A Single Man
Set in Los Angeles in 1962, at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, is the story of a British college professor who dwells on the past and cannot see his future. We follow him through a single day, where a series of events and encounters ultimately lead him to decide if there is a meaning to life after the death of his long time partner, Jim. From TMDB

neutral · AI labelView post →I knew Tom Ford as a designer before I knew he was also a filmmaker and I loved NOCTURNAL ANIMALS. Today I discovered his directorial debut, A SINGLE MAN (2009), a dizzingly gorgeous portrayal of grief, love, and the beauty of life. Incredible film. #filmsky
positive · AI labelView post →This is one of my favourite drawings I’ve done inspired by the Carlos scene from the movie A Single Man. I didn’t like the movie, but I liked that scene the way it lingered on his eyes and mouth and the colours light up putting you in Colin Firth’s pov that he is literally lit up for a moment.
negative · AI labelView post →For Valentine's day, instead of something new, let me share this 10+ year old fanart I did of a wonderful movie (A Single Man by Tom Ford). I still remember seeing it in the theater all these years ago, and having a major existential crisis afterwards :D
positive · AI labelView post →Today's movie recommendation is "A Single Man". A period romantic drama based on the 1964 novel by Christopher Isherwood, the film explores the life of a man mourning his partner in a world that doesn't allow him to even acknowledge the relationship existed. Beautiful & heartbreaking. #Movies

neutral · AI labelView post →Saw a rec list of films for “more like Heated Rivalry” and it contained A Single Man. Girl. You absolutely SHOULD watch A Single Man. But know it’s a film about profound gay grief in a time you couldn’t express said grief. It’s beautiful. To compare it to the HEA in Heated Rivalry is diabolical.

neutral · AI labelView post →watched at home, A Single Man (2009) don’t let the movie poster fool you, this film is about Colin Firth playing a gay depressed man who has all the attractive young men throwing themselves at him when he’s really going through it (and by ‘it’ I mean the Depression)
neutral · AI labelView post →Lee is also connected to Tom Ford in that Ford is also an amazing film director who made a devastating movie called A Single Man about a man trying to get over the death of his boyfriend by distracting himself with Lee Pace (it’s and adaptation of a Christopher Isherwood story).
neutral · AI labelView post →This is interesting. I’ve always felt A Single Man is a pretty outstanding, beautiful film, even as if it comes up very rarely these days. I’m not sure why it’s kind of fallen into semi-obscurity. variety.com/2025/film/ne...

The most beautiful, sensual gay love and loss story in years. And Nocturnal Animals was pretty decent too.

unlabelledView post →Watched A Single Man tonight. This was yet another movie I tried watching years ago but wasn't feeling it so I switched it off. I didn't turn it off this time but I still wasn't feeling it. I also wasn't terribly into the book when I read it college. 🤷♂️
unlabelledView post →A Single Man—Tom Ford At times, it feels like watching a Wong Kar-wai film. Ford seems less concerned with story than with sensation. What is captured here so brilliantly is that loneliness is not empty, but filled with the weight of everything once longed to be kept. #FilmReview #Cinema
