It took me just shy of 3 hours to play the first Episode. This one certainly felt shorter, but going by the game time, it appears to be around the same, perhaps slightly longer. I know that the length of the first episode was a complaint for some people - don't expect something much longer. The game is mostly the same. But the atmosphere is different. It's hard to describe. What I Liked ✅As with the first episode, a good job was done with the characters and making you feel what's going…

A great next episode for Light Fairytale, very enjoyable! Still gorgeous, still pleasant to play, still frustratingly short (one-man team, I get it) and now the wait for the next, and then final, episodes are going to be SO painful. I'd love to see a publisher pick this guy up and put some real funding behind him to get a "Light Fairytale Complete" or something. Really expand the game and make it bigger :) Oh well, now to wait for Ep 3!

After enjoying the first game, it was really disappointing how bad the second episode was. The game took the worst aspects of the combat from the first game and amplified them greatly. Basically; the short play time is only as long as it is because you have slow attacks, it takes several hits to hill enemies and you move slowly. If it was sped up slightly and you had normal encounters that weren't each painfully difficult AND painfully slow, it'd probably be maybe an hour worth of content. I…

Light Fairytale Episode 2, developed and published by miyu.works, continues its retro-inspired role-playing journey by expanding the story, world-building, and emotional depth introduced in the previous chapter. Built as the second installment in an episodic RPG series inspired by classic Japanese role-playing games from earlier gaming generations, it combines turn-based combat, exploration, character-driven storytelling, and science-fiction themes into a focused experience that balances…

Game 45: Light Fairytale Episode 2 (Haru's Storyline) The story was good for the most part but felt like it relied on filler a bit much. Still it's a good game and had some tough fights I wasn't prepared for. I still recommend it though, especially for trophy and achievement hunters 7.5/10

An interesting sequel from the first game. The story gets deeper and the characters are still adorable. Can't wait for the next sequel.

Alright so this series so far has left me jaw-dropped and this coming from neko.works says something. It's a series that now has left wondering 'what happens next??' Speaking as an avid reader of books, this is GOOD. To neko.works, if you're reading this review, you got me HOOKED. I'm waiting on how this all ends and I'm looking forward to dealing with Ep. 3 because now I got to know it'll all end! I'm actually glad I'm following this series and for what it's worth, it feels like a long series…

Story is not the greatest aspect of this game, this jrpg looks interesting and is fun little game to play. Level transition is not the smoothest when you switch arias, but it is bearable an all in all this is simple indie game. Has around 3.5h of gameplay.

Okay, by all means good game but oh my god the ending felt like a climax that you just get nothing out of- ALL of the work and none of the payoff. What WAS that? I hope part 3 isn't that jarring.

I like this a lot, played the first story and thought it was a great intro to the story and how the game is. This episode just takes everything from that and does it better in my opinion. Thank god for the fast forward button, I think I would have cried if I sat through all the battles in regular speed. The game is a pretty cool nod to rpgs like FF7, playing this kinda made me feel like what I was supposed to feel if I played FF7 back in the day. (never played the original)

Episode 2 of the Light FairyTale series is a good continuation of the first chapter. Longer than the first one and with a fuller experience, and conserving the good points of this, as the great soundtrack, is a recommendable game. I can understand that maybe the chibi style is not for all, but if you like turn-based JRPGS, it is a worthy game to play. I wouldn't recommend it. I enjoyed Episode 1, but this one suffers severely from pacing and balance issues. Lots of repetitive back and forth in the same area, very limited equipment and leveling, often no way to get more money, battles are extremely sluggish and frequently 1 vs 3 which slows it down even more. The cinematics are nice but everything else was tedious. I'd recommend (re)playing FF7, Secret of Mana, or one of the Tales series instead.

After playing the first two episodes, I can recommend it, but just barely. The setting is cool and the story and characters have potential. It feels like a lot of work went into creating the Lower City and the little scenes and interactions within. I even thought it was a real Japanese RPG at first, something Western-made "JRPGs" usually can't pull off. You only have about 6 hours of gameplay for the two episodes combined, for what feels like it wants to be a big 40 hour RPG. So we're still at…

It's very short, but enjoyable. Seems like the systems in the game aren't fully realized, but for being a bite sized RPG? It's worth playing (provided you like turn based RPGs). Looking forward to EP 3 this year.

A fantastic short little JRPG. Part 2 continues directly from Part 1. It is about the same length. It is still a simple, story-driven JRPG at heart. Overall, it feels similar to "I am Setsuna" where the gameplay/battle system are extremely retro & simple; the main focus is simply story progression, village + NPC exploration, and some dungeon exploration. If that's your vibe, you'll love this series. There could've been more nuanced gameplay elements added such as improvements to the battle…

Yet more classic turn-based JRPG goodness from this great series, whose only negative aspect is the lack of length and content. It will be a masterpiece for those who love PS1-era Final Fantasy once all chapters are out and there is a full-game definitive collection. In the meantime I will have to just patiently wait for the next chapter and play each part as soon as it's available.

Charming game with fun characters and aesthetics, but there's some aspects that can be improved. Overall though I found Haru's story mode to be about as long as both paths from the last game to make up for the new second story being just a quick epilogue. However for Steam Deck users be warned that saving glitches the game up and constantly keeps trying to mash the confirm button resulting in an endless saving cycle. I usually had to literally quit the game and reboot it up after saving on…

This is much better than episode 1 but the game balance has to be better. I like the increase in challenge but when you hit a weakness it shouldn't less damage than attacks that don't hit a weakness. It make certain fights a chore to do. I'm still trying to figure out how to beat the optional robot boss.

Avg play time: 5 hours in total, this episode consist of a main story and a short 10 minute shorter end credit plot, the episode, like the first, though plays, looks, and sounds beautiful, yet my biggest gripe is this one really felt shorter than the first, though well worth the small amount i paid from its sale, at full price its harder to justify. LF Episode 2 is a vertical slice of JRPG-style goodness. i enjoyed Episode 1 but did not feel so compelled to write a review for it as i do for Episode 2. as far as presentation goes it carries over the charm of Episode 1, with the environment looking great as expected. it retains the same addicting battle and boss themes and the style of the game feeling classic and functioning as expected. the characters' designs continue to feel unique and expressive and the soundtrack is just pure wonder…

Huge improvement over the first one in a lot of ways, from the story to the mechanics and the diversity of combat. The fact that this is apparently the labor of love of just a tiny team with one passionate lead developer is pretty impressive.

My review applies to both Episode 1 and 2: The main draw for me with this series are the visuals. It has a diorama like look to it which when coupled with QOL conveniences like increased play speed, enjoyable music and story, decent combat and good enemy design makes for a fun short experience that you can easily get into and enjoy.

Update: Review changed to Recommended after Developer fix to Ayaka in Early Access Patch #4. Review was based on Early Access Patch #3 After a long two years, neko.works continues the story of Haru and company with Light Fairytale Episode II. The series, which plans on completing the story after Episode IV, is branched from the yesteryears of JRPGs from the PS1-era: conditional battle systems, turn based combat, and plenty of enemies to dispatch of. MUSIC well...it has one great song. i'm not sure if there are more. generally i don't pay attention to this aspect of games. STORY though i enjoy what we got, i would agree with others that it's barren. not a lot going on here. more world building would be nice. the elder could have gave some good exposition on the region which haru knows nothing of. instead of just asking a stranger for help and mentioning someone that just happened to be right there. where do these people sleep anyway? too…
