After being accused of bringing about the end of the world too soon, War returns to a devastated Earth to uncover the truth and clear his name. The game blends hack-and-slash combat with exploration, platforming, and dungeon puzzles. War’s heavy weapons make battles feel powerful, while new abilities…

There is a fix on Reddit which involves downloading a zip file, pasting a line of command into proton 8.0 and running a script for 30+ minutes... Definitely should not be classed as "verified" on Steam Deck.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When deciding between the Warmastered Edition and the original Darksiders, ask yourself what matters more: 1. A solid, functional game that just works, or 2. The exact same game with modern resolutions and slightly improved textures, but bizarrely messed up audio, especially in cutscenes. This remaster feels insulting. They slapped on marginally higher-res textures, added resolution support, and called it a day while completely botching the audio mix. In cutscenes, dialogue and grunts…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a mixed bag. There's clearly a lot of love and passion poured into this game but sometimes it feels like such a drag. About a third of the way in I was very much done with the game. It can feel like the best and the most mediocre game at the same time. I'd still recommend it for the masterfully crafted highs on offer here. PSA: The Steam Deck verified is a hoax. It's needs some manual patching.

unlabelledView post →Darksiders Warmastered Edition was an absolute blast from start to finish. The gameplay is awesome, with satisfying combat, fun puzzles, and a great mix of exploration and platforming. Every fight feels impactful, and unlocking new abilities keeps things fresh throughout the game. War is easily one of the coolest protagonists in gaming. He's basically an unkillable badass who never backs down, and playing as him is incredibly satisfying. His design, voice, and attitude fit the apocalyptic…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is alright, up until the point where it decides to stop being a hack'n'slash action game and becomes a slog of a clunky puzzle game with repetetive enemies and on top of that a fetch quest across the entire map for honestly no reason. If the game would've dropped me into the 2 last bossfights without the prior chore duty of teleport puzzle bs and then the marathon through the entire map, then it would've been way better.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cant recommend this game enough, its a masterpiece, I found this because I wanted to play god of war on pc. If you like brutal deaths with finishers and a great story, this game is for you
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my cozy game. In my opinion, one of the best action games ever made.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Someone played Twilight Princess, read the Bible and associated fanfiction like Dante's Inferno, took a big swig of Edge Juice, and then made this game. A bit too much running around in giant rooms before you unlock the horse, but they don't make you go in the REALLY big rooms until after the horse, so clearly this was a tuning issue rather than a structure issue. Zelda-esque puzzles with really fun combat. Best to play around Halloween (or the next time some charlatan predicts the end…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good and fun game. Excellent remaster. Received huge technical updates in 2026 to increase performance, fix some issues (FPS-dependent camera for example) and adding SSAO, which is all amazing. Developer KAIKO is showing again that they know their audience. Hope that the new 2026 version can have its shader-compilation stutter issue fixed. While I know that that is a really complicated issue to solve, it would really make this new updated version the ultimate way of playing the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was jonesing for a 360/PS3 era game and a replay of Darksiders scratched that itch. No skill trees, no endless loot drops to manage, no bloat... Just a lean action game you can finish in 15 ish hours. The dungeons hold up pretty well too. It's kinda hard to put down once you're in the thick of it. The combat is kinda basic and there's a shooter section that drags a bit, but hey it wouldn't be the 360 era without one of those. Now I kinda want to revisit II and play III and Genesis for the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Darksiders plays like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Devil May Cry had a baby, on a budget. It's mostly linear, has a story, there's a bunch of platforming and puzzles, and there's a lot of combat where you hack and slash through things with combos. None of it's as slick as the aforementioned games, but it gets close enough to be fun. Despite being the oldest game in the franchise, Darksiders Warmastered Edition is the least problematic of the lot. It plays great on ultrawide displays,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8/10 This little gem from the PS3 era is an old school action adventure game, with a pre-Dark souls and pre-Ubi Soft philosophy. The lore is gothic, the model design is cartoonish, very reminiscent of the World of Warcraft aesthetic (you basically play as Arthas) I find it very entertaining and relaxing, far removed from today's neverending ubisoft collecting games, or very hard Dark Souls games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing Soul Reaver recently encouraged me to return to Darksiders Warmastered Edition (2016), which happily now has a photo mode following a recent update.
unlabelledView post →abysmal, brings steams requirements of steamdeck verified into question, no key prompts show in tutorials and qtes, audio is super choppy, cutsecenes are more likely to crash the game than to play and if you can tolerate the above, the game is very lkley to crash after 15 minutes of play time
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Darksiders comes from that 360/PS3 era where most developers were straight up cooking and this game is one of the very best from that time and supremely underrated IMHO. The simplest way to describe this.... its a 3D Metroidvania that leans a bit heavier on the action and a bit less on the exploration and your character is a bulky dude who doesn't talk much (thank God). I've played through, to completion, multiple times on different platforms and the PC version is probably the best of all…

I was looking forward to playing this game again, hopefully they will fix it, and ill update my review because this game is awesome
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →love darksiders, I really do, but I cant give this game a thumb up, broken audio and glitches ruin the experience havent played it for a few years and got a steam deck thinking I could play all the DS games, but this still doesnt work and with the minidump pop up it is completely unplayable, the other games work fine, please nordic fix this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Darksiders Warmastered Edition brings renewed polish to a beloved classic, offering sharper visuals and smoother performance while preserving everything that gave the original its identity. The blend of action, exploration, and Zelda-style dungeon puzzles still works incredibly well, and the bold, comic-inspired art direction gives every scene and character a mythic presence. Playing as War feels powerful and iconic, a Horseman of the Apocalypse who, in a perfect twist of irony, is trying to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The dialogue in this game and War’s character are things of a rarity seldom seen nowadays, the closest thing I can remember to be similar is the most recent DOOM and its mighty Slayer. The dude’s name is WAR, and his horse’s name is RUIN, cannot get any more manly than this. War is voiced by a legendary voice actor that your ears are sure to recognize, and if not, then to admire, at the very least. While the game is old, and, mind you, this is the remastered version, it has some jank and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pure nostalgia. I first played Darksiders on Xbox 360 as a kid, and coming back to it through the Warmastered Edition felt like time travel. This game is tangled up with memories of sneaking the console on way too late knowing I had school in the morning I got caught more than once and it was always worth it. The combat and camera can feel a little stiff and slow compared to what's out now, and the pacing drags in spots. But that's part of the charm for me it's got that early-2010s God of War…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neutral score. Classic game from the Xbox 360 era, played on Steam Deck and works fine. The game was decent back in the day but today leaves little to be desired. Story is a little confusing, the hack and slash elements are quite basic and boring, there is a huge emphasis on puzzles and platforming which are both pretty boring, enemies are bland and there's not much variety. The game kinda outstayed its welcome after about 5 hours.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game takes me back to a simpler time in gaming. Old school fun romp of days gone by. Can't recommend it enough.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The ultimate "Gamer's game" from the 360-era that's difficult, but acknowledges skill and the player's time. No area really outstays its welcome and the game regularly introduces new fun mechanics, weapons, mission types and content to keep things interesting and always, always moving forward. The only downside from recollection are the controls that can get convoluted (but managable over time) and doesn't always listen to what you're inputting. Combine that with certain combos and areas can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Darksiders series is one of my favorites in all the videogames I've played. It takes a unique narrative approach to the classic angels vs demons biblical story, allowing archangels and demon lords to take up side character roles to let the four horsemen of the apocalypse have the limelight. This first game focuses its character narrative around War, who is much more honor/duty-bound in focus, and approaches everything very seriously. The voice acting throughout is enjoyable and enhances…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As long as you don't have to mess with cutscenes auto skipping it is still a very fun game that has held up over time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An Iconic Game that Worth Playing 📖 Intriguing story along with interesting characters, especially the main character: War 🎮 Fun & Engaging gameplay, mix between several genres such as action, puzzle solving and RPG elements. The game provides various ability and combos that blends smoothly and combine with the ease of movement make the whole experience pretty enjoyable for a long time. 🖥️ Great visual, especially the higher resolution textures, better lighting and shadows in this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd give it neutral if that was possible. TLDR: the combats cool enough, but the puzzles and ♥♥♥♥ are too much for my taste Positives: - Combat is fun enough for such an old game. There's combos, some basic active and passive abilities, different weapons and so on. - There are a lot of things to unlock, such a special moves and abilities as i've mentioned above. It shouldn't really surprise anyone to be able to unlock stuff, but i've expected no such things from such an old game so yeah -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm truly grateful that this game paved the way for the subsequent entries in the series. While the concept (angels vs. demons ,Horsemen, etc) is very appealing, the gameplay and puzzles leave much to be desired. Honestly, I would never play this game again; I had to force myself to finish it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good game by itself and very good remaster too (no technical issue). I would say that it aged very well but I might not be the most objective: I liked the original game quite a lot back in the days. Still the best Darksiders game as of today IMO.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game #25 // Darksiders: Warmastered Edition Finally got around to playing this years later and enjoyed it. Love the old school God of War and Zelda vibes. Looking forward to checking out the other games in the series. #2025GamesComplete
unlabelledView post →Darksiders Warmastered Edition would have gotten a good review from me - up until the very last dungeon (The Black Throne), where the game crashed 3 times within a few hours. This is on 3 different hardware too - a gaming PC, a gaming laptop, and an Xbox ROG Ally handheld. Before that point, it was running perfectly fine. But I can't recommend this game in good faith with all of the crahses.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed it quite a lot! I'm not really a fan of the art style, specially the character design that seems like it was drawned by a 14 year old sense of what is cool, but the world design is pretty good, as are the dungeons and puzzles clearly heavily inspired by Zelda and Metroidvania. Story was meh, that's mostly the reason why my progress was so slow. When I was not playing I didnt really feel the urge to return, however when I finally did play, I usually did long sessions because the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spectacular action: Dynamic battles with lots of combos, achievements and spectacular abilities. Diverse gameplay: The game combines action, puzzles, world exploration and platformer elements. The charismatic protagonist: War is one of the most memorable protagonists of the series due to his design and character. World design: The locations are made in a gloomy post-apocalyptic style with interesting dungeons and secrets. Boss Battles: Large-scale and diverse battles require the use of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is not verified for Steam Deck! It needs fix cutscenes skip bug
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I came back to play this after completing it on the Xbox 360; I forgot how good this game was. It is a top tier hack and slash game. A unique story, excellent combat system and well done RPG elements blend well to make this game a standout in the genre. It has aged particularly well, it has room for improvement which the sequels managed to address. However, on its own it is brilliant. I definitely would recommend this game as a must play for fans of the genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, this is my brutally honest review. I got this game back on the PS3 almost a decade ago and I got so bored of it, I stopped playing and sold the game, I thought it was similiar to God of War. I tried playing it again on the PS4 in the Warmastered version and still got bored, nothing was changed from my initial playthrough. I hate this game so much, not for because its bad, because the pacing of the story is so rigid and the amount of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ puzzles this game has is atrocious. Its not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Audio glitching in the cutscene, crashed twice in just 15 mins, not recommend for the Deck. Funny how it said "verified".
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you plan on buying this for the steamdeck thinking that it pays great? Take my word and don't. Stating that the game is verified on the steam deck is an absolute joke. Revoke the status and do some proper testing again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Similar to God of War, but addictive. Rating 8/10 I enjoyed playing it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The definitive worst way to play the first Darksiders. From enemies attacking you during cutscenes, attacks that never land costing you a lot of health in a game where health is scarce, enemires can attack you during glory kills (which are un-skippable cutscenes btw). They added the most usless cutscenes on the planet to show you a door opening like wow that door unlocked when i beat all the enemies the room its not like ive been doing this exact same thing for the past 3 hours or something.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been unable to even finish the tutorial section due to crashes almost every cutscene on my Steam Deck. What solutions I have found have been awkward at best (downloading 3rd party mods) Edit to the above, it seems to work fine on my PC, but the cutscenes are too easily skipable, which may be why it hasn't crashed
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, sets out to clear his name after being accused by the Charred Council, a powerful governing body that exists to maintain balance between the realms, of starting the apocalypse that wiped out humanity. The major characters have unique designs and distinguishable features that make them memorable. The ending also works well as a cliffhanger that leaves room for potential future games, and the story ends up being serviceable, it provides enough…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A hidden gem. The combat is fun and satisfying, the story is unique, and the puzzles are mostly enjoyable. Some puzzles, especially in the Tower area, can be annoying and confusing. War is a great character, and if you like God of War-style combat with puzzles and exploration, definitely give this a try. It’s also very cheap during sales, so it’s an easy recommendation.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Darksider is a game that you get when Legend of Zelda & God of War have a baby The game is a simple 360/PS3-era game, a good hack-and-slash with an open-ended-style map. It has very big ambition and excels at least in half of them, while it neither fails completely, it does stumble in the other half. The Positives * Great art style, still holds up * Good PC port * Decent hack-and-slash action gameplay * Interesting story (though it could have been told better) The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A gorgeous War rider game. Dark tones, Gothic architecture, beautifully crafted landscape, crafting system, weapons and destruction. In some moments I got lost, I had to use YouTube, but the game is really awesome. Definitely in the collection.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10 Game wasn't difficult at all played it in 2026 for the first time and it was decently fun. The difficulty I played was Apocaplyse! The game is definitely dated when it comes to difficulty especially with what we have currently God of War or Elden Ring and some other hard ass games. Soundtrack is okay. I did really enjoy the puzzles. The artsyle is decent nothing crazy and my favourite looking boss was the Abyssal Gladiator the one you get Ruin(Horse) from. Nothing else to say but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The presentation, acting, environment and character designs are all top notch and speak to a fantastic level of production. I really liked the dungeon exploration and puzzles. People say it's zelda-like, but I've never played a Zelda game before, so I can only speak to how well it works here: very. I just wish they had the foresight to not let you backtrack into spaces where there's nothing left to do, and even if there are collectibles about, you can only access most of them with new tools…
