What people are saying
Mixed reactions: praised for art style but criticized for repetitive, shallow gameplay.
Many players praise the game's unique and trippy art style, with one calling it 'absolutely awesome' and another noting 'a cool old school Rob Zombie ish kinda art style.' However, the gameplay is widely criticized as repetitive and boring, with one player saying 'the gameplay is just too repetitive and boring' and another calling it 'a glorified Flash game.' [2][15][29][24]
The difficulty and boss fights are divisive: some find them fun and challenging, while others call them frustrating and not fun. One player says 'the bosses are not fun,' while another enjoys the challenge, stating 'it's not impossible.' The game's progression system is also criticized for forcing repetition, with one player noting 'you need to level up your car to win' and another saying 'repetition is a little too forced.' 59 of 59 · most liked firstThe negative reviews I've read for Funtasia are very accurate. Given the game's battery mechanic Funtasia is a runner with different stages having different vehicles to navigate varying terrain, think 2d Spintires which sounds really cool. Vehicle performance is completely neutered from the start making the game play to upgrade and then play to win. The visuals are awesome but I found the game-play annoying and not like other games in the runner genre but uniquely annoying. There are some…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hill Climb Racing on drugs where you also fight bosses. The graphics burned my retinas but I still had fun playing this game and defeated all the bosses, even though the game gets repetitive quite quickly. It just sucks that one of the achievements doesn't work so you can't get 100% completion without cheating :/
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is this game fun? Sure. Kind of. Do I regret buying it? No, not really. Will I ever play it more than 10 minutes again? Probably not. You need to level up your car to win. So every level you start you're gonna fail. Earn xp. Level up your car. Repeat til you win. Repetition is a little too forced for me to recommend this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it for the artstyle which is really nice and unique. I cannot really recommend the gameplay. You screw up once, have to take your time to get going again but cannot realistically reach the next battery you need to keep going. A hard difficulty and a constant "Oh, I guess I will not make it, we will see in 5-10 seconds." over and over again (accumulating to I guess hours over the whole story mode of this game) would maybe even be acceptable IF the driving itself, which is this game's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty nice and funny game. The illustrations are absolutely awesome. Cars, levels and bosses are greatly designed and funny to play. The game is not that difficult but it is well balanced and push you to play again to max out every car. I'm really enjoing it. Great work Fantastico Studio
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This feels like a glorified Flash game. The gameplay is beyond simple, to the point where you only occasionally need to let go of accelerate or hit any other button, but you'll still have to repeat each level many times to upgrade your car enough that it's physically possible. The only reason I'm not seeking a refund is because I got it as part of a bundle.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally a nice Hill Climb style game! I love this genre, there aren't any good ones on Steam! Upgrades progression looks good so far. Online tournaments are so crazy!!! Haven't tried the local co-op, but it looks fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is extremely dissapointing. I got this for 3 bucks in a bundle and it was still too much. Funtasia is trying to be a Hill-climb type game reminiscent of the old flash times. It has a very unique visual style that I like but will not be everyones cup of tea. Thats about all the good I can say. The music is decent. Not good, but also won't make you rip your ears off. The gameplay is insanely boring. The whole fun of the hill climb genre was using your suspension to get over obstacles at…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Meh. Super cool artwork, but super lame gameplay. Push 1 button to go, 1 button to stop, 1 button to "balance" (which is almost never needed). Your vehicle is super underpowered. You'll never finish a level on the first try. Drive, collect points, die, upgrade, drive again, get a little further, die again, upgrade, repeat. That's the entire game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →People reviewing this game have clearly never played this type of game before. Akin to classics like Earn to Die, Hill Climb Racing, Learn to Fly, Toss the Turtle, and many more. This game is great if you are looking for something similar, although I did find the regular levels a bit on the easier side. Boss battles are a cool mechanic though, and some are quite challenging. This was a great purchase. Update: Welp, I had to change my review because an Achievement is broken and the dev(s)…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is awesome. Great, disturbing, visuals, cool hill climb gameplay. Highly recommended
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game has amazing art and kinda decent music, but the gameplay is just too repetitive and boring. i bought this game for the 10 for 10 deal and honestly it feels a lot like filler so they could call it 10 for 10. this game has a lot of potencial with the art, when i first saw the game i was quite interested but now playing the game, its too boring for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's clear that a great deal of effort went into the the development of this game. I was disappointed overall though, and for a few reasons. Firstly, I wasn't sure during the entirety of my one-time hour-long playthrough if the game was designed for children or for adults (because it doesn't seem to fir in to either category). Secondly, why only one type of car per track? And thirdly, I'm not a fan of boss battles in a driving game...the dynamics behind having a boss at the end of each course…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Insanely difficult, probably the most difficult game I've played since Sekiro. Tons of fun, though. 10/10 game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this art style. The courses are very simple, jump over hills and don't get hit by obstacles, upgrade your car, reach the finish line and unlock the boss. The boss chases you on a different course than the one before, but it's the same car and background. I thought it was tiresome at first, like it would take forever, it's actually fairly tuned and didn't have any trouble besides my own whining. I'm on a second run, or starting over. It's meditative, I like how I can turn off my brain and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Aesthetically and visually, Funtasia oozes a unique style and this solely carries the game - because the gameplay doesn't. Genre wise it's a hill climb game akin to Earn to Die, but with a very shallow experience. You move right, while a progress bar diminishes as you move. Irrespective of whether you do it fast, or slow, it just does - basically a timer disguised as fuel/battery. There are no attacks, just the occasional jump. Each level sees you drive a unique vehicle that handles slightly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute artwork but the levels lack depth. Boss fights can be a major PITA. They seem to randomly change timing to brick your runs. Rewards for stage completion is completely useless as you swap out of that vehicle for the next stage... Needs cross-level progression or even a mount trophy of the boss heads you've beaten. Glad to get it cheap via fanatical bundle.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the bosses are not fun
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rating 8/10 Intro If you liked Hero Express, which is Fantastico Studio's previous racing game, you'll like Funtasia too. Since, this is a spiritual successor to that. Like that game, you drive as far possible, run out of fuel/die, upgrade and repeat. But, what differs this from Hero Express and most other Earn To Die Clones, is that you also take part in boss fights. There may be some trial and error required to defeat them, but they're a worthy addition. The only thing holding this back, is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very trippy, many drugs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little game for a few evenings, with its nice art style, music and chill gameplay
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Funtasia is a mobile app-like 2D retro physics puzzle racing game where you have to drive as far as you can with a dodgy 2D physics car, collecting fuel until your power runs out. This looks a lot like it's a heavily reskinned Unity asset store asset (Truck Physics Template by HitCode), but with a bunch of art school dropout "trippy" artwork slapped on it. If this is based on the template, it's modified heavily enough that it's not a pure asset flip (given how much custom, albeit bad, artwork…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It gets a lot of hate for a game that's actually pretty decent. I can only speak to the single player campaign however. I didn't realise it was like Hill Climb Racing, but that was really nice actually. I think it was about the right length as well, having completed it over the course of a few days. Really not hard like some people are saying. With decent driving you get through each course in about 3 tries and then the boss takes maybe 2 or 3 tries. Speaking of, the bosses are well-designed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is Funtasia, the worst game I own. I bought it because I liked the cover art.
unlabelledView post →I can't recommend this game. Artistically they have put a ton of effort into it, but the gameplay just isn't fun. I have played through half of it before my save files were deleted. I have to say that the potential of this game is incredible. The levels and the bosses are interesting but not consistent, some of them require to get full upgrades and that can be tedious. The pick-ups are mostly useless. There's an idea but it looks like they ran out of time to develop it into fun stuff. If it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Hill Climb Racing style game with a kind of LSD and kustom kulture/rat fink - esque aesthetic and boss fights (more like boss escaping). I used to see graffiti that had this style when I was a child in urban areas, so even though I generally don't like graffiti it gives me a weird sense of nostalgia. I simultaneously like and dislike the graffiti I see in some alleyways. It looks very weird but at the same time it has a cool vibe. I was not sure whether to recommend this, because there…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't take drugs kids M'kay. Think the team to who did this were stoned 99% of the time but it was fun for the 5 hours it lasted to also get 100%.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Funtasia developed by Fantastico Studio and published by indie.io is a colorful and unconventional take on the racing genre, blending side-scrolling platforming with physics-driven mechanics to create an experience that is equal parts playful and demanding. Set in a surreal world threatened by toxic pollution falling from the sky, the game frames its action around a cast of eccentric racers navigating hazardous landscapes in an effort to restore balance. The premise is lighthearted and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Go play happy wheels instead Art direction is good, but there's not a lot to keep you playing after the first few levels
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is simply the worst game I have played in awhile. The colors are a mess to look at, holding A is boring and quiet honestly not being able to take your upgrades between levels is also stupid.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I get the hate i guess but me and my son love this game, it's gotta cool old school Rob Zombie ish kinda art style and if you know you gotta slowly upgrade and get further each time till you get to the end and with endless continues it's never impossible to after a few tries to learn each boss's pattern and landscape to overcome, it does require perserverance but we had a blast, i will admit the original game HERO EXPRESS is as just as fun and less aggrevating if you find this a tad overbearing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow this game is kinda lame. My eleven year old played it for 15min and then said she was bored and wanted to do something else. I wouldn't spend money on this game. I don't remember buying it, it was just in my library one day.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the wacky graphics, but that's all. It is a vehicle platform runner where you have to keep up momentum. It is best suited for mobile because every level has a different car that you need to upgrade with a painfully slow grind. The whole game is built for grinding.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a stylish Earn to Die game. Get it when 80% off. Some stages are significantly harder because you cannot outrun the boss.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →@fantasticostudio.bsky.social Can you make your game called Funtasia available for Android?
unlabelledView post →I like this game a lot for what it is: Just a fun game that you want to keep playing for a while. There are a lot of mentions that the bosses are too hard. Yes, they're hard. But you only have to defeat them once and it's not impossible. There were some issues with achievements not unlocking, but the devs solved this now. Now it's time for JUST ONE MORE TRY.... :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good and not too easy
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →funtasia has incredibly simplistic gameplay. you play the levels, each having their own currency that you use to upgrade your vehicle, then beat the boss at the end of the level. its not my type of game, so i found it incredibly boring. i think the game's artstyle is really interesting. theres a lot of color and the characters are all very stylized. the designs of all the characters are very eyecatching. however, the actual game is pretty miserable. traversing through levels is a bit janky,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ive played 20 hours of there first game on switch, its the same with different visuals. Still, the biggest crime is that gas/ batteries have no meaning. They are a "More Time!" pick up. Part of the fun of these games, is carefully using gas/ acceleration. Here, it does not matter. 3USD is fine. Maybe 5usd if you played similar flash games in highschool.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a gorgeous art style and great soundtrack but the game play is poorly executed unfortunately. I think the game overall is mediocre at best.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i actually want to hang myself after playing this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I leave a positive review for two reasons: 1 It was kinda fun 2 I bought it alongside two other games that interested me and other seven random games in a 10 games for ten bucks offer That said it would have been really fun if it wasn't so broken (achievements not working aside), in no fun ways unfortunately, and above all so uselessly repetitive and boring. I get powering up the vehicles, and I love grinding, but it would have been acceptable if it wasn't that much or in alternative having a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fix ur game, achievements error
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/PAteUXwxQ5g Progression mechanics are as unbalanced as the intentionally spongy vehicles leaving players unsure if forward progress will be made with any decision they make.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a pleasent surprise to a well stablished genre. You basically overcome obstacles in the road by collecting points and upgrading your car improving overall physics and car response, once you clear the track you must kill the boss, that alone have different mechanics between then. Simple but interesting mechanics and awesome soundtrack.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple, fun, great graphics and a cool soundtrack makes this a perfect seam deck game for a quick five minute session.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a cute game. Neat graphics. Gameplay is obviously pretty similar level to level. Sadly there is a bug preventing the Steam Achievement from triggering on one or two levels.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get it only while on a deep discount, mostly for the art-style used to be honest. The game is pretty simple (3 buttons with few options and upgrades) and the boss "fights" could become really difficult and frustrating.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game with a great artstyle and some very hard bosses. The Nosferatown achievement appears to be bugged though, which is a shame. Still, if you're into hillclimb style games you'll probably like this
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i would recommended as i like this game a lot but there is an achievement that is glitched and the developer knows it is an issue and said they would fix it almost a year ago now if they ever do i will give it a positive. EDIT: Dev fixed the glitched achievement.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bosses are very hard but I love the colors and theme of this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Besides the glitched achievement that won’t allow me to 100% this game, it was well worth every penny.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok casual game for when you're listening to something else.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →short but goooood
