36 of 36 · most liked firstTLDR; I didn't finish the game. Wait for a Sale. A deep one. I was actually kinda looking forward to this game, seeing the sprites and 8bit remixes on ArcSys' twitter, but now that the game is out, I am really disappointed. I could not give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about the 6teen lookin characters and their office troubles. the gameplay itself is okay, but box after box after box of narrative that I just cant get into is kinda agonizing. Plus being forced to use the main girls netnavi looking thing and the…

When I first saw the store page, I saw a bunch of characters from BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, and the River City series, all series that I enjoy. So when I saw all of those characters together in one game (a game published by Arc System Works at that), I just had to check it out. Well, as it turns out, I was tricked into playing a mediocre action platformer that just happens to have those characters in it. At…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The idea of the game is neat, seeing all the ARC characters being used is nice, lil nostalgia. There's tons of music for all your fave franchises, and all of the main story game is in service to unlokcing cxharacters for a " smash bros " style game using Arc systems chars, " colorful fighters " but here's my problems 30 fps locked. which I guess is alright if they animted to 30-fps, but in the offic scenarios, everything jitters and is blurry when you move - clear sign it should be 60 fps.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played a few missions and got to what I think is the first boss. Game is a fun and relaxing platformer that pays homage to arcsys' history with characters from Guilty Gear, Blazblue, River City, etc. The 8bit renditions of characters and their theme songs are definitely my favorite part of the game. Game is solid for $15. I got what I was expecting. That being said, the framerate is locked at 30fps which is very noticeable. The hub area of the game looks choppy when you move around. It's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More of an ad than a game In essence, this game is a less than mediocre action platformer with poor aesthetics and gameplay. Nothing really stands out besides the ArcSys characters being involved. The combat and platforming are simple and quickly get boring. Level design is incredibly poor, so most levels feel the same aside from some flying levels which aren't anything special either. It really feels like someone's first platformer in every regard. In terms of aesthetics, the overall look is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Collect all the characters from the Arc System Works franchises!ヽ(=´▽`=)ノ" Intro CODE SHIFTER. It is an arcade action game produced by LAND HO! and published by Arc System Works. As you may know, Land Ho! is a Japanese video game development company founded(1999) by the former Sega marketer. Regarding game production, it seems to have been mainly outsourcing or subcontracting. The reason mentioned them first is that knowing the developer's background can help you understand the game as a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok so I can imagine the people who bought this game as of right now are here for the super smash bros part... yes the game does have that but you'll need to do the story mode in order to collect them... in my opinion o well, I enjoy the sprites and I enjoy the 8-bit music you they made of their own themes. Anyway I wish everyone luck in getting all those characters!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of current projects is editing together proper soundtracks for Code Shifter. Not a great game by any means, but the chiptunes featuring Arc System Works characters kick ass.
unlabelledView post →I made it roughly halfway through the game, and I don't think it's going to get any better. So the reason why you're looking at this game is the same reason anyone does - the army of ASW characters thrown into a platforming game together. That's not enough to make this game, and really, even if it didn't have the huge cast of cameos the game wouldn't play very different from how it does now. Each level works something like this: You start as Sera, the avatar of the programmer main character…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a complete disappointment. Skip this game. Not even worth the sale price of $5. The "negative" reviews got this right, but there's a couple of things I would like to add. First: The game is just bad. Platforming is barebones, maps are dull and uninspiring. Fighting is clunky and extremely bad, which is surprising being this an ARCSys game, and also because there's a lot of Metroidvanias and Roguelike in 2d with great fighting mechanisms, so you would think they would make an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sorry Arc I want to love this game. I Really do. But I just can't. And it really hurts to write this review as i'm a huge fan of Arc's games ever since the very first guilty gear game back in 98. But this Arc... This is beneath you as a company. This lacks the care and effort the games you publish are known for and lack of a better term feels lazy. I love this concept and I even like the characters. But that just isn't enough. This whole game screams mobile port. I checked and it's not on any…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →kinda tricked, this feels like an indi project someone at arc systems got a green light to release. its pretty bad and the only plus is the sprites.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Frequently called "ARC's Smash Bros", Code Shifter really isn't, but it manages to be pretty fun as its own thing, if you can get past some bad first-impressions. Let's get those out of the way first. Code Shifter's plot is overall a missed opportunity for fun, as it never lets the many crossover characters it features function as autonomous beings who react to each other's presence or have any interactions with each other beyond fighting. Instead, they're rendered just parts of a computer…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Utter Disappointment You had a chance to really shine with Colorful Fighters and you did not. You have the roster. Put the work in..... TL;DR Sub par platformer with a joke of a Versus mode (Colorful Fighters) Music and Concept? 10/10 Execution? 1/10 Final Product? 4/10. Even as a fan of Arc... I was looking forward to a game. If I want pure nostalgia, ill watch Youtube videos

unlabelledView post →Got it on a good sale, no regrets. The main game is a mediocre platformer. The hunt for character unlocks was pretty fun (the EX stages). The platfighter mode is basically a second game for free that you access inside the main game. Kill a Saturday unlocking all the characters. Beat your friends up in a game they've never played on Sunday. Replay value would probably depend on how much you play the 1-4 player platfighter mode.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was really excited for this game, but it unfortunately plays really poorly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →there's an Arcsys game called Code Shifter that kind of came and went in early 2020 that has some very nice chiptune GG/BB themes www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLaM...
unlabelledView post →Code Shifter is a fun, fast-paced tribute to Arc System Works' history. The platform action is enjoyable, as you take on a series of stages with an aim to hit the S Rank. The fighting game mode is the highlight—letting you battle it out with characters from games like Double Dragon, Kunio Kun, Guilty Gear and many more. It's a fantastic game that fans of classic Arc System games will absolutely love.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay is good,My laptop is potato...so i enjoyed the game because I can play the game in my laptop,The size is small too,but for 100k in IDR ,I think it was still expensive for me
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a lot of hate stirring for this game from fans of fighting games who couldn't be bothered to at least look at the gameplay videos of this game (even the trailer) The game appeals to everyone and aims for a basic story and easily enjoyable experience. Code Shifter is an action platformer that uses the cast from various ARC games to help keep the game play fresh and rewarding. The combat is nothing of that of a fighting game and do not expect to get a whole bunch out of the mini party…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its not very good unfortunately.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ROTF one of the staff members in my building was asking about what games I have, so I showed her my Google sheet I periodically update. For some reason, she stopped on Code Shifter. “Funny you mention that game…” Showed her some stuff I’ve been working on and also to d/l the iRainwave app😁
unlabelledView post →I didn't think I would boot this saying "Guilty Gear Dust Strikers is a better game", but here we are. If you wanted a fighting game out of this like some of the screenshots suggest it is, you need to first go find a 100% save file (yes really), and then you'll find out that nobody gets stunned by any hit. So characters are just aimlessly running around spamming attacks. Incredible. I'm not touching this further.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is actually so fun dude
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a good spin on what I normally play with these kind of games. The platforming and power ups do add a fun spin on gameplay and the story is still keeping me on my feet. The vs mode is nice to have as an optional cross over fighting game system
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game has the feel of a 3 dollar mobile game, which is what it should of been. pros: - Puzzles using the different character types are fun - Graphics look nice, especially the pixel art - A wide cast of characters from different arc sys games (I've only played guilty gear oh well) - One of the three (technically 5) games with Bedman from Guilty Gear Cons - There are a lot of sections where you have to pause and fight a lot of enemies, slowing down the pace by a lot - The game is very…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's honestly not that bad tbh, just don't expect too much
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very boring. The story was pretty bland and forgettable. The stages were just generic tech landscape with nothing to differentiate themselves from each other. The character switching mechanic was unneeded and added no depth to the game. To make matters worse the 2d pixel art doesn't mesh with the rest of the game. The upgrade system was laughable. For example you get like a 1% upgrade to damage or jumping and each one of those types takes a slot and you only have like 10 slots you can use.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The core game is simply best put as Subspace Emmisary without any charm. The characters border on being glorified powerups, you can't choose to just play through a level with one, you're instead going to be playing as the main character's avatar fir at least some of it. On that note, the sheer mismatch of the assets between the established ASW characters and the rest of the game's style makes me wonder if this wasn't an unrelated project that was given said characters midway through as they…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was pretty fun, it could be better but a good game, so let me start with the good, it has a nice variety of characters to use albeit 8-bit but that's really the main charm of the game and why people would and should buy it, each character has their signature moves as well as specials as well as environmental uses on top of that in which they cleverly make it so you have to use multiple different characters and let's you get a feel for them and their weaknesses and strengths and as an added…
