unlabelledView post →We found a cute movie last night on AppleTV. It's called Flora and Son. If there was hype about this film in 2023, we missed it. If you like good scripts, cursey Irish people and family dynamics, this is a sweet cuddle-up-on-the-couch watch. Even my action/adventure spouse liked it a lot.

Like he did with his other projects (Once, Sing Street, Flora and Son), he places the music front and center. unlabelledView post →I watched FLORA AND SON this morning. The John Carney film that I missed upon its initial release. When I was a film critic, I might have had a few notes, but as a singer/songwriter and the son of a single mom, I have none. It's not Carney's best, but it fooking worked on me all right

unlabelledView post →Director John Carney (Flora and Son) is on the money when he said "The sheer and ongoing depth of Irish talent coming through internationally is not a great surprise". This is the result of years of building a strong indigenous film industry, which is now making waves worldwide. #Irishfilm
unlabelledView post →Just watched Flora and Son on Apple TV. A thoroughly charming film about connecting and family and music and unashamedly feel good. I highly recommend it.
unlabelledView post →Watching this film Flora and Son — it's really good. An Irish mum in Dublin struggles with her rebellious son Max. Police suggest a hobby, so she gives him a beat-up guitar. With help from a washed-up LA musician (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), they discover music’s transformative power.

unlabelledView post →Power Ballad is a typical John Carney movie: music and romance. Though this isn't in the vain of 'Sing Street', 'Begin Again', or 'Once', it continues what he did with 'Flora and Son'. If you have seen a Carney movie before and enjoyed it, you'll find things to like in this. (1/3)
unlabelledView post →He made a movie called Flora and Son a couple of years ago. You might check it out if you haven’t seen it. Not as good as Sing Street imo but worth watching if you like his work.

unlabelledView post →Flora and Son Written and directed by John Carney; starring Eve Hewson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Orén Kinlan, Jack Reynor Trying to find a hobby to keep her wayward son out of trouble, a young Dublin single mother ends up learning the guitar herself. The cast is convincing and the film has some heartwarming moments. But the plot feels superficial, lacking in drama and ultimately gives you little reason to care. unlabelledView post →Writer / director John Carney is the master of making crowd-pleasing films for music lovers, and his latest won’t disappoint. “Flora and Son” is a terrific addition to his filmography (“Once,” “Begin Again,” “Sing Street“) and it fits in quite nicely with a simple, tidy story that’s easily accessible to all audiences. Flora (Eve Hewson) is a young, sassy divorced mom to delinquent teen Max (Orén Kinlan), a boy who has been in trouble most of his life. The two live in Dublin in a small flat, and…

unlabelledView post →There's not a great deal of plausibility with this story, but I still really quite enjoyed it. "Flora" (Eve Hewson) has a sort of hate/hate relationship with her pretty wayward fourteen year old lad "Max" (Orén Kinlan) as she struggles to make ends meet while his dad "Ian" (Jack Reynor) has shacked up with his new, pseudo-Spanish, girlfriend. "Max" is a typical unruly kid: into petty theft, a girl who isn't going to look at him twice and "Flora" is at her wits end. Returning from work one…
positive · AI labelView post →Watching Flora And Son I've never met a John Carney film I haven't liked, and bearing in mind one of them had James Corden in it that means I'm predisposed to like this deadbeat Mum learning to play guitar from a smooth as silk Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
