unlabelledView post →Japanese filmmaking legend Akira Kurosawa was a big influence. The Hidden Fortress is a film about rescuing a princess, told from the point of view of two peasants. Lucas changed peasants to droids, and started the story in Star Wars from their perspective. 10/37

unlabelledView post →Ok enough time has passed. What do you all think of the 1977 art house classic STAR WARS? It’s a niche science fiction fantasy that is largely a riff of Flash Gordon and Akira Kurosawa's 1958 film The Hidden Fortress. It did ok at the box office and won a few awards.
unlabelledView post →Saw the Hidden Fortress. Pretty great. Most people only know it as “The Movie that influenced Star Wars,” which is a tad unfortunate. Because it is a really cool movie that deserves to be recognized on its own merits.
