60 of 161 · most liked firstComing from a negative review of a golf game, here I have another one that surprisingly requires something like 38mbs to install. Though, this game features a lot of tags - action, retro, golf, comedy, sports, indie.. And actually it manages, within a REALLY vintage environment, to create something funny and interesting that lasts for hours - at least 5 hours if you want to complete the whole game, which features 3 chapters and something like 140 different levels. The game itself is lovely -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Throw just a dash of 'Pony Island' attitude into an Atari 2600 minigolf game, and then take a mild hallucinogen of your choosing. You've now created 'Cheap Golf'. Very fun, though I will warn you it is NOT easy. I won this game from a speedrun contest of another Pixeljam published game (Rex: Another Island, which is stupdendous btw), but it was already on my wishlist and I would've bought it eventually anyway.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple mechanic well executed. A good experiment to show how much you can remove from a game - fancy graphics, complex gameplay - and still be left with a fun game. Now can anyone tell me how to complete level 30?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like GLaDOS and the Uncle Who Works for Nintendo had a baby, and that baby was Atari 2600's Adventure but also Pong.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cheap golf is a game. You click a large dot. You drag away from a white dot. SUSAN tries to murder a little dot. You hope for a best. I'm going to marry Susan. She's MINE.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine it's 1978 and the NSA is stealth-testing a sentient supercomputer disguised as a dank arcade golf game. Highly recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's one of those experimental games. I do kind of like it. The level designs are varied and often slapdash, offering a very mixed experience both in terms of quality and difficulty curve -- which leads to my primary gripe with the game, actually controlling the power of your shots. The amount of power with which you will most commonly want to hit is somewhere between ~8% and ~25% of the maximum distance you can pull back for a shot, and the difference between that 8% and 25% is a matter of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ever wanted to play a creepy arcade style mini golf game under the guidance of an intrusive AI? Me neither, but this game is surprisingly fun and pleasingly simple: You just need your mouse and its left button. The game is most likely inspired by Miniture Golf (1978) for the Atari 2600, where "the characters of Pong went to play golf", as the AVGN once said. More or less this wisdom counts for Cheap Golf, too. [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/39372135]Lists of Niche is dedicated to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly... It plays like a cheap flash game. The story isn't interesting, the whole game gets boring after the first few levels, the difficulty is super inequal and the gameplay barely improve. It's just more and more and more of the same.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →as the official Cheap Golf World Champion, i feel uniquely qualified to declare that its fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →went FULL BOOP FLING / 10 gameplay SUSAN was pleased.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cheap Golf is a free browser game/web app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a fully fledged PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy web developers. This browser app is a thematic ripoff of Pony Island, although in this case the computer is a rogue AI and you end up playing a minimalist mobile app style minigolf with it. Like Pony Island, however, it does have absolutely crap phoned in graphics, but what do you expect from a free browser game? Oh, and the developer wants you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let's get this straight (actually not possible, but let's pretend): What is this? It's is like Deadpool is coding an Atari 2000 game, and while he is not good at making a fancy game he is great at talking trash. No, in fact, it's a way to pass time by behaving like we are playing a video game while we are actually not? Maybe something slightly different but we are getting closer... I think - but what do I know?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Charming and fun for about 10 minutes, then becomes extremely tedious as you replay insta-death levels again and again and again and... After 20 minutes I grew weary of beating my head against the wall. Any play time after that is idling for cards. I would have paid money for this because I've always loved mini-golf style games. I'm so happy I got it in a giveaway, because I would have felt burned, even at less than $1
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Design constraints and non-sequiturs go on a golf outing—10/10!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's… not very good. This is one of those games were many people like it, and some just don't. It tries very hard to be funny, in a fourth wall-breaking, Portal-style comedy, but for me it comes off as annoying and cheap. I guess I should have expected it from the name. The graphical and sound style are nice, but at the same time, it feels like the game doesn't know where to go with its style. It's like when ads or cartoons have an 8-bit segment, but it's a bit half-assed because while the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice "AI" text comedy with some very challenging stages. Worth the time to play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have to be honest, the gameplay is just dreadfully unengaging. The narrative doesn't really appear to be going anywhere, either. A neat aesthetic, but that's it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like true golf this game is played against oneself and the inanimate green. There are infinite ways to complete a stage and the same infinity to perfect the stage. The quest for the perfect putt generates a great deal of repeated plays, frustration and elation. So many games that cost ten or twenty times this game's price fail to achieve such value.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →there's a bunch of golf games, cheap as well. none has susan inside. luckily. its best idea? tag this as "Sports".
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a rare game with humor. The downside is that it is a minigolf one. At least it runs well on a potato. It seems to be about a couple of hours long. I got it from a Fanatical Mystery Bundle.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I mean if you love to suffer I guess this is the game for you. Honestly if they just had a setting to disable "Click to fire" Or "Drag and Release" it'd be much more tolerable. I was constantly getting stuck in the "Click to fire" mode when trying to Drag and fire during parts where you need to make quick adjustments or launch very fast, which would get me killed. I still finished it though, so I guess that counts for something.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty entertaining, some of the levels are just ridiculous. Plus the texts between the levels are pretty weird but give you at great atmosphere
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better than you are expecting. Cheap Golf is a mix of the expected miniature golf, puzzle levels, timing and precision levels, and a few that could best be described as mini-dungeons. About four hours of gameplay. And as all the other reviews suggest, you get a bit of framing story and characterization in the form of Susan, who you will inevitably compare to GLaDOS but is a different sort of snarky AI guiding and taunting you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly is a pretty decent physics type puzzler with a portal/thomas was alone type vibe
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The writing isn't captivating and the annoyances seem to only exist to further this atmosphere. I personally didn't really enjoy the actual gameplay, but would be willing to finish it all, had it not been for the unnecessary distractions and jank that comes with the teleporters.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ooh its like an art piece so i dont get it... yeah no this game is designed to be anger inducing its not actually good in the slightest 1 hour of my time was wasted playnig this game and i wish i could have it back.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is actually one of the most frustrating games id ever played in my entire life, i love the aesthetic but the rest of it can go to hell. The gameplay goes from playable and fun to almost impossible and siezure inducing over and over again, I really don't know where I really stand with this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →eh? It's kinda like golf where you guide a ball into a hole (despite the actual shapes being squareish but the point stands). The gimmick is that you can interact with different items such as keys, pushing forces, and red death squares so it gets harder. The backdrop through the game is an AI that tries to connect with you. Overall, both the gameplay and story are just boring honestly. The ball can't be controlled as finely as I would like and half the time, I replay levels just guessing at the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story and setting are peerless. The gameplay is also very good... for a while. Eventually, it falls behind, and the complex, unforgiving gameplay combined with the gltichpunk aesthetic start to get annoying. If this game's lenght was a sixth of what I assume to be (based on the amount of levels in a chapter), or if its Story Mode allowed you to skip levels instead of merely removing a single element, I'd hail it as one of the must-play games of 2018. As it stands, instead I suggest you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →LOVE IT. It is my current productivity killer. - Lots of good old fashion simple fun. - Good difficulty progression . - Doesn't take itself to seriously. The AI bot provides a bit of comendy without being over bearing. - Clever level design with lots of variety - Fun theme. I am constantly on the look out for these types of games. Highly recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoyed Pony Island you might enjoy this game, but probably not as much.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably among the most realistic and accurate golf simulators currently on the market.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visually - very simplistic, presentation can be kinda annoying, but the variety of levels is astounding. Some of them are super easy, while some can and will make your butt clench. Controls could have been better though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh man, this was one crazy ride. Excellent writing, 100% recommend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cheap Golf, developed and published by Pixeljam, is a deceptively clever and delightfully strange take on the mini-golf genre that leans fully into charm, experimentation, and playful absurdity. While its title and lo-fi presentation might suggest something disposable or simplistic, the game quickly reveals itself as a thoughtfully crafted experience that blends puzzle design, physics-based problem solving, and surreal humor into something far more memorable than its modest appearance implies.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reviewing every game I have 100% completed: #17 Cheap Golf is a short but very entertaining game about an AI named Susan tracking you as you complete mini golf levels. The golf itself is pretty good, with some solid level design and concepts, but the humor and atmosphere in this game is what really sets it apart from other games like it. Cheap Golf was amusing, intriguing, and most of all, fun. A great experience all around.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i bought it so i could get points for a banner, and its actully ok i guess
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is way to amazing, yet you will 100% rage
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not sure if it's me playing the game, or if it's the game that's playing me. It's one of those simpler made games, but with quite some nice and good content, not too short and not too long. Just perfect for a relatively short completion time. Nonetheless the game is cool and quite fun, and not very grinding at all, with some surprises lurking around... All in all, it is a golf game, and you got quite a challenge ahead of you!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall a short but sweet game. A nice variety of levels and mechanics stops it from being bland and repetitive. The optional "Speedrun" mode is a nice addition for those who are after that, and all the luck to them. The game has a gentle increase in difficulty over its numerous levels so do not expect to blitz through all the levels. My only issue with the game is when you move your mouse near the edge of the screen when lining up a shot, the view expands shifting your aim. This gets pretty…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty challenging, though there were a few levels at the very end I thought were more annoying than fun. Solid writing that was surprisingly enjoyable, I didn't really have any expectations for it going in but it is very well done. The controls need some more precision I think since the later levels especially don't play very well because of it. I never quite had a full idea of how far I'd go at any point until I'd done a decent amount of trial and error. But i'd always have to repeat that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It tries too hard to be like pony island, but it's still alright
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is... bizarre. The story is quite amusing and has many similarities to Portal. The gameplay itself is fun but also extremely challenging, sometimes even frustrating. Overall, Cheap Golf a great game and I enjoyed playing it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended with a few exceptions. It`s a mini-golf puzzle reflex arcade bullet-hell(?) game. Dragging the mouse for power and aiming is pretty standard. Difficulty varies wildly so expect some levels to frustrate. Where it`s let down is with the controls, you`re supposed to click and drag then let go to shoot, except often randomly the mouse `sticks` and then requires an extra click to shoot, I`ve no idea why and it`s the biggest cause of all my failures on each level. Also the drag bar is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was such a great two-hour experience. I <3 you SUSAN
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had this dream where in 30 years, in like 2020, video games were not that different from today. But simultaneously they were also a parody of everything that had happened in between. I remember a presence, a name. Susan. She made me feel calm faced with the uneasiness brought on by video games. Or was it the other way around? No matter. There was balance.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The mix of golf and Susan. Match well made. Though I wonder if Susan is like GLaDOS, even though I do keep to that voice for her. Well worth the storyline and the challenge. Had me going for a fair few hours. Can't wait for the full release however. I also can't wait to see what challenges the community makes with the editor. I like my custom maps challenges so bring them on!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a lot of clever design that makes each level feel original, great game and it isn't even finished yet.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This strips Golf down to its most basic - drag and drop the putter to hit the ball. Avoid obstacles, gather keys. In general the levels are pretty easy (although I was frustrated with level 49 qwest for a long time), with the power of the putt hard to measure. There's also a weird story about a rogue AI infused between the levels. It's just weird, but in a good way. If you want golf as retro as you can get, this will keep you entertained for an hour or so.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Come for the cheap golf. Stay for the sensible chuckles.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun, challenging, frustrating, cheap--all that good stuff. Give it a try
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh god, so good. Highly recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is literally the greatest game SUSAN SUSAN SUSAN.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cheap, good puzzels, so worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite the name, it actually costed me a lot. It costed me the copying and deletion of my soul and character, as well as gaining me several trillion dollars in cryptocurrencies. Overall great game and great story while not being as knuckle-draggingly slow as other games. 7/10
