever I needed to use it. It was better put together than the first one for sure. Still had the same issues of gameplay going mach jesus for the fact that it cant be optimized past 144fps. Port games... i tell you....

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Link to review: https://www.backloggd.com/u/RedBackLoggd/review/412756/ Tl;dr - Lostwinds 2, like the first one, isn’t recommendable by my book. The motion is more synchronous, but story and gameplay that don’t live up to their potential knock it down several pegs. Combined with backtracking galore and you got a platformer that just barely made the cut over shovelware.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, so far i'd say 2 is saying: "We're not on Wii now so we can make an actual game now." Well Devs... Yes, but that's the charm. This child's entire local life was his adventure in 1. Now it's just a movie.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's just meh, nothing really exciting here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Several game "phases" with glitches between their transitions. In some cases your character will enter in an infinity fall. Apparently, the order you visit the game phases define if it will occur or not. In other cases there are a blocking glitch preventing the transition. I tried, without success, to verify installed files and reinstall the game. So I found a shared save file from another player that has just passed that transition, however, for my surprise (or not), the blocking glitch…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lostwinds 2 is a well done evolution from the first game. Everything that is interesting and good in the first game was maintained in a way not to be a copy but to evolve the mechanics. The most negative point of the previous game was that I thought it was too short, I wanted to explore more, get to know that lore, the characters, the world better, and the second game solves this problem, it is longer, involves the story, the mechanics, the characters and, mainly: the world. Lostwinds 2 will…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Same as the first game, short but sweet. It's a little bit longer and a little bit better too. I really wish they had continued this series. Had they kept making it better and adding more mechanics like they did with this game, it'd end up an epic series. They clearly meant to make more. Lost potential.
