Dungeon Keeper™ 2
Developer Bullfrog Productions
Dungeon Keeper 2 is a strategy game developed by Bullfrog Productions and published by Electronic Arts in 1999 for Microsoft Windows. In the sequel to Dungeon Keeper, the player takes the role of a 'dungeon keeper', building and defending an underground dungeon from the would-be heroes that would invade it, as well as from other keepers. In the campaign mode, the player is charged with recovering the portal gems… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

60 of 182 · most liked firstI think most people considering buying this game already know it's amazing. However, would note this version is just a copy paste of the GOG version. Nothing has been done to improve stability on newer systems and players rely on a community mod (flame) for stability patches. forever dreaming of an official remaster.

Back in the late 90s, when “real-time strategy” meant more than building 400 space marines, this gem let us live our best evil overlord fantasies — digging tunnels, slapping minions, and throwing chickens at Bile Demons until they finally waddled into battle. The game oozes British humour darker than your dungeon walls, with a narrator who mocks you as much as your enemies. There’s a twisted joy in watching heroes storm your lair, only to be dropped into a torture chamber…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Few strategy games have managed to capture the twisted joy of being the villain quite like Dungeon Keeper 2. Released in 1999, this classic continues to reign supreme among dungeon management games, proving that sometimes, the original formula is simply unbeatable. At its core, Dungeon Keeper 2 retains the classic gameplay that made its predecessor a hit—managing a dark lair, corrupting heroes, and expanding a dungeon filled with monstrous minions. Yet, it builds on that foundation with…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a nostalgia game for me. Played it when it originally came out back in the day (lord I feel old) this is why I write the review after 10 minutes in game lol
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is remarkably stable. You can remap the controls from the traditional arrow keys layout to a more modern WASD, as well as zoom out by holding CTRL+down arrow (or S if you've rebound) Plays well, I can tab out without issue. Haven't tried multiplayer so can't vouch for that Edit: I just checked the other reviews. Lots of people seem to have crashes. I'm at 0 crashes at 16 hours played (about halfway through the campaign) so I guess you're either lucky or unlucky
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game but refuses to run on modern machines, and EA locked the app so you cant modify it, Registry changes and voodoo emulation doesnt do anything. Cant stop stutter, and cant change resolution. Just get a free cracked copy online and do the patches yourself.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably one of the best RTS games ever created. I could yap for hours about how much this game means to me, so I hope this review doesn't end up being a biblic paragraph. Your first moments in the game would be: "bro, this is old af" it is, it's a game from 1999, also, the game isn't as well known as Age of Empires or Starcraft. If these games are having dinner together on a table, Dungeon Keeper is like the little piece of paper you put under one of the legs to keep the table from moving.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll say it's an interesting game, especially for its time, and I would definitely want to progress further. But I have to admit it's just too old to be played anymore. It needs a complete overhaul to even be playable at this point, so I'll have to pass.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →amazing nostalgia for players who played many years ago and one of the best games of this type even to this day. enjoyable for anyone who enjoys this type of humour and gameplay. enough rooms, character types and levels for as many hours as you'd like. there are cheat codes for help but im nearly done with the campaign and havent felt the need for them. sure some levels youll restart after learning where secrets or enemy spawns are, levels are fair and you are very much guided but not over the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Update: I ended up fixing the game by adding DGVoodoo2 to my install folder, which somehow completely transformed the game from running like absolute ass to running gloriously. BUT! Be cautious when buying this game, because out of the box it doesn't perform at all. ---- While the game itself is unmistakably a master piece, it's sadly basically unplayable due to how badly it has aged performance-wise. It's such a stutter fest that even the in-game camera cinematics won't function properly,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One would hope that after all these years, the biggest bug in the game would be fixed. But no, after finishing the first level, the game just crashed. This is a bug I dealt with as a child. A bug that has been fixed in pirated versions of the game. I bought the game, because I love DK!!! I wanted to financially show my support for the game, and who knows, it might have helped with a reboot, even if it is a War Of The Overworld 2 game... But seriously, applying an existing bug fix is the minimum…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Steam needs to re-upload this game, its currently broken. the data is corrupted. It keeps crashing at the start and end. even task manager wont close the application. this game sorely needs some achivements too.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game doesnt work without mods otherwise i would thumbs up low resolution and freezing when exiting the game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My dad introduced this game to me when I was a kid and I was so exited to find out that its on Steam. 10/10 game would recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It' s Dungeon Keeper 2, one of the best RTS ever made. Thanks for bringing it back; I've enjoyed playing the campaign from start to finish once more.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bare minimum port, but it's nice to see some of these old gems preserved.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a truly UNIQUE case of an old-school game from 1999, which still feels interesting, fun to play and not really outdated! Speaking of vibes and sense of humor - this game is a pure gem nowadays, when we have either bloody brutal nonsense massacre or pinky-pony marshmallow games - DungeonKeeper gives you a unique experience of playing for evil, with lots of brutal mechanics - but at the same time all this made so cute and funny. Worth to play in 2026!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slow and glitchy, why? This game used to play buttery smooth on a vintage 1999 Windows machine. Here, it stutters so bad it's unplayable. I instantly regretted buying this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THIS GAME IS VERY NOSTALGIC FOR ME. I FOUND THIS GAME BY ACCENDT BACK IN 2001. l LOST THE GAME WHEN I MOVED TO A NEW PLACE IN 2003. GLAD TO SEE IT ON STEAM.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game does not get past opening cinematic and then just crashes had to ask for refund
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dungeon Keeper™ 2 I'm just happy they’re porting retro games to the modern times <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game. Obviously remaster version is needed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An experience. Nothing to compare this to. Still recommend getting this on GOG or something more easily moddable. Non the less, if you haven't tried this, do it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only the real one's know this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →thumbs up if game didn't crash and unable to exit without task manager, and massive lag problems. https://github.com/DiaLight/Flame?tab=readme-ov-file This fixed it for me, but, i shouldn't have to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ do that! Edit: Now my game crashes every time after startup cut scenes even WITH DK2 flame. So double thumbs down now. Ill leave the link there incase it helps someone else still. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, i shoulda finished the whole game in one sitting i guess.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is the sequel to the first of its kind. Dungeon management as the bad guy at its best. If you play anything retro or 8-bit then the outdated graphics won't keep you from enjoying this game. If you are a graphics snob the cutscenes will be the only thing you appreciate. I played this when it was new. I played this when it was outdated and you had to jump through hoops to make it work. If you have trouble running this it is a hardware/software issue on your end. My system is last month…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game crashes my pc when i quit and i lose progress
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, true classic. Though its technical nature seems a bit wonky at times with some effects being FPS-dependent, UI-text dissappearing at high resolutions, some creatures not spawning in some levels, relative low forced resolution etc. Could honestly use the remaster-treatment, but don't think that is likely to happen due to Dungeon Keeper 1 (and KeeperFX in extension) being much more popular in general. I personally prefer this game as I really really really like its art-style and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's good to be bad. Surprisingly cosy, especially with My Pet Dungeon mode. Controversial take, but I think it's better than the original.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I LOVE THIS FRANCHISE AND GAME! BUT!... i cant say this game is good for it still has bugs! 2 out a 5 intill the fix the BUGS IN THE GAME! then 4 out a 5... maybe a 5. Known bugs EA has yet to fix.. 1 Dark angels do not spawn no matter how many fully built temples are on the map! I LOVE THE ART! I LOVE THE MUSIC! I LOVE THE STYLE! I LOVE THE JOKES! I LOVE THE MAPS! I LOVE THE CREATURES! I LOVE THE SPELLS! I LOVE THE SECERETS! I LOVE THE CHEAT CODES! During any game enter the code for cheat!…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game played a lot better 25 years ago and it was a lot of fun back then. Now it's so glitchy it's unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic of god games. Still one of the best in the genre. One of my favorite games of all time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dungeon Keeper 2, developed by Bullfrog Productions and published by Electronic Arts, remains one of the most distinctive strategy experiences ever created—a game that flips fantasy conventions on their head and invites you to revel in the role of the villain. Instead of commanding noble heroes or managing peaceful kingdoms, you construct a sprawling underground empire filled with monsters, traps, and dark machinery. The result is a uniquely satisfying blend of base-building, real-time…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey kids! You know all those base builders on your phone that keep promising you fun and interesting gameplay but actually just force you to grind for hours unless you throw real money at it, for minimum gain? Well, THIS game is what those cruddy mobile versions keep pretending to be! It even has that evil greedy flavor to it, except you get to enjoy that taste for yourself! Old but Gold. This was made with love back in the day and it shows. Gameplay is simple, but fun and satisfying.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quick review, playing on Steam Deck using proton 8 Plays really well, absolutely still loads of nostalgic fun, If you played this back in the day I think you will really appreciate it for its thought and charm. Does run a little slow at points but you can tweak the settings as needed, I'm thoroughly enjoying it on the Deck. I just want to get a Casino jackpot for the dancing easter egg!!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so funny! I played it when I was much younger and was stoked to see it on Steam. Still one of my favorite base-building/army combat games, even if it is fairly simple. Being simple means it's easy to learn, as the campaign introduces things to you gradually, and the maps don't feel like a rinse and repeat of each other, each uses a unique strategy to beat. Very good time waster!! lol
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game but the UI is ancient.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is from my childhood and I loved it then, love it now....however there are issues. The game is old so its going to have some issues, these however can just cause the game to completely stop working. Updated my graphics drivers and now the game wont launch, changing the audio setting from default will just make 90% of the sounds stop working, sometimes the game just wont launch, to change your cursor speed and your camera speed you need to go into a pc setting, and more issues.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Broken. Freezes when you exit. Seizes the mouse.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game, takes me back a longgggg time. Make sure to get that flame launcher thing, it patches the game and makes it compatible with widescreen and such.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Brilliant throw back to when games were great!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, hard on some stages and really fun, yet, there is one problem, i mastered it and now when i Play skirmish with 3 bots on master level i just beat them, on all maps, so it gets boring, still, really fun and enjoyable game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You have an excess of mistresses. There's a name for keepers like you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unplayable. Crashes often and lags even in the main menu.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Childhood memories! Wish this game made another like it more modern. Online matches. So much potential !

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The very rock yawns with anticipation of your next fascinating move.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic from a era of gaming few modern games can match.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an alright game. It feels less big and very unsatisfying to play compared to the first part though. Lets start with the good since the list is short: +graphic update +the funny announcer voice lines + casino jackpot dance (disco inferno) +building QoL +unlocked rooms which (combined with temple) gives the player ways to manipulate their creature pool +rebalanced many overtuned units + simplified their overloaded spell kits down to 1-4 simple abilities +the missing hero and monster…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nostalgia ! I love this kind of package it makes it easy to play games from your childhood, while most of them needs workaround and fixes and patches.. and sometimes doesn't even launch on modern computers. Here, you just have to click play and enjoy the game in it's full contents. It is still a good game, like in my memories, maybe not made for everyone, but certainly made for those who played it back in the days.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I first played DK2 back in late 1999. I bought the game on a whim. Ended up putting hundreds of hours into it. I've played a number of dungeon manager games since 1999, but none of them have ever come close to Dungeon Keeper 2. Part of what I love about this game is the pacing. Compared to many base management games today, DK2 is fairly slow. You can take your dear, sweet time in most (not all) levels and you will never be over-run. That is a big plus for me. I really love designing the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic, no pay to play, a real good old game..... nice to be the bad ones too!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Somehow, this game holds up in quaint, cute, and often dated charm. The graphics are extremely 90s, very chunky, and yet... they communicate both the intent and the vibe they were going for. Difficulty also remains very 90s with one particular mission ratcheting up the insanity out of nowhere. Oh well, restart mission! This is how we used to play back in the day. In fact, the game's age and fresh thinking of what *could* be done instead of streamlining all the fun out of it with what *should*…
