Th' grind it has goin' fer it, hidden under th' cute, colorful graphics, fore momentum and th' promise o' a next sunken ship be just th' worst scourge o' th' seven seas. Everyone remembers Sid Meier’s Pirates, right? Yeah, this isn’t it. It may draw some similarities, but this is a much more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: A good and solid game. Very similar to Windward but with WAY more polish. Performance & Bugs: Runs perfectly fine on max setting with the following specs: Acer Nitro AN515-57 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11800H NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti 16147 MB RAM Haven't found any bugs either. Graphics & Sound: It's beautiful but not mindblowing. If the things you see in the trailers and screenshots catch your interest, then you'll be happy with what you get. The music is ok, but not as good as the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Booted up the game for the first time and got greeted with a message that reads "smart pirates use a controller." I saw the reviews saying this game had poor mouse support. But in fact the game has zero mouse support. I guess smart pirates use a controller, but equally, smart devs release PC games with mouse and keyboard support.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to enjoy this game, as it was recommended based on my play of Windward. Adding story and enhanced combat to that game's exploration and trading sounded fun! Unfortunately after 5+ hours, I stopped hoping the fun would arrived and gave up in frustration. Other's have pointed out that the game is a repetitive grind, but you might be thinking, "I don't mind a grind, I just like sailing around and doing pirate things!" Well, sorry about that, there are just too many issues with…

To this date, we have neither. I shouldnt have got this game and i do not intend to buy anything from this dev anytime either. And neither should you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been gaming for over 30 years, started on the SNES in my early teens, and never stopped. i've seen games change alot, and the gaming industry too. Recently, there's been a trend that kinda burnt me out, and for a lack of better description I'll call it "focus-stealing games". I mean by that all those games that want you to play them, and them only. You know, the ones that reward you with some shennanigans if you complete some daily challenge, and some more for a weekly challenge. The ones…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Eh ... this game actually started out as a very enjoyable experience for me, but began dragging full-anchor by mid-to-late-game progression, and I just stopped. Can't quite muster the desire to actually finish it at this point. --- To bring up a point addressed in many other reviews: as of this review, keyboard controls can be remapped, and mouse controls are (almost) fully usable except maybe for a couple menu things. I had a lot of special abilities mapped to mouse buttons. --- At the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this got a NO review..... It really should be Maybe. The game itself is not bad at all... There are many things I like about it. The issue is the interface. Even with the so-called mouse support update... it does not support mouse operation fully on the UI. Point Blank - this game feels like a port and not something that was natively made for the PC. There is no way to skip the intro movies - so you have to watch them every time you start up and you get the bonus of seeing the, " Cunning…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They fell short on the keyboard and mouse support . If you loath using a controller do not buy this game. Only reason i gave it a no is lack of mouse use.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The combat is basic but solid. The game looks great and sounds great but has some major flaws that stop me having fun. After a few hours there is a massive pay wall with the game forcing you to buy a merchant ship and a large stock of goods. I'm a pirate can I buy a better fighting ship or use the item system to upgrade my hold to be big enough for the rescources? No you must by the rubbish over priced merchant ship. Okay I'll go do some side quest. I'll get this normal difficulty mission.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It has nice graphics. And the flag is interacting correctly with the wind. But it's bland. And somewhat broken or unfinished. If you're okay with that it's a thumbs up. But would I recommend? No. (I'll go play that pirate game from the late 80's that had a pretty good remake in the early 2000's now. Less voodoo, but more digging, dancing and dividing plunder. Apparently Baron Raymundo has information regarding your lost sister.) Edit: Totally worth it at 90% discount.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another Team17 flop where they abandoned it after release. Poor mouse controls, boring sailing, boring combat.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is fun, chill, takes your mind off of things. But some mechanics are bad. Battles are repetetive grinds. Menu mechanics are not great. Missions selection mechanics are horrible (every mission you accept you have long unskippable cutscenes that are often reused). Clearly geared towards a younger crowd. Early teens, not an avid gamer, want a chill relaxed game? This might be for you. Otherwise skip it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since it's a pirate game, I'm not afraid to admit I played it as a pirate before buying it. Instead of writing a lengthy review, here's a small tip. Go to the install folder and into \KOS\Content\Movies. Make 3 new text file documents - Call them, respectively: Intro_Story, Logos_Animation_Intro, Logos_Animation_Intro_New. Delete the video files. Rename the .txt files into .mp4 and enjoy not having splash screens anymore. A little second tip: If you press F2 on a video file, you can do…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →update (05/2023): so after more than a year and (at least) some updates i got it in sale and tested it again. i am speechless, ok there is mouse and keyboard and canon line of sight and other smal qol changes, but besides that the game still feels the same clunky way with keyboard than before. the map scroll is still a disaster, i never seen a game map where you had to scroll hundred times to zoom one cm (do you realy play or test your own game?). there might be monsters now but i don't even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had read all the mixed reviews, set sail with low expectations, and those expectations were met. King of C+ There's plenty of strengths here. It looks and sounds great, controls are solid, narrative is concise, and there's little optional side features to challenge yourself with if you want. If you just want to cruise the seas and do some trading, this is serviceable. High points: there's no sense of urgency or ship morale to micromanage, the escort missions are fair (no scripted ambushes),…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It gets pretty boring after some time. (I have offline hours btw.) and the character design is horrible.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is very well put together save for an annoying tendency for ships to randomly spawn in your path near harbors.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I first got the game I struggled with the tutorial a bit and almost regretted my purchase, but once you get past that the real fun begins - I've done two playthroughs now so feel qualified to say that it genuinely is a fun game BUT it's more of a skill based one and so while it could be easier, earning the skills and making sharp turns with sails almost feels MORE rewarding as you start getting the hang of it. Combat is the not easiest at the beginning when you lack a decent sized ship…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hello, how are you, I am under the water. I wanted to buy Sea of Thieves, but I am a moron, so I accidentally bought this instead. I tried it and it looks trash. I now bought the correct game. 1 Star, do not recommend.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oof this so slow and boring. and the story is very annoyingly delivered, forcing you to play the most uninsteresting missions for the first hour.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth it imo. After playing it a couple of hours I can say that the gameplay itself it's pretty ripetitive, mainly for the unbalanced gameplay that forces you to hit-and-run when facing basically every enemy, since the health of every type of ship (even the galleon, which SHOULD be the tankiest among them) is very low; the story is pretty meh, not very interesting nor something never seen before and the soundtrack is pretty good but gets repetitive very fast since it's formed by only one…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're looking for something to scratch that Sid Meier's itch...keep looking, this ain't it. Combat: Too frustrating to be fun. Even once you get used to the controls all of the ship types handle like garbage and even lower level enemies, if you able to encounter one after you level up since enemies level with you, are able to destroy you faster than you can hope to destroy them. Your only options end up being snaking away from them taking the occasional shot or circling them and whittling…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I fell victim to the "well maybe it'll get less grindy" mentality. After the 2 hour refund window passed I realized that wasn't the case. Game had so much potential to be the next Sid Meiers Pirates, but unfortunately I found myself easily defeating any enemies and engaging in a dull and repetitive trading network.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not sure why King of Seas gets mixed reviews. No it’s not a top-tier game but it’s way more fun than people give it credit for. If you liked Sid Meier’s Pirates!, this is quite similar to it... Exploring, leveling up, and finding loot is super satisfying. There’s a lot more depth than the tutorial shows... different ship classes, cannon types, skills, and even fishing and trading that actually matter. my only complain is we cannot max out skill trees xD i learnt it the hard way xD i…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth the money, far more content in cheaper titles. The "roadmap" is bullcrap. Release the game when done. Encountered bugs and just tedious gameplay. Promised things in updates not showing up.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short and sweet. Combat is fun. Finding legendary items is exciting. The story is silly (on purpose), and too short. Cool looking skins/upgrades and fun abilities. Ships are too cheap and easy to buy, so its all about the upgrades you find. Had me hooked for 33 hours (4.4M bounty score). A little on the easy side if you know how to take advantage of AI with special abilities but I haven't tried hard difficulties. Veterans of Sid Meier's Pirates will like it, but its not as hilarious. No real…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →games balance is so poor that it removes any chance of fun from combat. example: even with damage upgrades and being over levelled to my enemy it took roughly 10 of my shots to do equal damage to the enemies 1.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →finished the game after 30+ hours. it was fun at the start . for its cost , 20ish hours of fun isn't bad. i stuck through the last couple of hours just to see the story end. i'm kind of on the fence but going for thumbs up just for the initial fun. if you are looking for a fun , arcade(ish) game this is for you. if you want good scaling AI , complex trade system , enemy pathing , pirate strategy game .. you wont find it here.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I probably should have heeded the reviews that said to avoid King of Seas if you loved and sunk a lot of time into Sid Meier's Pirates! This game feels a bit too weak and boring as it, and I've barely reached the two hour mark. The world its not all that intriguing, combat is clunky and annoying, and what made Pirates! fun was the variety of minigames and characters that helped make the Caribbean feel alive. King of Seas has none of that, and what it has is not enough to keep me engaged with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Set in a lame water world of random samey looking small islands. Doing anything but the main quest, with its constant cutscenes, is difficult since there is no proper map that shows ports or places of interest. You can't go buying and selling since you don't know where anything is even if you've already been there. The map just stays blank except for showing main quest related places. Also, gets annoying to constantly be tempted into picking up the tons of random loot in the water. Even more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →meant to buy sea of thieves and now i have king of seas. I call this an upgrade tbh
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bland bland bland. Really lifeless cutscenes with no voice acting, boring plot, terrible gameplay mechanics that are really poorly explained, combat is repetitive and dull, and trading mechanics are so utterly lifeless. 3/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To put it simply, I was looking for a micro version of Sea of Thieves that concentrates on just ship combat with a almost top down view on the world. This game would perfectly fill that bubble if it weren't for an experience breaking bug in the game that prevents save files to be stored and loaded. I played about an hour and a half's worth with one full restart thinking that it was a one time fluke, but I lost that time too with the save file nowhere to be found. Due to this, I can't really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has possibly the worst "mouse support" I have seen in the last 10 years. No rebindable keys, and you can't fire the cannons using the mouse buttons at all, having to use the cursor keys instead meaning you can't actually use the mouse in combat. To top it all off the very first quest bugged. You destroy a navy ship, then after the battle it still tells me to destroy it, and I cannot even move my ship. Pressing the Esc key to go to the menu locks you there, and you cannot press Esc…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is actually broken. I did the first quest, sank the ship, the mission didn't go away. Then i opened some menu, unable to close it. Had to exit the game. After restarting, no save, had to start over. Looks promising, but needs fixing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still cant use the mouse to play.. that suuuuuucks..
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game - it's cartoon pirates, after all. But there's some huge flaws that killed it for me. Firstly, the save system requires you to find a friendly port and dock there. Seems easy enough, except the ports don't show up on your map. It seems like the thing that a captain would note on their charts, but instead you have to sail around until you find one. Which means that if life makes you need to stop playing, you can't until you find one. Add to that that if there…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a close run thing whether to recommend this game or not. But after completing it in just 12 hours, I don't think I can. The game mechanics are very similar to another game called Windward. Personally, I think Windward did it better. Graphics are nice in this game and very colourful at times. The sound is fine. Story wise it's OK and I was curious as to how it would end. The problem is, that is all this game is. The replayability is pretty much non existent. No new game plus (just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spent less than 3$, worth more than 3$.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its fun for about 5-6 hours before you realise its just more of the same as you progress. For a few bucks, sure, why not. Just don't go in expecting a sweeping nautical adventure.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only get on sale. This game is clearly inspired by Sid Meier's Pirates, but doesn't hit the same highs that game does. My first few minutes were quite promising. I engaged in a lengthy ship fight, learning the controls and applying past experience. It still took me a few minutes to kill just one ship, and this was the tutorial! My first fight against two ships was accidental as I aggro'd a second ship without meaning to, and I sank to those two ships. Unfortunately this fun difficulty quickly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Going into this I was expecting a trading game where you get richer over time and buy bigger and better ships and continue this loop until you finish the story, what I was NOT expecting is everything this game offered, it had Loot, loot rarity, abilities, different ships with unique designs, boss fights, talent tree and an amazing immersive atmosphere. That last point in particular was a very strong point in this, having headphones or surround sound will do this justice, the sound design was…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i enjoyed it, if you liked windward this is a little move of that with more story and the combat can be a little wonky i guess crits pop off a lot more than i notice cuz one shot it not bad and the next takes half your life.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me preface this by saying- I love the game, I want it to expand. However, for the time being it gets a negative review because it plays like a demo. Advertising a game with an update road-map is understandable, but to me I'd rather a full release game with planned content to add, not a somewhat finished game, with the rest of the content planned out. Game is quite slow at first, picks up very quickly, then gets really hard really quick. I got quite far in and the jump from level 35 to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Plays a lot like Sid Meier's Pirates, but with a lot more customization of ships. I only wish there were more types of ships, and a less predictable map. Still, hours of fun to be had, definitely worth it as long as you know what you're getting into.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the game, i wanted a more casual age of sail/pirate themed game that i could sit back and play solo with my controller and this delivers just that. I don't know about the keyboard and mouse support that got added but controls with the controller are good and responsive, the graphics are very easy on the eye and the game is fun to play. Quite a nice game to unwind with.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The controls are terrible. No mouse support. You have to release a button to fire cannons... that is so unnatural. When you ship is stopped you have to deploy full sail and wait like 2 seconds for it to start moving. Why cant i start moving with quarter or half sails? Nobody knows... Also you can't repair in battle... which also... why not? nobody knows..
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hate the controls. Cant change them. Its always a bad start when the loading screen tells you that "cunning pirates use controllers"

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one's a giant no from me. The graphics are okay, the menus are okay and everything's clear. Good gamma adjustment options and sufficient graphics options. 5 difficulty settings, which is very nice to see, so you can tune the difficulty enough that you'll probably be happy with one of the 5 settings. Looking good so far. Not too keen on the character drawings, and in one scene someone's holding a sword backwards, but whatever. Gameplay is more important, right? Well, yeah, if you can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[EDIT: After the Monsters update... the devs still don't have the slightest clue how sails work...] This may sound petty, but as long as the sailing mechanics (as in, the position of sails relative to the wind) are completely wrong, I can't recommend this game. Devs, please just look at this example https://safe-skipper.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/36.1_Points-of-sail-1.jpg
