What people are saying
Most players praise this horror anthology, but some find it uneven.
Many players consider this the best Dread X Collection yet, praising consistent quality and a compelling hub world. One player called it 'by far the best Dread Collection to date, consistent quality across the board' and another said it was 'easily the best of the Dread Collections'. [3][16]
However, some players found the quality varies greatly, with a few games being weak or buggy. One player noted 'the quality of games vary greatly in gameplay, visuals, and dialogue', while another complained about 'next to 0 technical congruency between the games'. [10][35]

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For me this was by far the best Dread Collection to date, consistent quality across the board. I appreciated every game to some extent, and the overarching hub story and world building is the coolest and most interesting in the series too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Itch.io games being sold for $10.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Huge upvote on the games that came with mega downvote on the dread x hub game. You've literally made all 4 games bug out at random times, not saving the progress... Wth are you doing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wil write a short review of every game individually. Axis Mundi Not horrible, but the "combat" can be a bit obnoxious at times. Uktena 64 A good experience, although the last level could have been more interesting. Rose of Meat Really unique game with creative systems. Very stylish. Seraphixial The voice acting is horrible, the story is lame, and the combat is barely passable. The models and world are just poorly made. Did not like this one at all. Black Relic This game was great! The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Before I get into the individual reviews for each game, I'll just say that this is a really good horror anthology overall and I highly recommend picking it up if you enjoy this sort of thing. ARK 2 / Hub Area This one isn't exactly a "game" so much as an interactive hub to access the real content. But it has a story and some linear gameplay so I'll count it. I enjoyed the arctic base setting. It's very obviously inspired by "The Thing", which is one of my favorite horror movies so that's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one is a very mixed bag. Some of the games are good, some are ok but rough. Uktena 64 is a fun time, and I enjoyed Black Relic and The Fruit. The others are fairly meh, save for Seraphixial, which just feels like a badly made asset flip type of game. The 'hub' world game is the worst of the bunch up to this point, not counting the first game, which barely had a hub world. The protagonist is obnoxious, constantly making marvel style quips and jokes, the traversal and navigation is slow as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All the Dread X collections are somewhat uneven, but with more good than bad and even the lesser games are at least sometimes interesting. This is the first one i completed all the games in so lets go through them in order. The Fruit 9/10 - By far the standout title, cool atmosphere, a great reloading mechanics that truly added to the tension. Could absolutely be expanded to a bigger project if the dev wanted but as a standalone short indie, it's pretty damn good and probably worth the asking…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Uktena 64 is great. The rest of the games are quite bad. There is next to 0 technical congruency between the games with some supporting gamepad, some starting in wide screen/fullscreen, some of them supporting ultrawide, etc. I wish I could refund it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing part of the Dread X series, back to its darker vibe, all 7 of the games are shooters but very different from each other, this one definitely had one of the best games in the series in my opinion, "The Fruit" and "House Of Unrest" were really good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve bought the bundle with all Dread X Collection Games in a sale for 90% off (or some value like that). So far, the collections have had pretty good games mixed with some bad ones, but 2 and 3 were overall pretty good experiences. 3 had Disparity of the Dead, a game I think everyone should try. So, what about this one? Just like the others, let’s give a score to each one of them, so they all can be reviewed (in the order I played): >The Fruit< 9/10 - This is the best game in this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good. The quality of games vary greatly in gameplay, visuals, and dialogue. Collection of 7 games set within a launcher(which is also a game with it's own story). You finish the games in the launcher in order to solve the mystery thereof. The ark 2 launcher game is a well written story, sometimes the voice acting feels like it lacks the emotional depth of the scene, but it's well written nonetheless. Gameplay revolves around inputting codes and retrieving samples. The ending…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think this is one of, if not, the weakest of the Dread X collections. It has the least games and the quality isn't there either. There's only 2 of them I actually liked, so I don't think I can recommend this collection. But I did really like House of Unrest and Uktena 64. The Hub is not great in this one either. Especially the ending sequence. You basically have to abuse hidden animation skips to even finish the story legitimately because the devs didn't think players would close a door…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very solid entry in the series! Was very pleased with most of the games and the outside area's story was a nice changeup from the previous dreadx.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did like all of the games but they are poorly optimised, and The Fruit crashes before the gameplay even start on top of the the doors in the main game are slow and if you click them multipe times they can glitch and get stuck making you unable to pass thru either way, I came for uktena and I'm happy I gotten some more content
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Axis mundi seriously blows me away the whole collection is worth it for that game in my opinion do not get me wrong i am over hyping it a bit (maybe a lot to some people but i loved it) but it feels like a lost media n64 game and the way the dev made so much out of so little is amazing the level design with the little parkor is cool and the camera ghost fighting feels hard yet fun. wait for a sale n64/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I do think it's still worth the price, I was disappointed by this collection. Hearing that each game got more development time seemed like a good sign but for most of them I didn't see that much jump in quality compared to the other dread x collection games. Granted there are still mostly good games but overall I'd probably not play this for a while. Ranking: #0 - The Hub world Decent story, great environment and atmosphere compared to the hubs in collections 2 and 3. Some mediocre voice…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only recommending due to Uktena being a god tier game. Make Uktena 2 or I will riot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this one has the most amount of bad games (i havent played the 5th dread x) the hub stutters and one of the games made my graphics card cry! like 3 good games (uktena, black relic and axis mundi) the rest suck and the fruit made my card make the spooky new noise
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent collection of short FPS games, wrapped up in an entertaining hub which pays homage to The Thing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Serving as the fourth edition, Dread X: The Hunt has 7 short horror games for you to play through, with each game completed contributing towards progressing in the hub of the game, which is performing research in a laboratory on a remote, arctic location in the style of The Thing. Due to the length of most of these games, giving them too much detail would spoil things, so here's a short description of the games to be found within: Uktena A generic-looking hunting game in the style of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's better than Call of Duty: Ghosts.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent collection of short but evocative horror games. Each is interesting in their own ways.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easily the best of the Dread Collections. Every game is a fun horror romp. Mostly because David Szymanski has a hand in all of them. The only major con is the protagonist won't never shut her ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mouth.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really cool anthology of horror-esque games taking place inside another neat horror game. Great fun even for people who typically don't like horror
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It may just be because I'm a sucker for first person shooters but this is by far the best Dread X Collection that has been released so far. Though I still genuinely has a deep love and respect for what DreadXP is accomplishing on this platform :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The hunt was one of the most entertaining Collections ever. All the games were fantastic!. And for 8,20$ its pretty cheap.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another fantastic collection of Dread X games. These keep getting better and better.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A collection of mishandled, un-optimized and poorly thought out titles (minus the outing from AkumaKira, which was actually extremely well done) wrapped around the concept of 'spooky' and 'fps'. Middling and inconsistent frame rates, overtly boring world design, uninspired gameplay/mechanics and some of the most offensive visuals I've run into in a long LONG time round out this bag of disappointment. Axis Mundi : Average exploration game where you trap ghosts by shooting them with a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dread X Collection 4: The Hunt is a distinctive horror anthology built around a simple but flexible concept: the act of hunting. Released in 2021, the game was developed by a large collaboration consisting of DreadXP, David Szymanski, Christopher Yabsley, KIRA, Philisophic Games, Dan McGrath, TorpleDook, Abbey “Scruncho” Smith, Vidas Salavejus, Redact Games, Wayward Preacher, Mr. Pink, and Aaron Wise, while DreadXP serves as the publisher. Co-produced by David Szymanski, the collection contains…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a flop. I know this one was hyped quite a bit, but it has the least games, and the same goes for how they play. The hub was 50/50. I really love the setting of The Thing and similar stories and concepts, but here it was a miss. Black Relic - It's a mid game about hunting demons and cultists with a crossbow Rose of Meat - One of the best games in the collection. Weird, up to the point that the bizarreness of it makes it scary Axis Mundi - 50/50 game about photohunting. Looks good,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most awful games (it's a game collection but all of them are terrible), I've played in a while. Each game contained has the look of a video game but no substance to back that up with, no writing of particular interest, no gameplay worth it's time, no visuals interesting or of good quality to even make an effort to make up for the rest. The theming only applies to like 2 games, in one of them the gun is so awful I basically ignored it the entire game. Not worth price on discount, not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Modern gaming slop invading the indie scene. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the main character loves to hear herself talk. Literally no reason there needs to be a voice protagonist in this. I died from cringe in the first five minutes
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a pretty good collection of games, much better than the first Dread X collection which is the only other one I've played. They're all made in Unity and only one feels like an asset flip. The overworld game set in a bunker seems modeled after "The Thing", which seems cool until nothing happens, you never use the gun you're given and the monster looks pathetic. The other games range from acceptable to great. "The Fruit" is probably the one that I will remember the most. I played it on hard…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All in all, this didn't feel as polished as the last one. Black Relic - Didn't grab me, too much flagging before you even get to the relic, and combat feels bad. Rose of Meat - Clown vomit that made it impossible to even tell where to go. Axis Mundi - Got to the circular cave bit, tried five different things and quit. Seaphixial - Kiiinda cringe? But it was at least functional. The Fruit - Probably the best of this bunch. Nice atmosphere, and being an axe murderer for justice always…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rose of Meat crashed my stream, PC, and OBS
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the idea to feature 7 slightly longer FPS games instead of the usual 10-12, but it didn't feel as cohesive compared to the other Dread X's. I was excited by the hub world when I first started and the lore was cool, but the fact that I have a rifle and only use it once was kind of a let down. I expected there to be more to do in the hub than just picking up items and running away from an enemy at the end. This was the first one in the collection where I stopped caring about the story and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Least favorite Launcher. Nice games overall, none felt too painful. All of them being shooters definitely made the gameplay more standard all around. Favorite: Hard choice but Seraphixial had enjoyable gameplay and it made me laugh a bit
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hands up, I must admit I came for "Uktena 64" and I'm really sad to say that this collection was, for the most part, a swing and a miss. The only other game I can say I enjoyed was "Rose of Meat", its weird, psychedelic imagery is really appealing to me!... I can't say the same for the others, however, "Seraphixial" being the biggest offender in how shockingly weak/bad it was, especially when compared to "Uktena", or even the simply "okay" titles (like "Axis Mundi"), it just made me feel bad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is carried very hard by the top two games as they are the only ones who did something creative AND made sure the gameplay was still fun (looking at you rose of meat). i dont understand why 3 of these games all cover something to do with priests/witchcraft when there is a much wider range of topic that can be addressed within indie shooters. thats why uktena 64 and axis mundi are good. good games: uktena 64 axis mundi mid games: the fruit black relic house of unrest atrocious…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good collection of indie games that deserve attention. I really liked the "The Thing" themed launcher world, but the main character's monologue and story drags it way down
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far on my journey through each of these in order I'm surprised to say I think this is my least favourite. As an overall experience, I appreciate them going for "quality over quantity" here with seven more elaborate and lengthy games but the overarching problem is with one or two exceptions even the games I really enjoyed in here overstay their welcome imho. Sometimes that;s because mechanically the game is clunky and slow (black relic) sometimes its because the levels are just super large…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's ♥♥♥♥, not even worth $5.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I said this in half of all of the Dread X Collection reviews. I got this in a bundle. Dread X Collection 4 is the gift that keeps giving. Now yes I do like this one because it pretty much had shooters back to back. That's honestly a plus with me. This 4th Hub is my all time favorite because its a reference to The Movie The thing. This time you have to play 7 games to get a sample. Here are the games (maybe spoilers): Uktena 64 KIRA…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The experience and the games are quite original in some way or another so nice one. > HUB WORLD: The setting is so cool and had potential. At first it seemed it would be like the pervious ones, but you can access all the games after the intro/tutorial And then theres the story of the Bunker that makes you unlock all the facility, but its quite linear, so... Also the character cant sprint and makes the exploration a bit slow > AXIS MUNDI · Duration: Short. · Gameplay: Like a basic FPS,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall a solid collection though of highly varying quality. Uktena 64 - 8/10 Another solid small game from Kira! I only wish that there was more as well as more nuances to the camera mechanics to be even more like it's inspiration: Pokemon Snap Axis Mundi - 6/10 Good atmosphere though the combat is a bit annoying and repetitive. The mystery aspect was much more interesting. Another game where it felt like there might have been a more full game originally intended but it was kept smaller.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Uktena 64 alone is worth more than $10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kind of a mixed bag but it's more good than bad in my opinion. I'd say try it, but expect a couple of "meh" games in the bunch
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Here we are at the 4th Dread X Collection of 5. In case this is your first rodeo, Dread X Collections are a bundle of a selection of short horror games developed in a Game Jam, and are tied together by a theme. This one, interestingly enough, is not called Dread X Collection 4, but instead is Dread X Collection: The Hunt. Interesting decision, as it continues aspects of the story these collections have had for a while, but with a slight twist. Unlike the past 2 collections, this one only has 7…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who's favorite games of all time are almost exclusively shooters, I do recommend checking out this entry to the Dread X Collection series; however, I do gotta mention that the interactive launcher on this game is by far the buggiest one I ran into for the entire series. I still recommend it though since a lot of the bugs are fixed by just closing and re-opening the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its cute, didnt like the rose game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful! BEAUTIFUL! Man this is the best in the series, the collection is so tight and the world is so neat. I love it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, after the fantastic set of games that was Dread X 3, we're back to business as regular with "The Hunt". But this time it's worse, because the timeline got extended to 20 days, so the fact that almost all of the games are bland and uninteresting is less excusable than previous anthologies. To add insult to injury, there are 4 games that run like absolute crap. I have an old 1070 that has served me well for years but still there were big, common, game ruining fps drops on games that have 60…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another excellent collection! I would love standalone releases for Axis Mundi and Uktena 64, those games are fantastic! They're all very good, I definitely recommend this Dread X!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't buy this. I love Dread X games and have played them from the outset, but this is just a frustrating mess. It's truly unfortunate, the theme made me fall in love with the concept but the devs need to take a step back and redefine what "indie horror" and purposefully wasting your time are. 1/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite having half as many games as the prior 2 collections, each game is twice as long and they're mostly quite well-made. The Fruit is awesome for a demo and I look forward to a potential full game. 8/10. Besides that we have a lot of clones (of excellent games, mind you, all 6 or 7/10s). Axis Mundi is a mini Fatal Frame, House of Unrest is a mini RE1, Black Relic is a mini RE4 Clone and Uktena is a more fleshed out Squirrel Stapler The two biggest misses were Seraphixial and Rose of Meat,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Black Relic: 10/10 It comes from a highly underrated developer (Torple Dook) and is a fantastic game that continues the Hand of Doom universe. It's only major issue is that it is quite dark. Axis Mundi: 10/10 It is a really cool game with a cool concept that leaves you wanting more. Uktena 64: 8/10 The ending was a call back to Steven King, but other than that and a few tid bits it doesn't give much plot. It has some replayability and is difficult to start, but fun. The House of Unrest: 7/10…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another Great collection all the games in this collection are fun although personally only two where scary
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →started playing this a little over a year ago, back when it first came out. played 5/7 of the games and then got sidetracked with life and finally ended up finishing it. my memory of most of this will be a little foggy so bear with me, but: - Hub: didnt like this one's hub as much as the others, but it was okay. a bit of a slog to get around, everything feels so far apart and you move so slowly. also i feel like the mouse controls were very strange and didnt work correctly - Axis Mundi: fun…
