It saddens me to say this about what USED to be on par to be the greatest city building game of all time but Cities: Skylines doesn’t just have a DLC problem. it has a full‑blown DLC addiction, and the players are the ones footing the rehab bill. 72 DLC. Let me say that again, 72. That’s not a game, that’s a car note. The total cost? $453. For a city builder. Not a luxury cruise. Not a GPU. A city builder.…

INVISIBLE CITIES really asks you to buy in. How to describe it? I could tell you, I suppose, that it's a dreamy travelogue of invented cities—

unlabelledView post →When I originally bought this game it was great, but a while after my purchase, Paradox introduced a launcher (that gives them access to all your data) and because I don't agree to give them open access to my data, I can no longer play the game that I legally paid for. Big thumbs down for that. I won't be buying any more Paradox owned or published games.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As community-friendly and accredited as this game is, I recently came across quite possibly the worst consumer scam in the video game market when I was trying to get back into Cities Skylines. As a preface, I switched to console gaming a long time ago. So when I stopped using my computer, I downloaded Cities Skylines on my PS4. Over a period of about 4-5 ish weeks, I put money aside to buy DLC until I had it all. Mind you, Paradox's model is literally DLC centered! Nearly all of their…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Constant updates break the entire game if it's modded. And it MUST be modded because the vanilla version is so lame it's unbearable. Paradox seems fixated on pastel cartoonish colors and buildings that look ubsurdly rediculous. The constant breaking with updates has made this the BY FAR most frustrating, enraging game of my entire life.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved the game but... JESUS CHRIST PARADOX, STOP TURNING EVERYTHING YOU TOUCH IN A BLOODY DLC HELL FFS!!! YOU GREEDY BASTARDS. Edit: OH! AND I DON'T NEED ANOTHER BUGGED LAUNCHER.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have almost 600 hours this game. I LOVE cities skylines. It's my most played game on steam for crying out loud. But making me AGREE to you collecting my "personal data" to even play the game now? It's absolutely insane, no way am I agreeing to letting you collect my data for a single player game. Sad to say I won't be playing again, hopefully others follow in my footsteps after this insane update.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Installing it after a long time away, it now comes with spyware. If you opt out of data collection you cannot play the game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alongside Prison Architect, this is the other game in my collection that I can't even look at anymore because of what Paradox did to it. This one is especially insulting because Cities: Skylines was supposed to be an alternative to consumer-unfriendly city builders. Now you can buy "content creator packs" or you can put ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ plazas in your game for the same price as buying Stardew Valley outright. Wouldn't care so much if it didn't subtly advertise the stuff you were missing out on at all…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game but 10$ but not at 200$ (for all the dlc) nah honestly this company makes good games but are too greedy
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just a guy hoping that tomorrow evenings Mariners-Twins game is rained out so they schedule a Tuesday day game as part of a doubleheader so that I can actually attend one of the 3 Mariners game in the Twin Cities.
unlabelledView post →Greedy. You bought the game and a few DLCs years ago. You decide to play it again and find out that your DLCs are now locked behind a subscription pay model. So you think to yourself, that's fine, I'll play other maps then - NOPE, all available maps are locked behind DLCs you haven't purchased. So now you have two choices, buy a DLC ($15+) or buy a monthly subscription. Highway robbery, and unethical. It was a great game too, but honestly look elsewhere.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's been some time since I've played this game. I open the game up and I'm bombard with legal agreements and an account creation prompt. I go through the policies and go to the home menu and I'm locked out of my save! I bought this game when it first released and there was no account needed. why am I being forced to give you all my data just to play a game I paid for before this ridiculous requirement.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would recommend this game BUUUUUT I would not recommend a Subscription. Perfect way to ruin a game. Listen Paradox! I get you have to make money but NO ONE can pay every Freaking studio a subscription to play one or more games! Not to mention we all pay to watch things on TV, pay for apps, video players, software, car, home insurance, you get me. You know freaking life's important things. We can't pay for more than the game itself. You want people to make money how about putting out freaking…

unlabelledView post →This game was originally created as a competitor to EA's SimCity since their latest game back then was an always-online garbage heap. This game has gone the exact same path, with Paradox's assistance, straight to the deepest pits of every gaming Inferno. The amount of piecemeal DLC alone is trademark Paradox - if I ever wanted to get back into the game I'd be completely lost and unable to enjoy any of it. This is atrociously anti-consumer, and it's shameful, and bitterly disappointing because…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game but the dlcs are quite expensive, I wish the developers would merge all the dlcs into one season pass at half the price of the main game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game makes me feel like an evil city designer who has decided to destroy the lives of constituents by making the roads as hostile as possible with constant tornadoes and tsunamis. 10/10, would recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At its core, this is a genuinely strong city building simulation that successfully recaptures the feeling of classic titles like SimCity. There’s a real sense of satisfaction in watching your city grow from a small town into a sprawling urban center, and the foundation is undeniably solid. That said, the game does a poor job of onboarding new players. It starts you off with very limited tools and explanations, and the tutorial feels either too barebones or poorly paced. I found myself having to…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disappointed that the dev decided to make a new mod breaking update 2 years after the release of CS2 now my city with many hours invested wont load. Not saying this game is not fun, just be aware that the dev dont repect the modder community and ecosystem which is what really made the game a gem.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First, the elephant in the room: I have over 3000 hours in Cities:Skylines. Clearly it’s a game that I have enjoyed over the years. And yet here I am giving it a “not recommended.” Am I just salty over a single bad expansion? Well, yes and no. I have no intention of buying Race Day, and no intention to pass judgment on its quality or lack thereof, a task which I will leave to others. But I do intend to pass judgment on the latest patch, and the decision by Paradox to restart development…

unlabelledView post →After seeing that Cities: Skylines 2 is still being “finished” - although I’m glad it’s in a much better state now than it was at launch - I finally decided (bought some free time) to check out how the original game holds up after all these years. Just as it did when it first came out, this city-building simulator can still swallow up hours of your life. For a casual player like me, it has become the definitive city-building experience: during the first hour, you have to carefully balance…

unlabelledView post →I was struggling with Skylines for weeks while my late brother lay dead in his apartment on April 21st. For some reason, I kept having pollution problems because of how I positioned the pipes in the city. Residents were unhappy, so I redesigned everything—but it still didn’t work. Later, I found out I needed more crematoriums, and for some reason there weren’t enough in the city. Every time I rebuilt, I kept facing the same issue: not enough places for the dead. And then tragedy hit. I got a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cities: Skylines is an exceptional game that hooked me in immediately. It is so incredibly addictive and satisfying planning and building cities. That being said, the learning curve is somewhat steep. You'll definitely need to look up guides for road layouts and traffic management, for example, as these can become a problem pretty fast. My only other gripe is the diabolical amount of DLCs present. While the base game is fine on its own, there is so much additional content unfortunately locked…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game realized my dream, it brought me back to those childhood days when I spent hours and hours planning cities on sheets of paper. heartfelt thanks to the development and publishing teams.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You will need to spend over $300 (ON SALE!) for the full game. I have never seen a developer drop so many DLC's to one game, making it disgustingly expensive for new players to get all the content. And on top of that, they add a subscription plan... A SUBSCRIPTION FOR ONE GAME... The level of greed from this developer is on another level. It's not even worth it on sale.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good and fun game but after a while it gets repetetive and boring
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is solely negative because of adding subscriptions as a way to get DLCs. Never in my life will I buy another Paradox / Colossal Order game. The game was totally fantastic and I loved it for years, but then the CS2 was kinda ♥♥♥♥ but whatever. But then because that game didn't do well they plan to milk their old game even harder.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having played the game since it first was released I should probably write a review after having played it for 10 years. This is still one of my favorite games in 2025 going to 2026, highly recommended. I've owned it on pretty much all platforms and even though I'm sad to see the following Cities 2 game didn't quite reach the level of the earlier Cities Skylines, I feel like the reason might simply be that there's not that much to improve overall. It would be great to have had some features in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly fun and addicting. Got ~40hrs on record on a copy of the game I had before deciding it was worth buying. I've also seen some people complain about the paradox launcher; just use: "..\steamapps\common\Cities_Skylines\Cities.exe" %command% in Launch Options to launch right into the game instead. (".." obviously being wherever you keep Steam installed).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An amazing game for those who wish to build a city, however there's so much that mods and DLCs add that without them the game feels ugly and empty.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I adore this game to bits. I have over 1,000 hours logged as of writing. HOWEVER, with the absurd amount of DLCs and the huge price-to-play price for the full experience, as well as the devs intentionally breaking mods with the Race Day update and absolutely no given way to go hack to the previous version to sustain mod support. I cannot in my good conscience recommend you buy this game in 2026. The same can still be said for CSL2 as it lacks a bunch of content. It is unfortunate to see a…
