Esentially the original deathtrap dungeon gamebooks (of which the originals I own) done in an arcady visual interactive style, with all the story and puzzles intact ands the dice combat carried out in card battles. Some extra fetaures have been added like encounter cards, which add an interesting mechanic in the way that it changes the game different every time you start a new book or die and lose a life. It's very different to the Tin Man fighting fantasy gamebooks or the Sorcery gamebooks,…

After the amazing first game, they really ruined it with this one! AVOID! The first of the 3 campaigns shows the fun and potential of the game, if you dont have all the items you need to beat it, you start at the start of the dungeon again without losing a life and you can strategically discover what to do and beat all enemies. The 2nd campaign is already frustrating (but still ok), as not having all items kills you and you need to watch out that you make it with the number of lives you…

If you like Ian Livingstone & Steve Jackson's classic gamebooks then you will probably love this game, presented in almost the same format as it's predecessor "Fighting Fantasy Legends". This time the three classic gamebooks brought together are "Deathtrap Dungeon", "Trial Of Champions" & "Armies Of Death". They are presented as a trilogy adventure, but with various twists. The combat system uses different style dice, which can be upgraded/penalised and the encounters in many locations are…

I love slow, narration driven games. I lonve turn-based combat, or even turn based games. I value when game puts imporatnce in decisions I take. And I came here for dungeon crawlers and rogue-like experience. I didn't find it. - it is turn-based, but it is way too slow - mostly by repetitive boring and unskippable animations, - the combat is pure random based, simply boring and obligatory crazy slow, - decisions you take vary from simple logic or mathematical question or reasonable story driven…

One of the riddles is a piece of Monty Python and the Holy Grail trivia. The question is "What is your favorite color" and the answer is Yellow (referencing the old man on the bridge scene). So basically if you had not watched that movie you would have had a 1 in 3 chance to get that riddle wrong, unless you looked up the answer online. Is this unfair? Yes. But your reaction to knowing that should tell you if you're okay with playing this game or not, if that sounds like something that would…

Fighting Fantasy Legends Portal is a Choose Your Own Adventure game where you choose a character to run through a scenario until completion. The objective of the game is to find a way to complete the scenario. In the scenario I played, you have to find multiple types of gems and place them in a certain order to complete the maze. Gameplay-wise, you just use a mouse to make your decisions. Most decisions are binary. Choice of character matters little in the game as knowing the correct path is…

Why is this game getting positive recommendations? Nostalgia? Really? It looks and plays like a student's My First Unity Project and the RNG is just un-fun. This 'game' has absolutely zero redeeming qualities.

As I played this game, I thought to myself that it wasn't really doing anything new. In fact, it seemed like it was something out of another era, like the 80's. It turns out I was spot on. This game is an interpretation of a game that came out over 30 years ago. It took me about two and a half hours to finish, and by the end it felt very repetitive. I did enjoy it, but I don't see any replay value. If you like Dungeons & Dragons (or dungeon delves in general) I'd recommend giving it a…

I had a blast playing this , its very well done , love the graphics and art and the classic simple Fighting Fantasy rpg engine from the 80s ! I created a Dwarf named Thainesen , and he made it thru after 4 plus hours in the dungeon , down to his last two lives ! Now to the next adventure in the trilogy ! Oh yes I can easily recomend this game ! Just completed The second book ! Took roughly another four hours, made a Paladin this time and she did pretty good , this time I chose the curse…

Again you are back in the lands of Allansia where you are enable to explore the core books of Deathtrap dungeon, Trial of Champions and Armies of Death. The gameplay are much harder now and you have to fully explore the dungeons and maps in order to complete the game. Pros: - Harder gameplay - Average campaign Cons: - Have to complete the books in the correct order.

I would recommend this game BUT with one major proviso - if you want the battles with the various monsters/enemies to be skill based as in Sorcery and/or Warlock do not bother with this one - as it is based on Luck only (IE the roll of a dice ONLY) - otherwise I would recommend playing it for the fun of it, as the challenge lies in finding the artefacts you need to get through the dungeon - IE in deathtrap and its sequel - Trial Of Champions - this will more than likely take you several…

Worth the low price. I am old enough that I bought these books when they were released on paper. On release. So old. However, at less than a block of A4 printer paper today these are great value no matter the price of nostalgia. However, however ... the novelty factor started to diminish with each 'book'. Deathtrap Dungeon is great fun. Well done top down CRPG with just enough challenges and cute artwork that I laughed, cried and snorted my way through with a smile on my face. That…

i didn't really like this game but not for the reason other reviewers didn't. this is basically a text adventure jazzed up with 2d backgrounds. you complete simple quests (find x, kill y, ect), find items, traps, and fight. when you die (and you will) you are taken to the start of the dungeon with all you're items and all traps reset. now what i didn't like about this game was the dice. there are 2 kinds attack (skill) and luck dice you get more dice with points or with items. each die starts…

Just finished Deathtrap Dungeon, the first of the three books / adventures included in the game and I must say, I had a blast. Needing to backtrack and replay the same dungeon a bunch of times is not the best but it doesn't get too tedious and you manage to become strong enough and learn the layout and locations just before you get bored of it. If you don't like the original gamebook adventures and have no fond memories of them, you will probably not like the game.

SHORT REVIEW This is a cRPG version of three of the early Fighting Fantasy gamebooks (Deathtrap Dungeon, Trial of Champions and Armies of Death). The game is presented in a top down 2D environment for illustration purposes and encounters are via an encounter card deck with a dice based conflict resolution system. PLOT: Seems to be a reasonable translation of the books although I'm going from memory and it was getting on for 40 years ago! GAMEPLAY: Dice based conflict resolution system.…

It's a simple yet fun game. Don't expect anything Epic but if you want a nostalgic throwback to those old pick a path books from the 80's then this will be a treat for you. There's virtually no learning curve so you can jump right on in and explore a dungeon. The music is pretty awesome too. This game may not be for those younger people spoiled by Triple A titles like Elden Ring and Baldurs Gate, but if you want a casual fantasy game that's relaxing to play, then give it a try. It's well worth…

Mindless, tedious, repetitious clicking. Hardly any decisions to make other than go left or right. Work your way to the end of the dungeon only to be sent back to the beginning to repeat the process. Monster attacks and click through dice rolling. Win the combat click on the next room repeat. Lose the fight and get sent back to the beginning to click through the same rooms again with same small set of random event happening to you repeatedly until you've clicked through every combination of…

Deathtrap Dungeon and Trial of Champions are great. However, Armies of Death is pretty broken. In fact, this game hates you. As you wander around the map you can pick up curses and injuries at random without any chance of a saving roll and these can really mess things up for you. Furthermore, when you get to the end game you face one terrific combat after the other without any chance of healing. This rapidly becomes pretty soul destroying.

You're basically playing a point and click RPG Adventure with reading for every action you take and want to take. The gameplay isn't interesting. Nothing to really keep you going imo. Roll dice by hitting "Roll Dice." Go right or left. Click. Interact with something. Click on option box. That's it.

I loved these books as a kid. Would play them for hours. This faithfully reproduces things I guess but it loses its pinache somehow. I keep getting kicked back to the starting point. It's like I"m making no progress ever. And then there is the fact that this is based on a BOOK and yet one of the most frequently used words in the book is misspelled.

I've read people's complaints about this series, but for me I've found one use that works out really well. I'm a streamer and I use playing part of one of these adventures as a game for my viewers. They can bet some stream currency (earned by watching my stream) to try to complete a quest or gain 2 levels, and if they make it quadruple the stake. When people have tried it goes down really well. Obviously, they're not trying to achieve everything so it's just a few minutes each time, but for…

I recommend it, but note that there is an assortment of minor bugs still present. However, you should be able to finish without it interrupting you enjoyment. The title is worth it even if it only had the first book, Deathtrap Dungeon, which makes the other two books a nice bonus. The books are not 100% the same as in the paperback versions. Naturally, with the transition to a more graphical presentation some adjustments to the narrative and encounter design are to be expected. For me this is a…

Old '80s gamebooks coming to life This game is based on three old Gamebooks from the '80s, part of the Fighting Fantasy collection: -Deathtrap Dungeon -The Trial of Champions -The Armies of Death They were all written by Ian Livingstone, co-creator of the series. This game is not at all like reading those old books but instead, it creates a world (or dungeons mostly for the first two parts) where you walk and encounter various monsters, traps and treasures, some random, some based on the…

took 5.6 hours to win first book, very frustrating. The rng for dice is GREAT!......if you are the enemy rolling!!!!! Also took me hours to figure out that its better to hoard stuff than use it right away i.e. healing potions. Just die a few times getting items cause you cannot beat it without losing a life or 5 anyway :-) once i got an internet map this became enjoyable.

There are parts of this that are fun, exploring, random battles, nostalgia. However, parts are very much not fun. I remember why I quit this the first time -> I probably couldn't find the Garnet or whatever it was, and had to eat some Barbarian's meat dozens of times as I systematically trudged down every path. Further, it incentivizes grinding to upgrade dice, but the grinding is boring (intentionally going on traps, etc.). If you want to complete this game, be prepared to suffer monotony.

I tried a couple of the Fighting Fantasy games released prior to this, and this has been my favorite. If you grew up with this, I'm sure you will like the older ones (check out Classic), but if you didn't then I think you might as well skip to the newest one available for a more modern approach to this game. Just realize you are getting yourself in to a choose-your-own-adventure that also has some stats/rolls. It also has some some randomization (encounters marked with a question mark).…

Years ago I tried Fighting Fantasy Legends after acquiring it through Humble Bundle, but did not have a positive initial experience, and did not get far.
