Need Do No Harm is a little confusing in mechanics, but a solid game that I can’t wait to play more of. Lovecraftian “life sim” type game. Kathy Rain 2: Holy shit, looks absolutely gorgeous.

As a note to other trans players, this game features a minor side character who is a trans woman, and who is referred to with mild period-accurate transphobic language by some of the other side characters in the game. Our lead treats her with respect. When the character was referenced at first I had a moment of "oh, hell, is this going to ruin my day?" and it absolutely did not, so good on the devs for handling a trans character in a period piece so well!

Too much is getting thrown at you right away, key characters are never reintroduced or fleshed out, despite them carrying heavy emotional value for Kathy. But overall, this feels like a game stuck in the past, both in its relatively cheesy, unequal story and in some really painful game design moments. It's a capable game, I guess, but overall I came away unimpressed. The ten hours I spent on it weren't wasted, but I wish I'd spent them on something a little more innovative.

There is a decent recap of the first game but the sequel's story will be much more impactful if you actually remember the plot and characters of the original.
