unlabelledView post →Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden by Dont Nod is a beautiful game - both its story and visuals are incredible. If you're a fan of a narrative driven game, making choices and don't mind a bit of jank in your combat, I highly recommend this one.
unlabelledView post →Once again, Don't Nod prove that they know how to craft beautiful stories, immersive atmospheres, and incredible soundtracks. And once again, they prove that they still don't really know how to create engaging gameplay. The game could have been incredible with a better combat system and a slightly more linear structure, but instead we end up with a game that's unnecessarily large and forces us to unlock shortcuts in areas we never return to. Just like with Vampyr, they really need to…

unlabelledView post →“I want shorter games with worse graphics made by people who are paid more to work less and I’m not kidding.” Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is an insanely frustrating game. It's hoisted to great heights by a strong narrative and then subsequently buried by its gameplay and structure. It’s a victim of the worst parts of modern game design and has entirely too much content, taking something that would have been an excellent 20 hour experience and turning it into a decent 40 hour experience. Now…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’d give this game a 6.5/10. Pros: * The voice acting is top-tier. * Great dark atmosphere and visuals. * The sound design is really satisfying — movement, footsteps, nature, armor, all of it. * Making story choices is actually interesting. * Beautiful locations. * Good character animations. Cons: * For some reason, I just couldn’t get attached to the main characters, Red and Antea. They occasionally talk about their past, but there wasn’t enough there to make me genuinely care…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unnecessary long for it's own good. This would've done great as 12h long story driven action adventure, not semi-open world, wanna be RPG. You have 3 types of attack light, heavy and range for 20+ hours, that's it, nothing more. You collect 500+ of material and herbs to do +3 dmg on same 5 enemies throughout the game. Story is entertaining, even side missions are well written, but everything else is more than terrible. 4/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a dark, atmospheric action RPG set in a cursed New England settlement, where ghost-hunting and morally charged choices shape the experience. While combat isn’t perfect, the main story and haunting side cases are outstanding. With lots of running and exploration, discovering hidden areas and side cases makes the story feel exciting and immersive. P.S.: Remember, if you get stuck while exploring, it’s almost always a side quest or haunting case. You can always…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a game I meant to pick up but never did, and I finally got it on PS+. It’s basically a game of just the investigation quests from Witcher 3. The writing on this one is really good, and the throughline moral choice completely fucked
unlabelledView post →I liked the game at first, but the charm faded away after the Hammer and tongs quest, which had upset me beyond measure. If you ascend and not banish her husband's ghost, of which she can't have the knowledge whatsoever, for she is not adept in the dark arts or anything, she will gain ill-natured status with you, raising the prices in her shop, despite you saving her and her lover's asses. Antheya being a total hypocrite, freely changing her stances on killing innocent people and dealing with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What's haunt when we can live a little longer? A game that is able to shine with his writing, where there are so many intertwined, moving stories, in a doomed end of 17th century US colony. I shed more than a tear, and I've completed all side missions and haunting cases despite how tedious it could be. Because, alas, the stellar writing is not matched by the gameplay: labyrinth style maps full of collectibles where you'll get lost all the time; lots of running between shelters (fast travel…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a narrative-driven action RPG developed by DON’T NOD, a studio best known for its emphasis on character, moral choice, and emotionally grounded storytelling. Set in a bleak, supernatural version of 17th-century North America, the game blends third-person combat, investigation mechanics, and branching narrative decisions into a deliberately paced, somber experience. It is a title that prioritizes atmosphere and ethical weight over spectacle, and its success…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story writers for this company are phenomenal. The game clearly hints at how you should approach every decision it offers you. The beginning was a rough start asking you to care and feel moved by characters you just met, but otherwise, it develops the characters beautifully well. The combat flow was well designed. It offers you the options to explore however you want to fight and gives you tools to strengthen it. So, why don't I recommend it? Because this game has little in the way…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Action RPG that's kinda similar to the witcher 3. Hands down, the story and side quests are the best part of the game, followed by the satisfying combat. The map is big and diverse with a lot of loot and collectibles to be found. It's a bummer, you have to do so much backtracking and many of the fast travel spots are quite far apart so I'm not sure if having a gargantuan open world in this case is an advantage. The enemies at the beginning are pretty formidable, I struggled to defeat them…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an intense action game with an excellent very well-written story and characters you'll like, lots to explore and a lot of fun, i am very much enjoying it, i've already played 12 hours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried SO HARD to love this game. I spent a significant amount of time on the lore, seeing the beauty in the environment, taking in the atmosphere. The concept is incredibly unique on its own, the story, the way cliché ghosts can be turned into interesting entities with a reason to exist and a goal for themselves. Unfortunately, it all falls short when you actually have to play the game and combat comes in. For the first few hours it can be entertaining, it leaves you thinking there HAS to be…

unlabelledView post →I really wanted to love this game… but it’s complicated. On paper, it had everything to be a great experience: an emotional story, dual protagonists, and some interesting mechanics. But in practice, it struggles to deliver. The narrative tries to be deep and moving, but the pacing is off. Long cutscenes right from the start make it hard to get invested — players barely get a chance to play before being asked to sit through lengthy dialogues. Storytelling is important, but it works better…

unlabelledView post →Imagine The Witcher 3 and God of War had a child....this is what it produces. This game is a welcome refresher from all the copy & paste, as well as lack-luster games that have been out for some time now. This game has a great, and deep story as well as loads of side content. I particularly like the ghost stories to be resolved. Visually the game is stunning, I love the "depressing" vibe of the game with its visuals and sad soundtrack, it really resignates with the underlying goal of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a good game hidden somewhere in this mess but I cannot recommend it in good faith. The amount of backtracking is insane. Combat is bad. Narrative is mediocre.

I expected it to be emotional, but the ending still made me cry 🤣 Overall, I give it an 8.5/10, for me the only downfall was the combat. #VirtualPhotography #VPSupport
unlabelledView post →One of the few games I had to stop playing because of the repetitiveness. Combat is a joke, and the story keeps getting interrupted here and there while our focus has to be the antagonist of the game. It started strong but after a while there was no reason to continue playing. I don't regret buying and playing tbh but definitely not a game I can recommend in my right mind.

unlabelledView post →Quite an engaging project overall – a solid 7 out of 10. It may not reinvent the wheel, yet the game’s style and visuals are genuinely pleasing. Performance was smooth throughout my playthrough too, aside from just one ghost dramatically launching itself back into a wall. The story unfolds at a steady pace. There’s no rush here – it feels more like a supernatural detective investigation with a healthy dose of action mixed in. One of the stronger gameplay elements is the character switching…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just finished **Banishers**. for the last 3rd I focused almost entirely on the main story arc. I was far from a completionist, with only 31% of the map completed and being at level 19. Lets start with the good. Red and Antea are fantastic. Even when there were a couple of places I didn't *like* how they acted I found that I believed their performances. It seemed very reasonable that they felt the way they did. It doesn't happen often but these are characters I will miss. The visual style…

unlabelledView post →I'm mad at this game. Great premise, good ghost stories so far, both protagonists have interesting things going on, writing is there (most of the time) and the setting is cool... all of this slapped into a half-assed god of war with mind-numbing traversal/puzzles, annoying combat and crammed with all the trappings of "prestige" video games: icon galore, yellow paint everywhere, progression(tm) systems, uninteresting craffting... Such a shame!

unlabelledView post →What a game! If Sherlock Holmes had played Dark Souls and then, for some reason, wanted to make a game, I am sure this would be the one. DON'T NOD surely knows how to craft appealing worlds that it's always fun to get lost in them. They also know how to tell stories, especially "grey" ones, where you more often than not banish the innocent and absolve the guilty. Kudos devs, well done indeed.

unlabelledView post →This is a very underrated game in my opinion. Save from the combat, the world-building, the story-telling and the characters all have a charm to them and the deeper lore of the banishers and the colonial world paints a nice picture of a very interesting franchise in the making. I really liked how the haunting cases side quests painted all characters in a grey tone, with no morally good or bad choices. All actions that you or the NPCs do have consequences and the final closure brought a…

The characters are believable, the choices coherent with who they are. In fact, it's what carried me to the end of every single sidequest in the game. The NPCs made me want to know who they were, what they did, and why they did it. I can't stress enough how every single sidequest is its own little story, some of them really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vampyr is still a better game for me, but this one is also very good and deserves your attention. The story, narrative, suspense, and setting are all on point. Support this game, support this team, we lack teams that know how to write. More and more empty-headed people are writing, failing to realize that story and emotion are the pillars of a good RPG. You’ve done the 20th century and the 17th century . It’s time for some Middle Ages with werewolves or witchcraft come on guys, Don't Nod, I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't believe that I have to give this game a thumbs down before I even finished it. I just couldn't. 70% of what this game has to offer you already played elsewhere and better. Corridor-like level design, semi open zones, collecting ressources, upgrading gear, fighting, environmental puzzles. Structurally this is basically a clone of the recent God of War game, especially Ragnarök but worse. Playing the game feels like going through the motions. It's so much running around, doing stuff that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Banishers, if i had one word to describe it, it would be, wow. For a double A studio, they achieved what most triple A studios do not, and that is, an amazing unforgettable story. Yes, there is a lack of motion capture and yes it has a smaller budget, but the writing is on another level, they did a fine work here, cutscenes are so cinematic, the clothing textures and overall environments make it feel so alive, you can feel the tension, the soundtrack helps and the world building, it feels…

Please be advised of this fact when purchasing the game. Hello Friends, Today I will review the game Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. This RPG game is set in the late 1680's in the new world, which is basically the United States of America before it became fully a country and was just starting out. There are very few games set in this era. Also, apparently this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just started another playthrough. Most of the reviews here are correct - especially about the long travelling/facing respawned enemies after a fast travel. Brought back a few ugly memories reading those reviews. Luckily though, the STORY is what brought me back to the game in the first place. I still remember some of the stories till this day, because a few of them genuinely made me pause before the decision and just think about all the connections. Tl;Dr - expect long walks, respawning…

unlabelledView post →It's an excellent story-based game, mostly linear but with a lot of sidetracking, haunting (detective) quests, wrong paths, with level design mostly remaining me of God of War, but upgrades/traveling similar to DkS (unlocking fireplaces and using them to travel, upgrade, rest...). There's 4-5 different zones, they are LARGE if you explore them fully, there's various types of tasks and quests, all NPCs are morally gray or worse, there are twists, different endings... at least 4 difficulty…

When i was first looking into this game i saw comparisons to the Witcher 3, yes it is a dark RPG and you do investigations, but the similarities end there. If i had to make a comparison, the gameplay and exploration feels the closest to the new gen God of War games. The controls, level design even combat feel sometimes like a copy even. Then you mix in the dark RPG elements with investigations…
