What people are saying

Deep and rewarding but punishing for new players.

Many players praise EVE Online for its unparalleled depth and complexity, calling it the deepest game they have ever played. They highlight the rewarding experience of mastering its economy and logistics, with some describing it as a second life that provides adrenaline rushes even after thousands of hours. [1][13][15]

However, a significant number of players criticize the game for its steep learning curve and toxic community. They complain about frequent ganking by veteran players, multiboxing, and a lack of support for new players, with some calling the free-to-play model misleading. [7][21][22][23][28][33]

Most toxic community in any online game. 10+ year veterans do everything in their power to ruin the experience of new players out of no reason other than they find enjoyment in killing any growth of a game they have spent thousands of hours in. I posted on an Eve forum recently about my criticisms and experience as a new player, as I understood the game has an incredibly high attrition rate for new players. The result was me getting insulted, made fun of and even being reported to the suicide…

One thing that is fascinating about EVE Online (which I played years back, but have not for a long time) is that the experience of the game is very different depending on if you're in a major 0.0 alliance or not and where in the structure of the 0.0 alliance you are.

And then I just hit a cut scene that I’m like “a WhWHAT the actual FUCK, GAME?!” I feel like Blue Prince is going to be like Eve Online for a lot of people, where you don’t want to deal with the grindy bits personally, but the story is utterly FASCINATING, so you’ll catch a recap and that’s fine.

"Free to Play" is a joke and the player count is completely misleading. I really wanted to give this game a fair shot, but the way it presents itself to new players is just dishonest. Here is what you're actually getting into: 1. The player count in the launcher is a lie When you start the game, the launcher shows 20,000 to 30,000 "online players". What they don't explicitly tell you is that these are logged-in accounts, not real people. EVE heavily encourages multiboxing—running multiple…

Gave it a good college try. Spent over 150+ hours playing. Doing my best to learn. Taking things slow but by god this game is horrible for new players and even worse for new players trying to get into more advanced parts of the game. There is no good website or wiki that can give you straight answers to any questions you might have and any that they do are a roll of the dice as there has been so many changes that they may not apply anymore. Best way to describe EVE: "Legendary Past, Outdated Future." Every gamer knows EVE, has played EVE or had it in their backlog for years if not decades. I stumbled upon the 6 hour long Down the Rabbit Hole video about EVE by Fredrik Knudsen and finally decided to give this game a try. EVE is a triple-A MMO made by Icelandic developers in a different era for a different audience. It is not some poor indie passion project or a modern live-service slop. EVE is old, uncompromising and refuses to…

Let me preface that I've played Eve before +- 13 years ago. I've flown Navy Megathrons, Raven Navy Issues, tried out the planetary industrial part of the game, as well as the hacking 'minigame', scanning/probing, enjoyed drone warfare, skilled into T2 Exploration ships, massively enjoyed the exploration and thrill that came with it back then. It felt great! But hooooly crap, did Eve Online change a lot since then. It seems to be hand-crafted and tailored into a platform that mainly focuses…

Multiboxing is a cancer in this game. Die-hard fanboys, vets, and MULTIBOXERS are a catastrophe for this game (3, 4, 5,+ accounts, fully developed, BLOCK you doing anything meaningful alone in this game, pure bullying...). Do not start playing and wasting your time, especially your money, on this doomed, unfair, developer-money-grab so-called game. Random ganking at any given time & kill on sight unless you join some ancient alliance using thier convoluted websites and application processes. I'm a returning EVE player with 2000+ hours logged that aren't displayed on Steam. Played extensively in 2010-2011, a little in 2016-2017, and recently came back. This game is kind of a joke now. CCP has effectively created a game that caters to the whales to the detriment of the game itself. If they make changes to improve the health of the game, such as banning multi-boxing, they argue it will cause an exodus of players, and it will. I can no longer in good faith recommend wormhole space to anyone seeking enjoyable gameplay. It promises a mysterious frontier of riches and thrilling PvP, yet it's ruled by blowhard multiboxing veterans who treat EVE like a full-time career, running 5-10 accounts with Tripwire maps and premium intel tools to trap and farm noobs like me who just wanted a relaxing scan after work. Casual or solo pilots get podded with zero warning and zero fair fights.

There has been an ongoing joke in EVE since 2003 that “EVE is dying”. Fast forward 23 years later and it’s still not true. Not because EVE is “alive” but because it is straight up dead, figuratively speaking of course. This is where you bust out the EVE offline charts, post PDFs with quarterly earnings, and say I’m wrong. CCP refuses to do anything about it. Game is ruined for normal players when botters ruin the market. They refuse to make the game playable for normal people EDIT The developer response is lying. I have the ISK and the skills to fly almost anything in the game, but I’ve realized there’s absolutely no point. I wanted to play EVE as a true multiplayer game where you manage and interact with real people. Instead, it’s a sandbox for multiboxers. It’s not "Massively Multiplayer" when every "person" you see in a system is just an alt of the guy you’re already talking to. I can say fairly confidently, it is now more than ever not for casual or new players.
