There's a lot of game but there's also a lot that annoyed me. In no particular order: 1. Exploring often consists of trying to figure out which direction to go, and alot of times the map isn't helpful. There's a couple of times you'll have to figure out a way to go higher and it's not really obvious. I got tired of the winding paths the game wanted me to take. 2. The sidequests that are basically "go here", "oops actually here", "seriously, go here", etc. got old fast. 3 Turrets.…

For what it is this game is "good". It's just an ultra casual Zomboids. Think Zomboids mixed with My Little Universe. It's not worth $20.. but $10-$12 sure.

Volume over substance. Famine without Feast. Dysmantle is a game that I've had on my list for quite some time. As a fan of survival games, grinding games, incremental games, etc, it seemed right up my ally. But, every time it fell on sale I was busy playing something else, or had funds committed to other things. The recent summer sale was the first time that was not the case. So, I finally picked it up. And honestly? This is becoming one of the few purchases I've ever made that I regret.…

It's good fun, simple and straightforward. Also, this is a true couch co-op game you can play together with a friend, which is exactly what I was looking for. Too many devs out there who only make online multiplayer and don't even bother with traditional multiplayer, so I'm glad this one does.

Decent game, but also a horrific grindfest. The whole point of the game is to run around a huge map breaking stuff with your hammer/machete/whatever to upgrade the tool and be able to break bigger stuff. Upgrading machete with stone and electronics, upgrading hats with metal and wood - it's grinding for the sake of grinding. 6/10

DYSMANTLE has a satisfying progression loop at first, but it seriously overstays its welcome. Upgrading your tools and slowly being able to destroy more of the environment is fun, but the game eventually turns into a huge amount of repetitive resource gathering, backtracking, and checklist cleanup. By the time I finished all the achievements, I was more relieved to be done than excited about completing it. There’s a good game here, but it could have been much shorter.

A weirdly relaxing survival craft game. It looks nice, and I like that you can smash everything in sight, especially when you've upgraded your weapons to max. It can be a little tricky to get started, but soon enough you get stronger and it feels great. The story is okay, but there's not much of it compared to the vast amount of gameplay. After a while, gameplay start to feel really repetitive, there's not loads to do, and mechanics are pretty simple. There is a huge map to explore, but often I…

You already know if you'll enjoy this slop, everyone else take a hard pass. it's a open world destruction game with a paper thin story surrounded by layers of unrewarding loops and it becomes obvious early that the game does not respect your time. The entire game your forced to fight with a limiting inventory, and the longer you play the game the more obvious it become that the "walls" you hit only exist to waste your time. Everything is clunky and there's no player quality of life. Too much…

This game was therapy for me, and I’ve been meaning to review it for a while. It came at a pretty stressful time in my life, and I just needed a game that didn’t stress me out too much. This game checked that box. It was just… fun. It was challenging and tense but not to a detriment. I loved the farming loop, I loved exploration loop, and the graphics were great. It was just what I needed, and I highly recommend it.

A lot to like. I like the concept. I like the atmosphere it creates. But, after awhile, you're just doing the same thing every time you play. Having a more diverse set of materials to break down would be great. Instead, it feels like there's not actually many items. Also, you just go around killing the same zombies with little challenge. It started fun, but fizzled out for me after a week or two.

Once I 100% this game including DLC i stopped too think did I actually enjoy that and then when i looked at my play time i decided, not only did i enjoy it but it's one of only a handful of games i've sunk over 100 hours in. I don't know why I'm playing this game. I'm nearly 11 hours in and I seriously don't know why I'm here or why I should care. The story is just a series of fetch quests where we get effectively zero info about what happened. Beyond that, the game is literally just smashing stuff to get materials so you can upgrade your tools so you can break tougher materials at the exact same rate. It's literally just "hit something 2-6 times then repeat". Sometimes you smack an "ex-Human" once or twice and…

Dysmantle is about escaping a post-apocalyptic island, and the primary means of doing so is reducing it to constituent parts. Nearly every object in the game can be broken down for materials. Steel fences, cars, buildings, the emotional-damage-of-other-survival-games-you've-played-before-this-one, etc. All of it goes into the grinder. It's cathartic in a way that's difficult to articulate and embarrassingly easy to lose hundreds of hours to. The map opens up at a pace that respects your…

This game could have been better if the devs made movement through the map easier. There are too many cliffs to go around making it sometimes like a maze. Another criticism is that there should be more hints as to what to do. Even with exploring most of the map, it is easy to miss important things. For example, one definitely needs a gas mask to proceed but where to get one. One needs to cross over the river twice via blocked railroad bridges. If one never approaches a particular locomotive…

Decent middle of the road survival crafting game. More story driven, with some clever map design, though it drags for quite a while. It's a fine game to decompress with but I doubt it's winning any awards. Many of the voicelines are text to speech which is a shame.

DYSMANTLE is essentially a psuedo-incremental game about exploring, killing zombies, crafting, destroying everything for resources, and leveling up. This is NOT a survival game, and I feel like it's weird that it's marketed as one. There are no survival mechanics and if you die you simply just start at a Dark Souls campfire and the mobs reset. I love it. I like that it's not a survival game. I like that it's just a game where I get experience for doing everything and I level up and get…

Really good game, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone as it can get really tedious in several parts ( mostly the second part of the jungle, and at the end/post end ). It's also a "survival crafting" game where survival is non-existent : you don't NEED to eat, drink or sleep, but you CAN cook to get bonuses/healing and sleep to pass time. But you also have bandages and painkillers so cooking to heal is useless. Crafting is not the main point either. You'll unlock new gear to progress,…

It isn't without its pain points, but they weren't enough to prevent me from finishing the game. And let me not bury the lede - a big part of my pain was not realizing there was a building system until I was about to beat the game. Honestly a little bit of a let down... I really wanted to enjoy this game more, it has a cool concept and the art direction is actually pretty nice. But there are some things that keep me from wanting to play more of it. 1- The controls feel a bit sluggish, the movement has that tiny bit of delay which makes what could be a nice smooth movement a bit frustrating to use. Dysmantle is one of those survival crafting games where you break things down into resources to craft tools to break more things. It's imperfect with pacing faltering later on but it delivers a fun experience for a good while. There's a lot of activities to do in this game, like base building, fishing and such, but primary drive of progress and discovery will be whacking random items until they pop into resources. You'll do that a lot here. Also, fighting with enemy zombies is near-constant…

100% Dysmantle on 7/26/2024. My wife and I just beat Dysmantle. Fun survival couch coop game where you emerge from your shelter to discover that the island you are on has been over run by zombies. You must now "dysmantle" objects to collect material to upgrade your weapons, tools, and buildings to survive and escape the island. Very fun with non obvious metroid-vania style elements. There are also quite a few interesting twists within the story of the game.

I'm not that crazy about it. Some things I don't love in any game: Corpse runs. Arbitrary content hard level gated in an open world game. Most things un-bound by time, then a few things based on in-game time, then like two things based on real world time but only while the game is running. Hold-A instead of just press to interact with things. Run-speed that's incredibly slow. Auto-run disables as soon as combat. There's other examples, too. None of them are like the biggest problem, but the…
