Maybe I’m just emotional today (always), and maybe it’s benefiting from my Stereophonic love, but I thought it was so well done—and am listening to the soundtrack now. It might be my favorite movie of this type since Walk the Line. (Which, go James Mangold.)

In 2003, she was named in Country Music TV's 40 Greatest Women of Country Music list. Her relationship with Johnny Cash inspired the 2005 film Walk the Line. #JuneCarterCash

unlabelledView post →Ok the funniest part of this movie is that James Mangold has Dylan and Joan Baez singing "It Ain't Me" in a way that's like a shot for shot remake of Cash and Carter doing that song in Walk The Line? Buddy do you remember you did this already?
unlabelledView post →Love to see headlines like "Why Joaquin Phoenix Didn't Reprise Johnny Cash Role in 'A Complete Unknown'" because at no point was I led to believe that the film shared a cinematic universe with "Walk the Line". It never crossed my mind to think that.
unlabelledView post →The first 5* film of 2025. It’s magnificent. I think how many times I’ve watched Walk the Line - same director - & know how many times I’ll see this too, over and over. The acting, the musical performances and the sheer shock of Dylan’s early genius - it’s incredible. m.youtube.com/watch?v=FdV-...
unlabelledView post →You can take your pick from the James Mangold filmography. 3:10 to Yuma? YES. Ford v Ferrari? YES. Walk the Line? YES. Wait, he even did the Bob Dylan movie? My God. He's in the running for the dad movie championship. For me, though, it's Wrath of Khan.
unlabelledView post →The default point of comparison to “A Complete Unknown” in Mangold’s filmography is obviously “Walk the Line.” But there’s a lot of “Ford vs. Ferrari” in here, in that it’s a movie that is very firmly about artistic compromise within an existing corporatised framework. Hm.
unlabelledView post →Happy Birthday to amazing Oscar-nominated film director, producer and screenwriter James Mangold (@mang0ld.bsky.social), seen here with Joaquin Phoenix & Reese Witherspoon on the set of WALK THE LINE (2005). #filmsky
unlabelledView post →Another one of my all-time favorite artists. Johnny Cash. To me this live version of Jackson is one of the coolest videos ever, just look at how much they are into each other--that is the way life should be. Walk The Line is an awesome movie about their life if you ever want to watch it. #cardsky

unlabelledView post →Listening to Johnny's melodious voice singing I SAW THE LIGHT is messing with my memory: Tom Hiddleston's biopic of Hank Williams was titled I SAW THE LIGHT, while Joaquin Phoenix's film about Johnny was called WALK THE LINE 🎙 Meanwhile this seamstress is totally cracking me up! 🤣🤣🤣 #ColumboTV
unlabelledView post →20 years after directing Walk the Line (17 years after it was creatively massacred by Walk Hard), it’s rich for Mangold to direct this movie about the danger of holding on to the same old genres until they get stale
unlabelledView post →In 2007, one movie (WALK HARD: THE DEWEY COX STORY) took a blowtorch to musician biopic cliches of movies like James Mangold's WALK THE LINE, and another movie (I'M NOT THERE) provided a genre-busting profile of Bob Dylan. So it was certainly interesting to see what Mangold did with that knowledge.
unlabelledView post →My favorite film performances from the 2000s. Joaquin Phoenix, Johnny Cash, "Walk the Line" (directed by James Mangold). #movies #films #walktheline #jamesmangold #joaquinphoenix
unlabelledView post →The thing about Walk The Line is that, in the lead up to his death, Johnny Cash built up a lot of mystique and legend around him. Then that film came out and was like "Oh actually he is just another dumb rock star".
unlabelledView post →No one could have foreseen the perpetual relevance of Walk Hard. At the time, there was no indication that movies like Walk the Line and Ray were going to become the cockroaches of a post-apocalyptic film industry, impossible to eradicate, still crawling around in the ruins of a decimated industry.
unlabelledView post →Watching Walk the Line for the first time. This movie is a total rip off of Walk Hard!
unlabelledView post →Oldest is watching AIRPORT 1970 (for reasons unknown) but it's a perfectly good movie! It just got bodied so hard years later by AIRPLANE! (similar to WALK THE LINE/WALK HARD) that it plays as this uncanny valley parody of itself that is also somehow serious.
unlabelledView post →I may be wrong but I feel like 'A Complete Unknown' would have done better box office if they just called it 'Bob Dylan: The Movie.' Out of context lyric here is not the same thing as WALK THE LINE or BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY as far as name recognition.
unlabelledView post →A COMPLETE UNKNOWN is less a rolling stone than a boulder gathering moss. It'll make you appreciate WALK THE LINE more, at least. My review is live at The Film Maven. thefilmmaven.substack.com/p/a-complete...

unlabelledView post →Watched Capote. Y'know, it's interesting because I remember seeing the Academy Awards as a kid when Hoffman won for this movie and being upset that Joaquin Phoenix didn't win for Walk the Line. Now, Phoenix was great but this? Astonishing.

unlabelledView post →Walk the Line worked because Johnny Cash has tons of demons, was very open about them, & the film didn't shy away from them Every musical biopic since has been nostoligic slop to some extent or another
unlabelledView post →Apparently the writer is too young to remember 2003-5 or so, when Jonny released Hurt, passed away, and Walk the Line became a *massive* movie.🤷♀️
unlabelledView post →On this day in 1954, Johnny Cash married his first wife, Vivian. #movies You can listen to the Walk the Line episode of Biopic: A Podcast Story here: open.spotify.com/episode/2ZVc...
unlabelledView post →Forget Legally Blonde, Walk The Line. Freeway is without a doubt Reese Witherspoon best movie.
unlabelledView post →I dunno. Bohemian Rhapsody didn’t really tell the story how I understood it. I’m more into Ray, What’s Love Got To Do With It, Walk The Line, or The Last Waltz. ‘Complete Unknown’ feels like a SNL impression and not a well cast and developed role in a feature film. Zero out of 4 stars for me.
unlabelledView post →This is a film in love with itself. What it will do is introduce some new audiences to BD’s and Joan Baez’s music just like Walk the Line did with Johnny and June Carter Cash. That is all and it’s not a bad thing.

unlabelledView post →Every positive response keeps insisting “this isn’t just some rehash of Mangold’s Walk the Line formula” and then proceeds to describe the film in a way that reinforces that that’s exactly what it is? I’m not even trying to start shit, I’m so confused.
unlabelledView post →Seriously sitting back and have saturated what I aw at A Complete Unknown. That movie is amazing. It's better than Ray and Walk the Line. Some discrepancies yes, but overall it was a pretty perfect Dylan biopic. Definitely for people that are fans or anyone that would be interested in finding out.
unlabelledView post →It's like that movie Walk the Line, but the real Johnny Cash walked in many different directions. Anything for a story, I guess!
unlabelledView post →Today's film is Walk the Line (2005) directed by James Mangold. #filmsky #moviesky
unlabelledView post →Guillermo Del Toro is right. ACU is a very different kind of movie than WALK THE LINE (something I touched on in my review). Those who don’t see why aren’t seeing the film that Mangold actually made. They’re seeing their preconceived ideas about what they feared it would be.
unlabelledView post →That movie slaps. Even more so if you watch Walk the Line right before it.
unlabelledView post →A movie from the 1970's that begins with I I Walk The Line (1970) - Frankenheimer

unlabelledView post →"a diss track in cinematic form" is just so good. As is "Walk Hard," which comes hard at "Walk the Line" but never misses an opportunity to swing haymakers at any hagiography bio film cliches it comes vaguely near.

unlabelledView post →Walk the Line and Ray are both agonizingly self serious. Also James Mangold plagiarizes himself from his own movie in A Complete Unknown, which gives the question of “will Dylan plug into this amp” the kind of drama one might reserve for the passage of the 13th amendment.

unlabelledView post →Tonight's film is Walk the Line, felt I should see it before A Complete Unknown
unlabelledView post →Im surprised that i haven’t heard of this movie. I don’t listen to Bob Dylan honestly, but I do love Walk the Line and other of his movies like Le Mans ’66/Ford v Ferrari and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Definitely wanna check it out someday.
unlabelledView post →Considering James Mangold directed Walk the Line, the main film it was parodying, it makes sense his return to the music biopic feels exactly the same lol
unlabelledView post →Today's sadly relatable viewing is George & Tammy. I guess I should rewatch Walk the Line next. If I could sing, my life would be a hit romantic tragedy of a film.

unlabelledView post →Jamie Foxx won best actor in 2005, but not for this. He could have, though. He won for "Ray", which I thought was a prototypically bad biopic (like Walk The Line). Here, it's his talks with beautifully evil Tom Cruise that make the movie special. Textured and nuanced. Also L.A. as a main character.
unlabelledView post →In my opinion, the key to a good biopic is picking a tight space of time, minimizing time jumps, and being willing to really dig into the more complicated, less likable stuff. WALK THE LINE is an example of a movie that does it all wrong. Choppy time skips, tossing Wife 1 under the bus, etc
