27 of 27 · most liked firstThere is a lot to like on the whole, but I despise two aspects of the game. I. Having to rebuild all the components/upgrades during every run is cumbersome and very much not fun. It was fun maybe the first 30 times (I'm being generous.), but there reaches a point you don't want to have to harvest and recreate things you've already harvest and created 50 times already. It's a glaring flaw. I understand this is somewhat addressed in Everspace 2. II. Making it to the final boss fight with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At its core, Everspace is a very solid shooter with strong roguelike elements. However, the game does a rather poor job of explaining its core mechanics. You die. You die a lot. And that is entirely intentional. When you look at the screenshots on the store page, you mostly see a space combat shooter - and that’s absolutely true. But here’s the catch: I’ve read many reviews complaining about the roguelike mechanics, and that criticism is understandable. The main goal is to reach Sector 7…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Roguelite I have probably ever played. The only reason the reviews arent great is because the game goes on sale for so cheap that people who dont even like this kind of game will buy it and play it and leave a bad review even though it wasnt made for them. If you like tactical, skill-based roguelikes and space shooters you will love this game, and for $1 its a steal anyways. The graphics are beautiful and it can run on any computer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unbelievably repetitive. I thought I was still doing a tutorial, but nope, apparently that's the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its an ok game, but it has some problems with regards to respect for your time. I'll keep it quick. If you are looking for freelancer, or independence war. It is not here. The gameplay requires a lot of grinding, and the classic "Skill issues" become less important once you have a job and life, and have done the loop of building skills that will get discarded once the game is over. Time is important to me, its probably important to you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everspace is a fantastic game at a great price: It contains elements of exploration, shooting, RPG, and a truly engaging story! You will begin your adventure without knowing anything about your past, completely disoriented, your only reference point being your ship's computer. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3612452997 Your story will be told jump by jump, sector by sector, through excellent cutscenes. The plot is linear but offers some depth. During your journey you will…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good arcade space ship shooter, but the sequel to this is Everspace 2 which contains a vast world and more content to explore overall. The only reason to try this game if you're reading this review as of this date is if you want to try the prequel if you love its sequel. Overall the first installment in the series does not offer much expansion, but it does introduce you to the world of Everspace. The 2 games are graphically similar but gameplay between them is completely different.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don’t why this game’s ratings dropped from positive to mixed while the game didn’t receive any updates in years. Perhaps some people bought it after playing EVERSPACE 2 which is a looter shooter and didn’t know the first game is a rogue-like? EVERSPACE (1) is a rogue-like space shooter where you pick one one of 4 types of spaceships and fight through 6 different sectors. I highly recommend getting Encounters DLC as it adds several new weapon types, 10+ new devices for your ship as well as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had this game for a while, just got a HOTAS so I thought I'd give this a shot. Reviews say HOTAS aiming in this game doesn't work well, that there's a massive deadzone that won't go away regardless of your joystick settings. But this is fixable. Turn off the setting "smooth controller inputs" and suddenly that massive joystick deadzone is *GONE*, sensitive as you could hope for. Very fun game, haven't played much yet but looking forward to getting deeper into it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to enjoy this game, especially since the visuals of space are beautiful and I've played roguelites before like Hades, but at least with that game, it had a lot more story and character development no matter how many times I died and had to start over. Not this game, sure there was a bit of story at the beginning but after a while it just felt bland, going through each sector until I died. All this time I was waiting for some more of the story to kick in and it never did. I…

unlabelledView post →The game is just unfair to you. One moment you're a killing machine, and the next you're destroyed within seconds. Maybe you can't shoot or are doing something wrong? Nope. You elimininated bunch of foes or maybe the tough one, but why should you feel accomplishment? That's right! Have more enemies on your ass(literally, they jump from outside "the room"). Done with them, too? Have some more. Ok, you're dead. Congrats! Time for another run, I guess
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is the most boring game I have ever played. Gameplay: I played 10 games, I did the same boring thing 10 times, this game has 5 minutes of gameplay. The content is ridiculous and the progression seems as boring as the gameplay. I feel like I'm playing an indie game created in 2000. Graphic design: Too old This game is so empty that I have nothing to say after being so bored playing it. If you like Sci-Fi games, come and discover what's available on steam.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boy do I love Everspace, but it hasn't aged well. It came out when Roguelikes were really gaining momentum in gaming culture. And it really did a fantastic job of complete a run, get more upgrades, go in for a better run, repeat. That is the strongest selling point of this game along with the artstyle. The caveats? Boring story and no co-op. Unfortunately Everspace 2 didn't live up to the hype and they changed one of the best mechanics of this game which was the roguelike style. If they…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't buy this at full price, and genuinely give some thought if you're going to buy at a sale. This is a story game that has the story take a backseat to a bunch of tedium. Its story is interesting and has great art! However, you'll run into maybe 5 minutes of story through your hours of playing this game, and all the rest of it is a very middling experience not worth the price-tag and certainly not something a development studio should be proud of or brag about. With the gameplay loop is a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game but still have not fixed the problem of randomly losing your save
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Constantly doing back flips in dog fights.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Die in the tutorial before we expect you to? Enjoy not being told 90% of the systems in the game! Trash.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An hour was more than enough time to discover I don't like being punished for playing. Enemies that never miss and outnumber you 4:1, resource collection that you can never finish before you're either killed or you flee. The graphics are surprisingly good and it played very smoothly. Too bad I never want to spend another minute of my time playing it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →100% Review I bought this game a couple of years ago, played a bit, and then put it aside. Recently I was scrolling through my library, saw it again, and thought: “Why not go for 100% achievements this time?” All excited, I downloaded it and jumped back in… only to find out what this game is really like. What is this game about? As you’ve probably already seen in the store description and tags, it’s a roguelike. Each run starts in Sector 1, with up to five warps in between before you reach…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My main requirement for games is rather simple: Is it fun? I could care less about a story line. I don't give a damn about eye candy. Who cares about a plot? Gimme something to do that is out of the ordinary, or just give me things to blast, and I'm thrilled. This game is fun. I get to blast stuff. It's out of the ordinary.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spawns in second sector. 5 hostile outlaw fighters on me immediately. Barely manage to kill them all. "Try some foresight before getting yourself into those situations!" Ah yes. I now see my error. The lack of forsight.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game if you like agile, fast paced space combat. Flight controls are very smoooth. The game nudges you into making fast (sort of) decisions about resource mining/crafting/enemies to fight, which compliments the combat style. It's a roguelike. Expect to die loads while you get a grasp of the mechanics. Story was okay, but certainly not awful, which is very good considering how many other games make you want to die every time you listen to characters chatter. Many elements of the game…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →decent flight mechanics, but autolocking wallhack aimbot enemies left a very bad taste in my mouth.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7 hours in. This game is fun. I got it cheap. It's very pretty. Combat wise it's very very much like Freelancer. Gameplay wise it is as others have mentioned more like you're playing live action one character FTL. I think I will probably want it to be things it isn't (like Freelancer) but I've been enjoying myself just blowing stuff up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat is really fun, grind is meh, writing is bland Marvel slop, and having to restart your entire run after barely failing a scripted story mission is completely a.ss game design. I don't regret buying this game, there's still lots of fun to be had, but wait for a sale -- or save your money and play the first Colony Wars game on a PlayStation emulator. The flight model is about the same as this game's, but has a greater emphasis on speed and actual dogfighting, and the game itself also has…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is so damn underrated. Never heard of it, but bought because it was dirt cheap. Now im hooked
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I usually don't like Roguelikes because they can be pretty frustrating.. But this one is great - it has decent story, the deaths are part of it, the characters are great and fun (especially Hive and its sarcasm). Moreover, the gameplay feels good and responsive and performance is very good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everspace manages to do Roguelike perfectly for the kids who grew up on the Lucasarts X-Wing or Tie Fighter games; plenty of options to keep things interesting, slow but rewarding progression of ships/builds, and a well-acted and well-written story. More than enough variety in the maps to keep things replayable, fun just dropping in to shoot missiles at space pirates or spending hours sweating through harder runs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I first played this game in early access way back in like 2017. Good grief. I put it down and eventually picked it back up in 2020. And let me tell you, I am so glad I did. I love this game. Every zone is a fun and beautiful place to explore. I love the feeling of solitude I get from each area, where its just me and wherever I choose to zip on over to. The addition of some characters made in the dlc felt...thrown in, but it really worked. It adds some nice side quests outside of farming…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everspace is essentially 3D Faster Than Light. I would say its less difficult/annoying then FTL is but more boring as well. Its not bad necessarily but definitely not great either. +Graphics are nice, controls are easy, sounds are... ok I guess. Mouse and keyboard not only works great but surprisingly its the recommended mode. I expected a flight stick would be recommended instead. +Upgrading your weapons, tools and shields in the run itself and after your run ends using the money you earned…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very unfun roguelike. Don't be fooled.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lotsa 6DOF fun! Thoughtfully made, drenched in eye candy visuals and competent in scratching the right space combat fantasy and rogue-adjacent itches. Created with passion for this concept, accessible and easy to pick up and play, Everspace skillfully balances the line between challenging and overwhelming, even if it’s probably better to start your adventures on the lower difficulty level, to deliver a very enjoyable and inviting gameplay that's sure of itself, doesn't overpromise…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What is the reason of this game? Fly and die? There are no resources to repair the ship, there are no dealer to sell stuff to you. What is the developer trying to tell me? Space sucks?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the most beautifull space roguelites that you will ever see. The audio and visual is top notch with voice acting, decent jokes and an interesting campaign. The gameplay will be hard for some people as you are forced within time frames to explore and destroy before you are caught by the armada that is hunting you. The game is challenging but does have a lot of customisation from weapons, addons, special equipment and the type of ship you are flying. The story is interesting and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worth getting the on discount. If you are expecting a strong narrative, this is not your game. I was expecting something a bit different myself but it fills a good niche in my library. This is essentially a rogue-like space shooter where your goal is to survive through many levels but if you die you start over. If you want something you can play casually at your leisure for some space shooting, this fits the bill. If you want a hero's journey story arc, this is not your game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A perfect game for a person that just wants to pilot a space ship
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On modern Linux does not run. With workarounds it runs and crashes. Option of bundled libraries crashed different way becuase it uses super old libraries.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Score: 3/5 Flashy, but lacks substance and designed around tedium/grinding. Great art style/direction, including projectiles/explosions/combat, ship thrusters/fire. Audio/sfx/music are all great. Pacing is slow, with very little story/setting revealed within an hour of playtime. Gameplay is strongly lacking, but could hypothetically work with more polish and better pacing. The combat is about having high enough numbers, lining your crosshair up with the targeting reticle, and being able to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good FTL experience, especially if you're using HOSAS. It's tough as nails until you learn the ropes. A simple corkscrew maneuver can trivialize most encounters.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great little game, it does exactly what it says on the tin so to speak. Quick to get into but enough going on to keep me interested. It's also value for money, I'm 60 hours in and still learning and seeing new things.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: Super boring, glad I got it on discount so I won't feel too bad about it. Longer review: I have played this developer's previous game, a mobile space action game called Galaxy on Fire. And I'm shocked that years before Everspace and on a cheap Android phone, that game was deeper, more engaging, and nicer to look at than this. I spent 2 hours in Everspace and it was a bit too much. Save your time and your $1 (which is the max you should pay) and get something else. Hopefully Everspace 2…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty cool rogue-like. Looks good, plays well, runs great, kinda hard but fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its hard at the beginning, but once you get the hang of it, its REALLY good. There is RNG but not out of control. Low graphic requirement but looks good in game. Nice story, really enjoyed it. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oculus mode doesn't work. VR waypoints don't work properly unless you do some shenanigans with the resolution. Honestly, I was expecting more for gameplay and graphics too, but it just didn't age well, and doesn't appeal to me in VR.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I figured considering the amount of time I spend in this game I should draw some fanart,,, also I guess it’s about time I start learning to draw spaceships #Everspace #Everspace2 #AdamRoslin
unlabelledView post →I love space and games about it, Everspace looks great. The environment is beautifully made, the battles have been good for a long time, it's a pity there aren't too many aircraft, but the game is just super. The game itself is short, if you don't go too far, it takes a day or two to complete. I recommend it for purchase.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everspace is a fun roguelite space shooter i picked up while trying to fill the void in my heart missing the Galaxy on Fire (2) series. Being made by the same developers, you see how they improved upon that phone game. Small details feel like Galaxy on Fire, which i loved. The more i play through my runs, the more i want to continue another one. It does not fill the void, but it is a good enough distraction.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A rather inoffensive rogue-lite space shooter. Not much content unless you buy the Encounters DLC. It's got a simple premise to go with the simplistic gameplay: you control a clone of some other dude who's slowly remembering who he used to be and what happened to the original. Cutscenes are of the lazy variety, meaning, very blurry concept art stills with cheap effects and terrible static shots of your spacecraft as voiceover clips play. The gameplay itself is, as I said, nothing to write home…
