60 of 175 · most liked firstDO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!! What an actual disappointment and waste of time 30 hours of my life has been. I worked so hard, I did a campaign mode and started off with contracts, opened my headquarters, and two different stores. It took me way too long to realize there are too many game breaking bugs that you cannot play even if you tried your hardest. I have many staff, upgrades in both stores. One store sells PC's and Phones and the other sells woman's tops and dresses. Every time I am at the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A few years ago, my hometown city of Dunedin, New Zealand lost it's K-Mart with the impact of covid's lock-downs. It was a hole. A true cesspool. They never treated their staff with dignity or respect, and only sold the worst possible quality of trash from third world factories. I have played King of Retail and I understand the appeal now. I have not once let my staff members have a break, damn them. I have an entire room, 100 x 2 metres of pure magenta, dedicated to my staff of 40 men and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Untrustworthy Developers: The game is a Buggy mess, Yet Sequel Planned The developers announcing they will release a sequel, namely King of Retail 2, while the first game is still broken since release day, is absolutely disgusting. I have absolutely no trust or support for these developers.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great idea, terrible controls. I gave it about an hour, hoping it would get better, but it never did. Ended up refunding it, which is a shame because the concept had a lot of potential.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve been advocating for more shop/retail games for years, so when I came across this one, I was beyond excited. And honestly, it’s a fantastic game. The management mechanics are well thought out, and it’s clear the developer put a lot of time and passion into creating the experience. However, there’s one major issue that’s hard to overlook: the lack of accountability from the dev. The game does have some bugs, and one in particular, where your workers get stuck outside on rocks, can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i wanted to give this a really great review i did honestly .... so the game its self the idea and premise is really good start your little shop and make money make it bigger decide what your stocking manage your staff grow to have multiple stores and have a chain of shops awesome right ? yeah it is ...when it works this game is covered in more bugs than a turd in Africa ! staff don't work efficiently not because the scripting but because poor ai . there is so many bugs in this is it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →run out of money? cant fix your games bugs? just take the buggy mess out of early access and start making a sequel instead. ez i understand burnout. but when i get burnt out, i take a break and then actually come back to the thing i promised to finish.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is dead. No updates coming and Dev is making King of Retail 2. Dosen´t even fix his first Game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Way too complex not due its systems. But because the tutorials uses the wrong terms compared to what the actual menus say. So it makes you kind of guess your way through. Not really enjoyable
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game makes a good first impression due to its complexity. You can manage a whole company of stores here and you don't have to do cashier minigames like in so many store simulators. It's more about a big picture business. Unfortunately it took almost 20 hours to realize there are too many bugs and issues. Customers will ask for help and want products suggested - this has never worked for me in all my playtime. The sound volume resets every time you restart the game. Sometimes you cannot…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game, and early on it showed promise. But it's very monotonous and tedious. More, it gets no updates of any kind. It's been almost six months since release but other than a few week 2 patches, nothing. It already feels like this game is dead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to like this game, but it's so buggy and clunky. It feels so unfinished I thought it was an early access game, just to realize there is a sequel? Is the sequel more of this? Cause I wouldn't buy this game again. Love the idea, but it needed more work before a whole sequel came out. That's crazy

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is abandoned and in its current quality feels like early access at best.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game feels unfinished and abandoned by the developers in favor of its sequel
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just don't. You'll look at this years later and say to yourself, why did I work for free?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →King of Retail is a trailblazer of a game in the business simulation genre. It is simple, yet complex. Detailed, yet disheveled. It is beauty, it is grace. Whoever created this game, I hope they know they did a really good job. Big Ambitions is a similar comparable that came after, but this has a less polished feel like Trader Simulators, Drug Dealer Simulators, etc... But of that latter group, this game is by far the most polished and best organized. 9.75 / 10 Excellent Game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why finish a game when you could just start another. Yeah the dev made this brought it out of early access and now making a second one. Very cool!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So promising, yet so... abandoned. As a former retail manager, this definitely satisfied an itch for me to create a non-toxic workplace for myself. Interesting and in-depth analytics, a competent inventory system, some decent thought into end-game mechanics.... Unfortunately, the content ends up falling short down the road as there just isn't anything new being added to this fairly barebones game. You can only manage 3 types of retail industry stores- clothes, electronics, and food. There is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun at first, but becomes repetitive soon. Graphics look a bit old school. Lot's of bugs. And according to his Discord server, the Developer doesn't care about this game anymore. He's already working on the next game instead of fixing this one first. One year ago, I would've rated this game top, but now I just can say "Don't buy it!"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Idea of the game is very good, But the DEVS left the game way to soon. there was loads og potential in this game and they left it to die, and alot of players did to, but if you whant a store sim, BIG AMBITIONS is way better.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've enjoyed playing this game for 952 hours, & will continue for many more! Yes, there were a few minor issues that were not addressed, however, it DOES NOT prevent you from experiencing great & enjoyable game play in a decent retail simulation! As a former retail manager, I feel like I've stepped back in time with this game. Merchandising stores, achieving profitability, hiring/firing employees & generally bossing people around. :) The game is well worth the original price I paid & then some!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Went broke in 3 days. 11/10 for realism
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →abandoned game, no updates
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game but **** day mechanic absolutely ruins it. Being able to only visit 1 of your stores in a day makes absolutely no sense. I should be able to leave a store, go to my headquarters and go to another store to check on it all in the same day. I mean come on how am I supposed to effectively manage 5 stores when I can only visit one of them a day? I do not understand how some people can enjoy this mechanic. I am hoping that the developer does not implement such a stupid mechanic in KOR2.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly Supermarket Simulator is already a better game than this. - While I still want to play this game and give it a chance dev decided to make a sequel instead of making the game smooth and actually playable. Sorry I will not buy King of retail 2.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DEVELOPER ABANDONED UNFINISHED GAME! A game that is at first glance fun but is missing many features that feel rather necessary for a game like this: Customers do not actually follow the behavior that the tutorial courses teach you so "spamming every article" is your best bet to make money, which is quite the let-down. Organizing workers with limited features is a headache. Cashiers are stuck at registers, do not work, and you cannot replace them for the rest of the day. The moment you get to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game could use more content and bug fixes still. Dev decided it was a better idea to go silent for half a year after promising updates then announced on discord they are making a 2nd game. Hoping the new game is better then this one but can't say this game didn't sour me. I wouldn't buy into early access again knowing the first product was delivered like a cake without the icing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The developer abandoned it and is working on the second...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So buggy but at least the dev is making a second one instead of fixing this one
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →abandonware, bought it as early access, when the dev was still updating the game. Then something happened, and he decided that naah, lets the next update be the final version, but it doesn't make early access to a final product by just changing the version number and removing the early access -tag. This game has huge potential and as early access it was great, but as a final version without any updates this isn't a good game, at least at full price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this game, it has flaws but the overall gameplay loop is satisfying enough. I would have played it for longer, but I encountered a game breaking bug where my wares would reduce cost to 0, over and over, randomly. Since the dev is working on the sequal, I expect this to remain unfixed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is dead. No updates coming and Dev is making King of Retail 2. Dosen´t even fix his first Game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can be fun for a while but it's way too unfinished to be abandoned so quickly for a sequel.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sells trusting customers a game Abandons it Returns announcing a new game, trust me this time guys
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoy the concept of this game but the buggy mess and lack of quality of life system ruins it. In this game, you play a role as a manager of retail stores and you will learn more when you progress from a employees to a head managers. I need to admit that the first 20 hours are fun to play. However, it comes to an end when you become a company and have 1 to 2 concept and a few store. You feel like you are doing the same thing again when opening new store hiring employees, planning the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →King of Retail is an absolute gem for anyone who’s ever been curious about what it takes to run a successful store. I’m thoroughly impressed by the level of detail this game offers, especially when it comes to product placement. It’s not just cosmetic – where you place your items genuinely affects customer behavior, and mastering that system adds a rich layer of strategic depth. What really hooked me is the attention to sales strategy. The game doesn't just throw you into the deep end – it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was bummed out at first when I learned that the dev abandoned the game to work on KoR 2. But if I look at it objectively I support the decision, furthermore it was communicated openly, which I respect. About the game, you can easily bury 100+ hours until you realize that it jumped from like 0.18 to 1.0. If you buy it on sales, you will definitely get your money's worth.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dev abandoned it unfinished and announced a sequel
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Run away game is buggy and will randomly bankrupt you even while making huge profits daily and development stopped this is a very early access type game with all the bugs not a full release game Dev is a scammer.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is janky, the ui is really not great, the music gets super repetitive, the early game campaign mode is grindy and there's still a decent amount of bugs. For some reason, the gameplay was so much fun that I ignored all of the above and enjoyed it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Released bugged and than, abandoned. Don't buy
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad premise for a game, the controls are terrible but you get used to them. Not a lot in the way of stock management or details on sales as much as I would like, plus it would be nice to have more time before or after closing to figure things our but the game forces you back to your office. It's not a terribly hard game once you figure it all out but once you do, that is it, it is a lot of the same a slight expansion from there. Rinse and repeat. People say this game is unfinished and…

unlabelledView post →The game was good for 5 minutes. I bought it under the assumption that the developer will update it regularly after early access ended (at least that's what we were told). Unfortunately, the developer has stopped working on the game. The game has so much potential.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Half baked. Man, this game really could have been something... had they just stuck with it a little longer. Gone are the days where developers polished out games before being released (because they had to be, due to no internet). Today is just... push it out, we'll fix it later. Later never comes for many titles. This one included.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think it's understable to get angry at the developer for "abandoning the game" BUT there might be a good reason for it. You see this game has very very good aspects like you can not only run a shop but an entire company empire and even invest in real estate. But this game has also limits in the technical aspects and there are many quality of life features missing that makes playing it a chore of repeating the same steps over and over because you cannot automate them easily. I guess with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was excited for this game at first but the developer seems to have abandoned this game and started making king of retail 2 without even finishing king of retail 1. If this game is finished then King of Retail 2 is not going to be worth buying because this dev doesn't know how to make a finished game. The game is limited, boring and repetitive. KOR2 looks like more of the same with updated graphics from 2001 to 2010.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Look, The developer is working on another game already, This game is Pretty great in its current state, but it really could have used some updates ill admit. That being said It was a solo indie developer 100%. got to give credit where its due, that being said alot was learned in the process and it is able to be redone, but better. I dont necessarily recommend purchasing the game unless its discounted. but it is quite challenging to a point. there is alot to learn, and i personally…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →don't recommend this game .. it seems the developers abounded it no more updates.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Im not going to lie this game looks terrible. This games looks like its made by an ai. The tutorial if you can even call it that is just a power point presentation. The player's or humans looks terrible like they are made of play dough and why does the customization look terrible the people have the most ridiculous outfits, their body types are not accurate, their expressions are soulless. This game is obviously just a cash grab slop game. Please never by this and dont get tricked by the good…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do I recommend King of Retail?' YES, BUT ONLY ON SALE The game is very difficult to get into for sure. All the tutorials are in a separate menu you can only reach from the main menu, called "business school" You will feel very lost at first, and I would say it takes several hours of a first playthrough to even learn the mechanics of the game, how customers and articles work, how to manage employees, and what to focus on. The first in-game week or so of playing you will barely be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has great depth. I think it's better than supermarket simulator.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had potential. Sells a game Abandons it Announces a new game: trust me, bro
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →early access? lol jk finished, have a sequel
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game during early access, and I had a lot of fun playing it! right before the super bug hit us in 2020, I worked and played this game. it was so much fun! I wrote out a schedule on a note pad for my workers lol both my husband and my co workers thought I was crazy (I worked retail at the time ;) ), and once you figure out the ordering system, man, it is a very immersive game, totally worth the price. I played for just about 78 hours and I think i'm about itching to play some more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Meh its okay bit annoying at times and repetitive
