(Addendum: as Sprocket pointed out in the comments, apparently the C64 levels are available in the "retro" section.) Well, it clearly says so on the store page, and apparently the DS game was not bad at all. The port on the other hand is bad. You may also expect this game to be made by Black Forest Games, who are responsible for the amazing "Twisted…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly Black Forest Games removed the excellent pixel look of the original Nintendo DS version. I can still recommend the game, but it's a damn shame: The NDS version is perfect.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A quick review of Giana Sisters 2D! + The art style looks cute and they did a good job creating high resolution versions of all the DS artwork. + The music's great. + All the levels carry over from DS version, and though I haven't played through this entire port, I can remember enjoying playing through the game on DS. + You start with 112 million points. - While kinda cool and funny, I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to start with 112 million points. - I fell through a block, I walked over a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like retro and niche titles, please follow my new and still work-in-progress curator list, the [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/39372135/]Lists of Niche. This is basically a good game. Unfortunately it is a lazy port with many bugs, The developer/publisher has been informed by users countless times (check the discussions), but did not act. At least it is possible to finish the game, but you will encounter: - Unpolished hit boxes (which are ok most of the time, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some background: I never played the original version of this game, but I absolutely loved Twisted Dreams and Rise of the Owlverlord. So I'm disappointed to say that this game is just a bad Mario clone. I don't mean that it's a game that fails to emulate Mario; I mean it's a game that emulates the formula of Mario perfectly but is so much worse.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This Game Rocks since 1987 Yes Kids 1987! This is a classic game. Thanks for this HD Design and for the tunes in Game. I love the tunes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was suprised when I saw trhis title in the store and bought it in a heart beat. I was a fan of the c64 version and Amiga version. I personalyy think it was and this new version is a great game. I specially bought it for my little girl. And she likes it too. Although I would have liked the abilty to play in modern Gui and in 8-bit style line they did with Monkey Island. Nevertheless I recommend this game if you like mario style and relaxing games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: + It has a ton of levels and many secret levels. + The controls are tight. + The music is as great as always. Cons: - Graphically, it's a mess. - It is rushed. Definitely. - It needs patching. - It lacks the feeling that a Giana title needs to have. - There are too many small errors than I could count. 3/5 Recommendation: No at this point. Wait for patches.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm amazed and shocked how they managed to screw everything up... - Terrible level designs ✓ - Bad collisions ✓ - Awful hitboxes ✓ - Loading the wrong levels ✓ - Teleporting you out of bounds in the middle of the map randomly ✓ - Invisible enemies ✓ - Invisible projectiles ✓ - There's only 1 boss, but you have to fight it like 10 times ✓ - After dying on a level, you respawn dead, so you constantly lose your extra lives, unless you quit ✓ - Blindly jumping to your death, cause you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not as good as DS version but I really enjoy playing it. There are few bugs but I hope they will be patched.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Make yourself a favor an emulate the DS version of this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a broken piece of crap. The scoring system, hit detection, achievements, and level selection doesn't work properly. The game was released over 9 months ago and there hasn't been any single update. Don't buy this game. Get the Nintendo DS version instead. It's much more superior and better looking.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm going to sum up this review very quickly for those who don't want to read paragraphs of text for an $8 game. Save your money, go buy a 7 layer burrito from Taco Bell, eat the insides, then take the tortilla, use it as a frisbee to play catch with yourself then spend an hour destroying your plumbing while screaming and begging for mercy and you'll have saved not only a few bucks but a couple hours of your life as well. The game is bland, uninspired, and has a number of bugs that could easily…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now I am writing this from the perspective of someone who hasn't played the DS version, I cannot say how accurate of a port this is. What I can say is that this game suffers from a lot of bugs. I fell through blocks at some points, got stuck inside walls, etc. While the newer Giana Sisters games were much better and changed things up a lot, Giana Sisters 2D goes back to the series' roots of just copying Mario. Jump on enemy's heads to kill them, or use the punk powerup to throw a fireball.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Giana Sisters 2D is a somewhat trimmed-down platformer of a fairly popular DS version. It brings the little sisters back to the world of wonders and nightmares, as they try to defeat the big Ol’ Evil dragon, collect as much crystals as possible, and teach all manner of pesky critters that you don’t mess with an angry teenager! Hey, growing up is complicated, alright?! There are nearly 90 new levels, along with original 32 levels from the Commodore AMIGA version. Most of them are fairly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Giana Sisters 2D may seem like the kind of simple little platformer you'd sit down and enjoy for an evening or two from the videos and screenshots, but a myriad of bugs and awful hit detection make the game more of a waste and not really even worth checking out for fans of the original game. Bugs encountered in just 44 minutes of playing stages 1-1 through 3-9 include: -The game's hit detection is garbage, plain and simple. -The scoring system is ENTIRELY busted. I started the game with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow...this is just...bad... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2963781646 Ok, for people which doesnt know, "the great gian(n)a sisters" were born back in the day as clone from the Super Mario Bros back in the 1980s on the C64. They were really good back than and even had a new version on the Nintendo DS which was also great - to easy but still an ok platformer for the time. This version is based on said DS version which also came out on phones but...yeaaaaaa...this is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game might me a third rate wannabe Super Mario Bros, but dammit, it's a fun third rate Super Mario Bros. For a more detailed review, you can see one here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7g0BEOITMI
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an insult to the original DS version. Its the old iPhone version of the game, with the same problems it had back in 2010, but with a wider screen to see them clearly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would reccomend playing the original DS version however you can over this version. It really is a bad port of a decent game. Even the visuals somehow feel like a step back. I don't really have much to add, just confirming what a lot of other reviews have mentioned. I had Stage 2-2 run twice in a row, The hit boxes feel off, the controls feel loose compared to the original. It's just not good.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is by far the worst game I have ever played. Poor gameplay unresponsive controls bad hitboxes the wrong level loads sometimes, so you skip a level but play the next one twice extremely easy for the most part jumps where you bump your head and fall unless you do it pixel-perfectly there is only one very boring boss, which you have to do 7 times enemy attacks aren't telegraphed at all, you can jump on one and take damage because they shot in the same frame you killed them…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Remaster of a classic game. If you played Commodore64 or Amiga version of this game back in the day, this is going to be back on the memory lane for you. It´s not 1:1 remake, like the boss levels are missing and you don´t get the "fire flower" in this version, but still if you are familiar with the original, you need to play this. Developers bring the original Commodore64 version to Steam !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A plethora of bugs since day one. Not a single patch or word from the devs after initial promises ("we'll provide the best support possible"). Born dead, do not buy. Read the "support" thread here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/350770/discussions/0/490123938430313433/ Update 2016-11-24: Still unpatched after over 1 year. Just saying. Update 2017-11-25: Nominated for "Labor of Love" Steam Award. Yes, this is meant to be ironic. Update 2018-11-25: Same old ♥♥♥♥.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Giana Sisters 2D is a pretty bad platformer. The character designs are cute and the soundtrack is peppy, but that's unfortunately where the positive points come to a screeching halt. It quickly becomes apparent just how one-note and basic the level design is, once you've played a couple levels you've seen all the game has to offer, including the boss! Because the game makes you fight the exact same boss with the exact same mechanics after each of the 8 worlds. The platforming ranges from piss…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A simplified version of everyone's favorite Mario, very similar in terms of mechanics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can only recommend this game as a lesson on how not to make a platformer. Possibly the jankiest one I've ever played. In fact, playing this game is master lesson in "jank". Did you ever wonder what that word meant? "Jank"? This game, Giana Sisters 2D is jank. Levels randomly repeat, graphics have visible seams, cheap deaths, cheap jumps, scattered level design with no rhyme or reason. A lot of people praise the DS version of this game but I'm fairly sure that the level designs are the same.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just buyed this game mostly from nostalgia reason - I was playing original Giana Sisters on Commodore 64 and Amiga 1200. pros: - Looks really nice cons: - could not properly configure my controller using game settings - there is something wrong with sprite collisions. I dont know why some enemies dies when I just touch it (not from above). In original Giana Sisters they can be killed only when you touch them from above (like in mario games) - various bugs like wrong level number on loading…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Giana Sisters 2D is the most soulless of cash grab shovelware I have ever seen. Made even more impressive by the fact that this game was designed to capitalize on the notoriety of the original, which was itself a soulless cash grab Super Mario Bros. clone. And this game is a cheap copy of that - and a bad port of that copy no less! A clone of a clone with absolutely awful level design, no thought put into anything, cheap enemies, the graphics on this version are intentionally stretched from…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the C64 Giana Sisters and I played this game on the Nintendo DS, and while the DS game was an insult to the C64 Giana Sisters, this game is an insult to the DS game and to aspiring game developers as a whole. It feels painful to play this in every way, it's a casual platformer that works okay on a handheld but is unbearable to slog through on PC. If you ever played the DS version you already know that there's a single recycled boss and nobody wants to slowly float in a bubble (that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to play this on Amiga / C64, and I was young. These days, I´m almost dead, but Giana Sisters is still pretty fun :P
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Neat Little Gem which I'm surprised got another Remake, and for the most part it's pretty faithful to the original DS Remake. It lacks a bit of polish and Giana's Sprite (both Normal and Goth) feel a little too unnatural for my liking (it's the face), but overall if you haven't already played Giana Sisters on the DS then this port here isn't a bad place to start at all. Plus it's fairly inexpensive. So if you haven't already played what's essentially a pretty stellar Clone of the original…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Giana Sisters is my favorite Mario game, and I'm not even kidding. Well, maybe not exactly this particular version... The only reason to play it is the amazing soundtrack. That's it. Giana Sisters DS was excellent, and I have a hard time understanding why anyone would want to downgrade it for something like this. Everything here, except the music, is a few steps behind the DS game. The visuals here are bland, there are a lot of glitches and other weird issues that will make you wonder why…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams. But this one is pure garbage. The levels are more or less copies of Super Mario Bros (NES). The game is super slow (you cannot run and the regular walk is a stroll). But worst of all: The controls are so unresponsive, that the challenge is not the level-design, but the controls. It's just not fun to play and therefore you can definitely skip this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the original Nintendo DS game is a fun albeit basic little platformer, this HD remaster is absolute, barely working trash. Rather than being handled by the original developers, it was outsourced to a porting company that made a complete mess out of this game, riddling it with bugs and game-breaking glitches, screwing up controls, hit collisions, and other basic mechanics of a platforming game, and in general, making such a shoddy work than even if you ignore all the other stuff, it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Never been a huge fan of 2D plattformers and I don't have nostalgia for the original. I bought it as part of a bundle, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. It looks good and the animations aren't bad, but gameplaywise it feels like a flash game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wasn't sure what I expected walking into this game - All I knew was of the original game, "The Great Giana Sisters" relased for the Commodore 64 back in the late 80s, in which anyone that saw even a quick glimpse of the game would immediately recognise just how similar it was to Super Mario Brothers, which had released shortly before. Like. We're talking bootleg level of infringement! Now, that's what I thought this was - A remake of the original commodore 64 game. But upon research learned…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I reached level 2-5 with 10 lives and tried to jump over two big bouncing balls. I died 11 times in a row because the effin' hitboxes are horrible off. The game up to that point was way too easy and linear. I has nothing to do with the old GGS and also nothing with the quite nicely remastered Twisted Dreams. Get it when it's really cheap or in a bundle, but don't pay 5 or even 8 bucks for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got twisted Dreams free and loved it. i am also a retro gamer. But seriously...no. This feels like a bad SMB clone that is as hollow as those easter chocolate rabbits. And it just falls apart as easy. it also can be annoying in that if you don't get the red crystals for the level.....do it all again. Go back to SMB instead. It is way older and way more fun. However, if you can get Twisted Dreams, that is a definite one to pick up. Edit: I am done with this. 95% of my deaths are due to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →don`t waste your time, achievements are broken, still
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →bad hit detection, aite music, bad level design, and cheap looking sprites and artwork. all in all buy it if its like a dollar or something 2/10 go play some mario or something :)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved the original from the C64 back in the day. I've bought each new Giana Sisters from Black Forest and I've been disappointed with each one. This is a very easy, slow paced game. It's very hard to die, unless you want to. The music will scratch your nostalgia bug, but the game can't and won't. Get an emulator and play the original. Leave this and the other Black Forest Giana games alone.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What the hell happened to this game? After the amazing Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams, it should have been a surefire hit, port or not. Instead, it does a lot of stuff badly: the controls are inaccurate, the collision detection is shockingly bad, and the levels are bland. In a nutshell, every aspect of the gameplay goes wrong that was just about perfect in GSTD. The audiovisuals are cute, but that's hardly much redemption. So disappointing...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically a poor mans version of Super Mario Bros. 4/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →redone very well! there are things that remind me when I played the commodore A500 but the back mode is not the same as the original.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I first played Great Giana Sisters on the Commodore 64 as a teenager, and then on my Amiga 500 a few years later, and it was one of my favourite games of the era. I wasn't expecting much from this modern remake after reading the negative reviews, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The music and the controls really capture the essence of the classic original game and the addictive gameplay elements are still as enjoyable today. For me this is much more enjoyable than Twisted Dreams which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sorry to say, but I am really rather disappointed by this. After Black Forest's rather good reimagining of Giana Sisters from my childhood on the C64 I were pleasantly surprised to see a more true to the original game which I thought would be a nice HD remake. It even boasts the retro levels. What I found were pleasant enough graphics, and a game which feels more like a 48 hour game jam homage to the sisters than a serious effort. Graphical glitches mar the otherwise nice looking facelift.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a game that at its heart is a shameless Mario rip-off, this is surprisingly good. The artwork and music have a very laid back feel that suits the game perfectly. Unlike many modern platformers it's not out to kill you or delight in your misery. There's a tricky jump here and there, but for the most part the levels aren't that difficult, retries are essentially unlimited, and the secrets not too hard to find. If you're looking for a chill retro-platformer, pick this up on a sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Starting with over 1 bn points because somehow they found out my playtime on Commodore. Nice game! Love the style.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never liked the original Gianas game (The Great Giana Sisters that appeared in 1987). It was extremely poor Super Mario Bros. rip-off with bad level design and nothing really special about it. Aside from how there were sisters instead of brothers. It was one of Armin Gessert’s early games and he really didn’t bother much. It was just a shameless rip-off made by three people. Gamers, who didn’t have the NES back in the days, but had Commodore and Atari computers, liked the game, though, since,…

It might have aged, but it's still an awesome game. Game Description: The Great Giana Sisters was one of the first platformers to be released on the Commodore 64. Although sales were stopped soon after the game’s release, The Great Giana Sisters became a cult classic, and Giana an iconic part of video game history. In 2009, we started a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good news! Those of you who thought Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams/Rise of the Owlverlord had levels much longer than they needed, this game is for you. Bad news! It's a very poor phone port that doesn't do resolution correctly, has a bunch of collision issues, and is actually sort of ugly. It's competent but it's nowhere near as creative as the newer GS titles, this is straight up a throwback to the Commodore era Mario-clone, and includes 32 "retro" levels alongside the main game. (I admit it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I knew this was going to be a Mario clone since I was aware of this series history, and I have played Twisted Dreams before. But I couldn't finish this as I had enough. It wasn't the repetitive boss fight or the awkward power ups or the cheap looking graphics or broken achievements that made me stop. It was the jumping. More specifically, jump underneath a ceiling. During the game you have to make jumps over dangerous pits. For the most part this is fine as most of the levels are open and give…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR, not recommended, its a bad port, and it has pretty noticeable bugs that have gone unfixed for over a decade. If you absolutely want to play this, try to get the DS version instead. Longer version: First, the hitboxes are all wrong. Everything seems to be using oversized/misplaced square hitboxes regardless of the sprite shape itself. Meaning flames, spikes and enemies can kill you without touching you, and any precision platforming sections are ruined by your character bumping into…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →11 years after release and the game is still buggy and many achievements are still broken... yup, I would say it was abandoned a long time ago. Broken achievements really bum me out man!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Think this was made by Black Forest Games? Guess again. it was done by Kasaa Solution, a company that seems to have vanished and subsequently abandoned a half baked port of DS, DS actually looks better and probably plays correctly, this game, was a joke, buggy enemies, buggy level design. Broken achievements, don't know how you can break a simple jump but they managed to do that as well. Get "Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams" and its sequel "Rise of the Owlverlord" instead, which outshines mario…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Giana Sisters 2D is yet another of literally thousands of console ported 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This one is semi-professionally developed, unlike the majority which are amateur/construction kit projects that barely classify as real games, but that doesn't mean this is good. This is console ported from the Nintendo DS (so wtf is this doing on Steam?). Giana Sisters 2D is an unabashed, lazy ripoff of Super Mario…
