What people are saying
Mixed but leaning negative due to dead multiplayer and high price.
Many players praise the game's quality and fun, calling it a masterpiece from Stress Level Zero. However, the overwhelming consensus is that the multiplayer is dead, with no players online, making the game unplayable for most. [3][7][10][12][13][16][21][35]
Critics frequently cite the lack of single-player content, no bots, and developer abandonment. Some allege that the developers promised updates and a story mode but never delivered, leading to frustration and calls for a price drop or free release. [15][18][20][25][26][33][36]

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this is a very good game I can't recommend it due to the fact that it's multiplayer, and there's literally no player base what so ever.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead game, zero development or online player count, DO NOT BUY
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ Great fun + One of the best pvp games - Not enough player base - Pricey for the age/lack of players. 2/5 This is a really fantastic early entry to VR, and one of the best PVP games on VR to date. But I can't recommend getting this since playing a multiplayer game that no one is playing. Isn't that fun, maybe if they permanently reduced the price to $5 people would play it more?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game which should be reduced to like the $9.99 level so as to permanently build the community. I give the game a thumbs up for quality and fun. I give the publisher a thumbs down for being greedy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →nobody in the world is playing this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You see, it's good... but it's dead.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was a crowdfunding backer and followed the development from when it first announced but was never actually able to play the game until about a year after its release. The game was dead at that point with rarely any players online and then maybe by a year later, it was just completely dead. The developers promised a lot including its future development and just never delivered on those promises. The updates finally stopped 2 years after its release with the final "single player" mode which is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. But it is pretty much unplayable with the amount of people that are online. I would love to see this game grow a bigger fan base. So I have a few ideas. First off, with the release of bonelab, SL0 should make this game free for a limited time. Since Bonelab will be on the quest, stress level 0 will make huge amounts of money from it because most vr users play on quest. This is why they could afford to make hover junkers free. Because who is going to pay for a game that is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2/10 Game says single player, but there is no single player option that I can find. Not even bots. Multiplayer is empty. Couldn't find a single match. Refunded.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Initially I thought this would be a must have VR title. It can be wildly entertaining but those days are long gone as no one is playing this game anymore. Without a single player mode or something that brings everyone back to this game, I can't recommend it. Go grab Rec Room instead, it's free and just as fun
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks and feels good, but I cannot recommend a mostly online game with no online playerbase. It´s a shame, maybe the game will be worth it if they ever port it to ps vr to increase the playerbase to at least a playable level. EDIT: Adding bots will also go along way to make this game worth your money
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →hover junkers is amazing, but the game is sadly dead. MAKE THE GAME FREE!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →bought it at release 2016, played few times, then forgotten. now 2021, no people in lobby. shame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game might have been good when it first came out and there weren't a ton of VR titles to choose from...but honestly now a days it just feels clunky and lame. Multiplayer is dead and you can do much better with your time and money. Don't bother.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From what I was able to play, Hover Junkers has a lot of promise. I tested out the guns in the range, flew around a ship for awhile, and messed with adding armor to the ship, but I couldn’t do anything else because nobody ever plays this game. The 24 hour peak according to steam charts is 4 players. Until a single player mode is released I wouldn’t suggest getting this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was the reason I bought the vive, but the developers have sadly left it for dead. This game needed consistant updates to keep the small online community the game had at launch alive. This game has a steep price for an online only game and that is its main drawback. Its praticaly an early access game because they still havent released the story mode they promised. I hope to be able to change this review in the future but at the moment the only way you could justify buying this game is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →no one online, boring singleplayer mode, hardly any updates from devs wait for a big sale and 1.3 update
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first game stress level abandoned and why I didnt pay for Boneworks. Stress level Owed me Bonworks, this game they lied about a bunch of times, said it was still in developement said a Single player mode was coming they were lying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool game concept but there is only multiplayer as an option and this game is too old and no one else plays it. I'd say it's interesting for $5 or under for the tutorial and shooting range. But don't expect more then that as no one plays this game anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sure this game was an awesome first foray in to VR for a lot of people when it first came out 5 years ago, but it's pretty dead now. No one online, you can do endless bot mode, stationary on a platform by yourself or the strange and kinda funny "Junk Road" mode which is basically a spoof of Organ Trail on a Hover Junker, but nothing in this game really held my attention in 2021. I won't refund tho, I want to support Stress Level Zero.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tried this game on the free weekend deal and there are just no players online (game is dead)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a wonderful game. Pros: - The gameplay of building defenses for your flying boat is unique - The guns are all creative and individual in how they handle - It has a fun style to it Cons: - Currently the game in multiplayer only.... and playerbase is basically dead - A few weapons are game-breakingly accurate, which makes the multiplayer against experienced players a curbstomp Maybe pros: - the devs have promised a Single-player mode in "6-8 weeks" for the better part of a year.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy. Art is beautiful and concept is good, but dev abondonment of multiplayer and pricing greed does not make up for that. There is almost no playerbase, regular dev communication, or plans to improve multiplayer despite the potential there. Personally I intend to not purchase any future titles by Stress Level Zero because of how this game's community was handled despite the premium pricetag. In fact, they should send everyone who purchased Hover Junkers their next title for free,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No updates, no bots, no players, should be pulled by Steam from the store.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the most painful review for me. This was the first game I tried during the Steam VR Developer Showcase in 2016. I thought it was wonderful in every way. From concept to execution, however the game was clearly meant for PVP and there is no playerbase. It has a singleplayer mode but doesn't have the same oomf as the multiplayer once did.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot recommend a mostly online game with no online playerbase. It´s a shame, maybe the game will be worth it if they ever port it to ps vr to increase the playerbase to at least a playable level. EDIT: Adding bots will also go along way to make this game worth your money
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since developing single player obvious means bot AI, I really really hope they port this back to the multiplayer and that's what this update was alluding to. It would be AWESOME to be able to comp stomp bots with your friends in matches, or even better yet a ladder tournament, for example.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead game, but giving positive rating because you can tell its a high quality game, from a really good developer. I will continue to support Stress Level Zero because all their games so far have been high quality goodness.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun game but unfortunately you shouldn't buy it for one simple reason... Nobody plays it. As of writing this there are currently zero people playing this game. It's a waste of money buying this game since there wouldn't be anyone to play it with.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game maybe fun but it's currently a multiplayer only game with no players so there's literally nothing to do except shoot targets in the tutorial, not worth 35 bucks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a WASTE of money do not buy!!! There is never anyone playing. The truth is it seems like it is a great game on the very rare ocassion I have found someone to play with but I can never find anyone to play with. I'm realy anoyed I spent good money on this and believed all the hype in the trailers etc. Steam you should stop selling this game you are just tricking people into buying a game that is unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No story and No one is online.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →She be hover on my junker 'till i boneworks
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fugeddabout it, no one else is playing, and there are no bots
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is dead :( I never got to experience flipping someone off in an online VR game :(
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Please save yourself from extra work. This game has been abandoned by players. Over 3 days, not a single lobby. Too bad as it looked pretty nice. I'll be asking for a refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible game abandoned by terrible developers. They continue to make sloppy cash grabbers.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nobody plays this anymore, been looking for servers for a couple days and found 1 person who quit as soon as I joined. The only thing to do in single player is shoot drones. I guess it was one of the earliest VR games but now it doesn't have much to offer compared to other VR games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nobody plays this game its a waste of money
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game needs to go on sale to stimulate the community. That is the fault of the developers to keeping the price inflated and allowing the game to die. Cannot recommned this game. I only got 30 min of play in when i first purchased it and that was it. Only VR game i regret buying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →JUST MAKE THE GAME FREE DAMMIT
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is great, gameplay is fantasic but what is the point of making an online game if no one plays it. It is almost impossible to get into a game with other people.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nobody plays multiplayer and there is no single-player. That means you cannot play. A total and utter waste of money. Nobody plays because there's massive balance problems.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game had the potential to be a brand name but if you buy it you end up just HOPING someone joins to be able to put a game together. Too expensive to just sit in a lobby, just look at the rest of the reviews
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No one plays this game, and there is nothing to do online alone. I payed full price, and I have only played it a few times. They need to develop a single player and lower the price so we can get some use out of it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was OKAY when players were around to play with and other MP options were scarce. Today the game is trash. No one plays it and the dev team has completely abandoned the game. You will NOT get single player as there is no money to be made there for the dev team. They know they stand no chance of selling it as an add-on so its a mute point. DO NOT BUY.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BEFORE BUYING MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRIENDS TO PLAY WITH. GAME IS DEAD SO THERE WILL BE 0 LOBBIES TO JOIN!!! Hover Junkers is remains a masterpiece from Stress Level Zero. Hopping on with friends was probably the most fun I've had with multiplayer VR in a while.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →absolutely neglected game. no effort into fostering a community by devs. will never purchase a stress level zero game ever again
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game would probably be fun if anyone were ever playing it. The mechanics are fun, but not very intuitive, and it's really tough to play if nobody else is ever on. I can't find a single-player mode, so.... I guess that's the end of my interest in this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i want a refund. nobody plays this ♥♥♥♥, the least you could do is add AI
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I originally bought this game due to the devs' promise to bring in a single player mode. When I did play it, the multiplayer was fun but I still wanted the story. Now, no one plays it because the developers abandoned this game after fake promises and false hope. I will never buy another game from stress level zero because they lack integrity, and blatantly lie to their players who buy their atrociously underdeveloped game. It is very obvious to me now that this game was a cash-grab to fund…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is super dead no one plays :/
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Promised single player never came. Devs abandoned it. There is no multiplayer base anymore. We spent 2 and a half hours trying to find another soul to play the game with us and learned that this was not going to happen. If you want to float around the desert by yourself doing nothing, In VR! then buy it but you will not be buying a "game." Total waste of money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NO BOTS? I WOULD BE IRATE IF I SPENT 20 BUCKS.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead game, and the Devs will never come back to it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →nobody plays the multiplayer the mechanics are good but you cant find a game so there is no point wasting $15 on this
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man that's tough. In principle, we have a great game at our hands. But in reality, the multiplayer is devoid of players, and the single player is... well... let's say not worth the price of admission: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtXVTXw1b3A&feature=youtu.be So, right now, I cannot recommend it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is bad, there is nobody who plays. After 1 match I got bored! this game NEVER buy unless u r weird... RIP $15 2017
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Almost no players in game anymore.
