I am VERY picky about voice acting and often skip lines due to my high reading speed, even in games I enjoy the writing in a lot. Loco Motive's cast is fucking killing it. They elevate every single line

I think my impression comes primarily from two factors. The first is that the game changes protagonist midway. I loved Arthur, but the guy you play second is just obnoxious - didn't click with me at all. It…

unlabelledView post →Art is a 9, characters and writing are a 5. I don't like any of the characters or find myself laughing/smiling at the writing. The puzzles are ok, but I'm also leaning on the hint system to just get me through the game. I can only recommend it to people really desperate for a LucasArts-style point and click.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a hard game to not recommend. But at the end of the day, I think I would have rather spent the money on some other game, and I can't really recommend it, feeling like that. I do want to start with the things they did well, though, because there is SO MUCH WORK put into this game, and it's heartbreaking that the rest of it lets it down. Any discussion of this game needs to talk about the art, and especially the animation, both of which are extremely well done. There's a fairly…

unlabelledView post →Graphics are really nice and it's only them that manage to hold up a story, characters, puzzles, etc. which are somewhat enjoyable at best and outright dull at worst. There's nothing brilliant in it, nothing surprising or compelling, and the premise makes no sense insofar as the train is illuminated from within and does not go dark when going through a tunnel. It's not funny (and luckily doesn't try very hard to be) and sometimes it's a chore to get through dialogues with no spark, no spice.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There was nothing specifically bad about this game, but I was left just kind of annoyed when the credits rolled. I didn’t laugh or even push a little air out of my nose even once. My standards aren’t super high either - if someone says peepeepoopoo i’m giggling like the pillsbury doughboy. If comedy is subverting expectations, this game just kept meeting them, low as they were, consistently. to its detriment.

unlabelledView post →Played Loco Motive with my wife on the sofa — plus our sidekicks, the Müsli Cat and the Sushi Dog — and we had an absolute blast. It’s a fantastic love letter to the 90s point-and-click era: charming writing, great humor, and puzzles that (mostly) make perfect sense. Aside from one or two odd ones, everything clicked beautifully. The characters are delightful, the art style nails that nostalgic feeling, and the pacing kept us both hooked till the end. If you grew up on LucasArts…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lovely seeing Loco Motive reach 500 reviews on Steam, while sitting at overwhelmingly positive 😍 It's not easy reaching an audience nowadays, especially for games considered a bit more "niche", so it's awesome to see the appreciation from players 🙌
unlabelledView post →A very nice point n click about a band of anti-heroes who try to solve the murder they are accused of and lots of dark humor that is elevated by great graphics and amazing voice acting. The story feels grounded. The conspiracies are twisted enough, to keep the story interesting for most of the game and the characters are mostly silly and entertaining. While the writing and humor work on their own, they are greatly elevated by the designs and voice actors. I kept being disappoined by some…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love point-and-click adventures, I love pixel art, I love solving mysteries, and I love trains....so why didn't I like this game? Because the plot is INCREDIBLY BORING and repetitive. Exploration is very dull and repetitive (you go back and forth between the same few rooms and characters for 90% of the game, unlike beautiful Monkey Island games). The biggest issue for a game like this -- which relies so much on its writing -- is that it tries very hard to be funny and repeatedly fails at…
