unlabelledView post →letterboxd.com/murdermurder... Been ten years since the release of Blackhat, a film I love. Using this as an excuse to repost the only worthwhile letterboxd review I've ever written. (just seen a comment on there from ages ago asking if I'm @seamas.bsky.social. I can now exclusively reveal I'm not.)

unlabelledView post →In 2025, I am going to make sure I finally watch Blackhat. I skipped it when it came out because of scathing reviews but it seems to have a nice cult following these days. It’s time to give it a whirl. It seems like a film I’d really enjoy.

unlabelledView post →I had great time with this. It was exactly the BlackHat-adjacent film I was looking for. Heat is the obvious inspiration, but it does plenty that Michael Mann wouldn't and worked in its own right for me. Chris Hemsworth is great in the lead role, the ageless Halle Berry is wonderful.
unlabelledView post →saw the director's cut of Blackhat, the Michael Mann film for years I mainly knew of this as that one movie where Chris Hemsworth plays a buff hacker. As it turns out, it's also really fucking good. I shouldn't have ever doubted the man!

unlabelledView post →I went to Twitter for a second and saw people discussing how good the movie Blackhat is. Truly disgusting and sad to see what’s become of that app.
unlabelledView post →Literally one of my favorite films, probably tied with Blackhat and Manhunter as my favorite Michael Mann movie, so to hear the audience being a buncha chucklefucks because they're afraid to sincerely engage with something so unafraid of its own romanticism is, to understate it, infuriating.
unlabelledView post →#Watched Blackhat (2015) - Chris Hemsworth is … the world’s most physically fit hacker. Ok, movie logic, but the FBI has to check an apartment, and they send a civilian convict on furlough and a civilian agent of a foreign power, while the Marshall waits in the car? The fuck? Pretty but very dumb.
unlabelledView post →I’d say Blackhat. Just because of how dismal the box office was and how mocked the film was for casting Hemsworth as a hacker. But I thought it was fantastic. He found an interesting visual language for ‘stuff happening in computers’ that wasn’t cheesy. I can’t wait to watch his re-edited version.
unlabelledView post →Favorite Movie(s) Right This Second. Blackhat (2015) I love this movie. The Mann recut is the better version but even the theatrical edit has those amazing shootouts and Ritchie Coster chewing scenery. What’s yours? #filmsky #scriptsky #cinema

unlabelledView post →I love Michael Mann but his director’s cuts are so annoying for this reason. Especially when he tries to change the structure in Blackhat and while the DC structure is more elegant it’s like no dude what I saw first is the movie. You’re stuck with trial by fire.
unlabelledView post →Michael Mann is mostly a good director who’s just not for me but I am 100% all in on BLACKHAT. I don’t know what a perfect film is but it might as well be.
unlabelledView post →I'm not contrarian enough to argue that BLACKHAT is a 'better' movie than SOCIAL NETWORK, I also just don't actually believe that, but I do think Mann had a better understanding of men like Zuckerberg than Sorkin trying to fashion that chinless waste into a lovelorn, tragic antihero.
unlabelledView post →I think Thief is a better film than Heat. But, then I think BlackHat is a better film than Heat. So, I can't be trusted. Michael Mann apologist that I am.

unlabelledView post →10 years ago, a Michael Mann cyberthriller bombed at the box office; today, BLACKHAT has a reputation as one of Mann's best films this century. For Inverse, I wrote on how the hacking action film (hacktion?) is a robust, expressive look at humanity in crisis. www.inverse.com/entertainmen...

The Cell, on the other hand, is a scruffy fav of mine. Tarsem Singh has a great eye for weird tableaux. The Smile movies are a good laugh, so… Steelbooks!
unlabelledView post →In the movie Blackhat, the characters are riding in a helicopter, and two of them switch to a private channel on their headsets to have a potentially awkward conversation without the others hearing, even though they're right next to them. I think that's so clever and neat.

unlabelledView post →Really appreciate how any other director/movie would have had the villain's grand plan in Blackhat be this big terrorist plot but no this guy is just out there to fuck people over on the stock market. It's a pump n dump with some major collateral damage. He's a fuckin day trader with armed goons
unlabelledView post →So, if I remove Blackhat, 48 Hrs, Congo, Lake Placid, Dracula, the Faculty and Fright Night as being recently watched, what do I watch next???
unlabelledView post →Blackhat is such an interesting movie because Hemsworth is doing like a soft Colin Farrell in Miami Vice impersonation, which is really awkward, but also fascinating to watch in a movie about hacking that plays it pretty straight and not too goofy. Anyway, the director's cut is not bad.
unlabelledView post →Oh you mean Blackhat! It’s the better movie for sure. Another one where the director’s cut is noticeably better. There was the initial joke reaction of bronze god Hemsworth being a computer nerd but it works. Loved the China angle.

unlabelledView post →I physically purchased the supposed ultimate director cut of Blackhat that “fixes” the movie, watched it and still can’t decide if I enjoyed it or not, but I do feel like it is very slow paced and Chris Hemsworth was badly miscast

unlabelledView post →Got around to watching Blackhat. Never seen it before, and figured I’d go with the director’s cut. I’ll be fascinated to learn why the theatrical version was so despised because I thought the movie was really good! Hits the Mann vibes. Procedural jargon, loud gunfights and ambient techno. And soy

unlabelledView post →Prepping for Film Sack. We're watching 'Blackhat', Micheal Mann's biggest box office flop. Did we miss a gem in 2015? Or is it shite? Gonna find out while we watch sexy Chris Hemsworth do some hacking or something.
unlabelledView post →Blackhat! Good movie!
unlabelledView post →Similarly, it took me three quarters of the movie Blackhat to realize that Hemsworth was doing a South Chicago steel worker accent when South Chicago steel workers are most of my family

unlabelledView post →I think all the characters are a little too thinly sketched and everything ties up too nicely (in both plot structure and what happens in the story) but yes, solidly shot and perfectly functional crime movie. Highly recommend Blackhat for a real dose of the Mann-Hemsworth combo if you haven't seen!
