60 of 128 · most liked first“Land of the Dead,” a film about a real estate obsessed leader who’s happy to use and discard a Latino man and take his most loyal white guy for granted, meanwhile the symbolic proletariat has lost its interest in empty gestures of patriotism (fireworks).
unlabelledView post →Annual reminder that the 4th of July is a great time to rewatch “Land of the Dead” (esp. the gorier, fuller director’s cut). A movie about the efforts of the privileged (led by a real estate magnate) to keep the proles out; meanwhile, revolution bubbles as empty fireworks lose their effect.

unlabelledView post →Before Coco came along with the way it visualized the Land of the Dead, this was indeed one of the most visually mind-blowing visuals ever seen a Disney animated film. I remember being blown away as a kid when I first saw the Crescentia in the opening for the teaser on VHS.
unlabelledView post →Watching Land of the Dead. Unfairly pigeonholed as a lesser Romero zombie movie it's the on that's aged best.
unlabelledView post →Threw on LAND OF THE DEAD. Wild that Romero managed to get away with making a movie during the Bush-era where the denizens of a place strip mined by capitalist raiders launch an attack on a big tower and his sympathies clearly lie with them.
unlabelledView post →Picking a (not so) random film from my collection to show off for no real reason! Year 2, Day #313 "Land of the Dead" (George Romero/2005) Not the best of Romero's living dead series but certainly better than Diary and Survival. Some interesting ideas here and always a pleasure to see Asia Argento!

unlabelledView post →What’s a movie you saw 3 or more times in theaters? 👀 #filmsky I typically never liked to give movies repeat business at the theater, but in 2005, there was a time when I kept rewatching Batman Begins and Land of the Dead because I enjoyed the hell out of those so very much.

unlabelledView post →20) Land of the Dead (2005) I treasured this, the first Romero zombie film I saw at the movies. All the hallmarks were here as the zombie crisis escalated. As per Romero, there's sharp social commentary to match its sharp zombie teeth. Entertaining, thrilling, a testament to Romero's mad genius.
unlabelledView post →Share one of your comfort HORROR movies 🎥😱🖤 Land of the Dead (2005) is seriously underrated. I went through a phase of watching this movie almost every week. One of Romeo's best.
unlabelledView post →"LAND OF THE DEAD is Boetticher western with zombies." "THE THING is John Carpenter's Leone movie." Should try to do a thing looking at how much DNA a number of horror movies share with Westerns.
unlabelledView post →Just watched Land Of The Dead and I'm sorry to say I think I like it more than Dawn Of The Dead. I personally don't get the massive love Dawn gets. That said I like it. But Night Of The Living Dead and Day Of The Dead are both masterpieces. Just with a pretty good movie sandwiched between them.
unlabelledView post →All in all a good week in the land of horror. "Land of the Dead" was better than I anticipated; "Children of the Damned" is more retread than sequel, but still OK. "The Fly" is a truly successful remake (the original was good too). #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched #Filmsky
unlabelledView post →I rewatched Land of the Dead last night. That movie never gets old. It was released 19 years ago but like all 6 Dead movies, it is deeply prescient. The latest movie chronologically on the franchise timeline, I think there's a strong argument for it being the most relevant of the lot in 2024.
unlabelledView post →I'm skeptical this needs to exist when we actually have Romero's Land of the Dead, which as I understand it incorporated a lot of his abortive Resident Evil movie. also related, I hate it when a filmmaker dies and they become a Stan Lee/Walt Disney figure like this youtu.be/4iV_uZ_B8aM?...
unlabelledView post →Land of the Dead. I do agree with people that it's a very underappreciated Romero movie. The main character is as bland as unseasoned chicken but you got Dennis Hopper being a deliciously over the top villain, John Leguizamo being good over the top and class revolt vibes with the zombos. Good shit.
unlabelledView post →Outside of Romero's original trilogy, it's hard to imagine a more consequential post-apocalyptic horror movie than Boyle's 28 DAYS LATER - led to Snyder's DAWN OF THE DEAD remake, LAND OF THE DEAD, THE HAPPENING, I AM LEGEND, THE ROAD, REC, WORLD WAR Z, THE WALKING DEAD, and so many others.

I won't say it's his BEST, but it's my personal favorite. He's got a significant budget for him and he uses it all, and it looks great!

Maybe Land of the Dead another?

unlabelledView post →The film has made a really great job of making both the Land of the Living and the Land of the Dead as vastly different to each other. The former felt drab, grey and unwelcoming and the latter felt lively, colourful and hospitable, presumably inspired by Burton's respect of the Day of the Dead.

Romero, film director & writer who brought us Night of the Living Dead (1968), Dawn of the Dead (1978), Day of the Dead (1985), Land of the Dead (2005), Diary of the Dead (2007), & much more. He passed away on this day in 2017 #horrorcommunity #horrorfamily #georgearomero
unlabelledView post →Land of the Dead is a movie that gets better and (unfortunately) more relevant every year. Also there’s a fat Samoan guy named Pillsbury. Great stuff.
unlabelledView post →Valid, but it was about a decade later in the real world. They use the word "zombies" in Romero's later films, most notably Land of the Dead. Fulci's movie really solidified the use of that word to represent ghouls, and Hollywood grabbed onto that and ran with it.
