This is a polished Viking-era RTS game that feels like a modern, much more feature-rich version of Northgard. It has a similar mechanic, with the fog of war obscuring most of the map, and as you explore you have interesting encounters and of course your AI adversaries to deal with. The game is different from Northgard in several key ways, in that you don't have predefined areas to take over, you can build wherever you like. There is also an interesting water/ship mechanic. The graphics are…

The game is fun and interesting. However the resource management needs some work. You run out of wood(s) very fast and it stops you in your tracks. All form of resources should have even the slightest version of unlimited resources available to prevent things like this. So in a small way also includes stone. Combat is fun, graphically looks good. Sea battles are a hit and miss. I can't recomend the current version thought before the mentioned points have been addressed.

After ~3 hours of the campaign and without touching multiplayer/pvp, so far I'd say: It's...ok. This is one of those games that I wish there was a 3rd option instead of just a thumbs up or thumbs down. It's not that there are any huge problems or issues I had with the game. It's just fairly...basic. I'd probably give it 6/10. Not a lot of unit types, not a lot of building types. It definitely leans HEAVILY towards RTS in terms of genre, as the management/sim side of things is barely there.…

Frozenheim Not what I was expecting and not what I wanted. What I was expecting by the description and tags was a city building game with strong economic factors, resource management and some combat. What I've played is a low-rent Age of Empires-style game where resources are depleted in the blink of an eye, combat is so fast as to be devoid of any strategy with simple, uninspired building mechanics. Oh, and let's add in scripted campaign mechanics that wipe out your hard-earned progress with…

even though im enjoying Frozenheim the game just doesn't offer much for replayability. MAPS: the game is very limited for maps, having only one 8 player map. there is generated maps you can make but even with bodys of water the AI will never build a shipyard, this makes sailing a pointless feature in the game and a waste of resources. basically the game begs you to never build a shipyard. Even on maps with a body of water once again everything is always connected by land so it is as said,…

Game has bugs that haven't been addressed in a long time. Pathing of the units have been brought to the developers' attention multiple times. Right click stops working mid game, for example, I clear a bandit camp, right click on it to search it - nothing happens, or right click on a runestone to claim it - nothing happens, right click on a village to get a quest -nothing happens, the only way to fix it is to reload the save file. Second campaign (Kairven), first mission, one of the tasks is…

If you subscribe to the Broodwar school of "great gameplay is clicking 200 times to move a few units up a ramp" then this is the game for you. It's at the same time a boring city builder and an infuriating RTS. Enjoy!

I found Frozenheim accidentally while browsing the store, I liked how it looked like and added it to my Wishlist. Some time later I bought it at a 75 % discount, basically almost for free. I got familiar with the gameplay by playing through the campaign and ended up liking the game. I wouldn't like to try to compare it to other RTS games as it's unique because of its Viking setting. The campaign took me ~27 hours to beat (obtaining all 10 achievements) and it has some unique fun missions. But…

It would be a good game if it wasn't flooded with bugs and glitches of all sorts. Naval units movement and combat is difficult to handle, due to boats lagging to respond and often ignoring orders. Land units can suffer the same but much less. Building placement can also be problematic. Basically what happens is that you see the location for building as suitable (white shadow instead of red), click it and the building menu disappears with nothing being built. Some buildings are more affected…

So this is similar to Northgard, it feels more immersive and customizable. However, this game feels incomplete. There is definitely promise with a little more refining. For $6 it's 100% worth it. I wouldn't pay more than $10.

I'm having an extremely hard time with this one. I really want to give the game a thumbs up, but it has too many bugs. Great potential, but too many "small" issues. In all I'd have to give it a 5/10 Devs should fix bugs and id give 10/10 easy. By the second campaign mission i started to see the issues hardcore. Pros: Fast paced game play, ability to build anywhere within your settlement, user friendly, easy to learn. Cons: healer huts don't always heal, units AI seems unfinished (they circle…

8/10: Age of Empires in the snow. What a breath of fresh air. A slower, more methodical approach to the classic Real-Time Strategy genre. I guess it's technically an "indie" title, but it didn't feel that way. This was a cut above the standard indie. This is 'A' quality. Classic building mechanics, different resource types to collect, fun battles, secondary abilities, heroes and research and a decent story. It's got all the classic elements of RTS we all remember and love. This is…

Mixed Feelings – Interesting Idea, Frustrating Campaign in Short go and play Northgard instead. I only played the campaign, so I can't comment on the PvP or clan-vs-clan gameplay. The campaign itself is heavily scripted, leaving very little room for player agency. Most scenarios are completely linear, and even when the game presents what looks like a meaningful choice, the outcome doesn't seem to change. The missions often feel like you're following a predefined script rather than influencing…

Frozenheim looks very pretty in the pictures, that atmosphere and graphics are something you would crave in a RTS like this. I would very much like this game to be great, but sadly no. There is just not enough variety of gameplay, the first introductory campaign is the worst, every mission is the same, build you base the same way and send units somewhere. Later campaigns offer some variety but I feel it is too late. The four clans are not varied enough, just some bonuses, otherwise the same…

Welcome to Aliens dark descent but in the form of Vikings probably the most insulting thing to do towards a once great nation of warriors. Oh you can't upgrade your Jarl hut unless people are "happy" when historically speaking happiness had no impact on things being built they built regardless of happiness because it was essential or important not based on happiness of your people. Balancing is all over the place. Missions swing wildly between too easy and artificially brutal, with forced high difficulty that leaves no room to actually strategize. Or even playable for a wide audience! Clans feel a simply copy paste. Heroes have quite some over powering abilites. Resource gathering—especially wood—creates an awful bottleneck. Trees are stripped instantly, and the slow regrowth rate completely halts game pacing. Frozenheim has a lot of potential, but the frustrating…

The gameplay is good, but I hate this idea that the netflix/history channel strong-wahmans capesh*t is so heavily infested in these Norse genres. Women were literal currency and productive means in a cold, harsh world (that's what a viking raid happened to produce and it's why the Northern Europeans had the healthiest stock of people in recorded history) and were in a completely separate societal hemisphere than males; It seems in order for any game or show to survive nowadays, the knee must be…

The interface is kinda clunky, army controls are very rudimentary. Basically go there and fight, no tactics, no formation. No way of telling shieldbearers to stay in front and axemen to attack from behind a shieldwall. Despite this, the first mini-campaign is even fun, so if you can get this game at max 5 euro, go for it. But the 'Raven' mini-campaign is a total joke. All in all, I'm disappointed and would probably not buy it at the price I got this (nearly 10 euro, I believe).

To be perfectly honest, I really want to like Frozenheim. It is made by a small team of developers, it is an RTS and uses the Norse theme, which I am a fan of. However, the lack of a proper development and creative team are huge issues for this title - Fronzeheim plays more like an extended tech demo than a full game. First of all, as an avid Northgard player, it is hard not to see the similarities... or the rip-offs. Not only are the buildings close to being identical, but so are some of the…

After my playtime I looked up if this game got any better and found out it doesn't. There's a lack of buildings and zero resource complexity. Maybe it's more intense on higher difficulties when you need to pump out soldiers but that's any RTS. The units are so tiny you can hardly seem them so it feels like there's no unit diversity. People recommended it to me as a city building game and it is super boring in that regard. The buildings are ugly and don't feel satisfying to assemble.

I love the graphics and building design, however the game is too easy. Even doing 1 v 7 AI on hard difficulty takes 1 hour to get to a defensive position and from there you can generate enough resources to never have to expand with outposts and conduct raids periodically. Eventually the AI stops attacking you as they keep most of their troops protecting their base because they have run out of resources to make more troops.

Its an ok-ish city builder strategy game, but it feels very one dimensional. The UI has a lot of bugs, armies don't like moving long distances and will just stay put, productions buildings don't find new targets even when set to automate. Could be a decent game with some fixes, but stopped at mission 3 when it was clear I would get more annoyed with the UI as the missions got harder.

Frozenheim is a decent enough RTS/Base management strategy game, but it lacks depth and the naval combat feels like rolling the dice. Essential resources like wood, stone and bog iron are finite, so can run out during the course of play (Forests can be replenished for more wood though), which can bring gameplay to a halt when trying to progress.
