You play as a “game detective” investigating crimes inside virtual worlds, which sounds exciting until you realize most of your time is spent interrogating people who speak exclusively in encrypted LinkedIn posts. Every conversation goes something like this: NPC: “But what is identity in a post-human capitalist substrate?” Me: “Sir, I asked where the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 275: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆☆☆ (6/10) Gamedec had me so excited. I love dialogue-heavy RPGs, I love cyberpunk, I love detective work—and for the first couple hours, I genuinely thought this might become a hidden gem. But as the game went on, the cracks widened, and by the time I hit the final chapters, I was just... disappointed. It has heart, great ideas, and strong presentation, but the execution just can’t keep up with the ambition. That…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall the game is kinda alright, but it got rather dull in the second half. The beginning was fun and promising. The locations looked cool, some of the worldbuilding was neat, the skill tree seemed fun. And then the lack of playtesting started to show through. Narration describing what's on screen incorrectly. Random debug lines like DO NOT TRANSLATE or gender variations. More and more conversations not following through with earlier choices or leaning on information you didn't have yet. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good concept with multiple flaws that overshadow it: - The language quality is mediocre to bad. Grammatical errors and typos make the text harder to understand. Formulations are unnatural. - Many, many "riddles" boil down to choosing one of three or four dialogue options without ANY information about which choice is correct. Pure guessing game. - The "profession" system (i.e. tags that unlock dialogue options) is interesting. But: professions need characteristic points to unlock.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Any game that gives me [Shoot the kid] as a dialogue option deserves a thumbs up review.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The final chapters are really bad… completely disconnected from reality. The player has no idea what they’re doing and ends up making random decisions. At that point, I just wanted the game to finally be over. The game abandons its detective-ish roots and spirals into what feels like a nonsensical drug trip.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool concept, but there are just too many instance where you can softlock quests for innocuous reasons like talking to an NPC more than twice or doing 1 thing before doing another. I don't necessarily need handholding, but I find I want to take a specific path and then run around stuck for 20 minutes with no one talking to me or responding to me is making me lose my enjoyment of the game. A lot of the fixes from devs chatting in the forums end up being "lose some progress and go back several…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The pixels are cold while the testimony is hot. What remains is not right or wrong but the weight of decisions.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm really torn on weather to give this a thumbs up or thumbs down. I really liked it for the most part. I played it to the end, and then even reloaded a save from about half way through and replayed the last half to see what differences there were with different decisions. I though the graphics were excellent, I enjoyed the story, the premise was super cool. I loved the idea of going through multiple different virtual worlds, each with their own rules (even if they were a bit underwhelming). I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did a single case, but quite frankly, that was enough for me. This game tries to blend RPG mechanics with a dialog-heavy puzzle/detective game. I say tries because the systems feel extremelly under-developed and even at odds at times. Unlike in a traditional RPG, you really arent given a good "choice" to roleplay a specific type of character, some skills are just plainly better than others, the RPG system especially falls apart since some skills then offer the ability to gain more skill…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Light recommend. It's a really solid idea and the heavy Polish elements on slang is a nice touch but the story line is choppy. The ideas are good but the way they're presented can sometimes be rough. For example when you arrive to a murder scene there is like one dialogue pop up "Oh, X has been murdered" and then you can just start talking to any rando about it before ever getting the full details by actually looking at the body/talking to cops on scene. This creates a bumpy narrative I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has some things going for it but crucial story choices drag it back. The premise is very interesting. In the Cyberpunk future with full-dive video games and virtual reality, people spend more time in virtual worlds than the real one. You work as a Game Detective (see title of game) who investigates bugs, glitches, and cybercrime that takes place inside the video game realms of the world. You're basically a netrunner but instead of stealing stuff you solve crimes. The basic…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gamedec is a great game for 75% of the playtime. The art is wonderful, there are some recurring characters that give a sense of progress, the world building is pretty good, there is some individualizing of your character that gives a good sense of identity, and the noir take on virtual worlds works well...until the end sequence. Once the endgame commences it's like you're playing an entirely different game. There is a "twist" that if you just think about the premise and ask what the most…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Here's what you need to know about the game in the simplest terms: Do you enjoy text-based rpgs with a mystery/detective slant where you have to go with your gut or deduction at times? Are you OK with a little bit of jank but no gamebreaking bugs (and nothing anyone used to an oldstyle point and click won't have experienced multiple times and know how to click their way out of)? Are you ok paying the price for likely no more than 12 hours of gameplay (I'm a slow player so it might be 8-10…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On paper this game looks interesting, but how it executes design decisions is a series of swings and misses on many levels. I played through the first 3 puzzles and by that third one I knew this game was not worth the bother. I rarely if ever give negative reviews, this might be my first one -- 3/10. :( Pros: - There are 4 types of skill points earned through gameplay, conversations, etc that can be used to unlock skills. The skill tree itself makes intuitive sense and planning out what…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did not find it enjoyable, mostly because I have to break my word and betray some of my clients in order for the story to progress. Screw that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a weird game. The premise of investigating real crimes being committed in VR MMOs is cool, but this game is way too rigid to allow that idea to happen. I've played my fair share of East Euro jank, many 00's and early 10's titles badly translated by the one guy in the office who knew a bit of English. This feels like that. Flowery dialog, musings on humanity, too many allegories. I don't care if the teen cosplaying a hobo gets off on it or his reasons. I want information on the case. You…

unlabelledView post →I get it. It’s fitting that this game was based off a series of short stories, because like a good book sometimes reads, I needed a few replays to really appreciate the game. Yes, it is jargon-y. But after a few plays, the jargon became second nature. I found it immersive. Keeping the codec focused on excerpts of primary sources rather than straightforward definitions did make understanding things difficult… at first. But once again, by the third playthrough I was more able to appreciate the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gamedec – Definitive Edition is a distinctive detective-focused RPG that trades combat and traditional action for deep investigation, branching choices, and richly imagined world-building. Developed by Anshar Studios and published by Anshar Publishing, the game places you in 22nd-century Warsaw City, where society escapes its problems through “Virtualiums”—vast virtual worlds that simulate anything from idyllic farms to violent cyber arenas. As a “gamedec,” a game detective who solves crimes…

unlabelledView post →Big disappointment. The first half of the game really pulled me in, but then the plot takes a huge turn using a definitely overused trope. After that, gameplay becomes 100% on rails and it stops being a detective game altogether.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was not sure if I wanted to recommend this game and hesitated a lot, because *some* aspects of the gameplay and about the ending annoyed me, but ... a) the "DLC" extra story (included in this edition) got me "in the feels" (touched me), b) the game concepts and ambiance are well done (!), and c) it is the first game Anshar Studios has done as such (they have helped many studios, even Larian, but Gamedec is their first actual game under their name). What annoyed me ... - The dialog choices…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was hoping for a more interesting detective game but this is a lot more talking and "filling up a meter during conversations" and less figuring something out. Really dissapointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GREAT IDEA, BAD EXECUTION Gamedec is an RPG (or rather an Adventure Game), where you're playing the role of a detective who investigates crimes inside virtual reality games. There's barely any action here - just walk and talk, with some rare "mini-games" in between. I would compare it to Disco Elysium but in a futuristic setting. Unfortunately, quality-wise, Gamedec is a few tiers below Disco Elysium and many other RPGs/adventure games. The story is interesting at first, but the longer you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GameDec - Definite Edition So... after completing the game at 100%, here are my thoughts on it. Style of the Game Although some people would hardly call GameDec an RPG, I think it is, no matter what. It is true tho that it's not in a conventional way, because it's a bit like Disco Elysium - you don't have things like a life bar, nor well-defined stats, a classic level-up system or even battles and such. Everything is basically moving, reading and choosing how you react to what's happening as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gamedec is to cyberpunk video games what “ennemies to lovers, college AU, fluff, 30 000 words” is to fanfiction. Dialogue-heavy with a side of puzzle and rpg mechanics, a pretty shiny city aCtUalLy ravaged by gangs and drugs and -worst of all- video games, big bad evil corporation is big bad and evil, also are you sure you’re not a bad person actually? Gamedec fulfills that entirely predictable brief to a T (except for the few times it lets its rough edges show), so well actually that it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An okay mystery game with a convoluted story. I enjoyed the first two cases, but it went downhill from there. The progression system penalizes you for trying to specialize your personality. I didn't feel like my deductions/decisions mattered that much, or if they did, they did in a way that I couldn't have predicted. Pros: Cool premise, interesting gameplay mechanics with a lot of potential Cons: Story isn't satisfying, disconnect between player's actions and consequences
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a weird game. One of those games where a "meh" button is necessary. Ultimately this is a detective game. the gameplay loop is nice. Find clues, form a deduction. essentially a glorified point and click. But then it starts locking you into this linear story and you can't even slow it down. I arrived in this samurai game world for example and got unceremoniously thrown from it without making a deduction because the story tellers decided it was time and not because I was done. And it's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely cool concept and decent deduction mechanics are ruined by the dullest and laziest writing I've seen in years. Gameplay is barely more interesting than watching the game's loading screens. UPD: I've spent several days trying to play this game because in theory the plot seems rather intriguing, the art is decent even if not very original, and there are plenty of new mechanics introduced in every single mission. But I just couldn't shake off the feeling that every (and I mean EVERY)…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am left flabbergasted at how linear and shoehorned the storytelling is. You can off three guys in once scene, and apparently it is fine, but when you are in a bar and a person is fumbling with a control device to kill all logged players you just stand there like a moron and let her kill them.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Added after completing game. This game is soooo long, and the final battle is ridiclously hard, I mean it, its way too much, and then the final choices after you "win" are worthless. Its not worth completing. Previous review: **I love the game. Its style and unique system are fun. The deduction concept took a bit to get used to using. I did dislike quests being abandoned by surprise without warning when a choice was made that moved you past that "chapter" without realizing it would.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This isometric RPG invites players into a vibrant, cyberpunk world where they take on the role of a private detective in a digital universe. Players navigate various virtual realities, solving mysteries by interacting with NPCs and making choices that significantly impact the narrative. The visual style is distinctive, featuring a colorful and detailed aesthetic that immerses players in the futuristic setting. The storytelling is compelling, exploring themes of identity, morality, and the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Plays like Disco Elysium (minus the semi-open world exploration), feels like Shadowrun. Be prepared to read a lot of text, because clues are almost entirely discovered by making dialogues. Investigating endless loop of a person murdering another person while having sex with her at the same time in a virtual reality video game was never more satisfying. And disturbing. But mostly satisfying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gamedec is a quite intriguing game. It is a tech-noir Cyberpunk story that explores transhumanism. The game is based on the Polish Sci-Fi book series by the same name "Gamedec" by Marcin Przybylek. The author actually worked quite closely with the Polish developers Anshar Studios on the game's writing. Explains the smart Sci-Fi story and lore rich world. (By the way, Anshar Studios devs worked on such games as Baldur's Gate 3, Divinity Original Sin 2 and Observer.) To be honest, for a CRPG,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the first playthrough I got stuck. The second around 3 years later I finished but the ending was a real dissapointment. First two missions are great and exactly what I was expecting, after that we got on a slippery slope, where nothing makes sense and it gets super confusing. I like games where you are trying to figgure out the correct solution. In this game, you are pretty much choosing whatever you like and the game says "yeah sure absolutely". The first two missions are a detective…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good concept, promising beginning, but the game doesn't quite stick the landing. The beginning cases are interesting, and the idea of cyberpunk detectives is amazing. Unfortunately, the story becomes increasingly unclear and convoluted toward the end, making it hard to follow and stay invested. The game is also very text-heavy, and the lack of voice acting really hurts immersion and pacing. More voiced dialogue and clearer storytelling would have gone a long way. Worth checking out if you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After finally beating this game after a long break, here are my thoughts. The different options for skill tree's are rather superficial, and since their growth is tied to "unclear dialogue" you can't necessarily choose the path you would prefer without save scumming. It also means that if you wanted to "roleplay" into something, you could get totally screwed up skill tree's. This progression tied to "social responses" was really weird and honestly would have been better scrapped. The "play"…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall I recommend this game. IF on sale, then its a no-brainer to pick up. It doesn’t take more than like 10-15 hours to smash through if you are like me and will save scum your way trying to optimally solve things and fix oopsies. Otherwise, it can probably be wrapped up in a couple hours. Cons: The save system. Not nearly enough autosaves and there is a single quicksave slot instead of a rotation of 5-10 which is quite honestly desirable in a game like this. Text and voice were desynched.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The idea is original. A 'Disco Elysium' type of CPRG with an interesting premise. But the gameplay is quite boring, you often need to walk everywhere to talk to npcs you already talked and the quest solutions are not always very logical. It is not terrible, but it was not really fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll give this another go if there is ever a feature added that gives an option to remove the EXTREMELY overdone chromatic aberration and post processing that makes the game look like it's being viewed through a Vaseline smeared, out-of-focus lens. I don't know what it is about chromatic aberration, but so many developers go WAY overboard with it and this is probably the most egregious example I've ever encountered.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend, but with caution. Story is a lot of fun, and engaging. I think it could just use some work on the mechanics side with certain quests, and with explaining the mechanics. Towards the end of this game, it's felt very clunky. Sometimes it appears that several paths forward can blocked from one dialogue option, or if you don't have the right 'profession'. I love the idea that professions, and aspects to your personality can guide your path forward, but when it feels like you aren't able…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played it in 2023 while I was drunk and ended up refunding it apparently. Then I tried it again yesterday and was absolutely hooked. Terrific writing, an expanding and deep lore, unique settings and branching paths as well as some light satirical comedy from time to time (although a few occasions it’s a little cringey) all in all I’d give this an 8/10. Well worth the asking price or to get on sale. They did a fantastic job, if you like Baldies Gate or Wasteland; you’ll dig this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Made a character focused on spontaneity. Then spent the first two hours wandering around my apartment, listening to music, examining the couch and trying to make it through all of the messages on the answering machine. 10/10 would turn into a a couch gremlin while the quest icon insists I get a new job again! Past the refund window so i suppose I should go see about that new job.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →is a pretty short and quite fun game. For the first half especially - the concept is awesome, the games within games idea and metagaming within the game is quite cool. First half of the game is balanced in terms of fun and "too much info" content. After half the game it kinda becomes frustrating more and more. It feels as if no matter what I deduce in the game, it does not matter -- the plot will roll as it rolls, even if I will deduce the moon is made out of blue cheese (and sometimes you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game should be studied by most developers and publishers on how not to mess up your game end. This is/was a awesome game, such an awesome great story (before the end), great game unique mechanics, stunning art style, a style that I love so much (even getting a little Syndicate 1993 DOS game vibe), great voice acting, just a 90%+ game in my judgement, a solid effort very sadly ruined by it's ending. It ask the player to invest hours upon hours of game play, teaching you that every choice…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a propaganda piece made by the woke. It's so cheap that they didn't even bother to hire actors to voice characters in game. But instead everything is just text dialog. Not only that, the woke madness has infested this game to the level where they're also adding in the "he/him" & "she/her" crap into this game. 0/10. Hello Feanen_AP; I'm sorry that you don't know how reality works. I hope one day your studio learns how it does & make games that fit how genders are described as, as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely loved this game so far, which means made it to 100% Chievos already but deffo coming back for mor (which is rare) to do 1 more run AT LEAST(!) , just because of the fact that every char you play completey alters your paths, and there´s lots of FREE dlc which will most usually alter your playthroughs completely.. or granting totally new Missions at all.. One of the very FEW games i came along in gaming-history asking the "right" Questions afterall, which may make you feel…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great isometric RPG with a Cyberpunk theme. There is not fighting system, you mostly "talk" you way through things and you have different options to solve problems. It is also not too long, yet a very enjoyable experience in my opinion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is probably the first time I'm writing a negative review, even though it's not exactly a BAD game. It did leave me with a bad aftertaste though. The premise is interesting and the setting quite unique, it was close to being good, but: - the game is buggy. By the end it will tell you you did something, even though you took great care NOT to do it, preventing you from getting certain endings. There is even dialogue throughout that contradict your decisions. - the dialogue is very…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The skill tree is pretty short, but in a good way, it was a good pace between unlocking skills and how that affects your decision options. But the story is a huge let down, stale plot twists, amateur writing, which was disappointing for a detective game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really enjoyed this one. I was initially sold on a Disco Elysium comparison and while it's definitely a more dumbed down version of that, it's still a meaty story and will feel pretty familiar for Disco fans. Highly recommended. Pros: - stunning scenery. Some of the best I've looked at in ages. Just taking in these areas is worth price of admission IMO. - a game of choice where it actually feels like choice matters. I regret my failures and many decisions and could feel their impact at…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A solid RPG, though if you want to get every profession, be ready to approach every conversation as a point grinding event and not from roleplaying perspective. If you enjoy a game with a LOT of dialogue and no combat, like Disco Elysium, then definitely check it out. It might not be on the same level, but quite enjoyable nonetheless.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks great, good controls, nice idea, generally. But... I am bored and just not really interested. And I am bad at the game. First mission and I already feel like I just don't get adventures. Talk to people, select the right dialog choice and progress, wrong choice and get stuck. Or so. Not sure. Played for 3 hours and I think there is a good game somewhere, I am just currently too bored to play it. So... I can't recommend it. Which is kind of stupid because I somehow feel I am just not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I should be the perfect target audience for this, but somehow I tried to get into the game several times, but well.. it just didn’t click with me at all. Meh.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a true gem of a game! I love the graphics, the story, the game mechanics, everything! Uncovering mysteries and experiencing the different worlds is extremely fun and engaging 10/10 would recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm impressed. The game offers a lot in terms of alternative ways to approach problems. I like that!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not for me. I think having the game start with the first case being such intense and disturbing subject matter right off the bat, but in a setting where "It's okay because its just a game so it's not that bad!" felt a little distasteful. I am more sensitive than most to this sort of stuff though so your mileage may vary but I found it to be triggering to me and upsetting. Game-play seemed okay in Visual Novel/Narrative RPG style but I couldn't get past my own discomfort. I feel like they should…
