If nothing else, this is a genre open to interpretation. Not every shmup needs to have hundreds of millions of bullets on-screen, nor do they require deep and somewhat obtuse scoring systems. Sometimes it's a good idea to take the basic concept and move it in a different direction. When this classic genre…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was reviewed with a key from the developer Gameplay Footage and Video Review: https://youtu.be/BWnF1l0CHDM Summary: A good, but not great shoot em up. The game takes some inspiration from Mega Man, and it shows with the focus on secondary weapons and changing it up for the situation. Between that and the enemy variety + combinations, you've got a good strong core element in Gryphon Knight Epic, that complements it's charming aesthetic and reasonable story line. But there are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game has a similar style to Metal Slug and is great for fans of the sidescrolling shooter genre. I thought the "turning" mechanic was very unique (turn your gryphon backwards to shoot other way). The game consists of 6 stages/bosses and one final area/boss along with upgrades and secrets to find along the way. I beat the main story in about 6 hours, but if you want to grind out 100% achievements, I figure you will get double that playtime out of this game. This game is well worth it full price…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Entertaining side scrolling shooter game! Has a neat art style and soundtrack that ties the game together nicely. Variety of difficulties and challenging stages. Lots of hidden upgrades and various secret areas. It felt a little floaty at times but not too bad. If you enjoy shoot em up games you will probably like this one too!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When contra meets megaman, gryphon knight happens. Pros - Secrets, lots of them. - A wide selection of weapons to suit your shooting needs, each suiting one different playstyle. - 3 Difficult levels that match what a person wants. - Meaningful achievements(it actually feels like a real achievement to get hit 0 times on epic stages, those are tough!) Cons - The hitbox for some of the projectiles seems a bit weird, but nothing game breaking. - Short playtime, its fun, but its short, having 2…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Full disclosure: I am a friend of the developers and a backer of this project on KS. That said, my opinion of the game would have been the same regardless. GKE stands alongside the best shmups I have played. I am a fan of the genre from the days of 1942, R-Type, Raiden and, more recently, the excellent Ikaruga. GKE's medieval setting is a welcome detour from the typical themes of the genre, and fits the game extremely well. Gameplay is everything you would expect from a modern shmup with a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, a nice side-scrolling shooter. The controls and movement are a little awkward and take some time to get used to. There are three difficulty levels which offer a nice increase in challenge and reward. The game is not grindy, but can be if you want to by continually retrying levels to earn more coins or chase the leaderboard charts. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did this review in two ways. Here's a link to the video review, followed by the text if you prefer reading it. https://youtu.be/caQ69am45cI Introduction Gryphon Knight Epic is a side scrolling shoot-em up with a medieval fantasy theme. You play as Sir Oliver riding atop your faithful gryphon Aquila who is not just fierce, but also immune to all damage. The story premise is that Oliver and his companions have come back from defeating a dragon and plundering its’ treasure hoard. But that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of rare 2D Medieval Action-Shooter games mixed with elements of exploration and duel-like boss battles. Being a huge fan of old Genesis/NES games along with Contra, Megaman, Aladdin and Metal Slug this brings back nostalgy so hard that keeps me playing continuously. Lately very often we get release which is supposed to get those effects on players with retro-arcade style and Gryphon Knight Epic is definitely one of them with a bit more of something. You are taking role of Sir Oliver who…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun and polished game. I like it as a gentler introduction to the shmup genre, with super cool exploration and RPG elements mixed in! For this price it is an absolute steal, as it is packed with content, bosses, secrets to find and really cool-looking stages!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gryphon Knight Epic is a great game which is the combination of Megaman + Gradius in a classic RPG fantasy/medieval world. The thing that most impressed me in this game is that every stage is an unique experience, since they don't repeat enemies and every minion and boss has a different behavior pattern that you'll learn through the game! The boss battles can be pretty fun when you discover the best weapon and strategy to beat them. The game can be pretty easy if you decide to farm a lot and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just went through my first playthrough. (Knight difficulty) Wow. Holy poop. What a game. First, there is no shortage of shmups in indie gaming. From your arcade classic Raiden clones, to your side-scrollers that are influenced by Steel Empire - you can't type the word "indie shooter" in the search bar on Steam and not find at least a few dozen decent games that can satisfy that itch for a few bucks and a few hours. It takes something special for a game to stand out on it's own in that genre.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Este jogo é fantástico! Sempre adorei o gênero the shoot'em all e este aqui superou minhas expectativas. Alguns chefões exigem queimar um pouco o cérebro pra entender a mecânica para vencê-los, mas a cabeça tem que servir pra algo de vez em quando, não? Recomendo pra todos que querem um jogo leve e divertido sem ser fácil demais.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hidden gem. Worth it for the beautiful pixel art alone.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the most fun schmups I have ever had the pleasure of playing. As you can tell by the trailer, this is a schmup where you play as a knight, riding on a gryphon and shooting everything that moves. What you might not see is all the cool adventure/rpg mechanics that are built into it. Each level has branching paths, hidden items, and upgradeaple weapons/runes. As you kill enemies you collect gold and you can use this gold in the shops to buy potions, sidekicks that help in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ Entertaining shoot'em up. + Reasonable difficulty (at least EPIC). + Nice boss battles. + Every stage is unique. + Variety of enemies. + Variety of weapons, runes, consumable items etc. + Upgradeable weapons/runes. + Replayability. + Secrets. + Beautiful, pixel graphics. + Quite good soundtrack. + Simple, humorous story. + I like the ending. + Cheap. - Some issues with hitbox.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great pixel art, good levels, great boss battles, humurous story yet engaging. Little on the short side but not too short. Overall a great 2d game with a fair challenge.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun (and hard if you want!) game that feels like a mix of mega man and traditional shumps!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The shoot' em up with incredible design and a lot of secrets to unlock.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With hitbox resizing, the ability to move in one direction while shooting in another, and some difficulty adjustments, Gryphon Knight Epic could be an okay game. As it stands, it's a messy medieval hodgepodge that you'd be better off avoiding at all costs. Save yourself some money by instead buying some feathers and a fake beak and putting them on your dog. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Every now and then a game comes along that tugs at your retro-gaming bones with simple sprites, easy controls and basic mechanics. Gryphon Knight Epic is one of those games, but do not let that be a disservice because at its heart the game is pure and enjoyable and priced perfectly. You play the role of the Knight and his trusty steed, the Gryphon who for all intents and purpose are one in the same as you venture forth together on your epic tale of good deeds and adventure all wrapped up in a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gryphon Knight Epic brings some interesting gameplay tweeks to the classic shoot 'em up formula. It also has beautiful pixel art, tons of enemies and a well polished presentation.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is awesome! It's not perfect, but I was surprised by how much fun it was. This is a side-scrolling shoot 'em up, but it is not a bulet hell game. It is not as difficult as some of your other shooters, but is has a decent story, and fun mechanics, and plenty of secrets and alternate paths. I haven't seen this is many of the other reviews, but the game takes a lot from the Megaman series, and it implemented them into a scrolling shooter pretty well. I'm surprised that the game has…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get this game now! This is indeed how I start this review! Its rare for me to shoot a review out that says BUY THIS NOW.. but in this case DO IT! Neo-Retro Feel and look user pepsimanvsjoe gave a perfect review in my eyes. Gryphon Knight Epic, is a side scrolling loop back shooter, where you play a knight.. riding on a griffon or Gryphon in this case. There are truly no negatives in this game, Those that did exist were patched up, very quickly, like key and button mapping Some issues still…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A beautiful and captivating game that has, as it's main quality, managed to mix the magic and challenge of a shoot'em up of yore to the possibilities of new technology. Those who love and missed the genre will have plenty to work with and the new players of the genre will get to know it by a very pleasant experience.

The warriors are successful in defeating their dragon nemesis and find a treasure horde in the process. Each warrior claims a piece of the treasure for their very own. The protagonist of the story, a knight named Oliver, claims an amulet. Little did these battle-hardened veterans know that the treasure was cursed. The curse allows…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent game for Shoot'Em Up fans, the animations resemble those of Metal Slug, and the ability to fly in both directions makes for a good improvement.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well. I've seen enough (and I know it isn't much). This game is just too slow to satisfy me. Slow scrolling. Slow shooting. Slow enemy projectiles. Slow movement. Slow story. I will say though, it does have beautiful sprite art, somewhat reminiscent of the Sega Saturn era. Very large and detailed sprites with nice animation. I just could not stand the slow crawl of this gameplay though. It's a side-scrolling shooter. I am supposed to feel adrenaline, not boredom.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Verdict: Recommended even with full price tag + charismatic graphic challenging bosses original enemies interesting weapons replayability (3 difficuilties) hiden cameos from other indie games old-school feeling achievements trading cards soundtrack plays well on both keyboard and controler - some hitboxes are kinda iffy quite short no voice acting no longer updated no multiplayer (online nor local)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful graphics and animations. Nice upgrades, nice variety with branching paths. Overall a great addition to your shmup collection.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the story and the pixel art. The game is a bit slow and easy, but that's good (I don't have the stamina for crazy bullet hell games anymore, I'm too old for that).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gryphon Knight Epic is a combination of a Horizontal Shmup and an Action game featuring multiple sub weapons, potions and the ability to head multiple directions in order to discover secrets. We play as Sir Oliver and his fantastic mustache on a journey to save his friends that have fallen to corruption. Always on his trusty Griffin and armed with a crossbow the gameplay will instantly be familiar to anyone that's ever played a shmup. Upon completing the tutorial you will be introduced to the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a lovely game! The Battle Bosses are so epic. Is difficult and that's why it's ♥♥♥♥ awesome!!! Gryphon Knight Epic 2 !!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not a great shoot'em up fan nor a good player of the genre, but it's graphics and proposal got my attention and, well, got some of my time 'till I've finished it. Gryphon Knight Epic delivers perfectly what it says it is: a classical game with some HARD challenges. But beatable ones and I need to say I was very surprised I've managed to finish it without a thousand retries. :) Populating all that, it got some half a dozen different scenarios with very unique enemies and bosses, making it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I did a video review for this game over at youtube [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=darUf08sABU] Here! But for a TLDW(TooLongDidn'tWatch) it's a: Very Challenging Shoot Em Up that looks like Metal Slug with a Megaman style game route. If do pick up this game, I highly suggest finding the Dash Rune. It'll make the game a lot more fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a MUST HAVE for shmup fans. Cool retro style graphics, incredible sound track, ultra hardcore shmup with upgradable weapons, multiple path scrolling, hidden items. Overall, a very intense experience like only few other shmups could possibly offer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mediocre game, its fine that it does not really innovate but to compensate it should really be polished and this game is not. CONS: - the controls feels off, not that responsive or satisfying - there are several bugs and crashes, and loading menus and levels is slow - running the game in full screen as opposed to window is buggy PROS: + nice aesthetics + some variety in bosses, secrets (though really obvious), potions & minions
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Impossible for me to even finish the first 2 levels because of the cluncy controlls and weird hitboxes. Changing directions is rather confusing and completely nonsense. One of the few games that make me rage because of gameplay elements. I love ondschool 2D shoot em up but this aint the cake. Not well done
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gryphon Knight Epic is a "Medieval Shmup", otherwise known as: the main weapon is a crossbow, which results in weak hitsounds and makes the gameplay feel unsatisfying. Medieval Shmup is a bit shorter though. The game isn't that long, which is good in this case, the final section is just like in the Megaman games. Making you fight all bosses in a row before getting to the final one, if you die to any of them you have to fight all of them over again. The graphics aren't great, looking at the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring, uninspired gameplay combined with visual garbage as well as annoying (Not challenging) enemies make this game trash. Skip this at all cost.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun, non-bullet hell shmup. +You get different secondary weapons beating bosses and can upgrade them as well as buy potions for health, invincibility, strength etc. +Very nicely detailed 2d sprite work. +A well done story with lots of cuts ends (can be skipped). +Orchestrated soundtrack. +A fresh and different take on the shmup genre. +Good achievements and full controller support. -The odd hit box (only the Knight can be hurt but it's a vertical box. The fact his sprite is large…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the word epic gets over used it has lost some of its oomph but it totally deserves to be in the title of this side scrolling rpg shooter I would have been good with EXTREME as well I could recommend GKE to anyone it is fun and has pretty pixels think about this you are a knight shooting a 3 way crossbow on a gryphon that is the definition of epic i always chose gryphons over dragons back in the day they are much more comfortable and safer for the family jewels gryphons are way less…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Status: I will beat that last boss...later Presentation The graphics are top-notch and look like a true labor of love. It's a pixel art of a quality you sadly don't see often in retro-like games (not some primitive-1bit-see-like-it-was-on-NES-old-retro-nah-I-can't-draw-hipster BS from modern hacks, but something which you'd see in the greatest arcade hits of 90s). The animations are crisp and smooth, sprites are very detailed and there's a huge amount of things going on the screen, which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent game, seems slow paced at times but overall I think the speed works well. Nice set of different weapons, all of which are upgradable and tight responsive controls. The graphics are well done, and the backgrounds have movement in them. Not a bullet hell, but worth checking out for any fan of shoot-em-ups.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simply, and to the point, this game is a side-scroller look-back to the SNES era - the handmade artwork and the side scrolling style make that evidently clear. The story mode, where the biggest part of the fun lies, presents several obstacles: Different stages, giant boss battles, charismatic characters to duel with. Add a few touches, like unlockables and leaderboards, and it allows for some replayability even past that. If you miss Contra or Mega Man, and you enjoy facing danger head first,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a spectacular action experience with the right dose of humor. It is a mix of the series that blew my head in the mid-90 and amazing modern features such as achievements. I hope guys from Cyberine will continue bringing us more "epic" games in the future! Totaly recommend it!!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game with beatiful art and a innovative view of a old game mechanic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a shooter, Gryphon Knight Epic has a lot of potential, but fails to live up to it. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not being a big fan of the shoot 'em up genre, Gryphon Knight Epic is not the type of game that I would normally play. I usually don't like shoot 'em ups because I generally aren't very good at them. Gryphon Knight Epic is a pretty hard game but that could also be because I have never been good at the genre. Other than being kind of hard, I had fun with the game. The controls are good and are simple to use. The game adds some interesting elements including a shop where you can use the gold…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty fun game but was bit short. I wouldn't have paid no more than $10. The art is quite good and levels are gorgeous. The action is fun and varied. Bosses are challenging if not tad predictable.

With its retro-inspired visuals, challenging gameplay, and a touch of fantasy, the game aims to capture the spirit of old-school arcade shooters. Graphics and Presentation (3.5/5): The game adopts a pixel art style that evokes nostalgia for classic arcade shooters. The character and enemy designs are well-crafted, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gryphon Knight Epic is a badly made console ported 2D retro pixel side scrolling shoot 'em up with a medieval fantasy skin on it, and remarkably weak arcade gameplay, resulting in something that has absolutely no value whatsoever for gamers. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice but slow paced with not auto fire, shoot'em up. At least it start like that and that is enough to critic. You will spend your time pressing a button to fire slow bullets and not feeling any impact nor satisfaction while destroying your targets. It is so slow that you have the time to press fire button much more times than bullets can be fired. I played 10mn then fired the game from my disk. That was quick. And not recommended.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A quite good shmup, really fun and good difficulty, many ennemis / boss to defeat The game is a little short and unfortunately people that have bought the original version doesn't have get the definitive edition for free(that the same game will just one extra level / area) Final Note : 14/20
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WARNING: Do NOT buy this version of this game! Check out the Definitive Edition here instead: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1364430/Gryphon_Knight_Epic_Definitive_Edition/ Also, the full price of this first version of Gryphon Knight Epic should be permanently reduced at least by half, since it makes no sense for it to have the same price as the Definitive Edition. OR, it should just be included with the purchase of the Definitive Edition.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gryphon Knight Epic is one of those games that you get interested in it's aesthetic and like, even more, when you start to play. The game already caught my attention for its initial plot. It could be another classic story of a knight who rescues the princess in the castle, kills the dragon and takes the treasure, but the story of the game begins after these events, which totally changes an already explored narrative. Our hero, as well as his partners, take special items in the dragon's…
