EARTH DEFENSE FORCE: WORLD BROTHERS
Developer YUKE'S
A new EDF adventure begins! Only this time, the action unfolds in a parallel world where the Earth is made of digital blocks. This world has befallen into chaos, as the once peaceful square Earth has been shattered into pieces. Shape aside, it is an Earth nonetheless which needs to be defended. From the Steam store page

unlabelledView post →I think the power of the Earth Defense Force series is that it is the most genuine game series in the history of humanity. If the dialogue says "there's 1,000 ants coming this way" the game stutters for a second as 1,000 ants instantiate. There's no lie in this game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My take on video games with lots of enemies on screen at once is that Earth Defense Force is cool and also more smartly designed than it looks and that you should have to play at least one every year in order to have a license to say "[new, reasonably budgeted Japanese game] is like a PS2 game."

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nobody makes bad games like Earth Defense Force anymore. Developers used to make bespoke game engines for their horrible experiences. There simply is no charm in a bad game if it's made in Unreal Engine or Unity

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has there ever been a series more true to itself than Earth Defense Force. It was born a PS2 game and continues to be one to this very day.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mentioned it before, but The Last Salvage Squad is shaping up to be a very fun little arcade FPS, with a 'What if Earth Defense Force was a Virtual Boy game' aesthetic. A team of giant robot women defend a ruined earth with only one gun. If you die, your next character/life has to recover the gun.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Funny game but unfourtanly British people exist in this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No local co-op is an amazingly bad decision. All the other EDF games have it but you don't include it on the one that is geared towards playing with your kids? Really stupid. Refunding.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since it doesn't have a local multiplayer mode, I hardly played it. It's a shame, because for me edf only becomes a real team experience through couch co-op :/

unlabelledView post →An EDF game made for EDF fans, but a far-flung experience from the other games in the series. World Brothers plays like a LEGO game, sounds like a LEGO game, and is voiced like a LEGO game (with the exception of some "Damnits"). -The gameplay is decently fun, but inferior to EDF5, and has some semi-interesting swap mechanics. -Most of the abilities are pretty underwhelming (with the notable exception of Spritefall), but the weapons stay true to the series. -There are some comedy lines that…

Overall Rating - Exceptional ★★★★★ First Impressions Although it'll look like I'm shouting, I picked up a copy of EARTH DEFENSE FORCE: WORLD BROTHERS (WB) recently. I've played a couple of the EDF games, and until this one was released, Iron Rain seemed to be the biggest deviance from the formula. WB makes significant…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a stopgap between other EDF games, but it's missing two key things for me. NO SPLITSCREEN for local coop. I play this series together with my gf and it was disappointing that they only support splitscreen on PS4, which they don't specify in their marketing. The other element is a little less tangible, it's missing the EDF soul. It's a fine game and better voice acting than the main series, but it's missing that element that makes it feel like an EDF title rather than just another hoard…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the lack of local CO-OP Killed this game for me, as i wanted to play it with my young boys.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played it for like a few days, never touched it again, game felt lackluster and clunky. It looks cool and fun but once ur in it the game gets boring and repetitive really quick, wish i could return and get my money back but I just completely forgot about this game cause i just didnt have the excitement to get back on to play, would not recommend.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Aggressively mediocre, but my expectations left me feeling disappointed. Given the silly nature of ordinary edf I thought this was going to be an over the top cartoonish remake of the game. Instead this is sort of like diet EDF. There are fewer enemies per map and the weapons are less crazy. Given the voxel graphics I thought they were freeing up resources for greater environmental destruction with even more and crazier enemies, but no, Playing this game feels like driving with the emergency…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You might think there's a redeeming factor in Earth Defense Force 6 despite it being a bad game, but it being bad is part of the draw, and it is bad in so many ways that will surprise you. Genuinely a game that would've lived on the 360, released in 2024 for 60 of god's own dollars

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You need an Epic Games account for online play in Earth Defense Force 6 on Steam, and fans are reviewbombing the game. This requirement was also not made clear before launch. EDF6 devs are looking into making some changes.
unlabelledView post →It's a different kind of EDF experience than the mainline EDF games and even the other spinoffs. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and while the near constant 4th wall breaking dialogue can get a little annoying (though, sometimes it's funny, but not in the normal EDF way), the game can be fun if you can figure out how to have fun with it. That being said, I can't recommend this game, because the PC version lacks splitscreen. Instead of basing this version in the superior PS4 code, which…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For fans of EDF this is a great game! Worth 60$? I absolutely think so. For newcomers, this is a great place to start as well. The game makes a lot of great QOL changes to the formula that Sandlot should absolutely adopt. However, it can fall into the same trap as all other EDF games once you try to get to higher difficulties at times. You either have to grind a mind numbingly large amount of time to get better weapons and armor. (In this game mostly armor since Yukes sees the obviously…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I spent all evening finishing Star Fox Assualt. A game that is Earth Defense Force, Panzer Dragoon Oorta, Sin And Punishment, and maybe a few others in there. The last third of the game is a pretty long slog with overly big levels. and the final level is super hard.
unlabelledView post →I love the fact you can switch between multiple soldiers in middle of the mission, this should be a thing in mainline EDF games. Gives you lot more room to build a team strategically for multiple different combat scenarios and enemy line-ups. Hate the humor though. EDF is funny because all the insanity and silliness is played completely straight, this one relies too much on the 'lmao isn't it funny we are in video game and this is just a video game lmao' type of cringe self-referencial gags.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Review based on a 4-Player full campaign on Hard. Getting right to it- The game lacks variety in weapon choices that actually feel fun, not dissimilar to Iron Rain's problem but exasperated by the fact that the levels are too small and we're far too mobile- making all the slower weapon choices completely irrelevant. There aren't even that many weapons to begin with, some being direct upgrades to others. Multiple classes just feel completely pointless because their skills just aren't needed in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Colourful trigger happy Starship Troopers/ Serious Sam style game. Best spinoff in the Earth Defense Force series, especially for younger people. Gameplaywise it's closer to the originals. Sadly unlike normal EDF games, there is no local coop, only online coop with up to 4 players. EDF veterans will have fun with it, but it still feels like something is missing.

Many hours in, you beat the big villain, credits roll, and... then Ragnarok happens. Mid credits. Then the last third of the game begins.

Only 60 stages with unlockable higher difficulties (Hardest raises item levels to 3). Wait for a sale. Each map has the same amount of enemies regardless of how many players join. You will be targeted by everything if you play solo and some maps have multiple enemies with abilities that juggle your characters to death. Its a decent experience once you unlock enough bros to build a team that fits…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As an EDF fan I was disappointed. It's more like a mediocre imitation of a Lego video game than it is an EDF game. The gameplay is drastically different from other EDF, hardly anyone plays online and the national stereotypes are childish and ridiculous. The "comedy" is stuff like a bear being obsessed with honey and a ninja that's obsessed with miso soup, which they babble about incessantly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think I played more of the Earth Defense Force series this year than any other game. Specifically 6 if you need just one

unlabelledView post →I initially held off on trying this as the voxel graphics aren't really my thing. Also, it has a lot of little differences from the mainline EDF games where if you were to analyze each change individually they don't sound good, but I am glad I gave it a try as when it all comes together it is actually a lot of fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another interesting EDF game. This one differs from the mainline games (4.1, 5, etc) I would say... significantly. If you like the mainline games, I would review some gameplay of World Brothers prior to purchase to see if it's something you would be interested in.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →People often cite Earth Defense Force as being Dynasty Warriors with guns. I don't think that's true, but for this game in particular it is more true than usual. World Brothers is faster and more streamlined. Where Iron Rain was the most tactical and had the gear with the harshest downsides, World Brothers is the least tactical and everything you can bring is simple, convenient. None of this is a point against it, I find the game pretty fun. It's shorter, faster, and more lighthearted than the…
