For example, I got hold of the movie Cradle of Fear which had been banned in Ireland by ordering a VHS copy directly from the director's website. It wasn't very good though. Likewise, got a copy of Baise Moi

Loved the weird, sweaty, pulpy, grimy feel of this! Also made me miss the gym. Thelma & Louise meets Baise-Moi, with guns, muscles and gore. #filmsky

And for a much worse one (whose politics are all over the place), Baise-Moi by Virginie Despentes.

unlabelledView post →I'm watching BAISE-MOI and it feels surprisingly like the explicit expression of a 1950s Bad Girl film!
unlabelledView post →Weirdly, I often think about how ignored BAISE-MOI has been since its release. Rarely talked about, despite it being a revolutionary feminist film. Pushed aside in favour of more male dominated genre fare www.bbc.com/culture/arti...
unlabelledView post →Is Baise-Moi (2000) worth watching? Is it toward the MARTYRS/INSIDE/CALVAIRE pole of extreme horror with depth? Or the SERBIAN FILM/AUGUST UNDERGROUND pole of boredom?
unlabelledView post →Welcome, Susie! I mentioned you in passing to a pal of mine here which seems to have caught your eye. We chatted on a forum a couple of decades ago (actually more, and I don’t remember which one) about a woman who carved phalluses out of potatoes and the film “Baise-Moi” which I’d just seen. I

unlabelledView post →Watched the infamous French film BAISE-MOI last night. It was a nasty little movie that was nevertheless engrossing. It's very angry but there's a sincerity to its anger that stops it from being exploitative. I recommend it but be warned, it's a doozy.

unlabelledView post →For my latest FAILED LETTERBOXD REVIEW wrote about a controversial film that used then new media. BAISE-MOI is a French film about 2 women who decide they are tired of the world using & demeaning them. They then take matters into their own hands open.substack.com/pub/jeffreyu...

unlabelledView post →Baise-Moi is, frankly, dreadful. Years ago, I had a flatmate who was obsessed with it—I’ve never understood why. Even setting aside the sex and violence, what remains is a shoddy mess: it looks and sounds like an early 2000s daytime soap, complete with a dreadful soundtrack and incidental music and performances that barely convince. The direction is apathetic at best. I watched it on an old DVD still bearing the BBFC’s cuts, so perhaps the visuals suffered there—but even Arrow’s restoration…
