I just can't handle the awkwardness and second hand social anxiety of it, the scene with the lady and him going "CAN I PAINT YOU?!" just hurts.
unlabelledView post →Watch the movie, "At Eternity's Gate" about Van Gogh's final years in the south of France. William Defoe is excellent as Van Gogh. A must see for you!
unlabelledView post →I'm a huge fan of Van Gogh--the work, the man, the myth, & the films. My favorite film about him has been At Eternity's Gate (partly because I'm in love w/ #WillemDafoe), but I finished this last night & it blew me away. It's quite a different depiction of him, & it's gorgeous. #VanGogh #films

Films like At Eternity's Gate, Portrait of a Lady of Fire, In Bruges, The Grand Budapest Hotel , Midnight Cowboy and Before Sunset hit me on a very deep level.
unlabelledView post →I added it to my list. You should see At Eternity's Gate (2018), his film about one of my favorite artists.🎨🖌️ He painted all the works you see in the film. His 'plate paintings' are my favorites, as shown below.
unlabelledView post →I've only seen one other film that Julian Schnabel directed and that was "Basquiat". It was visually beautiful so I have high hopes for "At Eternity's Gate."
unlabelledView post →3) In the 2018 Van Gogh movie At Eternity's Gate, Vincent says "When I paint, I stop thinking." I get this. Anxious folks like me have brains that can't stop firing on all cylinders. It's been helpful to find a new hobby that helps calm those cylinders down for me as well. /8 🎨 #painting #art
unlabelledView post →#Dafoebruary At Eternity's Gate I unfortunately did not enjoy this movie as much as I thought I would. Handheld camerawork was a bad choice imo. Strange choices for language back and forth between French and English. I don't know. It's fine, but I'm not watching it again. 4/10
unlabelledView post →I saw that in At Eternity's Gate, a biographical movie about Van Gogh. A local teenager shot him but Van Gogh wouldn't say who it was. #NotAloneTalk
unlabelledView post →I today I finished another magnificent movie I've watched in small sections: At Eternity's Gate. I can hardly find words to describe the movie but when I think of it I see a bright yellow light and the wonderfully open, expressive face and intense blue eyes of Willem Dafoe.

But I have no illusions about being discovered. I think of the movie "At Eternity's Gate" the phrase: maybe you are a painter (writer) for people who aren't born yet.
unlabelledView post →At Eternity's Gate, exactly. The director, Julian Schnabel, is a painter himself, and I feel that in the film. I love Willem in anything. The soundtrack by Tatiana Lisovskaya is also fantastic imo.
unlabelledView post →Next, I watched "At Eternity's Gate" from 2018. It is essentially about Van Gogh's final years living in Arles. A phenomenal movie. Willem Dafoe's portrayal of Van Gogh was incredibly poignant and melancholic. It made me extremelly depressed.
unlabelledView post →If your wanting another film on Van Gogh I highly recommend At Eternity's Gate (2018), explores the theory that he was killed instead of suicide. Wonderful film in my opinion with an brilliant Willem Dafoe performance.

unlabelledView post →This is a great little biopic looking at the latter stages of the life of an hugely creative but flawed human being. Willem Dafoe really does offer up a convincing performance as Vincent van Gogh - he encapsulates both the creative and temperamental madness of this genius artist wonderfully; and there is even a passing resemblance. Rupert Friend also delivers well as his increasingly stretched benefactor brother Theo and Oscar Isaac is likewise strong as Paul Gauguin, with whom van Gogh has…
positive · AI labelView post →Not one for me. I will say that Willem Dafoe is terrific, undoubtedly. His performance in 'At Eternity's Gate' was honestly the only part of this 2018 release that kept my interest piqued. The support cast don't do anything wrong but don't really illuminate the film for me either. It has its heart in the right place, but as a film I didn't enjoy it. The main thing that bothered me was the camera work all around, just absolutely needless shaky cam that adds zero to what's going on onscreen - it…
neutral · AI labelView post →Okay, I will freely admit up front that I rolled my eyes around about the third or fourth time we were given a top-down angle view of Van Gogh walking, walking, walking. And some of the shots went a bit too long, though I suspect there was a point being made. I do not mind being challenged by a movie's content or style, as long as it doesn't insult my intelligence. I found this movie to be interesting enough to stick with it, though we watched it at home and didn't swallow it in one sitting.…
positive · AI labelView post →I get what At Eternity's Gate was going for, visually. But that thing was not a thing i enjoyed. The framing made me rather uncomfortable, which, again, kind of the point, but not for me. Massive props to Dafoe of course, his Oscar nomination for best actor is not uncalled for, and special extra props to Mads Mikkelsen, the sequence between the two of them was far and away my absolute favourite part of At Eternity's Gate. But so much of the rest of the thing is just nature shots accompanied by…
