unlabelledView post →finally manned up and watched "Jungle Fever". a Black professor showed only the 'Samuel Jackson manipulating his mom' scenes, and I couldn't get over that impression, even though a film-savvy Black lady told me it was a false one I'd adopted. Finally watched it. I really should've sooner.

TW////// RE: the autopsy photos in 4 Little Girls, all those crime scene photos in Clockers and the child that lost their foot in one of the Katrina docs.

Thank goodness the Wayans Bros. relegated “Higher Learning,” “Poetic Justice,” and “Jungle Fever” to the film’s tagline!

unlabelledView post →Aside, I was shown Jungle Fever in high school (!) by a well-meaning English instructor who taught a solitary film course. This was a Catholic institution, mind you, so—however comparatively liberal the school’s Jesuit spirit—this teacher was rather risking his neck for kind of a subpar movie.
unlabelledView post →The first movie I noticed how great an actor he is was Jungle Fever.
unlabelledView post →I saw most of “Jungle Fever” a few nights ago. While I’ll withhold my thoughts on the overall film until I’ve finished it, Ernest Dickerson’s cinematography is engaging to the eye and appropriately intimate. He also shot the beautiful-looking “Malcolm X”. Kudos to Dickerson for his work on both.
unlabelledView post →Happy birthday to Spike!!! I think any list of his best films should include Jungle Fever. That’s just me this. It’s great storytelling and has a unique perspective. Plus it has one of the best soundtracks of any film.

unlabelledView post →Favorite SLJ movie is Pulp Fiction and favorite SLJ performance is Gator in Jungle Fever. Not sure if this would be considered lesser known, I recommend The Great White Hype, which is one of his comedic performances.

unlabelledView post →"Spike Lee is telling me the story of how he had to convince Frank Sinatra to let him use his music for Lee’s 1991 film Jungle Fever. Apparently, Ol’ Blue Eyes was upset about one of the film-maker’s earlier movies, Do the Right Thing."
unlabelledView post →Sam Jackson as Gator in Jungle Fever is another film example of how fucked up the crack epidemic was too!
unlabelledView post →I also saw Halle Berry. Now her acting ability is open to your opinion but to say she plays herself in every movie? The lady who was in Dorothy Dandridge, BAPS, Gothika, Losing Isaiah, Mission Impossible, Jungle Fever, Boomerang, The Rich Man’s Wife, Monster’s Ball, Why Do Fools Fall In Love, etc?
unlabelledView post →What's a movie where the B plot stands out above the A plot? For me it's Jungle Fever, an interesting movie about interracial dating and an excellent movie about drug addiction starring Samuel L. Jackson and Halle Berry doing some of the best acting of their illustrious careers.

NC-17 replaced the X rating, Crying Game, Priscilla, Jungle Fever, Wong Foo and Raise The Red Lantern came out, and we read the following new text. It really did seem then like our species was ready to accept the full spectrum of humanity. 🎬

unlabelledView post →JUNGLE FEVER - This is a terrific film from Spike Lee with brilliant performances from everyone - Halle Berry is in it in what I think was her first role and she's nuts. My God though, what a tonal shift in the second half. It starts out much lighter and amusing but then it gets bleak. (Post 2/4)
