55 of 55 · most liked firstThis is the first game hailing from Warfare Studios that I got my hands on to play, and reading many a good reviews about the developer in Aldorlea forums beforehand, I had decent expectations to begin with. All it's pros and cons gathered to make a last call, Black Home: Vermillion Monastery is a good RPGMaker game, yet not a good RPG. It all begins during a heavy rainstorm, at the ruined tower halls of a forsaken monastery. We witness a battle for life and death between a Victorian…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Black Home is a turn-based RPG about a woman who teams up with a group of travellers to find her missing husband. The characters are pretty interesting and have unique dialogues, but the story is pretty generic (blah blah evil cult etc). It was an interesting idea to have the entire game set in one building and its grounds. The game isn't bad really but it could have used a bit more polish. There are a few typos in the dialogue. The battle system is functional but it was never really clear to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game with a bit of difference, but still of the 16-bit style, Black Home is an absorbing and exciting tale that takes place in an ominous old and supposedly long deserted monastery that was previously being explored by the main protagonist's (Lecia) husband who is now missing/lost within the walls of the menacing old building. So she bravely goes in alone, and finds herself in a huge, maze-like, and (not entirely) deserted assortment of rooms, corridors, hallways, secret passageways, etc.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My full review can be found here: http://www.the-backlog.net/black-home-review/ Disclaimer: I received a copy from the publisher for review. Lecia Coy is trying to find her husband who is missing in an abandoned monastery. Unfortunately, this monastery is home to a number of secrets. She'll have to team up with several other people who have come here for different reasons to try and find her husband. Black Home is an around 6-7 hour RPG that also features multiple endings. I'm not quite sure…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Where to begin… First of all, this game was published (and I think they bought out the developers…) by Aldorlea Games. I’m sure many people that enjoy RPGMaker Games are very aware of the products they put out. But for those of you who don’t… to put it simply, they’re not the greatest. Many of the games in their library make great demos, but rarely are the games good after the first few minutes. Way back when, when RPGMaker games almost NEVER made money, and most of them were made by teens…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. The character art is good, the story isn't breaking any new ground but it's fairly competently executed, and I thought the idea of a JRPG set in a single building and grounds, where you kept getting new exploration tools to open up secrets metroidvania-style, was kind of interesting. Unfortunately, the combat is a drag -- the enemies are almost never threatening and the strategy involved was about as shallow as possible. It felt like the combat was just…

I actually found the puzzles and especially the ambience incredibly enjoyable. I just can't recommend this game cause the ending SUCKED! You go through this really deep and dark story only for the monster to escape, turn on it's captors, your husband to DIE which is THE ENTIRE REASON YOU CAME! And for a new main villian to appear and kill one of your main characters…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best RPGMaker game I've played. A good 70/100 effort. The good Surpringly deep story Uses the RPGMaker assets well Compelling in its own little way Some suitably dark moments The bad Music is minimalist and occasionally annoying Lots of backtracking Can get stuck wondering what to do next or where to go Combat can lack challenges
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short, easy turn-based RPG with a Victorian Gothic-style setting. I bought this on sale and had low expectations, which were considerably exceeded. If you enjoyed Vagrant Hearts and (the first) Ashes of Immortality, you might like this one. You will spend a few hours roaming a castle, searching for items and using spells on visible enemies. Some backtracking is required and some items are missable-I ended up replaying to get all the chesspieces.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →'Black Home' is an RPG made with RPG GameMaker. I'm not familiar with games made using this program, nor the software itself, so am not in a position to comment on that. All that matters to me, is whether this is any good. As a story, as a game, etc. I can't comment on the narrative, as I haven't finished it yet, and probably never will. Some people are doing some thing in a monastery, and that thing is probably not good. Your husband was sent to investigate, and you haven't heard from him…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed this game, though I failed to get 100%. I didn't find one black pawn, but found an additional white knight???? Weird. :D But anyway, it wasn't fantastic or anything, but not bad. :) Ran fine. Almost no bugs showed up for me. :) All in all, time enjoyably spent.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love to play rpg games but this one lacks of something at the beginning, It didn't make me keep on the story I got bored :c Im sure is not a bad game but I got bored the first 10 minutes of playing :/ I've played other rpg games that I couldn't stop playing because I was so curious about what would happen next
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked this game. I have a lot of RPG Maker type games, and this one managed to stand out. The whole Lovecraft vibe is very well presented and is one of my favorite things about this game. Creepy ancient monastery, weird characters with weird quirks, eerie sound effects- they all pull together to keep the mood slightly horrifying. As others have noted, there is a lot of backtracking and searching for items you missed or places that you couldn't access before, but that is part of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Black Home is a nice, medium-long, 16-bit turn-based RPG. It has a quite nice atmosphere. It is about a woman who tries to save her husband from a cursed monastery. On the way, you get some people to join in your search. Apparently there are several endings but I got one until now. I bought the game when it is on sale. If you love 16-bit Victorian gothic style RPG, it is nice game to play. Still, I suggest you to buy it on sale. Because, it is not a remarkable game that everyone needs to…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Considering i aquired this for 1$ i can't really complain. Game is very easy, only died 1 time due to some hole you can barely see. Story is not that bad. There are 2 endings; just save before "the egg" and you can get to see them both withouth having to replay the game 2 times; but if you are an achivement hunter you might do that aswell becasue you need to play the game for 10hrs to get 1 achivement
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not sure about this one, it's like "Warfare Studios" thought we wanted this, but everyone was vying for Ashes of Immortality III. "Black Home" doesn't exude much hospitality and drags on for way too long before you can decrypt whatever lies inside this monastery. It's like an annoyingly murky version of "Hearts of Chaos".
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just hit 100%, so I wanna say something to this game. It's not bad but it is also not very good. The story is quite okay and many other games of this kind are way better. Also I completed the two endings and secrets blind in almost 5 hours. This game is NOT 10h long, I only have the playtime because it's an ingame achivement. Pro: - If you don't expect a brilliant horror game, you'll get a decent adventure - the world is quite detailled and big - Unique cast of characters.. - no major bugs.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RPG Maker strikes again! Black Home is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. This is another RPG Maker asset flip/cash grab from…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ehhhhh. I sort of recommend it, I guess. I got this game on sale for about fifty cents, and at that price I guess it was entertaining enough. Very basic RPG Maker game overall, although some of the art is pretty neat. It didn't trigger anything revolutionary or offer much in the way of challenge or originality, but it was entertaining enough for a few hours.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PLEASE NOTE: While my review sounds favorable, the reason I am NOT reccomending this game is due to a game-breaking bug that occurs near the end of the game, with no update or fix as far as I can tell. If this is ever addressed, I will change my review. UPDATE: SO IT TURNS OUT THAT IF YOU LOOK AT THE EGG BEFORE LOOKING INTO THE CHASM AT ONE POINT YOU BREAK THE GAME. THAT WAS MY BUG. I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT AFTER THREE AND A HALF YEARS!!! https://youtu.be/Lci3zInTAow An RPG Maker horror game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring Music is nerve grindingly repetetive Assets are all stock, nothing new or even slightly interesting Story could be interesting if it wasn't so tedious to get through The map is ridiculously huge, couple that with the fact that you have no sort of way to tell where you are or need to go, and the endless backtracking and just wandering around to trigger an event, its just boring and annoying Fights can be completed by just hitting enter repeatedly, and are just uninteresting Constant…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i bought the game while it was on sale the game is good and it held my interest but the ending NO BIG BOSS FIGHT and the ending i just hated only thing that would make it better is if there was a 2 .... on top of that there were to many questions in the story line that the ending left for my liking
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked this game, had fun playing it. For some reason though ...it kept reminding me of Koudelka?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved almost everything about this game. Ancient Ones with so little concern for humanity that we're usually beneath their notice? Rad. Badass female protagonist who uses science to slay? Hell yeah. Abandoned monastery overrun with zombies? My dude. The one thing I didn't love? The SIZE. I saw another review that mentioned the huge size of the maps, and it's so true. Easily 75% of my time in this game was spent running around backtracking and getting lost. I feel like a lot of the maps…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok RPGMaker game, solid story, easy combat, very good guide available for the achievements.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old school RPG about the lost history of Scientology.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short, but good The soundtrack was nothing short of AMAZING! The music was themed properly and the sound made by some tricky/spooky things that pop up are a great addition to the game. I like when the game play is not too difficult, in other words yo do not run around killing everything with ease only to be confronted by an impossible boss. This game delivers the right amount of levelling up without mindlessly grinding. I wish it were longer , but at .99 I certainly can not complain
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very asian-feeling RPG ... story, game-play and simple old-school music somehow are very well put together. I'm not an expert, but to me it has an asian / japaneese feel to it, given how well things fit together and the skills used in the fights. The only piece that doesn't fit are the monster fights -- too simple and repetative. You use same skills over and over in same combo for 10 to 20 fights in a row. Despite that I am really enjoying exploring the spooky monestary and waiting to see where…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game with two different endings. I wonder if their is a secreat third ending because you can collect all the chess pieces? I recommend this game to anybody that wants an short but sweet RPG classic game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed the game overall. It's short but entertaining, with two different endings. I didn't encounter any major bugs during my playthrough. The only issue I found was that the achievement for collecting all 32 chess pieces didn't unlock, even though I confirmed I had all of them. Aside from that, it was a solid experience and worth playing if you're looking for a short horror JRPG.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →played though the game, made it to a point that i was running around the map with no enemies, nothing to do and no clue to the direction i was to go, so i got annoyed and quit.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Black Home was one of the most amazing games i've played from RPG Maker, the Castle Vibe is amazing and the locked doors and fixed paths you've got to unlock as you go makes what should be a very small space feel larger than it actually is! The mechanics are also very good and the difficult spikes whilst at first seem unfair encourage you to find other ways around, you can't just charge in at every enemy because healing items are a scarce resource almost turning this into a Survival Horror RPG.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have attempted, twice, to play through this game, and have only made it about thirty minutes in each time. The story seemed like it was going to be underwhelming, and I found the fact that the game was turn-based to be a nuisance truthfully. The combat was too easy, and kind of destroyed the atmosphere that I imagine the game was trying to build. In addition to the combat, the maps were so underwhelming that they took me out of the story. There's very little to interact with on them, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's been awhile since I've sat down to play any JRPG or RPG Maker game. I was pleasantly surprised by the story and dialogue. It was a nice change of pace instead of having to go all over the world to explore, you're exploring a singular location with hidden rooms and underground locations that interconnect in some way. The only thing I disliked about the game was the fighting. While most games have the battle system, it could have been better made. Most of the time I just used all my best…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got the game for $1 on a coupon thing after making a badge so figured i would try it out. It seemed to me like old school final fantasy meets horror. I wanted to like it and played all the way up to where I should be at the end but the game is broken, not sure what caused the issue but I can't complete the game cause it freezes when you try to complete one of the actions to move forward. Oh well I guess. Music is repetitive but not terrible although it does clash with the battle music at…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sure, there are some typos and some bugs that I think should be worked out, but I LOVE this game. Been playing it and reading the dialogue to my 5-year-old son; we're both enjoying the story and the characters.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Black Home 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →an easy game to play when you actually are downloading something biger in the meantime. Quite a good story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This Is A Decent Game For The Price You pay For It. - Graphics are Pretty Good - Monster Sprites Are Cool - Storyline Was Interesting - Combat System Turn based - Hours To Complete : 5-7hrs Developer Did A Great Job On this Title Of A Game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed this game. Nothing complicated but enjoyable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am so glad I gave this game a chance. The map is huge but you unlock shortcuts as you progress and the enemies provide good experience and loot if you want to grind a bit. Combat wise, nothing too remarkable, which is fine by me because I played for the story. We start off looking for our heroine's husband, who mysteriously went missing (along with many others) while researching this particular ancient monastery...and the fun only grows from there! I've always enjoyed a good story of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ENTRY #1 in my RPGMAKER 2021 I got near the end of the game and then suddenly experienced a bug at a save point that made me unable to progress, as well as having written my previous save. It's okay otherwise, but it does actively fall apart as the game progresses. It's unfortunate, and I hope that its sequels improve on this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Preemptive TL;DR: Not a bad rpg maker game, it's fun and the story is good enough. I'd dare to even call it a really good rpg maker game. Always look at the chasm first, then touch the egg for bad end or leave it alone for good. Given some of it's faults, it's only really worth the buy when it's on sale. I don't think I'd be nearly as kind to this game if I had paid the full 10 bucks for it. Pros: -Fun game -Good enough storyline -Usually straightforward progression. -Never gets too…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good story, secrets, the battle scenes are a bit lame. but overall the game was good comparing to the price
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an entertaining story and great for a casual gamer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just got this game to get enough money to start my account and found it to be a nice game to fill in my time while I wait for another game to download. It take me back to my earlier gaming days and these style of rpg's. I will be getting the squeal.

Church thematic for protagonists unappealing. Poor quality sounds. Tileset fatiguing on the eyes. Uninterestingly written dialogue. You walk around an ugly church full of debris that wont let you take two steps without being told that you need tool X or tool Y to break the…
