It comes down to this: You should absolutely buy this game if you enjoyed Double Dragon II: The Revenge, which this is a spiritual successor to. If you don't want to play a NES game in 2017, dont buy it. Double Dragon II: The Revenge is easily in my top 10 NES games of all time. It was perfection and is still fun to play. Double Dragon IV is not total perfection, but still manages to be a lot of fun. I played the two games back-to-back. Here's the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not all bad, but it plays more like a halfway decent fan game some guy made with Game Maker in his spare time than a product made by professionals and being sold for money. If you liked the old NES Double Dragon games there is stuff here you'll like, but it's pretty bare bones with bugs that haven't and will never be fixed. To give you an example of how lazy of an effort this is, the devs didn't even bother to program in a way to exit the game. You have to press Alt + F4 or close the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Double Dragon IV The premise is as crazy as it's always been, and I wouldn't expect anything less. After triumphing over evil multiple times, Billy and Jimmy Lee established dojos across the US to "keep peace." During a road trip to San Francisco (haha) they are run off the highway and Billy Lee's girlfriend Marian is captured again. Check out Double Dragon IV, I, II, III & Neon gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azx1UT1lcN8 As the '90s as it is, Arc really missed an opportunity…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You can't throw enemies into one another. That's the only thing keeping this game from being as good as Streets of Rage 2. It's one of the best beatemups ever made. And it's probably not for you. If you've ever whined that a game is repetitive, it's not for you. If you've never been in a fist fight in real life, it's not for you. If you spent a hundred bucks on a classic NES and a few games and you never even completed Super Mario Bros., it's not for you. This game is probably not for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game will make you feel like a one-legged cat trying to bury turds on a frozen pond. It sucks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first I was a little skeptical because some of the music didn't really sound chip-tuney enough to match the classic aesthetic of the game (and there are also these weird crates in story mode that look like they don't match the rest of the game,) but as I continued to play I gained an increasing appreciation for Double Dragon IV. A lot of the classic moves and combos from the original Double Dragon's have found their way into this one, and they are more fun and elaborate than ever before! A…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As of May 2023, the issue with the game's save data sporadically erases itself has never been patched. The save files were reset twice in one day after I unlocked all the characters both times!! After the first reset, I backed up the entire "AppData\LocalLow\Arc System Works\Double Dragon IV" folder including the 6 save files and the "Unity" sub-folder hoping this would keep my progress safe. But restoring them after the second reset did nothing, and it even wiped my control settings. This…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't even bother, even on sale. Soulless cashgrab that clearly wasn't tested, balanced, or created by folks that actually played a double dragon game. +New sprites look nice +Old enemies do have new tricks -/+ super moves are easy -Hit boxes are wonky -Stages are short and uninspiring -Story is nonsense -Enemies scale poorly (from easy to kinda easy but can kill you in 1-2 hits) --Abobo is a pushover
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who's able to finish Double Dragon 2 on the NES without losing a single life on the hardest difficulty (And was even able to finish it without getting hit ONCE) this game is incredibly bad in almost every aspect and somehow manages to both be stupidly difficult for the wrong reasons (You can basically be put into an infinite loop after a knockdown due to the knee attack being nerfed from DD2 and forcing you to face only one side until you go back to neutral) AND also be stupidly easy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Double Dragon IV is only recommended if you're a NES Double Dragon 2 fans. Basically it's just DD 2.5 with few more moves, few more enemies characters which allow player to unlock and use it even in Story mode. Also if you're good on NES Double Dragon 2 it only takes around 2 hours to finish the game plus unlock everything, so judge yourself if it worth the asked price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game! It has the retro feel of the originals and adds a little bit of something new. However The game keeps losing my progress in the tower ive unlocked the mysterious warrior twice now and have beaten the story mode a few times but now have to beat it again to unlock tower again?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Double Dragon… I played this game at a friend of mine who owned a Nintendo in the late 80s. Double Dragon 4 was for sale for around 5 euro with the same look and feel as the old game. This was for me a no-brainer to buy this game. The Settings In 1 word: crap. It is not so easy to get your keyboard settings done. It is not an intuitive system. Check very good what you are setting (keyboard or pad) and make sure you select the right input controller. The standard buttons are not common, so…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*-Rating: 7.5/10 Good game for the price. It only takes just over an hour to beat but it's fairly challenging at first and pretty enjoyable overall. Very good music and similar gameplay to Double Dragon 2-* First of all, I loved the old Double Dragons and have been keeping my eye on this game until it went on sale (even though it was already cheap). Playing through Double Dragon 2 like crazy, I consider myself a pro as I could beat the game solo pretty quickly. Let's start with the worst…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's so nice to see a game like this came out around 2017 (i guess) it could easily have came out back in 1987-1988. I am sure most of the younger generation gonna hate it but .. not older gamers like me. Although it's called DD IV actually it's a sequel to DD2 and i guess it ignores DD3 (we all do lol) The graphics are so NES but more clear and colourful .. DD4 is actually based on DD@ NES version with same gameplay but some improvements. For FULL SCREEN press : Alt+Enter when the menu…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, I was extremely disappointed in this game. I played through Double Dragon II multiple times recently with a friend. I had so much fun with the mechanics of the Double Dragon series. There was a skill to it. From kiting enemy planes, to executing devastating special moves off well timed and spaced jumps. I also liked the way your attacks were consistent in the sense that right attack button attacks right, and left attack button attacks left. All of those thing are completely…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Double Dragon II is my favorite NES game of all time, no contest, so I was very excited when I discovered this game. Unfortunately Double Dragon IV did not have the magic for me. Here's the 2 biggest issues imho: 1. Gameplay Physics - They changed up the physics from II so that you can no longer turn when your character "takes a knee" when you land from a jump (knee/uppercut moves). Overall it feels clunkier and gives you less flexibility/options in combat. It took a few minutes to adjust,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: - After winning story mode and on Tower mode you can play as any of the bad guys you defeated - controls feels slightly different, but ok once you get used to it - choice of music style at options menu Cons: - Annoying ai - Annoying platforms - Certain stages don't even have bosses. - At times, bad guys flood attacks all at once, thus making it near impossible to fight back - Sometimes Roper floods throwing attacks, making it near impossible to fight in a huge crowd others: - NES…

Just by booting this game, you can immediately notice that ArcSys did their best to bring back a dead game. Double Dragon IV has the same plot as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recent update to a basically dead game added janky online modes no one asked for or wanted when Steam Remote Play has been a thing for a long time now (seriously, was anyone even still playing this?) and also eliminates your save data. Thank you for screwing up the only thing you had to keep. I'll never be playing this again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of games in this series came out after the third entry, but this is the official fourth game in the Double Dragon series. Super Double Dragon on the SNES (Return of Double Dragon in Japan) is often mislabeled as the fourth game in the series, but that game was more of a reboot. This game was envisioned by its director, Yoshihisa Kishimoto (who designed and directed Renegade and Double Dragon) as a follow up of the NES versions of the game and was meant to play as close as possible to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have no idea how this company earned the rights to this game, but it plays like some high school kid's first game maker project. It blows.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having got this game on Steam sale for like a buck. I'd say this game not wotth the full price, given some of the issues it has. First the game likes to randomly reset itself thus loosing your progress and unlocks. Second, Some of the hit boxes are weird with the top and bottom area of the screen beaning "no go for enemies" at times Third, the lack of instructions and directions in the game, like to mission skip not even mentioned (I had to watch a video on YouTube) It's START on a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cheap anniversary title made for a quick buck. The whole game screams it was made in a couple months - from the cutscenes (reused portraits, inconsistent fonts, etc) to poor SFX mastering (some sounds are way louder than others, etc), it feels so lazy. Not to mention, this game reuses lots of sprites from the Famicom DD games, and some background graphics look like photos with some filters on to make it "8-bit" (though new enemy sprites look pretty good). Still, it plays a whole lot better…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ooof, this feels rough. I love Double Dragon II, but much as this recyles the sprites and several moves from that, this game really fails to nail the feeling of that game's controls. It very much feels like a Flash game in that respect. I haven't played all of it yet, but the level design is pretty bad, with me several times feeling confused when the screen stopped scrolling at a tiny slice of platform, only for enemies to start popping into place. It fails to capture that sense of "here's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Many people are harsh on this game yet they praise Neon. Frankly, I'm the other way around. While it's true this game does look fan-made, I boil it down to whether or not it's actually fun to play. And that's where DD4 delivers and Neon fails. The controls are actually RESPONSIVE and can be remapped (Neon's controls were unbelievably stiff and confusing). Remapping controls is a must however, as the defaults are weird (Arc System Works has a poor track record with this; River City Super Sports…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →frickin awesome ! I loved DD2 growing up and this game incorporates all of them! From the music, to the levels, to the bosses. Great game, fun replayability - A++
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Over the last few years we have seen some excellent retro sequels with Mega Man 9 & 10 being ones that spring to mind but sadly upon booting up Double Dragon 4 you will see that nothing has really changed from the days of the NES and so compare it even to scrolling brawlers of the SNES era Double Dragon 4 seems unbelievably shallow and dated. Obviously the point here like the aforementioned Mega Man games is t prey on our sense of nostalgia but there are already better sequels to Double Dragon…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short story: Don't waste your money on this. Long Story: Could have been a great return to playing the double dragon classics like Double Dragon 2 on NES. But this game is just really repetitive and bland. It plays like DD2 but without the fun design and balance with the game. How bad is it? Well...I'd rather play Double Dragon 3 on NES. Yes I'm dead serious, I would rather play DD3 than DD4. It's at least shorter and is more memoriable. DD4 just has you fighting a load of enemies or bosses…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely dissapointing The game would probably be a great game if there was actually some care put into it but as it is, I really not recommened it. The dev did a good job as far as the look, the music and the overall gameplay goes.... However, there is way too many problems for the game to be enjoyable: * The controls are very stiff & clunky. Character feel hard to move around especially when compared to Double Dragon 1 & 2 on NES. * Controllers stop working in the middle of a play very…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I reall wanted to like this game and it could have been great if it wasnt for some minor design issues. First off you have to press F1 to see the strange keyboard layout. You would think that they would utilize the arrow keys to move around the menus but unfortunately the default keys to move up,down, right and left are e,s,d,x respectivey. There is no fullscreen option or way to change the resolution. You can press F2 and make it somewhat fullscrreen but this does not fill the screen it just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Also that episode of Malcolm in the Middle where they talk about "Double Dragon IV: the Sacred Stones" like it's some rare NES gem. A) There was no game called Double Dragon 4 at the time B) Nobody liked Sacred Stones. Either version!
unlabelledView post →I loved Double Dragon 2 and Double Dragon 3 on my NES so i was excited to play this sequel but tbh the game is trash. The game has lots of bugs, the storyline is not good and the combat system is nowhere near the old double dragon games. - Only for double dragon fans and buy it on sale. 4/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a different opinion, this one is far better than Double Dragon 3 on Arcade. As for comparison to Double Dragon Neon, I don't want to act like IGN. Both 2 games are decent, just not decent enough. Yeah it is really generic by the way, made using Unity Engine, "disguised as an obscure fangame" IMO Not a piece of ugly crap, still a little bit tasty
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If two dragons dawdle in boredom, their adventure falls into the trash. I'm a big fan of the NES versions of Double Dragon. Back then, as I struggled against the final boss of Double Dragon 3, I was shaking, my blood pressure must be breaking records, and I was on the verge of cerebral hemorrhage. But I had no regrets, the game was excellent. Its pseudo-sequel, Double Dragon 4 did not surprise me, because before the purchase I had read a good part of the comments. But I wanted to give it a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was more fun than I expected from the reviews, if you miss old school beat'hem up games this would be your jam. The game adds a nice variety of challenges by letting you also take control of the game's enemies to use on your play through which I really liked. The only flaw of the game is the pixel art. I appreciate they trying to stick to the original game models but I would have preferred they used higher quality pixel art (more modern without color palette limitations and with a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That's not Double Dragon. That's a level of some fan-art, not the series we all waited for. Looks like a quick prototype by some unknown freelancer. * Ugly graphics. I'm into pixel art, and this is not pixel art, it's some quick non-cleaned conversion, it's a pure fake. * Music is ok, but it's style is pure frankenstein. * Gameplay is raw. Some random fights on some random backgrounds. * Fighting resembles NES version at some close degree * Plot is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It's made by some oligophrenic…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth while, game has not been updated and doesn't go full screen properly, I even messaged the designers of the game and they had just robot answers, I was very excited 2 play until I kept falling off screen.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poorly made, poorly paced and poorly designed. Playing on a 4k tv/monitor, you end up playing in a tiny box as there are no graphics options. A shame to see a fun set of games end up like trash such as this and Neon. Even ther terrible 90's movie has Alyssa Milano, this has no such redeeming feature!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Double Dragon IV is a really good beat-up game. Its looks and feels the same as DD2. And there is alot of playable characters to play with. Very fun to play in Co-op mode. I give a negative review, because the save files just disspaear after i quit the game. It sucks. I will change the review after the patch.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This feels like a proper sequel to Double Dragon 2. While not as good as Super. It is still a proper addition to the franchise. My only major complaints are the lack of online co-op, cheapness towards the end. They remedy this with a stage select on the start menu, as long as you unlock progress. If you have two controllers, and a friend I recommend it. If you want the solo experience, it's ok. For the price I'm not complaining.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Double Dragon IV is an attend to return to the retro style of Double Dragon II, but it fails to do so. The enemies are super easy to defeat and to compensate this they added more enemies instead of trying to create a good AI. The story is just a mess that doesn't make any sense. They also added a ridiculous amount of stages, once again trying to compensate the poor AI. If I don't care about the story, I don't have a reason to keep playing, I just want the thing to end. I honestly didn't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very disappointing sequel, doesnt really live up to the series. Was able to get through an exploit where if you walk at the very top or at the very bottom, enemies dont touch you. You cant touch them either untill you move on the plane where they are. Just do some power moves, then walk back all the way up or down so they cant retaliate. Rinse and repeat. A dull effort that adds another nail in the coffin to this series.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For many, this game is broken! I waited for a patch, but seems like the devs have no intention to fix this game... DONT BUY!!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very disappointed. The game plays like it was designed over a 3 week period. Movement and combat feel off and nothing like previous installments. Don't waste your money. Hopefully River City Ransom Underground can make up for whatever you can call this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →feels like playing a upgraded version of the arcade version of double dragon 2. must play for double dragon fans or beat em up game fanatics
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →badly designed, bad controls, looks like Double Dragon, doesn't play like it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a lot of hate for this game that I don't understand. It's the most authentic Double Dragon experience you can get that isn't one of the originals, and even the original you can get on Steam (DD Trilogy) isn't a very good port. "B-b-but platforming!" The original games had this. Particularly 1 and 2 on the NES, which is where I'd say a lot of the inspiration came from, and while true it resulted in a lot of cheap game overs, that's just how they were and it's what made them memorable…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I REALLY wanted to like this game, but it feels like I'm playing a NES ROMHack of Double Dragon II, not a true sequel. All they did was reuse the sprites from the original games, and maybe added a custom sprite or two. Not enough to call this a sequel and certainly not enough to warrant the price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sorry but I'd rather play some good old DDII. The controls feel just plain off.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You'd be better off with Abobo's Big Adventure, trust me. At least it's free (and more fun - also funnier - than this quasi-fangame).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I grew up playing NES and i remember renting DD2 from the local kiosk. Back in the early 90's, Just avoid this game. Trust me. The combat feeling is "off". The lack of "oomph". Sound effects are worse than on NES Level design is way worse than in DD2 or DD3 Enemies...Double Dragon was never about having 10 enemies on screen at once. Hit detection is god awful. Sometimes your tornado kick hits enemies even if they are far away. Super moves are too easy to pull off. Yes, this is a negative.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels Amateurish Pros: + NES DD2 nostalgia + Same DD2 moves with some new ones + Good controls Cons: - Poor level designs - Poor enemy AI - Platform parts are meanigless - Hit box is a bit unforgiving - Story is uninteresting with lame dialog - Doesn't feel innovative DD4 will take you a bit down memory lane with the graphics and music of the NES DD2. But, I can't help but to feel like it was a lazy cash grab. While there are some new moves added to the old ones in DD2, there just aren't…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is fun and challenging. Some tips: - you can change the key configuration in "config" in the main menu - you can select your start mission after completing one!! Go to "menu and hit enter (multiple times), in the right corner you see the mission you selected, quite useful for your first playthrough and platform training with specific characters.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Whoof, boy is this game bad. I've loved Double Dragon games all my life, and this LOOKS like the games you might remember on the NES, but boy does it not play like them. It's nice that all the moves that used to require precise combinations of the A and B butons have been spread out to all the various buttons that have evolved since then, but the satisfaction of beating dudes up is ruined by some of the worst platforming you'll ever see, some absolute BS one-hit-kill setpieces and enemies in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good lord i'm guessing a lot of people have this morbidly wishlisted and a bunch probably bite on each sale. I bit on the current 50% so it cost about $3.50. I won't spoil the jank fun for those people, but I can say I got about exactly $3.50 out of it. It delivered: the crazed unbreaking guitar line in the track for Mission 3, a solid hour of gawking generally, 1 funny video, then that was it. I think it was worth it. There's plenty to pick over, but the main thing I'd like to point out…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you have any nostalgia for the Double Dragon series, keep them, embrace them, and dont play this. Just dont. Somehow the 80s and 90s games PLAY BETTER THAN THIS. Bad. Stick to fighters ArcSys.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rating: 7 of 10 It's kind of like going to a Double Dragon all-you-can-eat buffet and a lot of the best stuff from each game is there. Remarkably, devs got rid of a lot of the classic Double Dragon problems: - A/B being alternating buttons for punch and kick (DD2) - enemies too smart to be hit by anything other than back elbow (DD Arcade) - Special moves not triggering even though you inputted correctly (DD2) - Only one life are you kidding me (DD3:SS) - Ridiculous bridge of death jump -…
