The Beloved
The acclaimed film director Esteban Martínez is a legend both for his films and for his past marked by violence and excess. For his new project, he offers his daughter Emilia a role under the pretext of helping her with her stalled acting career. Living together on set will foster a closeness they haven’t shared for years, but it will also reopen old wounds that never healed. From TMDB

22 of 22 · most liked firstLobby cards for THE BELOVED ROGUE. I enjoy the way dramatic movie scenes of torture are framed in a border with 80s sugary cereal vibes.

It's a profoundly strange role, with Veidt hunched over, greasy and perpetually, er, moist. However, I think it served him well since other European imports were damaged by Hollywood overhype.

Hard not to compare to Sentimental Value, but the two leads give great performances, despite slow pacing and distracting stylistic changes. #LFF

Sentimental Value’s even more accomplished, more searing, more powerful big brother. #lff #filmsky #javierbardem

unlabelledView post →#LFF The Beloved - Sorogoyen’s anti-Sentimental Value weaponises film techniques to portray a family whose worlds have been shaped by cinema for the worst. Luengo is at her very best; Bardem is so tormented, you’d think home is where he truly belongs. A brutal look at pasts that can never be erased.
