What people are saying
Mixed reception: praised for unique RTS concepts, but criticized for bugs and grind.
Some players enjoy the game's unique blend of RTS elements, comparing it to classics like Battle for Middle Earth and noting its engaging battles and large maps. However, many others find the game deeply flawed, citing terrible pathfinding, a grindy gem system, and a lack of polish that makes it feel unfinished. [4][9][10][21][23][34]
A recurring complaint is the mandatory online login to access the tech tree, which some see as a data grab. Others allege the developer recycles the same engine across multiple titles, leaving each game in an unfinished state. [27][30][31]

Unit control is awful, exceptionally while scaling walls, you have to take each unit and guide it to its target with breadcrumbs and even then you are not sure to succeed since units freeze in place. Pathfinding algorithms were not invented yesterday. The whole fun of controlling a large army is ruined by this nanomanagement of units. Unplayable, lost my nerve over unit control on the second map.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game avoids being good by polluting itself with built in card collecting and tech unlocks outside of the actual playable levels. If you don't figure out what you need, purchase it and unlock it before you play, you simply cannot proceed properly. Even if you do research enough to start a playable level you find yourself constrained to the levels script. You built what you are told to in the order instructed. You DO NOT get to build or design castles, only buildings and units. Each level…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →INCREDIBLY buggy and HORRIBLE pathfinding. Ridiculous "tech" system using gems that are earned by playing a LOT and logging in every day. However, in an absolutely ASININE move, none of the techs work in offline mode. Not even worth the $1 I paid for.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is insanely unpolished. Its like it was made in 2001. Commanding your units is a freaking atrocity.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate the dichotomous nature of this rating system. Its either good or bad, and often these things are more complex. Honestly I give it 51 percent positive, the concept is great but I feel like it needs alot of clean up. For instance the icon doesnt change from the move icon (which produces a flag) so youre not really sure what theyll do. Movement lines and a different Icon maybe a good idea, also the units are slow to react. I hope they keep going because concept is excellent but I just hope…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not just disrecommending, but dropping the game entirely for several reasons. The campaign is about as close to "on rails" as an RTS can get. The "survive the waves of enemies" goes on for far too long on some missions. I once had an impregnable defense set up after about 20 minutes, and had to go play another game while I waited another 30+ minutes for the mission to end itself. The storywriting/narration gets incredibly cringey at times. I have never wanted to *tips fedora* at a narrator as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well time has come to type a review about this game after i have finished main campaign, the time iam typing this i have almost 47 hour played .Iam not typing reviews often, but i found time for this one because i have to say i really enjoyed a game despite some bugs i have encountered. Before i start i have to say KW2 definitive edition its way nicer then original with improved graphic, but still a bit outdated graphic for this time, but that didnt discouraged me from enjoying it.I have been…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this game, but simply can't. The best way I can describe it is a mix of Strongholds and Warcraft. The game has many cool and unique aspects. Three races each with a ton of unique units, heroes, mages, monsters and tech (although they have to be unlocked), the ability to build and uppgrade your stronghold, units that lvl up the longer they stay alive and fight, slain units rises as zombies giving you a another threat to keep in mind. It's like someone peered into my mind…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pls heed the warnings. I too have witnessed this and it's predecessors. the graphics and basic engine are charming, but games always remain in an unfinished state, just as this one is. and then they launch a new spinoff. I feel bad about having given them any more money on this scheme. but the game was running so slowly i fell asleep during what was basically the tutorial and no longer qualify for a refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a glorified mobile game. It calls itself a city builder, but you can't decide where to build your city. You click a button on the town hall and a wall gets built around a random area. You read that right: in this STRATEGY game, you cannot decide on your STRATEGY. It is predetermined for you. The wall goes in a predetermined place. Want to block that chokepoint? Too bad. Want to concentrate your defenses to avoid having to defend a long, strung-out wall? Too bad. The towers go in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →!!!!! DEAD GAME !!!!!!!! Do not support this by blowing more money into this incapable dev team. What a mess, they broke all data once just to lose all our progress in KW1 & 2 INCLUNDING DLCs in KW1 which I paid for!!!! Then they bring this dead mess where they force you to grind again for basically a third time. Seriously guys, what the hell are you thinking? Why did you even waste your time making this game, while the KW 2 version was dead anyway? It was hard to find players even short…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really good game, brings me back to Battle for Middle earth series many years ago! if thats the type of game you like then this is the game for you! , Story is not to long and has some nice battles going on. The game gives you that cheese a RTS should give you . highly recommended
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You can find probably 15-20 iterations of same game. And this is one of them. This is hype developer, that constantly iterates same engine, different cores, and resell the same game. If the game has some success they slap some DLC-on it. again reiterations. It is fine to Dodge it, or get it as super cheap prices.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Be me: Turn on the game Be game: "please log in to use multiplayer" Be me: No thank you, you don´t get my data. Be game: Ok, you can´t access tech tree and there is no button to log in. Devs are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ retarded, i would refund this garbage if i didn´t recieve it as a gift from a friend.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grindy mess of a game, I mainly played it for survival which was quite fun. But its just SO grindy, you'll sit for hours to gain a single upgrade, and there are MANY upgrades in the game. I actually sat through the grind, and almost maxed out the humans. And then they did a hard reset for some reason, and I had to start all over. Clunky game, tons of bugs, and the hard reset being one of the DUMBEST things I've ever seen done in a game like this. Nothing like working several weeks to unlock…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting game, bad fundamentals UI reminds me of a game from the 2000s, information is displayed in so many different ways that it is hard to find a common theme, but you do get used to it eventually.. What is however absolutely horrendous is the pathfinding. Units will instead of walking along the wall for 20 more meters just go back down the siege towers and stand in front of the wall waiting to die. I appreciate the difficulty of pathfinding in more than just a 2D plane but the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a lot to like about the concepts for this game. The three races all have very different playstyles, strengths, and weaknesses. There's a nice unit variation, with frontliners, cavalry, ranged support, even magic casters. A technology system for each faction that unlocks not only new buildings and units, but upgrades for those units that are then purchased from buildings in-game. The maps are nice and varied, with resource nodes and enemy/monster camps scattered around, affording you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do like this game and it's a cheap budget title. There are better RTS games, but for as cheap as it is, it's pretty good. The races are fairly unique and the unlock and card system are a unique choice that rewards playing a lot. The orcs are my favorite and spawn units constantly but each race has their own benefits. The survival is an excellent time as well. I particularly like sending my orc fodder units to their death and then harvesting their corpses for infinite resources.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Survival mode is basically unplayable. There is a glitch that keeps happening where soldiers are no longer able to go through the gates even when they are open.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I started checking the news on my phone because i got so bored during the first, seemingly endless battle. Kingdom Wars 2 is a truly terrible product in pretty much every way possible. Its only use is as a bad example. Seriously, they should use this game in game design courses and just tell students to do the exact opposite of what the developers did in every instance. There's no save function. The graphics are so bad they would've been embarassing a decade ago. You need gems to unlock all…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dislike the gem system, and in general it could be a lot better with a lot of polish. Wish there was a neutral review option. EDIT: Sadly it seems the main reason I bought the game originally won't be added, and so I must amend my review. I no longer wish for a neutral review option, but will leave the original review unedited.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Completely bugged I've played only 40 minutes, and these are all the technical problems that ocurred in such a small time: - Random game freezes / or FPS drops - Units bugging in place unable to keep doing the tasks they're ordered to - Units not responding to commands - Bad pathfinding - I couldn't finish the first tutorial mission because when it came the time to switch sides (from human to orcs gameplay), the game bugged and failed to actually switch me to the Orc side. It gave me…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cant recommend this one. KW1 was a super unique but absolutely broken mmorts that was a solid base. They should have built upon that. Instead, they made a fantasy AOE clone with terrible input lag and unsatisfying game play. Why does this game have to be always online during single player missions? The skirmish matches are not good enough to play over AOE or Dawn of War games while the single player is flat out boring due to how clunky everything is.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-A FEW WORDS FIRST If you want to play a decent game from this company then go get Medieval Kingdom Wars. Braindead AI, bad path finding, only 3 factions, limited maps are few of the bad things I can say. Don't waste your hard earned money on this. Waste them on their other game, at least there you'll have some fun. Have in mind this is a 3 people company. So I gotta give them credit for that. But yeah, go play their other game, not this one. This should be free to play. (All these below…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love the game even tho it may look quite a bit old like 2008 old its got an odd drawing factor to it but i cannot say get the game personally due to a pretty big issue in my opinion anyway i can run heavy demanding game on my portable gaming laptop yes i said the bruh word but the fact that even with the game on its lowest possible graphic settings im tanking down to 25 to 15 frames makes this pretty unplayable for an RTS hopefully it gets the improvements it needs but im not one to hold my…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Updates are trash always IA changes that never help, camera/Home Page work never what we want to see aka Steam work Shop and game get stagnant fast as you cant add new maps or be allowed to make maps or have better gamemodes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game resemble a mix between stronghold and age of empires with a touch of total war series, Mainly based on the 100 hundred years war period with a lot of gestional stuff regards cities wich are also historical accurate with historical maps. IT need some pathfinding and performance tweaks but soo faar is worth the price
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy ! Do not support this studio of scammers. While this is the only unique game of their catalog, they otherwise made the same game every year while changing the name, for TEN YEARS ! Enough of this now. It would be time that steam banned this studio.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →for the most part i actualy like this game but more often than not i cant log in to play online and unlock things as i play ik that its not my computer or internet so its on the games side once this is fixed ill be happy to change the review
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is less like Medieval Kingdom Wars and more like Battle for Middle Earth. However, it does have a unique twist and feel to it. If you're looking for Kingdom Wars with functioning zombies, then this is the only place to get it at the moment. I really like the massive bloody fantasy battles and the looming threat of the dead rising if the bodies are not taken care of. The gem upgrade system also gives you a good incentive to keep playing because the things you can unlock are really cool…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fun, if you are playing humans. The elf faction needs to be rebalanced because most of their units dont do much at all, if youre fighting hydras then theres no counter the idea that the polearm units are a counter to them is laughable because the amount of splash damage they deal is rediculous so as an elf player youd think building a meat sheild then spamming archers would be good? nope they barely do ♥♥♥♥ for damage so the archers for the elf faction are awful. I really want this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this awhile back and just got around to playing it. To sum it up in one word, Regret. I hope I didn't pay much for it, its an awful game with terrible graphics. The build menus for each building aren't well thought out at all and buildings are difficult to figure out what they do from appearance like in most other games of this type. I can only hope this was only a $5 ish dollar purchase, I'm scared to look to see what I really paid. Would NOT recommend for much more then the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is coming from a guy that isn't really into RTS games... This title is actually very enjoyable. Back in the late 90's early 2000's, I used to play Warcraft 2, and this campaign reminded me just how fun and addictive they can become. I've only played an hour, but I'm sure to keep playing it a lot more in the future. You can zoom in-out, move around the camera smoothly and rotate to get a good view of your kingdom and people. The graphics are actually well done for a small dev team;…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →hmmm, this game is a passion project, and thats the best i can say about it. I cant say about how much of that is true since its simply based on the other reviews and how its still being updated +the campaign. But sadly even if your dried up in the Sahara desert of rts's, and you find this game at the bottom of the barrel vs the horrid age of mythology Asian dlc. I would pick that horrid dlc instead. This game feels like it was made at the turn of the century game despite the original game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ambitious strategy game, but unforgivably laggy. For some reason, this feels like an always-online MMO, with booster cards and daily login bonuses. Maybe the developer was trying to focus on competitive multiplayer, but that was the totally wrong idea. The first one is free, so you might as well check that one out, but it wasn't all that special, and this one is even worse! OVERALL SCORE: 2/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is worse UI/UX for real...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →my point of view, this is one the good strategy games i have played. The graphic is decent, the battles funny and enganging, the map is huge, you can choose between many different camera angles, and the game is just getting better for every update!(even though the game still has some bugs. There are much more positive than negative things on this game, and that is why recommend it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3/10 played 3 of these Kingdom Wars games now and they all seem to have the same bugs and problems.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, I didn't mind the game overall, but there were some glaring issues that stood out. 1. Defending yourself is made ridiculously/hilariously more irritating by the fact that when you man your walls and towers, about half of your archers will stand there, inexplicably twitching in place, while attackers charge, bust through your walls, and stab them to death. You have to watch each unit, make sure they're firing, and if not, pull that unit off the walls. Also, their pathfinding makes…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I grew up on Lords of the Realm II, Stronghold, Age of Empires and later the Total War Warhammer games, so I really wanted to like this game. But in this day and age of high quality games in this genre I wasn't able to get past the 'B' quality execution of everything from the visuals, to the clunky animation and AI. It just diminishes the whole experience and fantasy. If you're looking for AAA execution you won't find it here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best waiting simulator ever. Setup defenses for final chapter of the campaign - fought over 10 waves for zombies which lasted over 2 hours. Had no idea when the ♥♥♥♥ will end, did some dishes and laundry, came back but ♥♥♥♥'s still happening :) Only buy when on discount.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically unplayable. Loads in a different language, change language and menus are still in the other language. "Play Online" does nothing, incredibly buggy with the graphics of 2004. Save your cash on this one folks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't recommend it due to how buggy and unresponsive it is. It's not uncommon to see units floating around midair trying to get up a siege tower, or refusing to move at all, being seemingly stuck. Or just being generally unresponsive and clunky. These kind of issues are the worst you can have in an RTS... so I simply can't recommend it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →isn't worth picking up the game they just find another reason to bring out another one with just as many problems and Bugs and it is rare to even see them respond to any comments they are a small team but somehow working on Medieval Kingdom Wars and Kingdom Wars The Plague and Kingdom Wars 2 Definitive Edition and Kingdom Wars as they quote combines the best of Zombie survival and crafting with complex fast-paced city building. Fight massive siege battles that turn beautiful reality is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really admire, that developer don't give up, and it is still upgrading and fixing this game :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is the one that made me cautious of the indie game genre
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is full of bugs and never works! It is laggy on all my friends computer and we can never play the game! Don't waste your money!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun at the start of its life but the devs killed it off ages ago.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The peasants gathering resources are bugged and they keep going to the previous resource node and not tho the one you order them, so they keep going outside the walls and dying. It's frustrating!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →can't save mid-game so I don't have time for this graphics look terrible and some of the icons are lower resolution than games made 30 years ago requires you to enroll in online community to play single-player mode 2/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needs more players, fun game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i bought this game for $2 or so on sale and it was not worth the money, the factions have cool ideas but the AI ia ass, a hard level orc ai could not beat an easy level human ai, it would send 6 squads of minotaur to get murdered by archers and then send 5 or so catapults and 2 siege towers and NOTHING ELSE to take the walls, not a single catapult fired one shot, then in a second game i tried a hard elf ai and the hard orc ai together vs the easy human ai, within the same amount of time it took…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zombies are pretty cool on here games alil buggy but i have fun!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good game the devs are a bit iratic but its well worth the money asked
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A brilliant game with a great team behind it as updates are frequent and the game is one that is just getting better and better I have played alot of line on my laptop so my hours are hard to judge but it's easy into 100 and still plays great
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combines so many different mechanics from different strategy games, and doesnt really excel in any of them. Will say that for a small development team, this is an incredibly ambitious undertaking so I don't blame them for this game being incredibly unpolished. That being said, even though it does combine elements from games like Age of Empires and Total War, I still don't see any reason to play this over those
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended if you want to try something really uniqe in the RTS genre. It had a lot of bugs when it launched, still has some, but the developers constantly working on it,and right now it is playable and enjoyable.
