positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I know this game has been getting bad reviews lately, and the critics say that it's like Animal Crossing without the fun parts, that it's boring or slow, but that seems unfair. I mean, we're all here for one thing, right, and that's to relax. This game is suited for those who enjoy a relaxing grind, like Animal Crossing, like Story of Seasons. It may be a little slow sometimes, but that doesn't make it a bad game. And it breaks my heart to see this game getting bad reviews. I enjoyed my time…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game leaves one wanting. It is clearly an Animal Crossing dupe and it isn't following the top rule of borrowing someone else's idea: they didn't improve it or make it their own at all. This game is thin and surfacey. Hokko Life lacks complexity at every turn. This is made worse by the fact that the devs did not bother to explain roughly 50% of the game principles/mechanics to the player. I believe it is this lack of transparency that makes Hokko Life appear to be more than it truly is,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s a shame that this game got so much hate when it was first released. Here in 2024, the devs fixed a lot of bugs and the game received awesome updates. Get it if you like Animal Crossing or relaxing decorate games in general. The game really opened up for me after I built the first house. It is only $3.99 when it is on sale. This game could be a hit if they could polish the character models and keep updating it with new areas and content. Personally, the models could be better but doesn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was hoping to prove the negative reviews wrong but it's veryyyy slow and basically no gameplay, I ended up just sleeping through days to skip until there was something to do. Slow gameplay can be done well, e.g. Animal Crossing, Tom Nook or another NPC gives you a new task every day etc to keep you on your toes, but in this game if you ask the 'tom nook' character what to do, they just tell you to ask the towns people (all 3 of them) even when none of them have nothing for you to do. The fact…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've seen a lot of negative reviews about this game, mostly from people who only played for a few minutes to a few hours before quitting. I did the same when it first came out of early access, so I understand. But if you made a quick judgment, please give it another try. The game has a surprising amount of content. The pacing can be strange because you unlock things based on how much you play. If you only like to fish, it will be harder to progress. You need to spend time on the merit tree and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →🏝️ Hokko Life Review 🌼 I saw Hokko Life come up in my recommended games and decided to try it because it gave me Animal Crossing vibes. I have to admit, I love it and am completely hooked! The game has a cozy and charming atmosphere, and I love that I can play at my own pace. There’s so much to do and explore, with different areas to discover and enjoy. At first, the game felt a bit slow for me, but once I got the hang of it and started unlocking features, there was so much to enjoy! I’m a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Realised I hadn't done an #introduction here yet! I'm Robert a #gamedev of 15+ years now. Worked at some indie, and some not-so-indie studios. My first "solo" game was Hokko Life released 2022. Previously I did Art Direction, VFX, Lighting & Techy stuff on titles like Fable, Gauntlet, Killzone
unlabelledView post →was cool till they abandon it. it feels only half done, alot lacking for end game players no point to continue playing hahahaha they made a game that you'd play for about 8 hrs just to sell copies and keep them sold
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My Playtime: 89.8h (100% achievement, played until 17th winter) Grindy Achievement(s): Yes (2+ achievements). Optional Achievement(s): Yes (~22 achievements). Difficult Achievement(s): No. Intro Hokko Life is a life sim where you have to finish villager's requests, gather resources, and decorate the whole island. It is targeted at artistic people who like to decorate islands and create items, with the possibility to customize almost everything. Pros: - Freedom in creating your furniture and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is full of wasted potential. Furniture customisation is fantastic and in-depth - but that won't save the game from its mediocre gameplay loop. I usually enjoy grinding in farming/cosy games, but Hokko Life felt unrewarding and souless. Everything was a chore. Animations are also slow which doesn't help when doing repetitive actions like watering crops.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Developer asked us to put in our input so here is my honest take. As a 100% completetionist, I strive to get everything done, which is incredibly difficult for this game. The end game farming is introduced EXTREMELY late and there is no benefit to farming other than achievements, and food requests and food requests take forever to spawn in, making it even more grindy. Overall, the beginning was very slow but I found the constant need to want to play more and get everything done. I think this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hokko Life: A Relaxing Escape That Falls Short of Its Competition Hokko Life is a charming attempt to join the ranks of life-sim and farming games, but it struggles to stand out in a genre filled with stronger contenders. While it offers a peaceful, laid-back experience, it lacks the depth and polish needed to compete with its more advanced peers like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing. At its core, Hokko Life is a game about creativity and relaxation. The customization options for designing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hokko Life is the result of chasing the things that make Animal Crossing the success that it is without having the chops to compete. Lifeless, dull characters with designs ranging from ugly to adequate populate a small town full of tedious tasks. Due in part to attempting to provide 'constant' gameplay a la Stardew Valley and eschewing real-time progression like its inspiration it has a lot of things to do; it's just that none of said things are enjoyable and the characters you do them for are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just feels very empty. The villagers have no souls, like dolls moving without purpose as they stare about, like a cheap version of animal crossing. Sorry Devs. Kinda glad I didn't pay full price for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game, but it is so grind-centric that even a SPORE-like asset creator cannot save it. Perks are unlocked through repeating the same task like XP was gained in old generation RPGs, while the resource counts required to craft the custom assets seems to be calculated from an equation more greedy for resources than the US economy, meaning you need to harvest what would be several metric tonnes of cotton to craft one pillow. And after you unlock the perks, all activities…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loaded with bugs and issues and instead of fixing those issues that people have been vocal about the devs decided to give up and release a sequel. Called Hokko Spaces. That in itself warrants a not recommend
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, this game is a mixed bag, leaning more on the positive side. It's very cozy, fun, and keeps you busy but not in a pressuring way, and tbh, I enjoy some parts over animal crossing! However, there is only one BIG issue with the game. THE GRAPHICS. They are absolutely terriblie in my opinion, and this is the only negative I can think of. If you don't care about the townfolks being a little creepy, some textures glitching and a few stiff animations here and there, this might be the best…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i regret buying this game. nothing happens and isn’t unique. just an animal crossing dupe without the fun parts.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like farming games. I really do. I am used to farming games, that make the MC do all the work. Of rebuilding a town. Getting people back. Yk, the usual farming game story. That being said, one would think Hokko Life works. It has all the checkmarks on the boxes. It just didn't. And that's not for some ridiculous story reason - grandpa inherited us a farm, bla bla - no, we ACCIDENTLY stumble accros this run down town. Falling asleep on the train. Getting out at the station. Never meaning to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoy cozy games, and this is a cozy game. But I wouldn't recommend it. Its uneventful and it has similar vibes of animal crossing, but the story is boring and I lost interest in a few hours. I haven't played the game again since and have no desire to do so. There are much better simulation games on the market, with better play. Sorry Devs. It has some cute aspects, but honestly, I would never recommend this game unless it was at a VERY deep discount, or in a game bundle pack with other games…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've tried a lot to really enjoy this game but I just can't... There just feels like it's missing so much. The gameplay is so slow and unrewarding and there's no sense of direction. The game's way too zoomed in but that just shows how small the game world actually is, and how little there is to do. The farming portion of the game is obnoxious, being able to water 1 plant at a time and only 6 plants before you have to refill your watering can. I don't know, maybe I'm just not getting it, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thanks to other reviews I didn't expect much of this game, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. I wouldn't have bought it for full price, but on sale for £3.19, it's well worth a gander. Think of it as a knock-off junior Animal Crossing game, with more creative elements. It's slow to start, and monotonous and repetitive in a way that - for my autistic brain at least - is quite soothing. I think for kids particularly this would be a good start to the life sim genre, especially if they…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the worst sin a game can be, its not bad, its not good, its boring
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So the game uses "they/them" pronouns. I did a search, and the devs claim it's like that to be "inclusive". Wish I had known that before the refund window slipped away.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to like this but it's just bland and doesn't feel very polished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wish they would keep expanding this
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like it, I truly did. This isn't the cozy, Animal Crossing like I was promised. I didn't expect it to be on par with one of Nintendo's best franchises but it just fails to deliver on everything. None of the animals are interesting to talk to beyond 3 sentences, there's little to do after the early game besides grind, the exploration is minimal. The ONLY okay thing is the customization mechanics but they are buggy to work with and the placement boxes are wonky. It's a pretty game,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just do not buy it if you are 8+ years old
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Several things are fairly jankie. Like when the game had me build myself a house, it only allowed me to build it in one place, with a river in front of my house, and then took me into it, and wouldn't let me move when I tried to come out. just locked me in place. had to do a full restart and lost a days worth of time in it. No want or care to try and play anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who loves Animal Crossing, I was ready to give this an honest shot but when you have a casual experience like this and there won't be that much for you to do in a game and there won't be too much action, it has to have captivating dialogues, characters with interesting personalities, and beautiful art and animation. The NPCs are lifeless and that killed the game for me, not to mention the unmemorable art and the animations without any oomph. This is Team17, they can do better.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is to Animal Crossing what Pal World is to Pokemon
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I actually really enjoy Hokko Life. It's a cozy and relaxing game. Yes, we all know it's an AC clone, but it has some differences: some good and some bad. Being able to craft furniture from basically scratch is super neat. Unlocking new areas is exciting, and being able to activate shrines for fast travel is very very useful. Villagers don't seem to have as much personality as in AC, and the UI isn't as friendly. Don't go into this expecting AC and you will be pleasantly surprised. There are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of. 19,99 is redicolous. You don't get anything worth the money. Put some horror music in the backround and make the game a bit darker and you have a wonderful kids horror game, becausee the characters just look scary and are lifeless.. the "quests" are just: Here, grab this, talk to this freaky animal, then go back. Over and over and OVER!!! What else can I say... spent your money on something else...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neutral Feels like a half-baked game tbh. It has it's nice and relaxing moments but it feels lacking in many ways. Suited for child players, but for teens and above it is gonna become boring pretty soon.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hokko Life is a very good game kinda like Animal Crossing. The story is long, the furniture editor is extremely advanced and very complete. We can customize everything in this game like the houses of the villagers. The game is also very optimized, there is the possibility of crafting several items at the same time. The graphics are very beautiful and cute and the soundtrack is relaxing. I recommend it! 💗
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was able to take everyones stuff from their houses and sell it to furnish mine then laugh at them all. I even took their wallpaper and flooring and sold it for pennies. There might something else to the game, but that part made me laugh my butt off.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →so basically animal crossing but for pc and also customization is better than animal crossing imo. great game so far and i have so many opinions on the villagers, but honestly i was going to kick one of them out but he grew on me. i like that he writes books. he's mean, but i understand now he likes to just keep to himself and write books. respectable. i like him now. any way 10/10 game,, i love it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: If you're going to make a game based on a famous franchise like Animal Crossing, please, pick said games and understand why are they so praised. Not just cutesy animals but the gameplay elements as well. This review will consist of the few minutes of gameplay I've had, I'll try to power through until I get to the building furniture feature which I understand is one of the cores of the game. Upon hitting New Game, you’ll be directed to a character creation screen, the UI leaves a lot to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It saddens me to say that I hated my experience with this game. Not because it's broken, not because it's unplayable but mostly, mostly because it feels like it's not a complete experience. When you come across a good farming sim/ or game in this genre a good game always manages to pull you in with something. Games like Stardew valley, Graveyard keeper, Dave the diver, dinkum etc. usually give you a specific time window to try and get as much done as possible creating this ''Just one more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's mediocre. Nothing amazing. Quite slow and boring as well! If you're looking for this kind of game I'd recommend playing Animal Crossing instead. This is basically just a rip off of Animal Crossing. The art-style (excluding the character designs, not really to my liking) is quite cute and vibrant! It feels full of life and very cartoony at the same time. In summary, it's a rip off of Animal Crossing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It gets veeery grindy towards the end - at least if you`re going for all the Mayor Merits (sorta like ingame achievements/challenges which get you rewards and unlocks). I eventually gave up on that and settled for getting all Steam Achievements. Aside from that, some things are a bit... wonky. I unlocked the weather control device before the sprinklers, making the latter pointless. If you use fertilizer to make higher quality veggies, these do not count for the all veggies achievement - only…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As people say, got bored after a while. In my case, 19h. Now I don't even want to turn it back on and finish achievements or anything. It became rinse and repeat. The tasks. Do this, do that, so you could do more of this and that. There's no real story goal as to what you need to do to progress. It took me a long time to figure out that in order to progress, you have to craft this item or that instead of waiting for an explanation or trigger point.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game feels really empty. Like a soulless copy of Animal Crossing. It just doesn't have any charm of its own and it doesn't try to stand out.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this on sale for like $3, and thank gods I did. It's cute and mildly fun for a while, then quickly stops being so. Ended up really bored and didn't feel like pushing through.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is just checklist simulator. It takes all the things I liked from animal crossing and removed them. -NPCs are dead -Dialogue is not even correct English -You do not start an an empty island, and cannot change much -the tasks you get are just checklists with no true purpose. -animations are incomplete -mouse and keyboard use is limited -hitboxes are too small to interact with I haven't played that long, but the time I played was so miserable. I want my hour back.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Completely soulless and completely boring. It feels like the game is nowhere near being a complete game, there is nothing to do once you've played for 3 hours. Wouldn't recommend to anyone over the age of 5.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →like the game and the graphics/artstyle, had to get used to the controls but that's okay. it does get a bit grindy eventually tho, with less quests EDIT: i perfected the game 100%. it's a nice and fun game for achievement hunting, but not really as a daily cozy game to relax. so depending what your looking for i recommend buying it on sale for some fun achievement hunting overall rating 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can only half recommend this game. If you have the patience for a semi-abandoned game with some bugs then sure. But it has a lot of jank and I don't think this is down to me playing through proton atp. Something just felt off playing it despite what I had hoped. It could be so much better w/some updates for sure.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite the hours I've put into this, I struggle to play it. The game is relatively empty. There's no museum to complete. I liked the custom furniture mechanic. I want to 100% the achievements but every time I go into the game, no matter what I do, it feels like a chore. Farming feels horrendous when you first unlock it simply because your watering can can only water 6 crops until you have to refill it again. I'm sure there's an upgraded watering can, but it really shouldn't feel this bad when…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been loving this game so far. I had an itch for a game similar to Animal Crossing for a while and this game scratches that itch and more. It is very very similar to New Horizons, but also has many things that make it stand apart. I have always loved Animal Crossing, but New Horizons really didn't quite do it for me, and I have been enjoying Hokko Life more than New Horizons. The premise is mostly the same: -Travel to a town -Fix up the town -Build houses -Move in Villagers…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game lacks polish and my game got softlocked. I need to craft 10 wooden planks, but all my trees are gone and I can't plant more. No updates since launch yet endless 'challenges' by the devs. Dead on arrival hoenstly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played for the first time today and I couldn't get past the "tutorial". You need 40 logs to make your own house but the resources available only gave me 36. At this point in the game, you have been given no other tools other then an axe so there is nothing else to do at all...I tried sleeping for a few days to see if any logs would spawn but they didn't. And then I had to alt + f4 to close the game because the exit game button didn't work... I'll try again in a few years....maybe
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a whole, it just feels average. If you're into making furniture from scratch, customizing the villager's homes, there's a robust system to delve into. Get it on a 75 to 85% sale as I did.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite honestly this game seems to be for very young children only, the graphics are adorable at first but the gameplay is repetetive and becomes boring very fast. I got through the first season, finding that almost everyday became a daily grind. And it became boring really fast.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're looking for a good game like "Animal Crossing" but don't have a Nintendo Switch, this is an excellent option. (For some reason, I actually like this game better.) Granted? Here's what I think I would advise adding, if they wanted me to pay full price for this game: = Steam Workshop (For outfits, items, designs, NPCs, races, house designs, and even custom made locations. Alongside custom game mechanics.) = Humans NOT being the only playable race, for obvious reasons.) = The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you loved Animal Crossing, you will LOVE Hokko Life! I think I prefer this game over Animal Crossing. You can play at your pace, and you can sleep to move time along. That is really helpful in the early game when you don't have access to as many places. Your character is cute, and the animal villagers are each unique and interesting!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cozy. Sweet. Vibin' This game was everything I wanted from Animal Crossing and more. There were a couple hiccips here and there and the only negative I have isn't really a negative against the game, more of just personal preference since I prefer simpler crafting mechanics. Time skipping is readily available within the game so you have the option to play as fast or as slow as you want to. I have more control over my item placements and I can pick and choose which villagers I want on my…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game, but I just couldn't get into it. I kept falling asleep. It's probably best played by younger kids. Maybe an 8 year old would have fun with the building and chopping trees? It's too slow and too simple.
