I'd rather preferred to give this a thumbs up, but after finishing the game, I'm thoroughly in the 'do not recommend' portion now. The game is centred around a protagonist that finds herself in a mystery to solve that her late grandfather couldn't. Said protagonist slowly gets obsessed over it and the player has a point-and-click style sort of way to get through this game. I like the deduction system, the elements, the environments and the travelling. Looks and sounds good so far. First, the…

This game looks amazing. And it has pretty good voice acting. Here stops the list of qualities, as far as I can tell. The puzzles are nonsensical, the UI is sadistic... It seems the devs didn't want you to figure things out by yourself, but rather just wanted you to be frustrated and confusingly click around until you stumbled upon whatever nonsense they had in mind. Add to that a bunch of random characters who are about as sympathetic as mosquitos on a hot summer night and about as…

I wish I could give a 'neutral' review because I really cannot totally recommend the game and I really don't want to give it a full negative review. Pros: Music was really good and added a nice ambiance to the story. Art was great looking and the action sequences were amazing because you get to step back and watch the moment unfold. The overall story was pretty good, I enjoyed the concept and the backstory they built. There is a dog and you can pet it. I got to punch a Nazi which was…

The storytelling in this game is atrocious. [Mild spoilers first chapter] You cannot just put into a game that some terrorist blows up a beer tent during Oktoberfest, presumably with people inside, and then have the main character go home like nothing happened. The entire game is full of plot devices like this. Oh you lost your memory - handy that your grandpa's journal has a scorpion skin cigarette inside that is an antidote to the poison that made you loose your memory. The entire clue…

The story feels like a bad parody on the Davinci Code. Puzzles were too obscure and required a lot of guesswork. Voice acting is too exaggerated and half the time doesn't match character's displayed emotions. Listening to dialogue options sounds like listening to a set of unrelated recordings, because sometimes they go from one extreme emotion to another within the same scene - first dialogue option makes the character panic, second one he's talking as if it's a casual chat in a cafe. Main…

As an adventure visual novel, Hauma: A Detective Noir Story looks great. The graphic novel art style, with splashes of bright colours used against black backgrounds to complement the genre’s cynicism and moral ambiguity, is the best thing going for this VN. A few more action lines could have accentuated movements in the static art panels, but the art was what kept me playing. Sadly, Hauma: A Detective Noir Story had me at “noir”, but lost me at story. I’ve always enjoyed the noir genre. With…

EDIT IMPORTANT: THIS IS NOT THE SAME STORY AS THE HAUMA PROLOGUE. Ngl. That makes me so mad. It's practically a scam or at least false advertisement. I played that prologue and loved it. The story of that and worldbuilding is amazing. So I got this thinking it'd be the continuation and... nope. Entirely different thing, with much MUCH lesser quality. Don't waste your money. If you do here's my review of THIS game: Starts really good and intriguing... then it just flops. It's a slow downfall…

Bought this game because... well, honestly, you could've named this 'Computer Virus - A Detective Noir Story' and I would still go "Ooh, a Detective Noir story!" and buy it. It's an engaging story with simple but effective - and occasionally just a tiny bit confusing - gameplay, fantastic artwork throughout, and despite some surface level faults (occasional unclear gameplay, really could have used a closing voiceover narration explaining the aftermath of the ending, which instead happens…

Full run takes about 3.5 hours, unfortunately it has a game breaking bug where you just get stuck inside a room and all interactive objects disappear, reloading doesn't work, so you either had a backup save or you have to restart the game and hope it doesn't happen again, not sure why they didn't fix it yet as I see a lot of people encountered the bug, including me. That aside it's a nice little detective game, lots of puzzles that require thinking and paying attention to what's happening in…

Update: The devs are actually working on the issue after I reported it, and they made a workaround available on the discord. This game is broken, there are soft locks lying in wait for you here and there which will render your save unplayable. Other than that, it was at times entertaining if not very good writing. You follow a trail of breadcrumbs left hundreds of years prior and somehow are left untouched even though many are in very public places and are exposed by increasingly dubious…

Thumb down for the time being because I had the misfortune of encountering a game-breaking bug in the police station. Since I didn't have the will to throw my 4 hours of playtime into the bin and start anew I had to join the devs' Discord server to fetch a savefile that brought me only more problems because the toolbox wasn't where it was supposed to be, so I had to change the savefile to make it appear but then I couldn't go to the Oktoberfest location. At that point I said "♥♥♥♥ it". If the…

This game got me hooked from the first illustrations I saw. It plays in Munich and as a local you feel very much connected with the scenery. It's a graphic novel with some Lucas Art game attitudes. Pros: - Great art style - Tough main character - Good voice actors Cons: - Like in LucasArt oder Sierra adventures some of the puzzles are not as…

In terms of story, art, style and general ambience, Hauma was good and entertaining. It made me want to visit Munich. In terms of game play, the basic idea of "combine ideas to solve mysteries" was good, but the execution left a lot of room for improvement. I ran into a bug where a certain scripted event wouldn't be triggered, until I ran back and forth several times. There were some action sequences where the wrong choice simply would get you killed and you just had to retry until you got it…

In a way, the headline tag (a detective noir story) is untrue; it's not about hardcore noir detectives with fast fists, though there's some of that. There's a paranormal aspect to it, which is the crux of the story, and while the protagonist is kind of a bad-ass, noir is not the main theme. I also feel that, even though Munich is the setting, and some aspects of that are used well, I missed seeing characteristic Munich settings... Assamkirche, Residenz Palace, even the excellent subway system.…

Intuitive puzzles for the most part and a multi-faceted storyline that puts a lot of action into a few hours. The comic book art style is fantastic, and the cut-scenes gain a lot from it. Judith is an effective leading character and her conversations with the side characters are of high quality, convincingly acted and with good voice acting. The gameplay is simple point-and-click and I like how the numerous items and notes all build upon the mystery.

We play as Judith, an alcoholic former detective with some anger issues who was unjustly forced to resign from the force. Depite what devs say, the game breaking police station bug is still here in 2026. I actually liked the lead's personality. No she's not a sweet girl but she is an entertaining character. The game mechanics are terrible. Slow and frustraiting. In an attempt to align with its genre of detective noir, the writing takes an extremely *american* detective noir slant and lacks the creativity to adopt a german lens to the logic of these characters' actions, despite what the setting may imply. Very small spoilers hidden, personally I don't think they affect the story too much. I usually like it when the prologue and the game itself aren't the same thing. However, it would've been great if they had been a little bit more connected. The game alludes sometimes to things that happen in the prologue, but they're admittedly too short or small. I dont' think it should've been too much, because I also think this game should work on its own without needing to play the prologue to…

Hauma – A Detective Noir Story is a visual-novel adventure that approaches noir from a grounded, contemporary angle, exchanging the rain-soaked alleyways of classic hard-boiled fiction for the cultural and political underbelly of modern Munich. Developed by SenAm Games and published by Assemble Entertainment, it follows Judith, a former detective whose life has unraveled long before the game begins. Instead of stepping into the shoes of an eager investigator, players inhabit someone reluctant,…

Did the devs forget that German players exist? The voice acting is great and this is no slight to the voice actors, but it seems borderline insane to me that they didn't have a German at least check it. The main character cant even pronunce "Wolpertingerbräu" and instead says "Wolperbrey". Neither "Oktoberfest" nor "Wiesn" are being pronunced correctly either. Imagine a game set in London, but the VA says "Lindan" everytime instead and that goes for every German word in this. Given that these…

I really enjoyed this. Very decent visual novel/ choices-matter game. Great voice acting across the board, good story and excellent artwork throughout. I completed it within 6 hours but veterans of the genre would probably do it within 3-4 hours I would think. Not a lot of replayability as I think there is only one true ending - I wasn't offered repeat playthroughs to get other endings. Still, a superbly entertaining game.
