Dancer in the Dark
Selma, a Czech immigrant on the verge of blindness, struggles to make ends meet for herself and her young son, who has inherited the same genetic disorder and will suffer the same fate without an expensive operation. When life becomes increasingly difficult, Selma learns to cope through her love of musicals, dreaming up little numbers to the rhythmic beats of her surroundings. From TMDB

Yes, that’s right! “Dancer in the Dark” We also made the mistake of seeing the movie *before* dinner. When I tell you it was the quietest thai meal I have ever had…😬😬
unlabelledView post →God this scene from Sinners. I long for a version of the film that went further, Dancer in the Dark-style, close to full-on musical. I wonder, actually, if that style was ever on the table.

Thanks for, among many others, Mark of the Devil, Flesh for Frankenstein, Blood for Dracula, Suspiria, My Own Private Idaho, Shadow of the Vampire, Dancer in the Dark and The Kingdom. And Swan Song, such a deliciously camp and moving late film.

I did laugh at the part in “Dancer in the Dark” where Björk bashes a man’s head in with a safety deposit box whilst sobbing. It’s a pretty grim movie but that at least got a belly laugh. Can’t say the same for the ending, though.
