unlabelledView post →Watched I Hired a Contract Killer tonight on Mubi, the sort of film I’d have read about in the turn-of-the-eighties Melody Maker but never saw at the time. The English dialogue is wooden, but otherwise it’s fascinating.

The dvd case says Hitman, the titles say Hitman, the poster on letterboxd says Hitman. imdb says Hitman - but the title on @letterboxd.social is 'Contract Killer'. Er. (also there is attempted romance in this. Oh bless. You're just not good at it.)

unlabelledView post →Contract Killer (originally released as Hitman) was sadly kind of dull. Too many plot threads, none of which are resolved satisfactorily. Unfortunately the subpar dub only compounds this problem, so I don't fully blame the movie. At least the top goon had a neat gimmick with his flashlight fingers
unlabelledView post →Contract Killer was a first viewing for me too, loved it. Le Havre is one of my favourites, right next to the film that followed it - The Other Side of Hope...
unlabelledView post →"I Hired a Contract Killer" (1990) by Aki Kaurismäki is the most hopeful movie I've seen (or rather: reseen) in a very long time.
