Duck, You Sucker
At the beginning of the 1913 Mexican Revolution, greedy bandit Juan Miranda and idealist John H. Mallory, an Irish Republican Army explosives expert on the lam from the British, fall in with a band of revolutionaries plotting to strike a national bank. When it turns out that the government has been using the bank as a hiding place for illegally detained political prisoners -- who are freed by the blast -- Miranda… From TMDB

unlabelledView post →DUCK, YOU SUCKER! is surely one of Sergio Leone's most peculiar films. Rod Steiger and James Coburn seem to have beamed into the film from different planets and yet they have undeniable chemistry. It also sports some of Morricone's weirdest music. Recommended!

This third installment in his Once Upon a Time trilogy (preceded by 1968's Once Upon a Time in the West and 1971's Duck, You Sucker!) was his first directorial effort (in 13 years) and also his last.

The main theme “Sean” represents one achievement in Morricone's catalog. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbSo...

unlabelledView post →I'm home today after TCAF weekend, so it's time to finally watch DUCK, YOU SUCKER! (1971), directed by the great Sergio Leone, and starring James Coburn and Rod Steiger. The film also known as A FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE, likely to draw parallels to Leone's famous DOLLARS Trilogy.

A story about friendship between two dirtbags that starts as this vulgar action comedy only to give way to something sad and tragic.

IMO, he was one of the greatest composers of the 20th century (film or otherwise), & is on the Mount Rushmore of film composers. A true original!

Both movies address a complicated problem and come to the conclusion that it doesn’t have a solution to that problem, or that the solutions contain inherent contradictions.

unlabelledView post →Duck, You Sucker! is actually really good so far jokes aside. I kinda expected a Western action film from the title and... well yes technically it is indeed in both of those genres but I didn't know it was about revolutionaries or expect it to have so many surrealist scenes. Def late period Leone.

This is a Looney Tunes cartoon where Coburn rabbit seasons a guy into accepting a role as a revolutionary hero, it's great. Woefully underrated, imo.
