positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38888018-United-Critics/] Please follow United Critics for quality reviews Kingdom of the Dead Review Good things: This game is a good FPS with unique graphic style that I loved. I liked that there were many art styles to choose from so anyone can pick their favorite. This game also has good feeling guns that all pack a punch and are pleasure to use. I liked also how the levels are build as they are logical in their layout so you don’t need any map…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Meh, get it on sale. It isn't bad, just mediocre. I would say a 6.5 out of ten. Here are my thoughts: The game's ok. It has an excellent art style. Honestly pretty fun gameplay although the AI isn't much to boast about. Good response mechanics. Weapons feel very powerful. However, the game has multiple issues: - gets repetitive fast. Really fast. Maybe I just don't like boomer shooters enough or something because I only played for half an hour. This is likely the most subjective of my…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An average game. You'd better go for Dusk, Project Warlock 1 or Forgive me Father.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How hard must it be to make your first-person shooter stand out in 2022? Sometimes it seems like every concept under the sun has been covered, with every possible aesthetic and system thoroughly explored. Yet, somehow we still get games like Kingdom of the Dead, that manage to carve out a unique look and feel from the vast fields of shooters. Dark, pulpy, funny, and grim, it strikes a singular balance that you really won’t find anywhere else. I certainly can’t say this one breaks new ground in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →KINGDOM of the DEAD is one of those games that made me want to play it by the sheer greatness of its style. The trailer looked and also sounded amazing and I could already see myself running and gunning through masses of undead hordes whilst banging to the great synthwave soundtrack. Now, when I first started the game, I couldn't help but feel slightly underwhelmed, even cheated on a bit. The artstyle looks superb and there are even options for a vast array of different color settings if…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was kinda underwhelmed by the game. The visual style is nice. But this game is very mediocre in it's gameplay sadly. bad stuff: -performance problems at few points, wasn't a big deal for me as it was mostly at the start of the first level. -shotgun is underpowered, also the reload animation is too fast in the way that right after the animation is done you still can't fire, there is a very notable delay there -you have to recollect your weapons in EACH level -after you die you respawn at the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I know it seems unfair to write a review with such a short time in game, but this just disappointed me. First off, the obvious. The game is gorgeous. Like, it's just beautiful. It looks as good in motion as it looks in the screenshots. That's where the positives end though. The devs expected the graphics to carry this game hard, and it just doesn't. I expected a competent modern-old-school FPS a la Dusk or Amid Evil but apparently that bar is way too high. The level design is nowhere as good.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boomer shooter-lite. Oddly relaxing. Beautiful design, great feel (shooting & movement), some of the levels seem like they received more love than others and the bosses are too easy. Definitely worth the price though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kingdom of the Dead is a unique and stylized shooter with some interesting ideas, that ultimately suffers from a lack of polish and excessive jank. Pros: - Really nice visual presentation with a distinct b&w artstyle. - Solid gunplay and decent enemy variety. - An interesting Lovecraft inspired world. - Varied levels with decent level design. - Cool soundtrack. Cons: - Terrible audio mixing. Inconsistent volume levels on ambient sounds, and some sounds like the distant monster growls are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting art stlye and setup, but generic shooter gameplay with little to offer. Another game with focus on visuals above gameplay. + The art style is indeed interesting. Not just the black-and-white, comic-aesthetic but also design of the enemies and even levels. + Intriguing setup. + The cacademon-equivalent's orbs being shotable was a good design choice. - Lackluster weapon design. Especially the sword. You would think that a demonic sword would be powerful, but you need to hit the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off if you like indy and small developmental teams that create games, I'm sure Kingdom of the Dead (KotD) will fit the bill. I'm giving KotD a thumbs up because it is worth it for the $14.99 price tag and an even better deal if it's on sale! I'm going to be a little more critical of KotD than I normally would only because there are a literal F-ton of indy FPS's to compare it to. Let's get down to it! Pros * Completely unique art style, apparently all the animation is hand drawn. I dig it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visual artstyle is interesting, but you are getting used to it after 30 minutes of playing, and then the game starts getting repetitive, boring and clunky. Enemies are running into you like headless dummies, eagles can't be seen in the skies, and bosses are just bullet-sponges for your shotgun. When you are getting the minigun, you just don't need it in the late part of the mission. Interaction with the explosives is clunky, you can't be sure that it will detonate on an impact (instead of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Good • Immersive Atmosphere: Kingdom of the Dead successfully creates a dark and atmospheric world that draws players into its eerie and captivating narrative. • Intriguing Storyline: The game features a compelling storyline with twists and turns that keep players engaged and eager to uncover the mysteries within. • Creative Enemy Designs: The variety and creativity in enemy designs contribute to challenging and visually interesting encounters throughout the game. • Exploration Rewards:…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man this game is kinda cool.... Jesus CHRIST it needs hella polish tho. Performance is miserable and has very clearly no proper loading system. Options are insanely limited. And somehow I ran into a flying booba harpy that had infinite health but also couldnt deal any damage to me. So it just followed me around the entire map screeching at me in the most annoying manner. Please put in some work devs tyty
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →final boss softlocked 5 times so sick of this garbage
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, the black & white visuals, with hand drawn textures, looks good. However, the levels are terribly linear. It feels almost like a shooting gallery. There are nine levels, but it's still fairly short. The ship level has a nice twist though.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game looks great, but that's it. It runs like diarrhea; dropping frames like a greased up photographer. The enemies don't really telegraph when they're being hit or showing up. The sounds only sometimes work. It's laggy as all hell. Somebody gave up on this game long before finishing it. That person was also me, but mostly it was those that made the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game but sadly not enough content. Good artstyle and decent gunplay with nice gore effects and dismemberments. Unfortunately the clunky movements, janky physics and mediocre level design prevent KINGDOM of the DEAD from being a must have. The game also doesn't have much content for the price being asked in my opinion. It's not a bad game but it's just nothing special in this over saturated retro fps market. Recommending only if you can snag it during a deep sale. Full price certainly not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is in no way, shape or function a "bad" game. It's just not. The art style carries this game. That said, it's very short, the levels are easy to memorize, and the gun catalogue is small. Overall, the game scores a personal 6/10. It does what it advertises, leaves you wanting something more. Where many games are "ok," this game floats around surface level of "ok."
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a game made of the best parts of other boomer shooters without really understanding why those parts are good, you got the double barrel with cool animations, but its bad, you got fast movement! but you dont actually need it, you got a whole host of enemies! but they are just the same all the shooters and just dudes that walk around and shoot at you, most of the enemies are humanoids that have head shot weaknesses all the levels follow the set path of (get to the end) plus the secondary of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like a College Project the Dev put a lot of extra work into so they could sell it. The Art Style is really unique but that's all I enjoyed. The Music is goofy, weapons are boring and the AI is just awful. Enemies run in a straight line toward you, that's every enemy encounter. The Boat level is also super broken - you will gets caught on geometry and die nonstop. Not Recommended.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun enough shooter with a great art style. not worth the asking price but on sale its pretty cool
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the art style as it reminded me of Mundaun (one of my favorite horror games) but everything else about the game is decent. The game just felt very tedious by the end but it is worth picking up while on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is so close to being really good, however there are too many glitches that cause you to clip out of the map and then have to wander around until you find a spot where the game recognizes you're out of bounds and kills you. If you can't do that, you have no choice but to restart the whole level since there's checkpoint loading unless you die and the game only autosaves in between missions. There are also terrible and constant glitches with enemies being stuck in walls and being able…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →sound design is cool. art style is also cool. controls are fine. headshots payoff.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →KINGDOM of the DEAD is a pretty average shooter with an excellent atmosphere. The gunplay and level design are pretty average. The game is really straight forward and can be completed it a few sittings (I managed to 100% it in about 5 hours). The music is zany and the color really complements the theme. I recommend it, even if you only play it a few times to finish.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →while visually great and having a fun premise, I just... couldn't get into this kind of game. the AI are just rush-down or ranged enemies. if they are rush-down, they obviously run right at you. however, they have no unique mechanics to them besides how they come at you (minus the Harpies, who just... fly with strafing runs). the ranged enemies are all the same though, where they walk up to their minimum range requirement (they only move closer if their AI says "you're out of range"), stand…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad game however it is quite short, quite easy, and therefore quite overpriced @ $15. You can get it to the end without rushing in about 4 hours. The biggest thing it's got going is its great visual style. However, it's somewhat unfortunate that the game is just a braindead shooter. Even though it works for a braindead shooter, I would much rather see it for a full on horror game. I wouldn't say it's entirely wasted - the game is creepier because of it and still fun regardless, but once…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An FPS with a cool black and white art style where you fight legions of the undead. So my immediate problem is that the levels are checkpointed, but if I quit the game and come back I have to start the level completely over. These levels are not short. Apart from that the gameplay is okay. I like the art style and the music, but the gameplay feels so-so. Also the stutters every time I fire a gun. Really though my main issue is with a game that I can't quit and come back to without having to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played through 5 levels so far, what I assume to be roughly half the game, and I think I've played enough that my opinion will not likely change upon finishing the game. This is just good. Not amazing/great, but good. The FPS gunplay is competent. All the humanoid enemies feel good to kill, the non-humanoids don't feel as good, but they are the minority by far. Very much reminds me of Painkiller but more stylized and a bit better combat. The art, style, music and resulting atmosphere…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This feels more like an early alpha than a game. It has a distinctive art style, but that doesn't mean it actually looks good or the visuals are well designed. The combat is awful, enemies are janky, move oddly and are rather boring to fight. This game really highlights why an fps is more than just an environment and enemies thrown in randomly. There is very little flow to most encounters, the locations are uninteresting and weapons are just handed to the player without much care and and most…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Please do not play this game if you have any sort of sensitivity to light or symptoms of seizures. There is not a proper warning on start-up or the store page; but there is very aggressive flashing from weapons when in dark areas. In the first level there is a chaingun paired with a series of dark chambers which means there is a blinding white flash every single time the gun fires, which is about 3-4 shots per second. There are color settings to change the appearance of the game but there are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ultrakill meets Blood but also it's Edgar Allen Poe. Fun little shooter with good schmovement and satisfyingly punchy weapons with very high accuracy. Even on the highest difficulty a headshot with even the basic revolver kills most enemies in one shot. The level designs with a mix of open spaces and tight spiral staircases and corridors and tombs combined with some great enemy ambushes mean you have to play both fast but also methodically. Good enemy variety and designs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got it on sale - Solid game, doesn't try to be anything it isn't, movement and level design are fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →got softlocked in the ship level where i couldn't climb up the slanted walls and reach the boss. tried repeatedly, no show. had to refund unfortunately.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mechanically not deep enough for what it wants to be. The enemy designs make sense, but in execution very basic AI makes them feel very bland. The selection of weapons makes sense (melee sword, allrounder pistol, close quarters shotgun, long range rifle, does-it-all minigun), but it feels to unsatisfying and enemies are too basic to really encourage situational awareness of when which weapon would be best. Sword has a charge mechanic for an AoE attack, again cool concept but not that satisfying…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice art, gameplay is a little basic and not particularly challenging but picked up for £5 in a fanatical bundle. Can't complain really
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun, concise and well designed
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What I'm about to say may be controversial, but perhaps you should view this game as a kind of speedrunning training...? Don't get me wrong: it's a fine descendant of Quake with a monochrome style (which actually hurts it in some regards, even though the aesthetic is cool), and you're supposed to be doing headshots for ammo conservation and swapping weapons according to the type of enemies in front of you, BUT, besides of the interesting setpieces on each level, the most effective strategy is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the most fun FPS I have played in some time. It is heavily Golden Eye inspired with age/secret agent/00 agent difficulties and the level is a grid of files that all have a theme. The levels are all totally unique from one another fun (train, farm, frontline, mansion, etc. etc), they for the most part have unique bosses and mechanics. The shooting is simple, but in a way that just works. You point at the head, you get a head shot, satisfying plunk. Many of the enemies move slow, so the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool style, but short a bit buggy and the developer seems to abandon. Get it when it's on sale if you want a neat little boomer shooter.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A unique visual style and a simple but effective gameplay loop with a solid mix of weapons and enemies make for a fun, if short game. Worth a look if you're itching for a bite of shooter and the big names like Dusk aren't catching your eye.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Core game is good. I really liked the art style, it was interesting. Gameplay was satisfying, albeit a tad easy. Level design was okay, the levels looked cool but they were usually fairly basic. The big issue with the game is the bugs. Game tends to bug out for me, enemies would often glitch into walls, I would get stuck etc. Achievements don't work properly, they are very bugged out and don't unlock when they should or when you should unlock one achievement you will instead unlock a random…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has good music and looks good when it isn’t pitch-black and there are a lot of that. The shooting feels okay, but the game is really easy, and the enemies are very slow. The game is also buggy and very short. I wouldn’t recommend spending your time on it, especially at that price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gunplay is great, which really carries the game, even moreso than the art style. I would imagine that the art style would turn some people off, but I really enjoyed it. It almost gives it a static feel when you're running, kind of like you're watching a B movie on an old fuzzy tube TV. The music ranges from OK to pretty good, but a lot of it doesn't seem to fit the tone very well. Lots of little bits of jank here and there, like "dropping" in to the office at the end of the level, weird/bad…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game has an interesting visual style but can be buggy, if you enjoy 100% any games there are a few frustrating one even in less then 2 hours of gameplay... -enemies stuck inside wall (note that this bug is consistant so if you replay the level they'll remain at the same position) -Crypt level isn't counted as cleared in level selection. (Don't know if this one's consistant tho but it happened twice to me so i gave up clearing the whole game...) -Completing Mansion then starting it again on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first person horror shooter illustrated by Edward Gorey that I didn't know I needed in my life.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to like this game, I really do, but the lack of a sprint-jump function means you can't make an integral leap in the very first level in order to complete a side objective. Now, side stuff is disabled on the lowest difficulty, meaning you can technically progress without finding all the collectibles but the lowest difficulty is far too easy to be enjoyable. Since the game is fairly obscure there are next to no "let's play" videos on the web, and nearly all of them skip the side stuff,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great aesthetic, meh level design and average shooting mechanics. It's got a nugget of a great game somewhere in there but it's just ok right now. 6/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game with great style (which is inconsistent in its goals), acceptable substance, but unacceptably buggy gameplay, which is why I refunded it (because numerous times PER LEVEL on the first level, I was getting stuck in level geometry and either having to hope an enemy knocked me back out of it, or restart the level...because no "return to checkpoint" button exists). That's the TL;DR for why this is a game that should be considered in early access, but isn't. Read below for more.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the slickest nicest indie fps games I've played since DUSK, great art design combined with fun levels a simple but fun story and world, good game play and an grand ending that really feels earned. It is an easy recommendation from me. And the way I started the game a little unsure of the rhythm of combat and the progression to being able to beat some levels with just the sword was fantastic. I felt like a monster hunter by the end and would love to revisit this game and world in more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →KINGDOM of the DEAD is nice. Sadly, that’s all there is to say about it. Putting the neat “ink & paper” art style and unique synth OST aside, what’s left is a way too simplistic love letter to mid ‘90s FPS games that just doesn’t manage to impress in any way. Fun, but it’s the one evening kind of fun. Cubed3 Rating: 5/10 [url=http://www.cubed3.com/review/6614/1/kingdom-of-the-dead-pc.html]Read Full Review Here
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Kingdom of the Dead" is pitched as an old-school boomer shooter... okay. Well, we already have DooM and Quake, so a "me too" made several decades later is a questionable business model. Especially one that doesn't do anything that the original FPS games don't do better despite being so much older. This is a kind of supernatural shooter with one major gimmick... the game assets are textured to look like the scribbling of a 14 year old art student. Okay then. Hand drawn artwork styles can…
