In a puzzle section, there were supposed to be two cubes stacked, but instead they were phased together, and I couldn't progress. Reloading the last save didn't help either, so I gave up. This is almost a year after the launch and they still haven't patched it. Disappointing.

It's been more than a year since my heart skipped a beat upon seeing the trailer for this remaster collection. After having this game for a year and indulging in my nostalgic glee, I can say with certainty that this is the best remaster collection I've ever played. On top of the visual revamp, the remaster includes many quality of life features for Soul Reaver 1, such as a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Aspyr are truly the slop kings. If you see Aspyr's name on something you know it's going to be a desecration, but this is next level. The game wastes no time in showing you what it is. Right off the bat at the title screen, the stone carving of the priest has had his hat misinterpreted by low quality AI into some sort of nonsensical hairstyle. In-game textures have been "enhanced" into warped, noisy AI garbage. Raziel's new design looks ridiculous; I guess the artistically bankrupt hacks at…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Most of the positive reviews you see are from people who played the original back in the day and are happy to see it playable on modern platforms with graphical uplift. And it's true that the voice acting and writing for this game is truly something else, something you almost never see in modern titles. However, I tried to play it for the first time, and I think Soul Reaver didn't need a remaster, it needed a remake. The game design and mechanics are hopelessly boring and clunky. The entire…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Soul Reaver duology is a bit of a mixed bag. The combat isn't fun, but that's not the focus and it doesn't get too annoying. The exploration was remarkable for its time with its lack of visible load screens even when using fast travel or transitioning between two versions of the world, but it's not particularly special by modern standards. However, it does have a few notable gimmicks and the atmosphere is absolutely top notch. This remaster retains the original audio which was very much…

And here we are with an unexpected remaster of a beloved classic. But…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My apologies to the Legacy of Kain community at large, but I feel I need to give this Remaster a very cautious thumbs-down, even though I still enjoy these games from my (late) formative years on many levels, and I’m certain any old Legacy of Kain fan will surely feel the same about them, reviews be damned. But when I try and look at them on an objective level, with the nostalgia glasses off, I feel there are few reasons for new players to get into the Soul Reaver games today. This is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One Day in 1999, My uncle came down to visit the family. In this particular visit he came with a silver metallic briefcase and said, "Hey you guys like video games? Check this out. You heard of Playstation? I got a few games for it." He opens up his briefcase and in a neat and organized manner, he had a nice collection of PS1 games I've never heard of or seen before. I was nine, at this point I had my N64 so aside from PC, video games run on a CD-ROM was completely new to me. "Pick anything.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Same games I loved from the past with that crisp, clear, fresh coat of paint. Puzzles, characters and story still as enjoyable as ever. Please release Blood Omen 1 & 2 REMAKES!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved it upon initial release but I think it was mostly because of the visuals. Although this game was awesome and groundbreaking for it's time It feels dated now. I think for the uninitiated this is worth playing but I don't like it as much as I thought I did.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember playing this on my PS1 with all my CD game cases scattered around me on the floor. Definitely a game I used a PS5 controller to play. Nostalgia really hits home and makes me still appreciate these 2 gems even if the combat is a bit brutal (control wise with locking on + getting ganged up on multiple enemies) and the platforming, although not bad, just takes time to get use to with how heavy you feel. Story still holds up tons though and Iove the world visuals + gothic atmosphere.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Legacy of Kain series is, admittedly, one of my favourite game series of all times. It's hard to imagine that the original Soul Reaver game was released over 25 years ago, so being able to have a remastered version to play is fantastic. In terms of the games, we'll split it in 2. Soul Reaver 1 ----------------- The older of the 2 (obviously) has the most to benefit from the remaster treatment, and benefit it does. The textures and character models have all had a lot of care and attention…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely weak for a "Remaster". The only benefit of buying this game is that you can now play Soul Reaver 1-2 without having to tamper with your game to get it to run on a modern PC. I'd reccomend ONLY buying it for this reason, and not suggest buying it if you already run Soul Reaver fine or have finished it semi-recently and you think a remaster will bring magic back into the game. It won't in this case. Soul Reaver 1-2 are fantastic games for their time and worth playing, I'd suggest…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was okay for the first few hours, I was really enjoying the story and worldbuilding and the voice acting was excellent. But then the game started asking too much precision for these godawful controls.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good port! But the actual games are kind of overrated. I had played the original before and I managed to complete it here again, but I tapped out 2-3 hours into SR2. The worldbuilding and narrative might be interesting, but the gameplay teeters between repetitively dull and borderline dysfunctional. The visual design and music, although occasionally interesting, are so mind-numbing that you risk a migraine after several hours of play. These qualities go for both the first and the second game.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alright, this is a tough one. First of all, if you've tried the Soul Reaver games before and didn't care for them, this won't change your mind. There isn't much to see beyond some better performance (most of the time) and a fresh coat of paint. Beyond that, I can recommend this collection on how good the first game is alone. It's still a neat puzzle game, and the graphical upgrade is really impressive. All the bonus content is also fun to poke through for fans like myself. The second game has…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic tale of revenge mostly told through sokoban puzzles. Seriously though, the games are fun, although I was clearly in the target audience for these games when I first played them when I was 13 or 14. The important thing to remember: everyone in this world is terrible. The world seems very sparse and tiny (they'll tell you that you must travel far to another region and it's 3 rooms away), the combat is super simple (but skippable 3/4 of the time, which is kinda cool), and the second game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 This game is tough and rough to play. It is however, wildly unique and fascinating. Your health in the real world is always depleting, so you can never rest. It is pretty much an open world, the type where you slowly unlock more and more areas, the exploration aspect is pretty neat. The combat is simple, yet works fine. It's not a fun combat, but there is not a lot of it either. The puzzles are interesting and very long. The whole game plays very slowly, you will…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Back in the day as a kid my pc could not run this game, This is a fun port with minor better graphics, you can see they gave some love to the cut scenes. Its not gonna blow you away graphically but its a great port of a great older game if you remember these. Overall Good to see another classic running good on modern hardware.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a great story. The remaster also looks pretty good. Scales in resolution, controllers work out of the box. Something that was a nightmare to get running on the old version. Seems to run stable too. Some textures and UIs don't seem to be upscaled consistently, but it's something you notice if you look for it. The problem though... The controls, the platforming, the combat. Mamma mia, did this not age well. I can't in good conscience recommend someone to actually play this themselves. I've…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even if the nostalgic joy of playing this classic with it's polished sheen wasn't enough (or if you missed out on playing the original years ago), it would still be worth picking up. Peak storytelling and one of the coolest villain?/hero? pairings in gaming.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →simply put, its the best and most convenient way to play this classic title. all the other ports are buggy and incompatible with modern hardware. also, the real-time remastered graphics option is a nice touch. personally, i find myself playing with the classic graphics, but its always nice to flip to the modern graphics from time to time to see how the art team handled the designs. - as for the games themselves, theyre absolutely timeless. SR1 is an amazing adventure game with solid…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are certain pieces of media which people recommend you engage with before a certain age; not necessarily because of the subject matter, but because at that age the work can have its maximum impact on you. Past a certain age, your experience will blunt that impact, perhaps even revealing the flaws of the work. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is a game I wished I had played at the age of 8, on a Playstation at a friend’s house, when it definitely would’ve blown my mind away. However, at age 28…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic! Classic games with a new coat of paint. I really enjoyed my playthrough but I would have preferred a remake. -Story is one of gamings best -Combat has aged very poorly and is the worst aspect of the games -Puzzles are quite fun but a few are fairly convoluted -Exploration is good but has quite a lot of backtracking Overall great games for the time they were made and these remasters are the best way to delve into the past and experience some video game history
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love this classic! The remaster is fantastic! Highly recommend picking this one up. Can't wait for the Defiance remaster that just got announced as well. Blood Omen 1 and 2 next?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →9/10 I remember playing SR1 when I was a child and only completely a few stages. Now picking it back up again and completing both SR1 & SR2, I am very happy that I did so. The story is amazing. the puzzles whist difficult are a very nice challenge. Great music, love that you can switch between both the old graphics and the re-mastered graphics. Think I picked this up when it was on sale. but well worth the the normal price to be honest.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Soul reaver 1 is as awesome as ever, the inputs feel good, the story is incredible. Nothing substantial about this release other than visual update and quality of life and it makes 1 look like 2 which is a good thing for the coherence of the series, even if some art direction is hit or miss. 2's update is less drastic because that game always looked good. Nothing else changed. But hey...the real reason to buy this...the support. The franchise could easily be revived, you can smell it on these…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Game That Inspired My Love For Writing There's so much to say about this series, specifically these two, but this is genuinely one of the most beautiful stories ever. Not beauty as in pretty, but just the depth it goes into and the character work. Both games are unfortunately very dated, and the Remaster does little beyond graphics to fix that. Because of this, my love is likely based in nostalgia. However, if you don't read past this: if you've ever been curious about Legacy of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was a good day when I found out Soul Reaver got a new coat of paint. From what I could tell this remaster is the same as the OG's with a few QoL's and updated visuals. The jank is still there with the camera and combat is still annoying at times but thats just part of the experience. Story is great, mechanics are the same, and now I gotta get Defiance for the conclusion. 10/10 if ur a returning player 8/10 for those who havn't played the IP before and don't mind the dated style
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great remaster. I hope they keep remastering this saga (and maybe even give it the closure it deserves).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah they did a decent job; same great game but updated enough to be playable on modern computers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a soft spot for soul reaver, as kid I used to think it was one of the coolest games ever which is an opinion I still hold, the games reminded me of shadow of the beast in a lot of ways, it's fantastic graphics, excellent music, genuinely interesting world design with a wonderful story all wrapped up in gameplay that is just ehhhhh. Firstly the remasters, they are the best way to experience these games especially on modern hardware. Whilst SR 1+2 and Blood omen 2 are on steam they…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played the original trilogy and was hooked from the get go. The remaster looks great. The only thing i didn't like was how the character's camera angle goes all over sometimes when fighting enemies(little nothing but annoying a bit). Overall really fun game(s). Will replay many times.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Things I expect from a remaster: -Updated visuals -Quality of life improvements Things this delivered: -Updated visuals -Everything awful about turn of the millennium gameplay and a good deal of jank to boot SR1 is dated and clunky, but I can see why it was so popular. Charming puzzles, nice level design, good boss fights. Of course it also has a camera that hates you and incredibly rudimentary combat, but sometimes you have to appreciate a game for its legacy as much as its own merits. SR2…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story is one of the most intricate, well played out narratives I've experienced in my 30 some odd years of gaming. I have to admit however that the gameplay is extremely outdated and it initially put me off the series until I watched a game movie on youtube for both, reigniting my desire to play them to completion and experience the events myself. I can only imagine how players of Blood Omen must have felt regarding the narrative's development and use of in-game events from the former game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It seems like they just updated the models, which do look great, but the environments were barely touched. I wouldn't be surprised if it was done with AI. Dual stick controls already existed as a mod for the Dreamcast version, and honestly the HD retextures of that version look better, aside from the models. SR2 was barely touched in general and has BUGS. I mean, come on. I ADORE this series but I'm not letting nostalgia cloud me on this one. This remake feels a little lazy. There could have…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This review is for soul reaver 1, as I haven't started part 2 yet. Very difficult to recommend this game in 2026. Its a puzzle platformer where the platforming is terrible. The controls are janky and finicky. The combat is actually garbage. The progression is weak. The graphics are dated and the remaster doesn't help. Very washed out, overall terrible art direction. The best parts of the game are the voice actors, and the puzzles. The puzzles are pretty good, somewhat…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Legacy of Kain is the giant whose shoulder's that subsequent games stand on. Released first in 1999, it's a nearly 30 year old game. Even though the platforming is a bit challenging at times, the game really is a perfect blend of combat, puzzles and platforming, not to mention the amazing story and atmosphere! It's such a fascinating and captivating dark-fantasy gothic world brought to life by Amy Hennig. Where Raziel was cast down the abyss for his transgression against his father Kain, only…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This must be the laziest remaster ever made, it almost look worse than the original and runs like crap.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This review may contain spoilers and might go all over the place, beware! I won't review Soul Reaver in detail, I've already done it before. It's a flawed masterpiece, one of the goats and 100% worth checking it out. The same can't be said about the sequel unfortunately, which I'll mostly focus on here and explore why it's a downgrade on almost every aspect. Soul Reaver is in my top 10 games of all time, played it since it came out and I revisit it every few years. Soul Reaver 2 however I've…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is a classic that still feels epic decades later. Replaying it, it still holds up as one of the most ambitious games of its era, with a massive, interconnected world that encourages exploration and even allows some freedom in how you progress. The story and mythos are standout elements, presenting a unique take on vampires and delivering a compelling journey through a fallen world. While the graphics are dated, the atmosphere and design still shine, and the variety…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing LoK since 2004 and this remaster is a great way to bring back the games. The graphics are improved, the games introduce new quality of life features (including a photo mode!) and keeps everything intact. SR1 benefits the most out of the two in graphics, obviously. The gameplay is clunky and unwieldy like the original versions, but the story, music, art directiona and voice acting more than make up for it. Absolutely a must for fans of old action adventure games and fans of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you played the original Soul Reaver games, these are just as you remember them. In fact, if you're playing on a controller, you can click the right stick to swap it from Remastered textures back to the originals. The Dynamic Music from the original on-disc game is back. So you'll hear the music kind of transition more than on the previous steam release. Great Remasters, Great Games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are games that pass through your hands and vanish the moment the screen goes dark. And then there are games that linger—like a prophecy half-understood, like a name whispered in a ruined cathedral. Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered belongs to the second kind. What makes these two games extraordinary isn’t only nostalgia or atmosphere—it’s voice. The dialogue is unabashedly Shakespearean: eloquent, venomous, mournful, and precise. Every exchange feels like a duel fought with language, where…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was shocked, when I heard that this is going to get Remastered. And when I had the opportunity to play, all i can say: Bravo, and thanks for delivering this Masterpiece of History with the new coat. "Soul Reaver" 1 Was, Is, and still Will the best. For the "Soul Reaver 2"... yeah... it's still not the best, bcs of the gameplay elements being worse that the SR1 have...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Game. Interesting story. Compelling characters and dialogue, mostly people yelling "KAIN !" and "Raziel!" at each other.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As somebody who never played the original and only now tried this version, the gameplay is simply too dated and uninteresting to keep me engaged after getting used to the various other modern action games. The narrative and story seemed interesting, but the combat really drags it down for me, unfortunately.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll be honest, I had never heard of Legacy of Kain until the remasters were brought to Steam and I'm glad it was so that I could experience these classic titles. The best thing about these games is, of course, the story. These games somewhat remind me of the first two Darksiders games - modern stories of dark fantasy with interesting lore and worldbuilding. All of the characters in these games have a rich maturity to them, which gives all of them a sense of depth and intrigue. There are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game breaking bug near the end of the first game! The pendulum platform makes it impossible to finish the level. Don't buy!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I haven't had much exposure to Legacy of Kain as a series, due to the series coming to an end when I was only seven months old, an oppressive gothic fantasy world like this has been calling my name for a long time. I'm a sucker for those type of settings, where the world itself is crying out, ripe with strife and destruction. I had very few expectations going in, but I still kept an open mind. Even though I am ultimately mixed due to problems with the remaster, I could recommend this…
