I thought I’d just jump in, finish them quickly, and be done with it, but in the end I realized I simply couldn’t play it anymore. I sat there for a bit, tried to get back into it, and eventually just gave up. Whatever. Speaking about the game overall, it’s pretty specific in what it tries to do. This is not a classic Assassin’s Creed experience, but more of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another game ruined by Ubisofts launcher and intrusive DRM. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this or any other Ubisoft game in good conscience. This is due to their always online intrusive DRM. When you purchase a Ubisoft game from Steam it installs the Ubisoft launcher which you then need to either create or login to a Ubisoft account, your game then gets permanently tied to that account meaning you need it to play your game, for a lot of games offline play does not work and the remember…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game holds the best fire emoticon which is what led me to it. I wondered why I had never heard of it and honestly the art and leading lady deserve a full-scale blockbuster style game. If you're good at stealth, you will excel in this version. I know several people recommend 2D games to learn WASD but for me it is not the best way. It holds a nostalgic feel much like 90's 2D games, but it does not feel like Mario where there are multiple ways to solve. The mechanics feel somewhat…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Full disclaimer: * I have been employed by Ubisoft for ~8 years (Up until 2021) and worked on the Assassin's creed series for most of that (multiple titles from AC 3 to AC Odysey, from quality assurance to level design and technical direction) * I bought this game for 7.49E with my own money in 2015. * This is my personal opinion, and nothing else. Now with that out of the way: Getting 100% was... a return to the ship combat i loved from AC4 but with a layer of empty virtue signaling smeared…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Steam is DRM. Uplay and ubisoft account is DRM. cd activation key is DRM. this game, on sale for $2.99 right now has all three. Marked as playable on steam deck, once you jump through all the installs and logins and hoops to jump through this game requires, you get stuck at the cd key activation screen, because for some reason YOU CAN NO LONGER VIEW YOUR KEY AFTER THE GAME IS INSTALLED. so now I have to Uninstall the game and uplay, get my key, write it down, reinstall the game, log…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the 1st game in the Assassin's Creed Chronicles series, a side-scrolling platformer. Among the three installments, it has the easiest difficulty level. The ink wash painting-like presentation, likely influenced by its Chinese setting, is outstanding. However, perhaps because it is the earliest of the three, the background feels somewhat empty compared to the other two installments.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China should have been a jewel in the Assassin’s Creed crown — a razor-sharp, stylish dive into Ming Dynasty intrigue, martial artistry, and the return of fan-favorite Shao Jun. Instead, it’s the gaming equivalent of a beautiful lacquer box… that’s completely empty inside. The art direction? Gorgeous. The premise? Promising. The execution? A repetitive, shallow side-scroller that feels like it was designed to be “good enough” rather than great. Stealth is reduced…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Need to connect through a 3rd party launcher and it asks for a CD key to activate. Spent almost an hour doing what the pinned message on the game's discussions page suggest, and trying to find what to do on google. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing works. I can't even play something I paid for. I'm not bothering contacting support or getting a ticket for help. Just stop being anti-consumer.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one is much more difficult and fun to play than any previous Assassin's Creed game. Avoid combat is very important and can be super difficult. It's a great side-scrolling game, and it is also quite fun and fast paced. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3520137349

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China offers a distinctive interpretation of the familiar Assassin fantasy by replacing the sprawling three-dimensional environments of the main series with a carefully constructed 2.5D stealth-platforming format. Developed by Climax Studios and published by Ubisoft Entertainment, it concentrates on infiltration, timing, observation, and precise traversal rather than open-world exploration. The smaller scale works surprisingly well because the fundamentals of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A more stealth focused Assassin's Creed game where you are expected to be undetected and not killing anyone aside from your targets. Very challenging and requires patience if you want to get the highest score in a level

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →need to remake this game into 3d version please, great story, gameplay could be better, but it the story that assassin creed always delivers but the recent ones are not good at all.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →controls are absolute ass. story is meh, apparently a vengeance bad story but character never does any sort of self reflection along the way and it comes out of nowhere at the very end. art style is cool though
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →📅 Date Completed: March 18, 2023 🏆 C-Tier Game TL;DR: A unique side-scrolling take on Assassin’s Creed. This is nothing like the mainline games. Has a fun level scoring system that encourages mastery. Lacks a strong story but delivers on what it aims to do. 🎮 Gameplay & Mechanics This is a sidescroller and is a big departure from the mainline games. The stealth mechanics are well-implemented, and being graded on each kill and level adds an extra layer of challenge. It’s incredibly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A decent 2.5D spin-off, no more, no less. It doesn’t hold a candle to any of the main games, but that’s not it’s purpose anyway. The gameplay mechanics and controls are intuitive and responsive for the most part, the presentation is decent and the story is simple and irrelevant, but not too offensively bad. The game starts pretty easy and it doesn‘t get much harder until the end, so the game has a relatively constant flow, albeit the twelve chapters won‘t take you longer than 7 hours total…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →“Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China” shifts the series into a 2.5D side-scrolling format, focusing on precision, timing, and deliberate stealth rather than open-world exploration. The change in perspective results in a leaner experience that emphasizes planning and spatial awareness. The game uses a minimalist approach to convey the core identity of the franchise within a smaller, more focused structure. The story follows Shao Jun, a trained Assassin returning to China after the fall of her…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Not worth getting if it were free. Ubi is trolling -- it's WAY too long between checkpoints. You will find yourself repeating the same 15-minute sequence 50 times because one little button press was off by a split second. Ubisoft used to be great. It's a shame. Scenery is kinda nice tho
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →honestly, a really fun game. Requires lots of patience and focus on stealth. Though i would not recommend it, if you don't meet those two criteria: 1. AC fan 2. the game is on discount. Despise it being good and fun, it is not worth the full price nowadays.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yet another game that has so much potential--at least for what it was intended to be--only to be full of disappointment and shortsightedness. Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China is a very entertaining story, despite how short it is in length, dialogue, and even text in the database files--although this is all to be expected, considering the Chronicles trilogy were initially released on the PlayStation Vita. They are very contained narratives, so you aren't missing out by avoiding them,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better than I expected. I am a > 40 old man who still loves playing game. I now learn things slower than I was and find myself prefer simpler game. This is the one that fits current me. there is no complex and fancy system that you need to remember and get used to. just hide and manage to kill. Not very satisfying but still quite funny. Recommended!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine the Disappointment i was left with at the end of this game when I could only think of the 3 Euro wasted on it. Biggest complains: ·No cinematics or cutscenes, just plain images rolling through and a bland music throut the game. ·Nonsense story (Ezio's part was never shown in game or used for gameplay). ·Super Dated mechanics, even for a 2D game from 2015 same year as Assasins Creed Syndicate, feels like a PS2 game. ·The game runs at a ashtonishing 720p due to a bug (go windowed to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Assassin's Creed Chronicles China is a short 2.5D stealth action game that feels more like a first prince of Persia game than the usual open world Assassin's Creed titles. The game is all about moving through levels and deciding whether to avoid enemies, confront them, or take them out directly. Each level is split into smaller sections and scored based on how you play, with stealth giving the highest points. The game is linear and can be completed in just a few hours. The visuals are very…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've now beaten the Chronicles Trilogy, and I believe this one is the best of the 3, not only does it have a direct connection to the main games with Ezio, but also is a lot longer and well paced, or at least compared to the other 2, the mechanics are new and feel fresh, the story feels coherent and interesting and the whole gimmick is fun. Each of the three have a different art style, and this one felt easy on the eyes and the game actually looks pretty good, gameplay isn't affected by it…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the story of Revenge and Redemption by a female protagonist, Shao Jun in the cultural setting of Feudal China in 1526. I'm able to explore the caves of Maijishan Grottoes, understand Portuguese involvement in Macau Port. I'm also able to witness the grandeur of Chinese architecture, serene village of Nan'an and the Mighty River JiaJiang. This story allows me to infiltrate the Royal Forbidden Palace and The Great Wall of China while being attacked by the Mongols.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A simple fun short game. The story is not bad. It adds a good atmosphere with its beautiful art design. You can try it on sale. 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pretty crummy kinda game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-Falls flat in every aspect of experience. -Repetitive, clunky controls. -Disappointment.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not fond of side-scrollers, and I feel like the recent trend of Ubisoft to make side-scrolling games is really a bad decision. Open-world is what made Odyssey, Origins, Valhalla, and others, so exceptional. Beyond that, Ubisoft's customer service is atrocious and disrespectful. I wouldn't recommend an Ubisoft game to literally anyone, ever, for that reason.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely feels like a mobile port so worked well with a rog x. Not bad, not great. Worth the $2/3 sale though. BTW, about 3-5 hours long at best.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wonder what the Chronicles Trilogy would be like on the new engine...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Never played a more 6/10 game in my life. I love the Chinese art style and the protagonist is pretty cool. I know some Chinese and understanding what the guards were saying gave me some real life giggles. Sometimes the gameplay is fun, sometimes it's frustrating. Unfortunately, the further you get in the game, the more boring and frustrasting the mechanics got. I feel like it's definitely worth the $3 it costs on sale if you have time to kill, but you could just as easily skip this one. Also,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not entirely sure what people think about the Chronicles series of games, but I really like them. No, they aren't long, drawn-out stories with lots of depth and detail to them. But they are a nice bite-sized piece of the history and lore of the Assassin's Creed world, as well as having pretty solid gameplay for being 2.5D titles. It's also a nice touch that each of the three has a different art style. As far as ACC: China goes, this game has a good story, characters, gameplay and most…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely not like other AC games but I still love it. It adds that old arcade style to the game which can be fun although I play it on and off all the time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked this one. I honestly didn't think AC would make the port to 2.5D, but they did it and they did it very well. The protagonist is cool, she's linked to Ezio from AC2 so there's a nice break-out/continuation from the Italian AC stories. The art style is superb and the way the concept team/dev team has gone for a (what I consider) traditional art styling to add to the story element was exceptionally well done. It's less than a £10 at the moment, and has no micro rip offs that the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely the best out of this little trilogy of games. Fun and enjoyable, the story is meh but it's nice to see what happens to Ezio in his later years. Trying to do this game pacifist and not being seen makes it 10 times more engaging so i'd recommend that playstyle. Achievements are simple yet rep[etiovie, takes some grinding to get done but overall not that bad.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seeing Ezio again in this game was one of the most fascinating scenes I've seen. Attractive animations, strong and fast stealth were other things that made this game lovable to me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's really fun and there are no technical issues
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →what a beautiful Chinese landscapes, ..love it!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a 2.5D is quite a good game. Both ambient and story feels like ac game(not like modern ac games). Controls sometimes feels a little bit clunky, but still quite responsive. A big plus is that there is no multiplayer so no online achievements :) And it's constantly on sale for 3€, so it's basically free... The only downside for me is, that game is a little bit short.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story looks good and the gameplay is OK; but if you make a full on immersive world of China and play as Shao Jun in the Ming Dynasty period like the cannon version of Assassin's Creed Black Flag, or Assassin's Creed Origin, this game is a level down to the rest of those titles. Rate it: 5/10 & 3/5
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's Mark of the Ninja but it's Assassin's Creed and set in China.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Remember Chronicles? Probably not so let's talk about it! youtu.be/N-u4EmzvvKM #AssassinsCreed #AssassinsCreedChronicles
unlabelledView post →Pretty sweet, I'd recommend if you're looking for a casual/low-commitment game that still scratches the Assassin's Creed itch. Shao Jun is pretty badass also, top 5 most badass protagonists imo
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember when this game (and the two others in the trilogy) released, it was considered a low-effort showing from Ubisoft. It is wild how far Ubisoft has fallen since then. Unwarranted bashing aside, this game is not too bad as long as you go in expecting a simple, 2.5D style stealth game. The pricing is fair (a bargain if you can get it on sale), and the mechanics are decent too. While it is an Assassin game, and it does have the standard AC flavour to it, do not expect much of a story.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly pretty fun, though the controls for PC are atrocious (To activate a certain ability, you have to press both bumpers on a controller; on a keyboard it's CTRL and Shift. And you have to do it immediately after pressing C, too.) Did all the achievements, which EDIT 6.03.2025: you can see now! Hooray! Story is OK, truth be told it's unremarkable. The artstyle is very pretty though. For how cheap it is, the game delivers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fun side game for the Assassin's Creed Series, unfortunately it's brought down from the requirement of Ubisoft's side launcher which is honestly terrible to use. I wish Steam would make side launchers like Ubisoft Connect against the ToS. Game good. Ubisoft bad.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Assassin's Creed Chronicles - China is a clunky mess to play with an extremely dull story and empty characters. You play as Shao Jun who has a way more interesting story in Assassin's Creed Embers (A 20 minute webisode) than her game. The parkour is unresponsive and sluggish and is accompanied with poor stealth. If there's one thing I can appreciate about this game it's the art style which is all around stunning. I couldn't ALT + TAB out of the game or change my settings / resolution without…
