The Beguiled
During the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school, young women take in an injured enemy soldier. As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events. From TMDB

Try these sensationalistic critiques of a monstrous culture: Elia Kazan's BABY DOLL (1956), Don Siegel's THE BEGUILED (1971), and John Huston's WISE BLOOD (1979). jacobin.com/2026/09/film...

Sofia Coppola puts out the Coppola-signal to assemble her usual harem of waify blondes, as they first lust after, then live in terror of, a scene-stealing Colin Farrell. It's her darkest film yet, both figuratively and literally, and I mostly liked it.

Sweet and vulnerable in films like A Christmas Memory, Summer and Smoke and Hondo, yet yikes-level scary in The Beguiled (below), What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice. As mother in Interiors, pitiless and pitiable. She died of a heart attack at 62. #moviesky #filmsky

unlabelledView post →watching The Beguiled (1971) and just think it's so unbelievably cowardly that Sofia Coppola took out the entire slavery aspect of it when she remade the movie. don't do a movie set during the American Civil War if you don't have the guts to address that particular issue

unlabelledView post →Watched the 2017 version of The Beguiled and while it was visually nice it seemingly just left out so much of the characterisation that the 1971 version had. As well as leaving out characters entirely. The 70s version is trashier for sure but overall was the better film.

unlabelledView post →Say, got any glamor shots of poisoned ones? I watched the original (Clint Eastwood/Geraldine Page) film, "The Beguiled" recently (great movie) wherein there is a murder committed using a sautéed side-dish of toxic 'shrooms. [I wouldn't know a safe mushie from one that'd put me in an early grave.🤷]

unlabelledView post →The Beguiled (1971, Don Siegel) is a great film. Clint Eastwood is a Union soldier saved by a Confederate girl, who drags him to the all girls school where she lives. Brilliant script by Albert Maltz and Irene Kamp, based on a novel by Thomas Cullinan. A lot of twists in this one. Come on, baby.
