Knox Goes Away
A contract killer, after being diagnosed with a fast-moving form of dementia, is presented with the opportunity to redeem himself by saving the life of his estranged adult son. But to do so, he must race against the police closing in on him as well as the ticking clock of his own rapidly deteriorating mind. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →Michael Keaton directed and stars in KNOX GOES AWAY, an understated crime tale in the growing subgenre of "professional killer finds out he has dementia and tries to take care of a few things before it gets too bad." I liked this one and Keaton is really great in it.
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching #KnoxGoesAway (2023) I like this crop of "hitman loses his memory" stories we've been getting these past few years. It's a compelling subgenre. They also tend to be actor's showcase pieces, and this is no exception. I dig that.

unlabelledView post →KNOX GOES AWAY is an "old man film" like the kind Clint Eastwood would churn out between UNFORGIVEN and MILLION DOLLAR BABY, and the fact that Michael Keaton got to make his own BLOOD WORK is pretty fucking cool.

The movie feels like a long-overdue spiritual successor to "Memento," with Knox writing things down, and slowly losing it. There is a whole noir layer in the movie, but it felt more like a pretext to show dealing with own's impeding death. And it's funny at the same time. #KnoxGoesAway

unlabelledView post →Absolution was... ok. I expected a typical Liam Neeson movie that would be every dad's favorite movie of the year. But it was more on the drama side of things which was fine. So similar to Michael Keaton's Knox Goes Away from earlier in the year, except that was an actual good movie.
unlabelledView post →Knox Goes Away / Assassin's Plan might be my fav of the year. No idea how Keaton pulled off a film that successfully balances being a thriller, genuinely amusing and devastating. May have cried.

unlabelledView post →@Leefromphilly Thanks for the recommedation, Lee. Regarding, #rottentomatoes, it is vulnerable to review bombing, although I don’t know that #knoxgoesaway was/is a particular target. But because of the past problems, I put less credence in its scores than I once did. I haven’t looked into that problem with #imdb. But I’ve never particularly relied on IMDb for reviews, either.
