positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So i was kinda confused by some early negative reviews on the game saying that progress was too hard or that things were too slow, cause thats just kind of how chao garden always was unless you were specifically using the feeding glitch in SA2 (and even then it was quite the grind) but after playing it a bit i kinda get it? Like by all means this is a fantastic chao garden game and it can give ya hundreds of hours of entertainment if this is your thing like it is for me, so of course i'd…

unlabelledView post →I added a jet ski to my Chao Garden inspired game... Thanks to the support from patreon, I was able to add this brand new big feature to Bobo Bay!! This was something I had in mind super early on, but cut it because I didn't think I would have the time to do it 🌊
unlabelledView post →This game is very much a chao garden with a few extras added on to make it feel like a game rather than an addition like it was in sonic. The game follows a similar style where you simply feed a chao a fruit and said fruit gives specific buffs. So ideally you want to get a chao to do a specific style of race and then give it fruits that will boost those stats needed for the race. Then race. Now ill start talking about the additions and why they do not work. In order to find a bobo you enter…

unlabelledView post →It's definitely a homage to the Sonic Adventure series Chao Garden. There's a lot of interesting details like how the protagonist changers her hairstyle everyday or spreads her arms when she starts running fast. There's a lot of love here. The problem is that the Chao Garden was supposed to be something after you played the Sonic levels and this game's focus on the garden makes it difficult to do anything at the beginning besides feeding your bobos and sleeping. I wish there was more I could do…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(I'm one of the playtesters for this game, at time of writing I have about 100 hours of Bobo experience!) Bobo Bay is an absolute love letter to the pet raising genre, and the spiritual successor to Chao Garden that we've all been waiting for. It's charming, adorable, full of love in every pixel - I would die for my little plant friends, and considering I gave one of them a gun I probably will! There's so much to discover, I fully intend to sink another few hundred hours into exploring it all.…

unlabelledView post →Bobo Bay could have just recreated the Chao Garden minigame and called it a day. What I didn’t expect was that it would tell a heartfelt main narrative alongside its endlessly charming critters. A pleasure to review this one.
unlabelledView post →I have a new demo in Next Fest for my game Bobo Bay! It's a pet sim game where you raise little creatures to compete in competitions. I'm also running two competitions right now for Steam Gift Cards🎁Can check those out on my other posts.
unlabelledView post →It's exactly what a fan of a certain minigame from a certain 2002 action platformer could ever ask for! 24 years and it all feels just like it did playing on the GCN It's got better quality of life, a fun gameplay loop, horsebetting styled gambling on races, fun cosmetics and interesting items to search for, a ton of little quirks and whimsy to the design. Looking for Chao Garden? This is it without having to level grind for rings or stat boosters.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I get asked at least once a day to add co-op to Bobo Bay. First of all... that isn't as easy as clicking a button 😭 Especially when I didn't build the game with that in mind. Secondly, I prefer single player experiences. Not everything needs multiplayer. I'm sorry.
unlabelledView post →This game takes heavy inspiration from SA2 chao garden. Before I go on, I read some other "Do not Recommend this game" to make sure I wasn't the only one feeling this way and I want to get some things clear before others try to excuse complaints, as rude as that sounds. - I want this game to succeed - I think devs deserve to have money for games they create - "Do not Recommend" is an honest reaction, I don't view this game negatively nor do I think intentions are bad I want to enjoy this…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →extremely cute extremely fun i grew a mushroom who was also a ghost out of the ground and she kept crying so i took her to town and showed her nice things and that made her stop crying and the love i felt for her in that moment and her big shiny eyes made me cry in return. 10/10 already. minor critique is just that i find the grading system used to tell the race difficulties kind of too esoteric to get a good grasp on but maybe thats just me
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely cute game that is effectively a standalone version of the Chao Garden from Sonic Adventure. Earn money by doing events, spend that money on items that improve or decorate your creatures. If you've been wishing for a return to the Chao Garden, this is worth checking out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love this game! Perfectly captures the essence of the Chao Garden from Sonic Adventure 2. However, it does feel very slow and could benefit from some quality of life and additional gameplay loops. Right now, everyday gives you one excursion for resources, one stock of resources from the shop and four(6 with the upgrade) races to do during the day and during the night. This does make it feel heavily time gated, as Bobos will only eat a specific number of food each day (ranging from 1-3) so you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is amazing. It has the heart and feel of something like Chao Garden but with unique and needed additions and twists. I very highly recommend it for anyone who enjoyed the Chao Garden or creature raising games, and highly recommend it to anyone who likes sim/cozy games. Added bonus, my wife likes it too. EDIT: I wanted to add some extra context and info. 1. This game is a longevity-focused game, so it has a slower start. Don't be deterred. Much like Stardew Valley, as you progress,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I can appreciate the time and effort that went into this game, as well as the art style and the polish, I just dont agree or like a lot of the gameplay design choices. A lot of the details or gameplay loops I enjoyed about the old Chao Gardens are changed here. Time doesn't pass organically, you have to manually pass time using a "day-by-day" system rather than a naturally progressing time system. Bobos dont naturally become hungry and eat or have a bar to refill over irl time, it's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Austin would never do a video on my game, but I now think about this shit every time i level design. That's why Bobo Bay will have gutters and drains around every building.

unlabelledView post →Trying not to be too harsh, I'm pretty disappointed in Bobo Bay. I'm a big fan of SA2B, I have a lot of fond memories with the chaos system and this falls extremely short. Let me start with what I like. This game is cute, flat out. Tropical island inhabited by zombies and little critters that want to compete with each other? fantastic! The art style is very fitting and the characters feel right at home on an island of "Bobo". The "Wheelies" are a fun way to get around and there's some…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i have a great idea for a Bobo Bay boardgame that i pray i get to do one day lol. Depends on the success of the game!
unlabelledView post →The idea behind the game is fun and for sure is going to appease many of the other people who also enjoyed the Chao garden as kids, but oh my lord this game just seems to want to inconvenience me at every turn. I have this issue where almost every time I'm backing out of a trial or saga menu the game will stop responding to any inputs and force me to close the game and reopen it before I can do anything. Please fix this bug! Also, having to check up on every individual Bobo whenever it's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Chao Garden Standalone. Been looking for a game like this for a while. Closest I found beforehand was wobbledogs but didn't scratch the itch I have. Looking forward to discovering the various of chao forms and accessories. Hope a lot more opens up as I play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Supported this game on Kickstarter for awhile, and it came out! And it's really good! Definitely what I was looking for when it comes to these pet raising/chao simulator sort of deals. My only two complaints being that I wish when you held stat raising items near a Bobo, it showed you their stats, and hopefully future updates can cut down on the loading screens and the downtime between area traversal. But if that's my only two real issues, it goes to show how nice this game is.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a huge fan of the Chao Gardens, this game has become everything I wished for and more. I can feel the inspiration, but also see and appreciate how the developer goes above and beyond to make this its own game. Bobo Bay has wonderful quality of life improvements, adorable lore, and constant chances for exploration and ways to train and raise the Bobos. If you are someone who likes to be in control and grind to create the optimal critters, you will love this game. If you want to just see cute…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm writing this review close to completing the 100% of this game! Overall I think this is a good game that I do recommend, however there are a few things I've encountered that I wish to see address to make the player experience a bit better. I'll split the review into 4 segments, Anecdote of my time playing, Pros, Cons, and Improvements/Suggestions Anedotes: - This game is very slow, to note, my early game was during the 1.0 version of the game, and while they've added some new features…

unlabelledView post →going back 2 years, what if i named my game "Bobo Bay Remake" even though it never came out before. I wonder if that would make people more interested or less interested lol.
unlabelledView post →Honestly, yes. 😊 I still want to play Bobo Bay sooo bad because it's one of the only games that has tried to be like the Sonic Chao Garden that I've seen. store.steampowered.com/app/1889810/...
unlabelledView post →I don't think this game looks like it's worth $25 on the surface, but after sinking some time into it it definitely is. I've never played a sonic game so I don't know what a chao is and I'm still having tons of fun. The loop of buffing your little guys and putting them in competitions is scratching my Uma Musume itch, except this isn't gacha and the cute little bobos are vastly superior to anime girls. Big big recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this kind game and if you have any semblance of nostalgia for Sonic Adventure's Chao Garden you should really play this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been waiting a long time for this game to come out and it does not disappoint! For such a huge chunk of my life I have longed for a game that is just the Sonic Adventure Chao Garden as it's whole game and this delivers. I have spent years and years trudging through indie pet sims to scratch that very specific itch and they either get too close to Pokemon or are too detached from the coziness that I crave. This is it. This is everything. It doesn't feel bloated, I have just the right…

unlabelledView post →did you love raising chao in the sonic adventure games? did you ever wish there was stand alone version focused on them? if you answered "yes" then you will love this game. end of story
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't really recommend Bobo Bay as it is. I suffer from a lot of the same issues a lot of the other reviewers have expressed. The gameplay loop gets really samey really fast, and my bobos are coming in dead last in most competitions due to the sheer amount of RNG that goes into the fruit shop and excursions every day. Sure, there's the training school, but one lesson takes most of the money I have and leaves me with barely any to feed my bobos with. The pity stat boosts you get with certain…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never leave reviews. In 15 years using steam, I've never left a single one. This game deserve it though, and it deserves so much more. Someone finally took the Chao Garden from Sonic Adventure 2 and made it a standalone game. It's not a perfect game, but neither was the original minigame. It's everything I've hoped to play for the past 20 years. 10/10 for letting me relive my childhood obsession in a fresh new way
